Levi Peters

RAPID CITY — Levi Peters, 16, Rapid City, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at his home.

Survivors include his mother, Barbara Peters, Rapid City; two brothers, Link Peters and Michael Radlinger II, both of Rapid City; and three sisters, Seferina Peters, Amanda Peters and Julia Peters, all of Rapid City.

Arrangements are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home in Rapid City.

Oakley Orville Lamphere

STURGIS — Oakley Orville Lamphere, 78, Sturgis, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at Fort Meade VA Medical Center.

Visitation will be Thursday from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel and one hour before services at the High Plains Heritage Center on Friday.

Funeral services will be Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at 1 p.m. at the High Plains Heritage Center near Spearfish, with the Rev. Charles E. Hunt officiating. Burial with military honors by the Sturgis Honor Guard and Masonic Graveside Rites by Olive Branch No. 47 AF&AM will follow at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Oakley was born April 21, 1922, on the family ranch at Buffalo, to Fred and Helen (Swenson) Lamphere. He attended grade school in a one-room schoolhouse and graduated from Buffalo High School in 1939. He entered the University of Wyoming in 1941 and completed 1-1/2 years before going into the Air Force, where he was commissioned as a pilot in June of 1944. He served as an instructor and flew the Hump in the China Burma India (CBI) Theater. In 1945, his plane crashed in India, and he was listed as missing for several days. He received an honorable discharge from active service in late 1945.

On Oct. 9, 1943, Oakley married Laura C. Thompson at San Antonio, Texas. They ranched in Harding County until 1949, when they moved back to Laramie, where Oakley graduated from the University with a master's degree in agriculture in June of 1952. They moved to Sturgis with their three sons where he was active in the ranching business and was employed by Equitable Assurance Co. as an area ranch loan manager and served four states. He retired in 1977.

Oakley was very active in civic affairs in the Sturgis community. He was a charter member and past president of the Buck-A-Roos, a county 4-H leader, the 4-H Club Foundation, a charter member of the Custer Trail Riders, a member of the Desert Caballeros in Wickenberg, Ariz., Gunsel Riders, New Dawn Enterprises, and was involved with the High School Rodeo, serving on the local, state and national levels and was the past National Director. Oakley has been on the Board of Directors of the High Plains Heritage Museum since 1977. He has been a member of the South Dakota Stockgrowers, the National Cattlemen's Association, Wool Growers, was a charter member of the South Dakota Horse Council and related livestock associations. He was also a member of the VFW, the American Legion, Past Potentate of Naja Temple of the Shrine, Naja Cowboys, Cedar Branch Masonic Lodge No. 179 AF&AM, and the South Dakota Farm Bureau.

Oakley received numerous awards, including Man of the Year for High School Rodeo, Outstanding Service to High School Rodeo Award, the Top Farmer of America Award, Soil Conservation Award, Outstanding Chamber of Commerce Award, the West River Notable Award and Rapid City Boys Club Award.

Survivors include his wife, Laura C. Lamphere, Sturgis; three sons and their wives, Marc N. and Cynthia Reed Lamphere, Hot Springs, Dale C. and Jane Lamphere, Sturgis, and Ross D. and Janet Lamphere, Sturgis; three sisters, Lois Evers, Vale, Eris Heggem, Spokane, Wash., and Nora Boyer, Buffalo; six grandchildren, Amy, Hillary, Logan, Tyler, Ashley and Tanner; and three great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Jessie and Patrick.

His parents; one sister, Inez H. Tuovinen; and three brothers, Regnald D., Irwin F., and Clint Lamphere preceded him in death.

Memorials have been established to the High Plains Heritage Center and to the New Dawn Center.

Vernie Edmund Morgan

RAPID CITY — Sunday morning, Vernie Edmund Morgan passed through the thin veil between life and life eternal, into the arms of a loving God. As he passed, his son Vince and grandson Christopher and other family members were there to greet him. Vernie knew great tragedy and great victory in his 88 years on Earth. He was a much-loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

Vernie was born in the home on the family farm in Nashville Township, Martin County near Truman, Minn., on Jan. 8, 1913. Vernie was a great sports fan and played sports in school. He was a graduate of Truman High School. He also became the first of his family to graduate from the University of Minnesota. His degree was in Mortuary Science. In 1940, Vernie married Lila Erickson from Windom, Minn. After an internship at Olson Funeral home in Truman, he purchased the Price Furniture and Funeral Home in Sherburn. He was a beloved member of the Sherburn community for several decades as he cared for the needs of the families there during their most difficult hours. He was called up to the Army during World War II and served as a Surgery Assistant in the Philippines.

In the years between 1940 and 1976, Vernie served his community well. He was a founding member of the Fox Lake Conservation League and the Fox Lake Golf Club. He also played a pretty good round of golf. He was a member of the Sherburn Commercial Club and served as President of the Sherburn School Board during the construction of a new high school building in the late '50s. He was an honored 57-year member of the Sherburn American Legion.

Vernie and Lila moved to Rapid City in 1995, when they wished to be near their family. During the last six years, Vernie made many new friends.

Vernie is survived by many loving relatives and friends. Survivors include his wife of over 60 years, Lila, Rapid City; his sister Faye of Texas; his son, Charles "Mike" and daughter-in-law Barbara from Rapid City; grandson Mike Morgan II of Littleton, Colo., his wife, Missy, and their two children, Christopher and Nicholas; grandson Davin Morgan-Thompson of Rushford, Minn.; grandson James of Rapid City, his son Eric and his mother Megan Denson of Rapid City; and granddaughter Christine from Rapid City.

Vernie was preceded in death by his mother, Susan, and father, Charles; his brother Glen and sisters Gladys, Glee and Goldie; his children, "Vince," Susan Ann and Robert Vern; and his grandson Christopher Allen Morgan.

Vernie will be missed by many, but those left behind realize he has simply gone on ahead.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at Dove Christian Center in Rapid City, with the Rev. Gary Johnson officiating.

Burial, with military honors provided by Rushmore VFW Post 1273, will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.

Jane Butler

RAPID CITY — Jane Butler, 88, Rapid City, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at a local nursing home.

Survivors include one sister, Clair Lambert, Rapid City.

Arrangements are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home in Rapid City.

D.D. 'Pete' Collins

BELLE FOURCHE — D.D. "Pete" Collins, 68, Belle Fourche, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at Fort Meade Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Velma Collins, Belle Fourche; five sons, Mike Collins, Gillette, Wyo., Craig Collins, Douglas Wyo., Steve Collins, Roy Collins and Pat Collins, all of Laramie, Wyo.; two daughters, Cathy Leslie, Rock River, Wyo., and Lori Guffey, Rapid City; one stepson, Glenn Evans, St. Croix, Virgin Islands; three stepdaughters, Linda Rose of Denver, Neva Hasbrouck, Casper, Wyo., and Laura Mayo, Gillette, Wyo.; one brother, Tim Collins, Laramie, Wyo.; 15 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche, and one hour before service.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, from Historic Fort Meade Chapel at Fort Meade, with Chaplin Moe Greiner officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Carol N. Anderson

STURGIS — Carol N. Anderson, 73, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at Sturgis Community Health Care Center.

Survivors include one son, Ralph Anderson, Pleasant Home, Mo.; two daughters, Marsha Estes, Bakersfield, Calif., and Gayle Anderson, Cedar Park, Texas; two brothers, Gene Burgess, Yankton, and Bill Burgess Jr., Chandler; one sister, Ramona Strandell, Spearfish; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, and one hour before services at the church Thursday, Jan. 18.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, at First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis, with the Rev. Howard Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Bear Butte Cemetery.

Nancy Houlihan

SPEARFISH — Nancy Houlihan, 98, Spearfish, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at David M. Dorsett Health Care Facility in Spearfish.

Survivors include two grandsons, Clay Singletary, Pittsburgh, and Patrick Singletary, State College, Pa.; two sisters, Addie Britton, Grand Island, Neb., and Wilma Copas, Belle Fourche; one brother, Basil Meink, Spearfish; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at Fidler Funeral Chapel in Spearfish.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at the funeral chapel, with the Rev. Kent Stillson officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Spearfish.

Adolph P. Seiler

RAPID CITY — Adolph P. Seiler, 90, Rapid City, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at St. Clair Hospital, Lakewood, Wash.

Adolph was born on July 3, 1910, at Fort Yates, Kan.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ellen Viancourt, Dallas, Texas; two sons, Tobie Seiler, Rapid City, and John Seiler, Spanaway, Wash.; two brothers, Paul Seiler, Glendale, Calif., and Walter Seiler, Alliance, Neb.; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Seiler, on May 27, 2000.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesday at Osheim-Catron Funeral Home. A Christian Wake Service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the cathedral, with the Rev. Michael Hight as the celebrant.

Burial will be at the Pine Lawn Cemetery.

Wilbur Liston

YUMA, Ariz. — Wilbur Liston, 88, Yuma, Ariz., formerly of Fairburn, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Yuma Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Cora Liston, Yuma, Ariz.; and two sisters, Nellie Roth, Rapid City, and Cedelia Anderson, Newell.

Arrangements are pending with Carlsen & Aldinger Funeral Home in Sturgis.

Dell F. Taylor

PHOENIX — Dell F. Taylor, 76, passed away Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Phoenix.

She was born June 8, 1924, at Meek, Neb., daughter of Claude F. and Edythe Haynes Hull. She lived in Rapid City nearly 40 years, retiring to Phoenix, in 1989. She will best be remembered for her empathy for others, always willing to give whatever means she could to ease the pain and needs of others.

She was preceded in death by her husband, E.E. "Ab" Taylor; one son, Kelly Buttrick; grandparents; parents; and three brothers.

She is survived by her son, Roger of Phoenix; three sisters; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral arrangements have been provided by Mesa Heritage Mortuary, Mesa, Ariz. Memorial services will be at the home of Fred and Faye Johnson, 522 S. 26th St., Mesa, AZ, 85204, and officiated by Sam L. Danicis, High Priest, LDS Church.

Herman Bredenkamp

RAPID CITY — Herman Bredenkamp, 87, of Rapid City, died Jan. 14, 2001, at Fort Meade Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

He was a World War II veteran and the holder of the Bronze Star.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Neomi; three sisters, Dorothea, Minnie and Louise; and one brother, Henry.

He is survived by one son, Ron, and his wife, Shirley, of Rapid City.

No services are planned.

Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery.

Ralph John Larvie

NORRIS — Ralph John Larvie, 53, Norris, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Survivors include his mother, Zabie Alice Larvie, Rapid City; two sons, Joseph Todd Larvie, Salamanca, N.Y., and Ralph John Larvie Jr., Rapid City; two daughters, Grace Ann Larvie, Rapid City, and Rose Marie Larvie, Norris; one stepdaughter, Linda Cruz, Rapid City; three brothers, Herbert Larvie and Eugene Larvie, both of Rapid City, and Anthony Larvie, Lander, Wyo.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A one-night wake service will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Mother Butler Center in Rapid City. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at the center, with the Rev. Pat McCorkell, S.J., officiating.

Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Evergreen Cemetery at Hot Springs.

Rooks & Kirk Funeral Home of Rapid City is in charge of arrangements.

D.D. 'Pete' Collins

BELLE FOURCHE — D.D. 'Pete' Collins, 68, Belle Fourche, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at Fort Meade Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
