Floyd Freeman Curtis

BAGGS, Wyo. — Floyd Freeman Curtis, 76, Baggs, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, in Craig, Colo.

Survivors include his wife, Velma Curtis, Baggs; four sons, Larry Curtis, Newcastle, Wyo., Lonny Curtis, Baggs, Les Curtis, Craig, and Wyatt Curtis, Erie, Colo.; one daughter, Nettie Cramer, Hill City, S.D.; 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Ben Curtis, Broomfield, Colo.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at Little Snake River High School. Burial, with military honors by Sturgis Honor Guard, will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, S.D., with the Rev. James Olson officiating.

Friends may gather at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis before going to the cemetery.

Dr. Maynard Porter

PARKSTON — Dr. Maynard H. Porter, 80, Parkston, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at his home.

Survivors include two daughters, Denise Sudbeck and Dianne Iverson, both of Rapid City.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15, at Salem United Church of Christ in Parkston.

A memorial has been established to the University of South Dakota School of Medicine.

Clements-Wiese Funeral Home in Parkston is in charge of arrangements.

Clara Baker Betts

HAY SPRINGS, Neb. — Clara Baker Betts, 83, Hay Springs, Neb., died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hay Springs.

Survivors include her husband, Sterling Betts, Chadron, Neb.; eight children, Donald Baker, Vancouver, Wash., Doris Johnson, Rock Springs, Wyo., Diane Chizek, Gardnerville, Nev., Delia Willuweit, Boone, Iowa; David Baker, Fullerton, Calif., Dean Baker and Carolie Holmes, both of Chadron, Neb., and Clara Peterson, Rapid City.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron, with the Rev. Larry Johnson officiating.

Andrew 'Andy' Potter

PIERRE — Andrew Potter, 93, Pierre, and formerly of Rapid City and the northern Black Hills, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at Maryhouse Sub-Acute Center in Pierre.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Potter, Pierre; one son, Richard Potter, Corvallis, Ore.; one daughter, Audrae Ann Tisher, Gainesville, Fla.; four grandsons; one granddaughter; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Dan Potter, Madison; and one sister, Arvilla Show, Madison.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, with a 7 p.m. Masonic and prayer service, at Feigum Funeral Home in Pierre.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at First United Methodist Church in Pierre.

Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Pierre.

Elizabeth A. O'Brien

RAPID CITY — Elizabeth A. O'Brien, 86, Rapid City, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at a local nursing home.

Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Bakeberg, Rapid City, and Jeri Archer, Chandler, Ariz.; and three sons, Stanley Bevier, Colony, Wyo., Marvin BeVier, Las Vegas, and John O' Brien, Casper, Wyo.

Arrangements are pending with Campbell, Paula and Quinn Funeral Home in Rapid City.

Elizabeth G. Burnhan

RAPID CITY — Elizabeth G. Burnhan, 60, Rapid City, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at a local nursing home.

She was born July 22, 1940, in Rapid City to Walter and Elouise (Russ) Sanders. Her family pioneered in Rapid Valley and the Bald Hills.

She was raised and attended schools in Rapid City and attended Seventh-day Adventist Academy at Redfield.

She also lived in Arkansas and Missouri.

She worked most of her life for her father at Sander's Apartments.

She is survived by three sisters, Berta Barker of Akron, Ohio, Linda Wells of Los Alamos, N.M., and Stella Bucknam of Holiday Island, Ark.

She was preceded in death by her father W. Ray Sanders, mother Elouise Brown, and stepmother Bernice Sanders.

Graveside services and burial will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Pine Lawn Memorial Park in Rapid City.

Arrangements are with Behrens Mortuary.

Margaret G. Blythe

BELLE FOURCHE — Visitation for Margaret G. Blythe, 89, of Belle Fourche, will be Friday, Jan. 12, from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche and one hour before the service at the church.

Services will be Saturday, Jan. 13, at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Belle Fourche. Pastor Steve Olson will officiate, with burial at Pine Slope Cemetery. A memorial has been established.

Margaret was born August 17, 1911, at Belle Fourche to Chris and Anna (Arp) Helmer. She grew up east of Belle Fourche and attended the Ingersoll School.

She graduated from Belle Fourche High School in 1931. She then attended Spearfish Normal for one year. After college, she taught at the Chase School near Arpan for one year.

Margaret was united in marriage to Robert Blythe on May 23, 1934, at Newell. After their marriage, they lived in the Newell area. In 1943, they moved to Belle Fourche.

In 1955, she started working at the Tri-State Bakery, where she worked until it closed in 1990.

Margaret passed away Monday afternoon at the Belle Fourche Long Term Care Center.

Margaret enjoyed fishing with Robert, gardening, raising flowers and canning.

Grateful for having shared in her life is her husband of 66 years, Robert Blythe of Belle Fourche; her children, Kenneth Blythe of Lakeport, Calif., and Shirley Leidenfrost of Santa Ana, Calif.; three grandchildren, David Leidenfrost, John Leidenfrost and Laura Teposte; six great-grandchildren, Nicole, Tyler, Alex, Matthew, Noah and Kayla; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her parents, six brothers and five sisters preceded her in death.

Maynard T. Goehring

MOUND CITY — Maynard T. Goehring, 68, Mound City, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at his home.

Survivors include eight sons, Douglas Goehring, Herreid, Aldeen Goehring, Shakopee, Minn., David Goehring, Zeeland, N.D., Steve Goehring, Portland, Ore., Danny Goehring, Mound City, Mike Goehring, Bismarck, N.D., Greg Goehring, Las Vegas, Paul Goehring, Pollock; eight daughters, Louise Quaschnick, Herreid, Marie Quaschnick, Mobridge, Faye Dupper, Herreid, Rose Greenfield, Foxfield, Colo., Janet Stugelmeyer, Bismarck, N.D., Peggy Collins, Highlands Ranch, Colo., Carol Albi, Littleton, Colo., Nancy Knudson, Highlands Ranch, Colo.; four brothers, Art Goehring and Warren Goehring, both of Rapid City, and Lester Goehring and Eddie Goehring, both of Herreid; two sisters, Idella Sisk, Santa Anna, Calif., and Lenora Ryckman, Pollock; 39 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation is Thursday from 5 p.m. until the end of the wake service and one hour before the services at the church on Friday. Thursday, the rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. followed by a Scriptural wake service at 8 p.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Herreid.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at the church, with the Rev. Jim Freidrich officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, under the direction of Larson's Funeral Home of Mobridge.

Doris Slow Bear

OGLALA — Doris M. Slow Bear, 72, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at Pine Ridge Hospital.

Survivors include two sons, Cordell Slow Bear, Oglala, and David Slow Bear, Sioux Falls; one adopted son, Norbert Bell, Pine Ridge; four daughters, Lorna Slow Bear, Denver, Lois Slow Bear and Judy High Hawk, both of Oglala, and Janet Tobacco, Pine Ridge; three brothers, Marvin Dreaming Bear, Hot Springs, Calvert Dreaming Bear, Denver, and Delmar Dreaming Bear, Portland, Ore.; 42 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A two-night wake service will begin at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Oglala Recreation Center in Oglala. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at the recreation center, with the Rev. Tim Harris officiating. Burial will be at Our Lady of Good Council Cemetery in Oglala.

Alma A. Haux

RAPID CITY — Alma A. Haux, 77, of Rapid City and formerly of Ipswich, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at her home in Rapid City.

She was born May 5, 1923, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, to Evan and Hazel (Harris) Hughes.

Upon the death of her natural mother, Alma was raised by her aunt and uncle, Len and Alma Thiede of Cresbard. She attended country school and high school at Cresbard and then St. Luke's School of Nursing in Aberdeen.

She married Walter W. Haux on Aug. 3, 1947, at Ipswich. They made their home in Ipswich for 30 years, and she was a nurse at the Ipswich Community Hospital for 20-plus years.

Nine years ago, they moved to Rapid City, where she had since lived.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ of Ipswich.

She is survived by her daughter, Dianne M. Mashek of Rapid City; one sister, Marion Schilling and husband Harold of Dallas, Texas; one brother Forrest "Bud" Hughes and wife Lorraine of Houston; several nieces, nephews and cousins; four grandchildren, Robin L. Tracy and husband Tim of Houston, Nickolas D. Mashek and wife Dawn of Rapid City, Barbara L. Dippert and husband Shane of Evanston, Wyo., Christie R. Wilkins and husband Matt of Rapid City; five great-grandchildren, Eric Tracy, Nicole Mashek, Christian Mashek, Erin Dippert and Allyson Dippert; and her beloved pet cat "Fritzie."

She was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 13, 1996, and her beloved pet cat "Allie."

Visitation will be at Rooks & Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City Thursday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and one hour before services on Friday, Jan. 12.

Services are set for 1:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 12 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bruce Herrboldt officiating. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers or memorials, family and friends should make a donation to their favorite charity in her memory.

Aaron Lykken

PHOENIX, Ariz. — Aaron Lykken, 26, Phoenix, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at his home.

Survivors include his parents, John and Sue Lykken, Hill City; one sister, Kirsten Culverhouse, Rapid City; maternal grandparents, Ronald and Rita Stone, Sioux City, Iowa; and paternal grandparents, Carl and Millie Stasinowski, Bridgeman, Mich.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, at The Little White Church in Hill City, with the Rev. Dwayne Snell officiating.

Robert Ost

HURON — Robert Ost, 83, Huron, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at Huron Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Roberta Ost, Huron; one daughter, Kara Sewell, Rapid City; and one granddaughter.

Visitation will be one hour before the service.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Bill Hibbert and the Rev. Virginia Byrd officiating.

Burial will follow at Pine Lawn Memorial Park under the direction of Campbell, Paula and Quinn Funeral Service.
