FARMINGDALE — Robert E. "Big Elk" Stabler, 56, Farmingdale, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

He is survived by his partner, Sue Conner, Farmingdale.

Arrangements are pending with Rooks and Kirk Funeral Home of Rapid City.

Martha Canfield

CUSTER — Martha Canfield, 98, Hill City, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at Colonial Manor in Custer.

Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Cummings, Hill City; a sister, Christine Hogland, Minneapolis; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, at Isburg-McColley's Chapel in Custer.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Hill City. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Mary Elizabeth Marnette

RAPID CITY — Mary Elizabeth Marnette, 77, Rapid City, died Friday, Jan. 5, at a local nursing home.

Survivors include her son, Rick Marnette, Rapid City; her daughter, Patricia Marnette of Denver; her brother, William Schulte of Houston; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.

Orville Dangerud

HETTINGER, N.D. — Orville Dangerud, 75, Hettinger, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Minneapolis.

Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Dangerud, Hettinger; daughter Cynthia Erickson, Hettinger; sons Kerry Dangerud and Kevin Dangerud, both of Hettinger; four grandchildren; and two brothers, Julius Goplin, Hettinger, and Arvin Dangerud, Portland, Ore.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Hettinger. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at Hettinger Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Stephen Sherer officiating. Burial will be in Hettinger Cemetery with military honors.

Mathew Stewart

FORT PIERRE — Mathew Stewart, 2, Fort Pierre, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre.

Survivors include his parents, Martha Stewart and Clint Gregg, Rapid City; one sister, Jordan, Rapid City; and grandparents Doc and Marjy Gregg and Shannon and Kathryn Stewart.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Hofmeister Funeral Chapel in Pierre. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at St. John's Catholic Church in Fort Pierre, with the Rev. Dale Kutil officiating.

Roy Ozanne

WHITE RIVER — Roy Ozanne, 79, White River, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at his home near White River.

Survivors include four daughters, Melody Walker, Maywood, Neb., Faye Chambliss, Murdo, Gaye Ozanne, Pierre, Wendy Brotherton, Pierre; and one son, Lee Ozanne, Kennebec.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at White River Community Event Center, with visitation one hour before services. Burial will follow at White River Cemetery.

Sandoz Chapel of the Pines, in Valentine, Neb., is in charge of arrangements.

HILL CITY — Martha Canfield, 98, Hill City, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at Colonial Manor in Custer.

Arrangements are pending with Isburg-McColley's Chapel in Custer.

Helen Baumgarten Weller

LEMMON — Helen Baumgarten Weller, 87, Lemmon, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon.

Survivors include one daughter, Beverly Erchul, Hot Springs; one son, Daniel Baumgarten, Lemmon; a brother, Bill Lemke, Lemmon; a sister Alice Ipoch, Wenatchee, Wash.; a step-daughter, Esther Carmichael, Lemmon; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Lemmon, with the Rev. Harold Watrous officiating. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery in Lemmon.

Rudolph Lewis Longpre

BELLE FOURCHE — Rudolph Lewis Longpre, 98, Belle Fourche, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at Belle Fourche Long Term Health Care.

Survivors include one granddaughter and a son-in-law.

Arrangements are pending with Kline-Frost Funeral Chapel.

Irma M. Dungey

ALADDIN, Wyo. — Irma M. Dungey, 83, Aladdin, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at Lookout Memorial Hospital in Spearfish.

Survivors include a son, Gary Dungey, and a daughter, Sherry Kirksey, both of Belle Fourche; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, at First Congregational Church in Belle Fourche, with the Rev. Buck Malone officiating. Burial will be at the family ranch.

Kline-Frost Funeral Chapel of Belle Fourche is in charge of arrangements.

Harry Arthur Harmon

RAPID CITY — Harry Arthur Harmon, 84, Rapid City, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include his three children, Dolores Kiel, Sedona, Ariz., Darla Gray, St. Maries, Idaho, and Richard Harmon, Rapid City.

Arrangements are pending with Campbell, Paula & Quinn Funeral Home.

John Henry 'Jack' Leichtnam

PARAGOULD, Ark. — John Henry "Jack" Leichtnam, 62, Paragould, formerly of Presho, S.D., died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Survivors include his special friend, Lola Lesley, Paragould; mother, Martha Leichtnam, Presho; one son, Mike Leichtnam, of Hot Springs, Mont.; one daughter, Bernadette Hall, Palisades, Idaho; two grandchildren; and five sisters, Mary Whipple, Charlotte Mortenson, and Tootie Bailey, all of Presho, Charlene Nies, Martin, S.D., and Deanna Sundall, Kennebec, S.D.

There will be a rosary at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Presho with services to follow at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Tim Hoag officiating.

Burial will be at Holy Angel's Catholic Cemetery in Presho.

Wevik Funeral Home in Chamberlain is in charge of arrangements.

Richard Robert Mills

RAPID CITY — Richard Robert Mills, 48, Rapid City, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, in Gillette, Wyo.

Arrangements are pending with Rooks & Kirk Funeral Home.

Verna A. Brunson Hix

RAPID CITY — Verna Hix, 64, Rapid City, formerly of Hot Springs and White River, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at Rapid City Regional Hospital after a long illness.

She was born April 9, 1936, at Murdo, to Vern and Ada (Swan) Brunson. She graduated from White River High School in 1954. On July 27, 1954, Verna was united in marriage to Robert K. Hix in Pierre. To this union, three children were born: Mike, Bobbi and Vicky.

They lived in White River until 1974, when they made their home in rural Hot Springs. In July 2000, the couple moved to Rapid City due to failing health.

Verna was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She enjoyed gardening and crafting, and her little friend, Cutie Pie.

Grateful to have shared her life are her husband, Bob, Rapid City; a son, Mike Hix of Edgemont; two daughters, Bobbi Hix and Vicky Hix, both of Rapid City; three grandchildren, Robert, Nicholas and Danielle; five brothers, Darrel Brunson, Sturgis, Charlie Brunson, Kadoka, Bud Brunson, Jerome, Idaho, Jack Brunson, Edgemont, and Jim Brunson, Belvidere; three sisters, Jeannie (Swede) Larson, Blunt, Judy (Kenny) Finck, Newell, and Sue (Terry) Byrd, Belle Fourche; special family friend, Charlie Baddeley of Anthony, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents, Vern and Ada Brunson; and her youngest sister, Jo Kossman.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, at Isburg-McColley's Chapel in Hot Springs.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at Isburg-McColley's Chapel in Hot Springs, with the Rev. Gary Warren officiating.

Burial will be in the Minnekahta Valley Cemetery, near Hot Springs.

Dorothy E. Shining

WATERLOO, Iowa — Dorothy E. Shining, 103, Waterloo, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at Friendship Village in Waterloo.

Survivors include two sons, William A. Shining, Waterloo, and Dr. H. Streeter Shining, Rapid City; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services were Tuesday, Jan. 2, at Garden View Chapel with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, both in Waterloo.

Garden View Chapel in Waterloo is in charge of arrangements.

B. Jane Chapman

SPEARFISH — B. Jane Chapman, 80, Spearfish, formerly of Belle Fourche, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, in Rapid City.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary Jo Ginsbach, Spearfish; one son, John Chapman, Saginaw, Mich.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jacquie Kelman, Saginaw, Mich.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at Summit Open Bible Fellowship Church in Belle Fourche, with the Rev. Rick Brennan officiating.

DeLaine Olson

MCLAUGHLIN — DeLaine Olson, 69, McLaughlin, died on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at Mobridge Regional Hospital.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in McLaughlin, with the Rev. Dennis Fonkert officiating.

Burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Larson's Funeral Home in Mobridge is in charge of arrangements.
