BISON — Ella Mae Knutson, 89, Bison, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, N.D.

Arrangements are pending with Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon.

Ernest A. Heiser

BELVIDERE — Ernest A. Heiser, 92, Belvidere, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at Kadoka Care Center in Kadoka.

Survivors include his wife, Annabelle Heiser, Belvidere; and three sisters, Pearl Gross, Lake Geneva, Wis., Vera Decker, Aberdeen, and Hazel Kub, Huron.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a vigil service at 7 p.m., today at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Kadoka. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, at the church, with the Rev. Bob Baden officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Rush Funeral Home of Philip is in charge of arrangements.

Stan E. Kaitfors

BELLE FOURCHE — Stan E. Kaitfors, 80, Belle Fourche, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at Fort Meade Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Survivors include six children, Jackie McCullough, Freehold, N.J., Wayne Dixon, Green Bay, Wis., Stan Kaitfors Jr., Duluth, Minn., Claudia Wilson, Glenrock, Wyo., Sandra Kaitfors, Pueblo, Colo., and Dawn Stary, Montevideo, Minn.; one sister, Maybelle Poor, Hot Springs; three brothers, Raymond Kaitfors, Neil Kaitfors and Lawrence Kaitfors, all of Ralph; 23 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, at Kline-Frost Funeral Chapel. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at St. James Lutheran Church in Belle Fourche, with the Rev. Hans Sacrison officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at Highland Cemetery in Casper, Wyo.

Shirley L. Lampert

RAPID CITY — Shirley L. Lampert, 79, Rapid City and formerly of Philip, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include two daughters, Viola Moody, Philip, and Muriel Neisses, Powell, Wyo.

Arrangements are pending with Rush Funeral Home of Philip.

Kenneth Wayne ‘Kink' Anderson

MIDLAND — Kenneth Wayne "Kink" Anderson, 79, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at Philip Nursing Home in Philip.

Kenneth Wayne Anderson, better known as ‘Kink,' was born Aug. 21, 1921, at Midland to William and Olive (Seward) Anderson. Kink attended grade school in the Ottumwa area and graduated from Midland High School in 1938 at the age of 16. He and his friend, Willie Drew, then "hopped" on the freight train and "bummed" their way to Oregon, where his aunt lived. He worked in the Oregon sawmills and later returned to the Midland area where he worked at several jobs until joining the Army Air Corps in 1942. He served in England and France in the 352nd Fighter Squadron until his discharge in 1945.

Kink was united in marriage to Anna Marie Roseth on Feb. 23, 1943, at Atlantic City, N.J. After returning from the service in 1945, Kink was employed by Archie Joy Enterprises and Harold (Stub) Joy until 1949. In 1950, he and Danny Mulcahy went into partnership, starting the A & M Grocery Store. They operated it together until 1953, when Kink sold his interest to Danny.

Kink was appointed the Midland postmaster in 1954. His wife, Marie, began working at the post office as a clerk at this time. Marie retired in 1979, and Kink retired in 1981.

Kink was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. He also was active in the Commercial Club, served on the Midland School Board and was a member of the American Legion.

When Kink was 9 years old, he started a lifelong hobby of wood carving, creating numerous detailed chains, tools, wagons, stagecoaches and other wooden pieces. These works of art are on display in family homes and in the High Plains Heritage Center in Spearfish. One of Kink's favorite activities was singing and playing guitar, banjo and mandolin with his friends and his son.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Marie Anderson of Midland; his daughters, Judy Daly of Midland, LaVonne Wheeler and her husband, Bill, of Newcastle, Wyo.; his son, Dr. Wayne Anderson and his wife, April, of Spearfish; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Kink was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Maurice and Curt; and one grandson, Patrick Wayne Daly.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at Rush Funeral Chapel in Philip, and for one hour before services, which will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Midland, with Pastor Paul Bly officiating. Interment will be at the Midland Cemetery.

A memorial is established.

Clarence Waldner

ONIDA — Clarence Waldner, 77, Onida, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre.

Survivors include one sister, Anna Waldner, Onida; and one brother, Maynard Waldner, Eureka, Mont.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, at Onida Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Onida Cemetery.

Feigum Funeral Home of Pierre is in charge of arrangements.

Nevada Mae Smith

RAPID CITY — Nevada Mae (Drury) Smith, 89, Rapid City, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at a local nursing home.

Survivors include her husband, Fred Smith, Rapid City; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending with Behrens Mortuary.

Katheen Agnes Peed

STURGIS - Katheen Agnes Peed, 88, Sturgis, and formerly of Lead and Spearfish, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at Sturgis Long Term Care Center.

Katheen was born July 26, 1912, to Fred and Catherine (Regan) Mayer at Lead, S.D. She grew up in Lead and attended school in Lead. She was married to Glen A. Peed at Deadwood, S.D., on July 27, 1928. The couple lived in Lead until Mr. Peed died in 1980. They had been married for 52 years at the time of his death. Katheen moved to Spearfish and lived there until moving to Rapid City. The past six months, she had lived at the Sturgis Community Long Term Care Center.

Katheen was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Lead, the Senior Citizens in Spearfish and the RSVP Program. She was active in Deadwood and Lead, in her church and acted as Mrs. Santa Claus in the Ben Franklin Store in Deadwood when she lived there.

Survivors include one son, Julyan Peed and his wife, Joan, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two daughters, Alice and her husband, Lyle Bradford, of Rapid City, and Verna Sandidge of Deadwood; a special friend, Jim Bousa of Rapid City; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, nine brothers and sisters, one grandson and one great-grandson.

Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Lead, with the Rev. Lloyd Miller officiating. Inurnment will be at West Lead Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a memorial to the Alzheimer's Foundation.

Alex E. Smith

PIERRE - Alex E. Smith, 85, Pierre, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at Maryhouse Sub-Acute Center.

Survivors include his wife, Erma Smith, Pierre; one son, Jim Smith, Pierre; and three sisters, Marie Jarrard, Buffalo, Wyo., and Velma Higgins and Dorothy Wilcox, both of Sturgis.

Visitation will be today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Feigum Funeral Home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, at First United Methodist Church in Pierre. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.

Donna Zielsdorf

EDGEMONT - Donna Zielsdorf, 58, Edgemont, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at her home.

Survivors include one brother, Lyle Harthun, Hiawatha, Iowa; five nephews; and one niece.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, at Isburg-VandeBossche Chapel in Edgemont. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Marion Gray officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Rozella V. Rueschenberg

RAPID CITY - Rozella V. Rueschenberg, 87, Rapid City, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at Westhills Village Health Care Center.

She was born March 4, 1913, at Turtin, S.D., the daughter of Frederick and Clara (St. Peter) Remily. She grew up and attended schools at Turtin. She attended beauty school at Aberdeen before her marriage to Jerome K. Rueschenberg in 1937. The couple made their home at Doland, S.D., following their marriage. Rozella owned and operated a beauty shop in Doland for many years. Following retirement in 1974, the couple moved to Rapid City, later moving to Casa Grande, Ariz. Following her husband's death in 1988, Rozella returned to Rapid City.

Survivors include two sons, James Rueschenberg, Rosa Rio, Mexico, and Kenneth Rueschenberg, Las Vegas, Nev.; two daughters, Arlette Muehl and her husband, Larry, Sioux Falls, and Sally Walter and her husband Jim, Rapid City; a sister, Febiola Welch, Rapid City; eight grandchildren, Lisa Muehl, Jeff Muehl, Leslie Morgan, Scott Rueschenberg, Michelle Colbath, Jill Hindbjorgen, Jon Walter and Kelsey Rueschenberg; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and 11 brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, at Osheim-Catron Funeral Home. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, with the Rev. Brian Christensen as the celebrant. Interment will be at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

A memorial has been established.

Verna A. Hix

RAPID CITY - Verna A. (Brunson) Hix, 64, Rapid City, and formerly of Hot Springs and White River, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Arrangements are pending with Isburg-McColley's Funeral Home of Hot Springs.

B. Jane Chapman

SPEARFISH - B. Jane Chapman, 80, Spearfish, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at Rapid City.

Survivors include one son, John Chapman, Saginaw, Mich.; one daughter, Mary Jo Ginsbach, Spearfish; one sister; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending with Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche.

Norma K. Zerhusen

RAPID CITY - Norma K. Zerhusen, 87, Rapid City, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at The Victorian House.

Survivors include one nephew, Martin Enterman, Rapid City.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, at St. Therese the Little Flower Catholic Church, with the Rev. Brian Lane officiating. Inurnment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

Behrens Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Royal R. Bittner

RAPID CITY — Royal R. Bittner, 80, Rapid City, died Friday, February 2, 2001, at a local nursing home.

Royal was born to Richard and Alma (Schnittger) Bittner in Chelsea, South Dakota. He attended and graduated from Northfield High School in Northfield, S.D., in 1938. In 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Guadalcanal until he was honorably discharged in 1946. He served with the National Guard for a few years before he started work with the Rapid City Fire Department in 1951, where he retired as captain in 1976, after 25 years of service.

Royal was preceded in death by his father, Richard, and one brother, Herman.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 33 years, Verna (Pat) Bittner, of Rapid City; his mother, Alma Bittner (103 years), of Aberdeen, S.D.; sister, Norma Fredrickson, and her husband, Marty, of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; two daughters, Shirley Hawkins, and her husband, Terry, of Montrose, Colo., Marva Sears, and her husband, Bob, of Andover, Minn.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday at Behrens Mortuary in Rapid City.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Behrens Mortuary Chapel, with Reverend William Paepke officiating.

Burial will be 2 p.m. Monday at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, South Dakota.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials be sent to the American Heart Association.
