Audrey Viola Thomas

HOT SPRINGS — Audrey Viola Thomas, 76, Hot Springs, died Friday, February 2, 2001, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Audrey was born October 16, 1924, at Fairfax, S.D., the daughter of Jerome and Ruby (Cashman) Kimball, the ninth of twelve children.

She grew up in the Martin, S.D., area, where she attended country school. She moved to the Belvidere area, where she married Frank Kusiek in the early 1940s. To this union were born four children.

The couple lived at Belvidere, where they operated the Hill Top Garage until the death of her husband in 1959.

In 1960, she married Raymond Thomas. They moved to Rapid City, where she worked for C.P. Clare, Co., and Control Data, and for a number of years she was a dealer/manager for Tupperware home parties in the West River area.

In the late 1990s, they moved to Hot Springs, where they resided in the State Soldiers Home until her death.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond E. Thomas, Hot Springs; four sons, David Kusiek, Las Vegas, Nev., Marvin Kusiek, Rapid City, Bill Kusiek, Rapid City; Gregory Thomas, Rapid City; one daughter, Dawn Kusiek-Tola, Martinsville, Va.; four brothers, Walter Kimball, Grand Marais, Minn., Everett Kimball, Twin Falls, Idaho, Wayne "Bud" Kimball, Mesa, Ariz., and Chester "Bob" Kimball, Duluth, Minn.; one sister, Bernice Fetter, Martin, S.D.; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Frank Kusiek; and infant son, Tracy Thomas; five brothers; and one sister.

Graveside services and inurnment will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2001, at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, with Chaplain Deb Geelsdatter officiating.

Family and friends will meet at the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home in Rapid City at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday and proceed to the cemetery.

Babe De King

SIOUX FALLS — Babe De King, 62, Sioux Falls, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at her home.

Survivors include her husband, Roy De King, Sioux Falls; three sons, Dwane De King, Black Hawk, and Alan and Kevin De King, both of Sioux Falls; one daughter, Deborah De King, Sioux Falls; two brothers, Ron Buus and Roger Buss, both of Lennox; one sister, Betty Parrish, Thorton, Colo.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, at Miller Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. Scripture service, followed by a rosary, will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, at St. Joseph Cathedral in Sioux Falls. Burial will be at St. Michael Cemetery in Sioux Falls.

Nicholas R. Osmonson

RAPID CITY — Nicholas R. Osmonson, 6 months, Rapid City, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include his parents, Donald and Kelli Osmonson, Rapid City; grandparents, Gary and Jennifer Osmonson, Rapid City, Debbie Jones, Rapid City, and George Bradstream, Box Elder; and great-grandparents, Virginia Evans, Rapid City, and George and Lois Bradstream, Rapid City.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, at Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bruce Herrboldt officiating.

Katharine M. Norton

RAPID CITY — Katharine M. Norton, 86, Rapid City, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at a Rapid City nursing home.

Survivors include her husband, James J. Norton, Rapid City; and a sister, Ruth Lamont, Aberdeen.

Arrangements are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home in Rapid City.

Marjorie Greenough

LEAD — Marjorie Greenough, 95, Lead and Martin, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at her daughter's home in Lead.

Survivors include three daughters, Laverne Clem, Lead, Donna Greenough, Martin, and Barbara Sears, Rapid City; two sons, Raymond Greenough, Martin, and Bill Greenough, Oelrichs; one sister, Margaret Strain, Hot Springs; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time on Monday.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at Lindsey Memorial Presbyterian Church in Martin, with the Rev. Terry Olthoff officiating. Burial will be in Bennett County Cemetery near Martin.

Chaput Memorial Chapel in Lead is in charge of arrangements.

Rocky R. Anthony

BOX ELDER — Rocky R. Anthony, 46, Box Elder, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Rocky Richard Anthony was born July 3, 1954, to Charles Fogg and Thelma (Richardson) Anthony in Hot Springs.

Rocky was a kind, gentle, loving man, one of nine children. He attended school at Holy Rosary, then went on to finish school in St. Paul, Minn.

An electrician by trade, his thirst for knowledge lead him into this computer age. He built and repaired computers, having recently started his own business, Sizemore, Ent.

Rocky was a forgiving man and truly cherished the people in his life. Rocky will always remain a part of everyone who loved and knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Alexander, Rapid City; one son, Rocky C. Anthony, Minneapolis; one daughter, Katherine Anthony, Minneapolis; his mother, Thelma Anthony, Edgemont; three brothers, Joe Anthony, Seattle, Fred Anthony, Minneapolis, and Lyle Anthony, Olympia, Wash.; and five sisters, Tami Fogg, Cle Elum, Wash., Clarice Goure, Rapid City, Angel Cope, Oelrichs, Georje Anthony, Edgemont, and Julie Anthony.

One-night wake services will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pine Ridge.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at Holy Rosary Mission Catholic Church in Pine Ridge, with the Rev. Bill Pauly officiating.

Burial will be at Holy Rosary Mission Catholic Cemetery, Pine Ridge.

Sioux Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

James L. Smith

ORO VALLEY, Ariz. — James L. Smith, born in Rapid City on Jan. 1, 1929, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth, and three children, Jeffrey, Jennifer and Albert, and five grandchildren, ages 1-12.

Jim served in the U.S. Navy from 1947 to 1951, during the Korean War and after active duty continued with the Bureau of Reclamation and Department of Navy as a civilian.

Ralph J. Bachand

STURGIS — Ralph J. Bachand, 88, Sturgis, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Lookout Memorial Hospital in Spearfish.

Survivors include one son, Gail Bachand, Sioux Falls; one daughter, Mayola West, New Underwood; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Frances Wetz, Sturgis; and one brother, Oscar Bachand, Madison.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, and from 8 a.m. until services, which will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Harold Delbridge officiating. Burial will follow at Bear Butte Cemetery.

Mary Ellen Volk

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Mary Ellen Volk, 56, Scottsdale, and formerly of Rapid City, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, in Phoenix.

Survivors include her husband, Michael Volk, Scottsdale; and four children, Steve Volk, Rapid City, Kim McDonald, Monument, Colo., Rick Volk, Parker, Colo., and Jeff Volk, Phoenix.

Arrangements are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home in Rapid City.

Elinor Mary Driscoll

SUN CITY WEST, Ariz. — Funeral services for Elinor Mary Driscoll, 84, of Sun City West, Ariz., and Spearfish, S.D., will be at 10 a.m. Friday, February 2, 2001, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lead, with Father William Zandri officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Chaput Memorial Chapel in Lead. Burial will be in Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Elinor Mary Driscoll died unexpectedly but peacefully at Dell Webb Hospital late Sunday night, Jan. 28, 2001, after a sudden turn for the worse during her long bout with breast cancer.

Elinor was born and raised in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She married Bob Driscoll Jr. of Lead, S.D., in 1937 and lived in South Dakota most of her married life.

A resident of Sun City West for some 20 years, she is survived by one son, Mike; a sister, Geraldine Coughlin; three grandchildren, Whitney, Colleen and Michael; six great-grandchildren; and seven nieces and nephews.

Elinor was a woman of generous heart who gave often and quietly to many community causes, her church, and others in personal need. She was also a member of the PEO Chapter in Sun City West and a volunteer hospital worker, and throughout her long life, belonged to many clubs and social groups. She loved to entertain her family and friends.

She will be buried with her late husband in Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, S.D. A memorial will be established for the Phoebe Heart Free Library and the Historic Opera House Society, both in Lead, S.D.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chaput Memorial Chapel in Lead.

Pernia 'Polly' Wombacher

CUSTER — Pernia "Polly" Wombacher, 95, Custer, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at Custer Community Hospital.

Survivors include one sister, Mary Lynn Wombacher of Leighton, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Custer, with a wake service at 7 p.m.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at the church.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Lawrence, Neb.

Isburg-McColley's Chapels of Custer is in charge of arrangements.

Alice M. Morris

NEWCASTLE, Wyo. — Funeral services for Alice M. Morris, 88, will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at First United Methodist Church in Newcastle, with Dr. Robert Firebaugh officiating.

Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Worden Funeral Directors of Newcastle.

The family prefers memorial contributions to Weston County Health Services or First United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Morris died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Weston County Health Services in Newcastle.

Mrs. Morris was born March 18, 1912, at Ragan, Neb., the daughter of Kitty Irene Holbert and Howard Manley Stevens. She was a graduate of Maywood (Neb.) High School.

Alice married Lloyd A. Denny at McCook, Neb., on June 30, 1932, and married Louis L. Morris in Newcastle, Wyo., on Aug. 19, 1974.

She worked for many years as a grocery clerk at several Newcastle grocery stores.

In 1963, she started working as secretary for the Newcastle High School principal and continued to work until 1974. During that time, she touched the lives of many students.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Newcastle, Chapter X, PEO, the Dirt Daubers Garden Club, Weston County Retired Personnel, and Pythian Sisters.

Mrs. Morris was named Beta Sigma Phi's First Lady Of The Year in 1987. Alice enjoyed her home, gardening and the organizations that she belonged to. She was a friend to all who knew her. Her family was her pride and joy.

Survivors include a daughter, Jo Ann Fassbender and husband Bill of Newcastle; two sons, George Denny and wife Mary of San Jose, Calif., and Ed Denny and wife Arlene of Laramie, Wyo.; stepdaughter Betty Lou Henderson of Mount Vernon, Wash.; and one sister, Margaret Olsen of LaHabra, Calif. Also surviving are grandchildren Debra Samo and husband Art of Arroyo Grande, Calif., Lori Denny of Cheyenne, Wyo., Cindy Newell and husband Andy of San Jose, Lloyd Denny and wife Marian of Livermore, Calif., and Melanie Clairmont of Mount Vernon, Wash.; and great-grandchildren, Lauren and Kristen Samo, Allison and Steven Denny, Marian and Mason Derrick, and Jennifer and Jalene Dettillion. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by Lloyd Denny on Aug. 22, 1964; Louis L. Morris on Oct. 2, 1984; her parents; one brother; and one sister.
