Donald T. Huff
STURGIS — Donald T. Huff, 65, Sturgis, died Friday, March 2, 2001, at Fort Meade Veterans Affairs Medical Center near Sturgis.
Survivors include one son, Tommy Huff, North Carolina; one daughter, Christina Huff, California; one brother, Ronald Huff, Sacramento, Calif.; and three sisters, Margaret Overgaard, Arizona, Jacqualine Findley, Vale, and Lorretta Pence, Sacramento.
At his request, cremation has taken place and no services will be held.

Claradel Pich
MARTIN — Claradel Pich, 72, Martin, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, Jim Pich, Martin; one daughter, Janet Boulanger, Casper, Wyo.; two grandsons; and one brother, George Tellifero, Pineville, La.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 8, at Legion Auditorium in Martin.
Ziegler Funeral Home of Martin is in charge of arrangements.
Jason Clifford Neill
RAPID CITY — Jason Clifford Neill, 29, Rapid City, died Sunday March 4, 2001, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
He was born May 28, 1971, at Rapid City.
He graduated from Rapid City Central High School in 1989. He was a current student at National American University.
Jason joined the United States Army in 1990 and was medically discharged in 1995. He had been stationed in North Carolina and Egypt. He was a commercial diver specializing in underwater welding. Jason lived in Michigan and one year in Taipei, Taiwan.
Evelyn and Jason were to be married.
He is survived by his fiancee, Evelyn "Evey" Huang, Rapid City; his mother, Lorraine Rega, Rapid City; two brothers Delmer "Danny" Neill and Cory Rega, both of Rapid City; three sisters, Melanie Stephens and her husband, Kelly, and Shelley Thompson, all of Rapid City, and Delana Davis, and her husband, Rick, Black Hawk; his grandmother, Doris Collins, Rapid City; his best friend and cousin, Tim, and his wife, Rose Larsen; uncles Loren Collins, Lynden Collins and his wife, Donna, and Kenneth Collins and his wife, Connie, all of Rapid City, and Terry Collins and his wife, Kay, Chicago; aunts Cheryl Wiles and her husband, William, and Jolene Schanaman and her husband, Dan, all of Tempe, Ariz.; four nieces; six nephews; and numerous loving cousins.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandfather Clifford D. Collins and cousin James L. Collins.
Memorial services will be Thursday, March 8, at 3 p.m., at Bible Fellowship Church, 1212 E. Fairmont, with Pastor Dick Nickel officiating.

Alex Eiesland
SIOUX FALLS — Alex Eiesland, 80, Sioux Falls, died Monday, March 5, 2001, at home.
Alexander Eiesland, son of Gabriel and Amelia (Naglestad) Eiesland, was born Sept. 15, 1920, on a farm near Inwood/Larchwood, Iowa. He grew up and received his education in the Larchwood area. In October of 1942, Alex entered the United States Air Force. He served as an instruments mechanic on B-29 bombers.
Alex was united in marriage with Mabel Roskeland on June 6, 1944, in Clayton, N.M. Following his honorable discharge, they settled on a farm northwest of Canton for 45 years. While he enjoyed farming, Alex was a wonderfully free-spirited man who had a number of other interests. He bought, trained and sold teams of horses. Alex was well-known for hitching his team to the sleigh during Christmas time. He also was a carpenter. At the age of 63, Alex took up downhill skiing. He continued skiing until well into his 70s. At the age of 69, he entered the 100-meter dash in the South Dakota Centennial Games in which he took second place in his age division. During his lifetime, he traveled to 48 states and Europe. His favorite destination was his beloved Norway, which he visited twice.
The Eieslands moved to Sioux Falls in 1991.
He was a member of Abiding Savior Free Lutheran Church, Canton American Legion, and the Sons of Norway.
Alex had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. He sang for the Norse Glee Club, the Greig Chorus and for many funerals and Sunday church services. Last summer, the recorded 1930s and 1940s music of Alex and his sisters was transferred from several old 78 records to a CD.
Alex always took time to watch his children and grandchildren participate in their activities and sports. He remained a lifelong baseball fan and was a fixture at the State Amateur Baseball Tournament.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Mabel Eiesland, Sioux Falls; two sons, Gregory Eiesland and his wife, Lorys, Rapid City, and David Eiesland and his wife, Jan, Sioux Falls; one daughter, Barbara Bong and her husband, Robbin, Monument, Colo.; six grandchildren, Alissa Messinger and her husband, Trevor, Aaron Eiesland and his wife, Elizabeth, Eric Bong and his wife, Meredith, Mathew Bong, Jess Eiesland, Laura Eiesland; three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Drake and Mason Alexander Messinger; three sisters, Oneva Helgerson, Northfield, Minn., Alma Rikansrud and Ione Wick, both of Sioux Falls; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Olaf Eiesland; and five sisters, Amanda Jones, Rebecca Johnson, Opal Held, Evelyn Eiesland, and Viola Van Slyke.
Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 8, with the family present from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 9, at Abiding Savior Free Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls.
Burial will be at Beaver Creek Lutheran Cemetery in Worthing.
Esther Schmidt
DRAPER — Esther Schmidt, 81, Draper, died Saturday, March 3, at Beverly Healthcare Center in Pierre.
Survivors include three sons, Clifford Schmidt, Harrold, Kenneth Schmidt, Vivian, and David Schmidt, Draper; five daughters, Dora Lee Dolbey, Dayton, Ohio, Freda Hendershot and Donna Wulf, both of Gillette, Wyo., Carol Hamann, Pierre, and Gloria Dowling, Cheyenne, Wyo.; one sister, Agnes Schmidt, Draper; 22 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be one hour before services, which will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Draper, with the Rev. David Otten officiating. Burial will be at Draper City Cemetery.
Elaine R. Black Bull
PORCUPINE — Elaine R. Black Bull, 57, Porcupine, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at Pine Ridge Hospital.
Survivors include six sons, Elvin Black Bull, Lamar Black Bull, Arnold Black Bull, Fabian Black Bull, Bevin Black Bull and Merton Black Bull Jr., all of Porcupine; one daughter, Michelle Black Bull, Porcupine; one sister, Noreen Lone Elk, Porcupine; and 12 grandchildren.
One-night wake services will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Hall in Porcupine.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 8, at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Hall, with the Rev. Cordelia Red Owl officiating. Burial will be at St. Alban's Episcopal Cemetery in Porcupine.
Richard M. Hoar
HOT SPRINGS — Richard M. Hoar, 78, Hot Springs, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Hot Springs.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Hoar, Hot Springs; two sons, Ivan Hoar, Hot Springs, and Marcus Hoar, Edgemont; three daughters, Amy Vargo, Las Vegas, Eunice Forney, Oelrichs, and Judy Ebeling; three sisters, Gwyneth Green, Lodgepole, Dorothy Haugen and Genevive Kopren, both of Bison; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Isburg-McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hot Springs, with the Rev. Kevin Clark officiating.
Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
Ralph Sparks Jr.
WINNER — Ralph Sparks Jr., 75, Winner, died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at Winner Regional Healthcare Center.
He is survived by his brother, Golder Sparks of Winner.
Visitation is before services, which will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, at Mason Funeral Home in Winner.
Burial will be at Winner Cemetery.
Mariah Marie Blue Bird
PINE RIDGE — Mariah Marie Blue Bird was stillborn Friday, March 2, 2001, at Pine Ridge Hospital.
Survivors include her parents, Howard Blue Bird and Amber Cortier, both of Pine Ridge; one sister, Jordan Blue Bird, Pine Ridge; maternal grandparents, Maynard and Lyla Cortier, No. Four Community, Pine Ridge; and paternal grandfather and stepmother, Brian and Sandra Blue Bird, Pine Ridge.
One-night wake services will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Seventh-day Adventist Church Center, No. Four Community, Pine Ridge.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, at Seventh-day Adventist Church Center, with the Rev. Richard Allison officiating.
Burial will be at Afraid of Horses Cemetery, No. Four Community, Pine Ridge.
Myrtle J. Huettl
RAPID CITY — Myrtle J. Huettl, 94, Rapid City, died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at a local nursing home.
Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Cordes, Cheyenne, Wyo.; two sons, Clete Huettl, Rapid City, and Mike Huettl, Ridgefield, Wash.; one sister, Clara Carter, Sioux Falls; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Rooks and Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City, and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., Friday, March 9, at Ellsworth Funeral Home in Madison.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 10, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madison.
John Henry Cole
KENNEBEC — John Henry Cole, 77, Kennebec, died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Survivors include two sons, David Cole, Rapid City, and Jeff Cole, Dakota Dunes; one daughter, Melody Smith,
Alliance, Neb.; one sister, Ethel Penningroth, Eugene, Ore.; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, at Wevik Funeral Chapel in Chamberlain.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 8, at United Methodist Church in Kennebec, with the Rev. Stephen Perry officiating.
Burial will be at Kennebec Cemetery.
Dr. Pamela R. Knutson
DENVER — Memorial services for Dr. Pamela Renee Knutson, 37, and baby Nicholas Stein, Denver, will be Saturday, March 10, 2001, at 2 p.m., at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis, S.D., with Pastor Harold Delbridge officiating.
Pamela died as the result of complications during her pregnancy with baby Nicholas. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date at the Steinman Ranch.
Dr. Knutson was born Aug. 2, 1963, at Rapid City to Gay and Julee (Bauer) Claymore. She grew up in Rapid City and graduated from Central High School in 1981.
She married Andrew S. Knutson in Rapid City on Aug. 4, 1984. To this union, two sons were born. The couple moved to Colorado in 1994, and Pamela attended the University of Colorado, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1999. She obtained her Doctorate in Pharmacy in May of 2000. She worked as a pharmacist at various Walgreens stores in Denver.
She was a member of Rapid City Central High School cheerleaders for three years while in high school and was a member of the Rho Chi Honor Society and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Colorado.
Survivors include her father, Gay, and his wife, Vicky Claymore, Henderson, Nev.; her mother and stepfather, Julee and Lyle Steinman, Piedmont, S.D.; two sons, Sean Matthew and Samuel Alexander Knutson, Lakewood; one sister, Debi and her husband, Brent Sandstrom, Black Hawk, S.D.; ex-husband, Andrew S. Knutson, Lakewood; maternal grandparents, Harold and June Bauer, Rapid City; her partner and companion, Brent Stein, Parker, Colo.; uncles Kent and his wife, Colleen Bauer, Linn and his wife, Beth Bauer, Elra and his wife, Barb Claymore, Teddy and his wife, Dawn Claymore; five aunts, Bev and her husband, Gunner Earley, Betty and her husband, Hilton Haralson, Patsy and her husband, Forrest Futtere, Dolly Symonds, Peggy and her husband, Dan Bourdo; also numerous cousins and three nieces and two nephews and her children's paternal grandparents, Robert and Annie Knutson, Rapid City.
She was preceded in death by her maternal great-grandmother, Bessie Bauer; her paternal grandparents, John and Berniece Claymore; and one cousin, Brian Arends.
