VIBORG -- Marjorie Peterson, 87, of Viborg died Thursday (Feb. 10, 2005) at Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home, Viborg.

Services are 1:30 p.m. Monday at Bethany Lutheran Church, Viborg.

Visitation is from 1-8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 7-8 p.m., at the Viborg Funeral Home.

Marie Beshara

RAPID CITY -- Marie V. Beshara, 91, passed away January 21, 2005, at her home where she was cared for by her son, Paul, for many years.

Marie was born April 18, 1913, in Rapid City, SD, to William Whalen and Catherine Carmody Whalen. As a young girl, she grew up with her family in Terraville, SD. She attended high school in Terraville and graduate from Lead High School. After high school, she attended nursing school at St. Joseph's Hospital in Deadwood. On February 12, 1934, she married her sweetheart, Helmar Beshara, in Lead, SD. They lived in Deadwood for many years and then moved to Rapid City in 1958. Raising 11 children occupied most of her time, but she still had time for Little League and keeping books for the family business.

She was a member of the St. Ambrose and St. Therese Altar Society and was very active in the Catholic Church. Marie's love for God sustained her through many trials throughout her life. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and loved ones.

Marie is survived by six daughters: Marie T. (Jim) Hovland, Aberdeen, SD; Rose Justice, Rapid City, SD; Patricia (Ed) Olsen, Bishop, CA; Sharon (Charlie) Dickens, Fruitland, NM; Mary (Doug) Sall, Yankton, SD; Joan (Karl) Freiberg, Norway, MI; four sons: William (Sandy) Beshara, Rapid City, SD; Paul Beshara, Rapid City, SD; John (Cheryle) Beshara, Waterflow, NM; Steve (Mary) Beshara, Rapid City, SD; 29 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one sister, Genevieve Pierce, Murphys, CA; one brother, Joseph Stratman, Kingman, AZ; one sister-in-law, Florence Stratman, Northglenn, CO.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Helmar, in 1968, and a son, Michael in 1961; and a grandson, Jacob in 1981; two sisters: Anna Lushbough and Margaret Marsh; and one brother, Jerome Stratman.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Jan. 25, 2005, at the Church of St. Therese, the Little Flower, with Fr. William Zandri presiding. Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to: St. Elizabeth Seton Scholarship Fund, 431 Oakwood St., Rapid City, SD.

Elizabeth Schroeder

Elizabeth Schroeder, age 94 of Yankton, South Dakota formerly of Menominee, Nebraska, died on Friday, February 11, 2005, at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, February 15, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Menominee with the Rev. Michael Schmitz officiating.

Burial will be at St. Boniface Cemetery in Menominee, Nebraska.

Visitation will be on Monday, February 14 from 1:00 p.m.-5:30 p.m. with a rosary at 2:00 p.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington; and a Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m. at St. Boniface Church in Menominee, NE. Visitation continues on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church.

Pallbearers will be Brian Lange, Todd Pinkelman, Sheila Fitzgerald, Myron Klug, Rhonda Schmidt, Dale Sudbeck, Vern Kathol, Jennifer Privett, Travis Schroeder, Travis Schroeder and Cody Schroeder.

Elizabeth was born on June 19, 1910, in Beaver Creek, Nebraska, to Edward and Rose (Tramp) Feldhacker. She grew up in the Beaver Creek area and lived in the Beaver Creek and Menominee area all her life. She married Henry Schroeder Jr. on June 21, 1932, in Menominee, Nebraska. Henry died on April 20, 1992, at the age of 83. In June of 1996, Elizabeth entered the Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton.

She was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers. She enjoyed gardening, baking, cooking and flowers. She also loved being with her family. She had a great smile and used it often.

Survivors include 11 children and spouses: Marjorie Kathol of Hartington; Henrietta and Donavin Sudbeck of Bow Valley; James and Renee Schroeder of Yankton; Bernadette and Edward Lange of Bow Valley; Alice and Gerald Klug of St. Helena; Leander and Cheryl Schroeder of Menominee; Dorothy and Arlynn Schmidt of Elk Point, South Dakota; Daniel and Joan Schroeder of Menominee; Kathy and Keith Pinkelman of Bloomfield; Allen and Cindy Schroeder of Menominee; and David and Sally Schroeder of Irene; 69 grandchildren; 88 great-grandchildren; 6 step great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; 3 sisters: Rosella Pixler of Spencer, Iowa; Hildegard Kuehler of Spencer, Iowa; and Sister Grace Feldhacker, O.S.B. of Yankton; 2 brothers: Joseph and Donna Feldhacker of Onawa, Iowa, and Gilbert Feldhacker of Milford, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry; 2 sons: Joseph and Charles Schroeder; 2 grandsons: Jody Kathol and Henry Schroeder III; 2 great-grandsons: Nicholas Joseph Lange and Isaac Hoskinson.

Bernard A. Brown, Ph.D

Born to Eternal Life Feb. 1 2005, age 79 years. Beloved husband of Marian (nee Pendergast). Dearest father of James Thomas, Leslie (Richard) Talbert and Lauren (Bruce) Brueckner. Papa to Kiristin, Jimmy, Kaitlin, Sarah, Rachel, Erick and Lauren. Brother of Sally Welter, Brother in-law of Ernistine James and Mary Alice (Kenneth) Yarbrough. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services, Fri., Feb. 4, 7PM at Spring Creek Church. Visitation Friday evening at the church from 4-7PM. Private internment Wisconsin Memorial Park.

Served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during WWII. Dr. Brown was a Microbiologist for the Marquette Medical School (Medical College of Wisconsin) and Milwaukee Children's Hospital, Director of Laboratory, MML Health Services.

He was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. A member of Spring Creek Church (Garfield Baptist Church) where he served as Deacon and an Adult Fellowship Teacher for 35 years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Spring Creek Church appreciated.

Bernice Tiesen

Bernice Tiesen, 80, of Yankton, died Saturday, February, 5, 2005, at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls.

Bernice Mary Van Gerpen was born on January 10, 1925, at Yankton, SD to Bernard and Martha (Helgerson) Van Gerpen. She graduated from Irene High School in 1942. For a number of years she lived in Freeman before moving to Yankton. She volunteered at the Sacred Heart Hospital.

Survivors include a sister, Viola (Robert) Baily, Parker.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Vivian.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 403 Broadway, Yankton with burial in Rosehill Cemetery, Parker.

Arrangements by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home, Parker.

Elsie Redman

MENNO -- Elsie Redman, age 89, of Menno, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2005, at the Menno-Olivet Care Center, Menno, SD.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 19, 2005, at Grace Lutheran Church, Menno, with Rev. Brad Danielson officiating. Burial will be in the Menno Cemetery, Menno, SD.

Visitations will be 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, February 18, 2005, at the Aisenbrey-Kostel Funeral Home, Menno, and then one hour prior to the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Kelly Stern, Kyle Stern, Nathan Redman, Adam Weeman, Adel Valdes, Allen Boock, Corey Osmundson and Ken Vos.

Elsie was born to Nels and Emma (Sorenson) Jensen on May 7, 1915, in Turner County, South Dakota. She married Eugene Redman in Brookings, South Dakota, on May 7, 1935. They owned and operated Menno Creamery until returning to farming south of Menno. They retired from farming and moved into Menno in 1975. She was a loving wife and mother.

Happy to have shared her life are her children: Glenn (Rosemary) Redman, Menno, SD; Carol (Larry) Long, Harrisburg, SD; Patricia (David) Dartt, Omaha, NE; Deb (Glennis) Stern, Armour, SD; and Alan (Deb) Redman, Wahpeton, ND; grandchildren: Dawn Redman, Menno, SD; Julie (Wade) Hofer, Valley Springs, SD; Nikki Redman, Hanford, CA; Dale (Anna) Long, Harrisburg, SD; Susan (Ken) Vos, Harrisburg, SD; Kelly (Holly) Stern, Wall, SD; Kyle (Melissa) Stern, Hillsboro, ND; Amy (Adel) Valdes, Sioux Falls, SD; Rebecca (Adam) Weeman, Sioux Falls; Lori (Corey) Osmundson, Minneapolis, MN; Lynn (Allen) Boock, Fargo, ND; and Nathan (Bernice) Redman, St. Cloud, MN; thirteen great-grandchildren; two sisters: Doris Lee, Troy, NY, and Nanna Rames, Sioux Falls, SD; brother-in-law, Leland Sorenson, Sioux Falls, SD; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Jensen, Arkansas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four brothers, four sisters and two brothers-in-law.

Esther Jensen

Esther Marie Jensen, age 89, of Yankton, died Tuesday, February 15, 2005, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton.

A funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 19, 2005, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, rural Irene with Pastor Mindy Ehrke officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, Yankton.

Visitation is from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home, Yankton with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation resumes one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.

Pallbearers are David Jensen, Bob Smith, Chris Swensen, John Swensen, Vernon Swensen, Dean Thomson, James Wagner and Duane Wenzlaff. Honorary Pallbearers are all of Esther's grandchildren.

Esther Marie Jensen was born August 1, 1915, in Yankton County, South Dakota to Martin and Christina (Goodhope) Swensen. She attended Mayfield rural school and graduated from Viborg High School in 1933. She married Carl Jensen on February 8, 1935, at her parent's home in Yankton County. She worked 10 years at Yankton High School and many years at Sunshine Grocery Store. They farmed until 1974 and then moved into Yankton.

She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and enjoyed quilting and crocheting.

Survivors are one daughter, Edith and her husband Art Korslund of Lennox, South Dakota; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters: Myrtle Anderson of Yankton and Alice Thomson of Yankton; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl on August 14, 1994; son, Jerome Jensen; daughter, Jeanette Wagner; two grandsons, Wayne and Keith Korslund; eight brothers; and five sisters.

Ronald 'Ron' Erickson

ELK POINT -- Ronald "Ron" Erickson, 71, of Elk Point died Thursday (Feb. 17, 2005) at Sioux Valley Vermillion Hospice.

Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Elk Point. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the church with the family present from 6:30-8 p.m.

Anderson-Siecke Funeral Home, Elk Point, is in charge of the arrangements.

Olive V. Hazuka

WAGNER -- Olive V. Hazuka, 88, of Wagner died Wednesday, February 16, 2005, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Wagner. Olive attained the age of 88 years, three months and 16 days.

Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 19, 2005, at the United Methodist Church in Wagner, with burial at the Lakeview Cemetery in Lake Andes, SD.

Visitation will be at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., followed by a prayer service.

Olive V. Hazuka, daughter of Edward and Molly (Mausch) Olsen, was born October 31, 1916, on a farm near Tabor, SD.

Olive attended country school in the Tabor area. She married Otto Hazuka on June 7, 1937, at Lake Andes and they made their home there. Otto died October 1, 1991.

Olive worked at Danks Pharmacy in Lake Andes for 15 years and then James Drug in Wagner for 14 years. She entered the Good Samaritan Center in Wagner on December 2, 2003.

Olive was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wagner.

Olive enjoyed horseback riding, dogs, gardens, eating pheasant, watching Mash and Jag and writing poetry. She loved traveling and was proud of the fact that she had put her hands in the waters of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Olive toured Rome's cathedrals and had been in Canada and Mexico. She will be remembered for her love of watching the sun rise and the stars at night, and her quiet, gentle demeanor; and yet her quiet strength.

Thankful for having shared her life are her cousin, Gail Mausch and husband, Willy of Chicago, IL; special friend, JoAnn Mareska and husband, Wayne of Wagner; and many friends.

Olive was preceded in death by her husband, Otto; two brothers: August "Gus" and Walt Olsen; and one sister, Hazel Olsen.

Velma J. Vondette

SEATTLE -- Velma J. Vondette, 67 of Seattle, WA and formerly of Wagner died Monday, February 14, 2005, at the Seattle Medical Rehabilitation Center in Seattle, WA, after a brief battle with cancer. Velma attained the age of 67 years, two months and 19 days.

A memorial gathering will be held at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday, February 19, 2005.

Velma Jean "Woody" Vondette, daughter of Orville T. and Mary Edna (Dunsmore) Woods, was born November 26, 1937, at Wagner, SD. She Velma attended school in Wagner, She married Anthony T. Efta on December 20, 1954. Three daughters were born to their union. The family moved to Seattle in 1957, where she lived the remainder of her life. Velma was a hardworking, professional waitress and hostess. She later married Kenneth C. Vondette on December 22, 1972. A son was born to their union.

Velma enjoyed bowling, traveling, camping, visiting and reading. One of her favorite sayings was, "Don't worry about ... you'll never see it on a galloping horse!"

Thankful for having shared her life are her daughters: Katheryn Zolnowsky and husband, Richard of Wagner; Cynthia Efta of St. Augustine, FL; and Denise Efta and significant other, Jim Cuka of Wagner; son, Brant Vondette of Seattle; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four brothers: Norman and wife, Joan of Wagner; twin brothers, Verlin "Tab" and wife, Judy of Yankton; Delmer "Pete" of Yankton; and Donald and significant other, Bonnie, of Yankton; six sisters: LaVelle Jiricek and husband Sylvan "Shorty" of Yankton; LaVonne Hastings of Juno Beach, FL; Lois Hyde and husband William "Bud" of Wagner; Shirley Carda and husband, Steven "Pep" of Hobbs, NM; Karen Dvorak and husband, Leonard, of Lake Andes; and Sandra Taggart of Yankton.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents; grandson Jeremy C. Haar; two brothers: Robert and Orville "Honey" Woods; and three sisters: Darlene, who died in infancy; Frances "Frankie" Martin; and Mary Lassen.

We will always love and miss her.
