Neil Wilma Bush

HULETT, Wyo. — Neil Wilma Bush, 91, Hulett, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, at her home.

Survivors include one daughter, Victoria Bush, Hulett; one son, Dean Bush, Hulett; one brother, Roe Storms, Dundee, Ore.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at First Baptist Church in Hulett.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Doug Wood officiating.

Burial will follow at Hulett Cemetery.

Fidler-Roberts Funeral Chapel of Sundance, Wyo., is in charge of arrangements.

Robert W. St. Claire

RAPID CITY — Robert W. St. Claire, 32, Rapid City, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Carrie St. Claire; two children, Jamie St. Claire and Taylor St. Claire, both of Rapid City; two sisters, Deb Meimen and Cindy Vissia, both of Rapid City; one brother, Don St. Claire, Novi, Mich.; and his parents, Ralph and LaVonne St. Claire, Rapid City.

Arrangements are pending with Behrens Funeral Home of Rapid City.

Mary Ellen LaBoucane

VALE — Mary Ellen LaBoucane, 54, Vale, died Sunday, August 5, 2001, at her rural Vale residence.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 12, 2001, at 1 p.m. at the Sturgis Church of Christ, with Pastor Terry Brough officiating. Arrangements are with Kinkade Funeral Chapel.

Mary was born June 1, 1947, at Hot Springs, S.D., to Tim and Johanna (Carr) Marvin. She lived many years in Sturgis, and the past year and a half in Vale.

Her friends and family are all thankful for having shared her life.

Survivors include her daughter, Brandy LaBoucane, Vale; one brother, Tim Marvin, Sturgis; two sisters, Anna Frohman and her husband Dave, Vale, and Ruth Lettau, Sturgis; a special nephew, Clayton Marvin, Vale; and several other nieces and nephews.

Her parents and one brother preceded her in death.

Kris Stephens Kornbaum

PIERRE — Kris Stephens Kornbaum, 46, Pierre, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Kornbaum, Pierre; one daughter, Sara Kornbaum, Pierre; one son, Allen Kornbaum, Redfield; his parents, Harold and Dona Kornbaum, Brookings; two sisters, Julie Charlesworth, Coon Rapids, Minn., and Martha Giegling, Canistota; and one brother, Frank Kornbaum, Little Falls, Minn.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at Isburg-Hofmeister Funeral Chapel in Pierre, with a 7 p.m. prayer service.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Pierre.

Burial will be at a later date.

Herbert R. Martelon

RAPID CITY — Herbert R. Martelon, 92, Rapid City, died Tuesday, August 7, at a Rapid City nursing home.

Herbert was born on December 1, 1908, at Idaho Springs, Colo., to Joseph and Hattie (Ulbrich) Martelon. The family moved to Arvada, Colo., where he graduated from high school. He was active in sports and band, playing the E-flat alto and B-flat soprano saxophone. He then attended Barns Business College and Denver University, where he took business courses.

He went to work for Peter Kiewit Sons Inc. in Denver, doing highway construction, and became a general superintendent with the company. In the late 1940s he continued his work with Peter Kiewit at Ellsworth AFB in South Dakota, constructing runways and taxiways for the B-36 bombers. He continued with the company in highway construction and also supervised the installation of an irrigation system for the Padlock Ranch near Sheridan, Wyo. The ranch was owned by Homer Scott, a Peter Kiewit vice president. Herbert especially enjoyed flying in the corporate Lear jet. He worked 35 years for the Kiewit company, retiring in 1974.

He was married to Evelyn A. Pelle, and a son, Thomas, was born to this union. On September 8, 1950, he married Alwynne E. Waldman at the home of her father, Charlie Waldman, in Sturgis. A daughter, Deborah, was born to this union. Shortly after they were married, the couple purchased a home in Rapid City, where he has lived until entering the nursing home a few weeks ago.

Herbert was a hard worker and always enjoyed helping family and friends. He loved hunting and fishing, especially fishing in the Big Thompson River in Colorado. He was a member and very active in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, a life member of Elks Lodge No. 1187 of Rapid City, the Society of Black Hills Pioneers, Canyon Lake Senior Citizens Center and Minneluzahan Senior Citizens Center.

Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Elke Martelon, Littleton, Colo.; a son-in-law, Dean Lichty, Westbrook, Minn.; three granddaughters, Joan Dunn and her husband Dennis, Denver, Colo., and Catherina and Monica Martelon, both of Westminster, Colo.; one grandson, Daniel Dean Lichty, Minneapolis, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews, including Marty and June Jolley and Clint and Sandi Jolley, all of Rapid City.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alwynne, in 1995; a daughter, Deborah Lichty, in 1985; a son, Thomas Martelon, in 1998; three brothers; and one sister.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, August 10, at the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 11, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. William C. Hibbert and Deacon Virginia L. Bird officiating.

Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, August 13, at the Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home Monday at 9:15 a.m. to proceed to Sturgis.

A memorial has been established to the St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.

Arnold A. 'Bud' Deutscher Sr.

RAPID CITY — Arnold A. "Bud" Deutscher Sr., 79, of Rapid City, met his Lord on Tuesday, August 7, 2001.

Bud was born one of eight children on December 29, 1921, in Redig, S.D., to John and Emma Caroline (Schumacher) Deutscher. He grew up and attended country schools and graduated from high school in Buffalo, S.D. Bud served in the U.S. Army air transport service in the North Pacific during WWII.

Bud returned to South Dakota after his service and was eventually employed as a meteorologist for 28 years at the U.S. Weather Bureau at Rapid City Regional Airport. After his retirement from the weather bureau, he worked in the insurance business, selling crop coverage until last year.

Survivors include three sons, Arnold A. Deutscher Jr. and Martin Deutscher, of Rapid City, and David Deutscher and his wife Pam, of Jamestown, N.D.; a stepdaughter, Janet Kopesky, of Clifton, N.J.; a brother, Reuben Deutscher, of Wall, S.D.; and nine grandchildren, three of whom are married. Bud was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Edwin, Reinhold, Herbert and Richard; and two sisters, Kathyrn and Leah.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday, with a rosary service at 7 p.m., at the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.

A Requiem High Mass will be offered at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, August 10, at the Church of the Immaculate Conception (5th Street at South Street) with Rev. Valentine Young, OFM, as the celebrant.

Interment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, with military honors provided by Rushmore VFW Post 1273 of Rapid City.

Creta Elizabeth Braithwaite

SUNDANCE, Wyo. — Creta E. Braithwaite, 85, Sundance, and formerly of Whitewood, S.D., died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at Crook County Memorial Nursing Home in Sundance.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Ann Crawford, Sundance, and Bonnie Jean Price, Whitewood; one brother, Frank Willson, Whitewood; two sisters, Zeta Helmer, Sundance, and Vera Halberg, Shevlin, Minn.; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, at Carlsen & Aldinger Funeral Home in Spearfish, S.D.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at Whitewood Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Harold Brink officiating.

Virginia Ann Edwards

CASPER, Wyo. — Virginia Ann Edwards, 86, Casper, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper.

Survivors include two daughters, Prudence Schmidt, Glendale, Ariz., and Penny Burley, Douglas; one son, Miles Edwards, Ithaca, N.H.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Inurnment and private family services will be at a later date.

Memorial Chapel of Casper is in charge of arrangements.

Louise Ann Hanlon

HERMOSA — Louise Ann Hanlon, 82, of Hermosa, died Monday, August 6, 2001, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

She is survived by one son, John Hanlon and his wife Susan, of Hermosa; daughter-in-law Marcia Hanlon of Hermosa; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, brother, husband and son Patrick.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 9, 2001, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home, with Fr. Leo McDowell officiating.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 10, at Highland Park Cemetery in Hermosa.

Louise was the best mother-in-law in the world; she will be greatly missed.

Joseph Lawrence Kalenda

WINNER — Joseph Lawrence Kalenda, 71, Winner, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at his home in Winner.

Survivors include his wife, Letha Kalenda, Winner; three daughters, Elaine Klug, Herrick, Gloria Wilson, Mullen, Neb., and Vicky Bingen, Witten; eight grandchildren; his mother, Alice Kalenda, Gregory; two brothers, Alvin Kalenda, Winner, and Robert Kalenda, Colome; and two sisters, Evelyn Slouka, Colome, and Nettie Kalenda, Winner.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, Aug. 8, at United Methodist Church in Winner.

Burial with military honors will be at Colome City Cemetery.

Kotrba Funeral Home of Gregory is in charge of arrangements.

Rodney Wayne LaDeaux

MANDERSON — Rodney Wayne LaDeaux, 19, Manderson, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, in Manderson.

Survivors include his stepfather, Tim Steele, Manderson; his mother, Colleen LaDeaux, Manderson; two sons, Rodney LaDeaux III and Michael LaDeaux, both of Manderson; one daughter, Stevie LaDeaux, Manderson; four brothers, Perry Steele, Josh Steele, Garfield Steele and Eldwin Steele, all of Manderson; and four sisters, Janese Steele, Sheila Steele, Tamara Steele and Willene Kills Enemy, all of Manderson.

A one-night wake will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at Wounded Knee School in Manderson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at the school, with the Rev. Bill Pauly officiating. Mike Little Boy will officiate at traditional services.

Burial will be at St. Agnes Catholic Cemetery in Manderson.

Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge is in charge of arrangements.

Ernest James Porter Sr.

FORT MEADE — Ernest James Porter Sr., 92, Fort Meade, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at Department of Veterans Affairs in Fort Meade.

Survivors include one brother, Clifford Porter, Waldoboro, Maine; two granddaughters; two daughters, Ruth Southworth, New Hampshire, and Shirley Boynton, South China, Maine; three great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several stepdaughters, stepsons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at State Veterans Cemetery in Augusta, Maine.

Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel of Hot Springs is in charge of arrangements.
