Gregory L. Ackerman
CUSTER — Gregory L. Ackerman, 50, Custer, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, at his home.
Survivors include his father, Lyle Ackerman, Colorado City, Colo.; one brother, Kenneth Ackerman, Highland Ranch, Colo.; and one sister, Carol Barker, Newcastle, Wyo.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Delbert F. 'Scotty' Scott
RAPID CITY — Delbert F. "Scotty" Scott, 87, of Rapid City, died at Rapid City Regional Hospital on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001.
Delbert F. Scott was born at Lake Norden, on June 27, 1914, to Delbert and Alida (Bedford) Scott Sr. He graduated from high school at Atkinson, Nebraska. He worked in a theater in Los Angeles prior to being married to Arlene Keeler at Ainsworth, Neb., on January 29, 1941. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII in Africa, Sicily, Italy, and with the Flying Tigers in China from 1941 until 1945. He worked with the Martin Company during the missile construction in western South Dakota, and for the past 40 years has lived in Rapid City and worked in construction as a carpenter until his retirement.
He was a member of the VFW and Carpenters Union.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene, of Rapid City; two sons, Kelly and Phil Scott, both of Rapid City; and one daughter, Pat Moore, of Rapid City. One brother, Donald Scott, of Moscow, Idaho, and five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive.
Graveside services with military honors will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2001, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, with Chaplain Howard Smith officiating.
A free luncheon will follow at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Rapid City VFW, 420 Main St.

Kenneth Lee Franke
ST. ONGE — Kenneth Lee Franke, 64, St. Onge, died Friday, June 29, 2001, at Fort Meade Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Sturgis.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Franke, St. Onge; one daughter, Patty Schmidt, Box Elder; one son, Wayne Franke, Rapid City; and one grandson.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Eugene S. Brink
HAYDEN, Idaho — Eugene S. Brink, 76, Hayden and formerly of Fort Pierre, S.D., died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at Life Care Center of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Brink, Hayden; one son, Michael Brink, Rathdrum, Idaho; two daughters, Becky Brink, Post Falls, Idaho, and Donnis Swain, Athol, Idaho; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, James Brink, Rapid City; and one sister, Lois Manning, Aberdeen, S.D.
Graveside services were held at Spokane Memorial Gardens, Spokane, Wash.
English Funeral Chapel of Coeur d'Alene was in charge of arrangements.
Velma E. Hamaker
NEWCASTLE, Wyo. — Velma E. Hamaker, 82, Newcastle, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at her home.
Survivors include one son, Ray Hamaker, Newcastle; and one sister, Betty Delahunt, Magnolia, Ark.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at Worden Chapel in Newcastle.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at the funeral chapel, with the Rev. Al Sims officiating.
Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Newcastle.
Rose Anna Ericsson
LEMMON — Rose Anna Ericsson, 81, Lemmon, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, N.D.
Survivors include her husband, Gene Ericsson, Lemmon; one son, David Ericsson, Danville, Ind.; two daughters, Vickie Kane, Thunder Hawk, and VeRene Potter, Lemmon; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Joe Rotter, Craig, Colo.; and one sister, Mary Goodmanson, Lemmon.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Aug. 8, at Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon, and for one hour before services Wednesday at Prairie Hills Church of God in Lemmon.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Arlen Swanson officiating. Burial will be at Greenhill Cemetery in Lemmon.
Anita Marie Chamberlain
PINE RIDGE — Anita Marie Chamberlain, 39, Pine Ridge, died Thursday, June 14, 2001, in Denver.
Survivors include one daughter, Alicia Chamberlain, Missoula, Mont.; two brothers, Gary Chamberlain, Rapid City, and Carl Chamberlain, Pine Ridge; and one sister, June Chamberlain, Denver.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Pine Ridge, with the Rev. Ben Tyon officiating.
Burial will be at Holy Cross Episcopal Cemetery in Pine Ridge.

Mathew Lee Standing Elk
PORCUPINE — Mathew Lee Standing Elk, 52, Porcupine, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, in Martin.
Survivors include his mother, Caroline Good Shield, Porcupine; two daughters, Twila Standing Elk and Tillie Standing Elk, both of Porcupine; one sister, Violette Good Crow, Porcupine; and two grandchildren.
A one-night wake will begin at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at Porcupine Day School.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the school, with the Rev. Simon Looking Elk officiating.
Burial will be at Presbyterian Cemetery in Porcupine.

Gretchen E. Serfling Erickson
RAPID CITY — Gretchen E. Erickson, 93, Rapid City, died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
She was born Oct. 2, 1907, in Northville to Earnest and Mabel (Prinsen) Serfling. On April 30, 1927, she married Arno J. Erickson. They lived in eastern South Dakota until 1943, when they moved to Rapid City with their five children.
She is survived by one son, Arno H. Erickson and his wife, Karen, Elkhart, Ind.; two daughters, Darlene Harris, Beach Park, Ill., and Mabel "Jean" O'Marah, Ogdensberg, N.Y.; one son-in-law, Edward T. "Chris" Christiansen, Rapid City; 19 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
Gretchen was preceded in death by her husband, Arno; two daughters, Marvel "Murf" Calie and Charlotte "Chod" Christiansen; her parents; and three brothers, Odley Serfling, Claire Serfling and Dale Serfling.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, at Behrens Funeral Home Chapel, and for one hour before services.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, at Behrens Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Arthur Johns officiating.
Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
Gretchen will forever be loved and missed by all her family and friends.
Joyce V. Derflinger
HERMOSA — Joyce V. Derflinger, 69, Hermosa, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, at Fall River Hospital in Hot Springs.
Survivors include her mother, Virginia Hullinger; two sons, Casey Derflinger, Hot Springs, and Shane Derflinger, Loveland, Colo.; one daughter, Desiree Swett, Evansville, Wyo.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, at Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel in Hot Springs.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, at Congregational Church in Hermosa, with the Rev. Barb Gammeter officiating.
Burial will follow at Hermosa Cemetery.
Eunice Korpi
PIERRE — Eunice Korpi, 95, Pierre, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Maryhouse Nursing Center in Pierre.
Survivors include two nieces, Shirley Iverson, Pierre, and Doris Baddeley, Deltona, Fla.; and two nephews, Wayne Tillman, Pierre, and Ron Stenstrom, Tucson, Ariz.
Visitation will be for an hour before services Monday, Aug. 6, at Lutheran Memorial Church in Pierre.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church.
Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Pierre.

Lois E. McGowan
HOT SPRINGS — Lois E. McGowan, 68, passed away Aug. 1, 2001, at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City.
Visitation will be Saturday, Aug. 4, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., at Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel in Hot Springs.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, at Rooks-McColley Chapel in Hot Springs, with the Rev. Peter Dahlberg officiating.
She was born July 22, 1933, to Harold and Maude Johnson in Rapid City. She was raised in Rapid City and graduated there in 1951. She married James William McGowan in 1961 and moved to Montana until 1969; they then moved to Hot Springs, where they managed the Country Club until 1974. She married Paul Hogan in 1976 and worked various jobs until 1994 in Hot Springs.
She is survived by three children, Jeffery McGowan and his wife, Kathy, of Hot Springs, Koni Hicks of Hot Springs and Tami Moen and her husband, Brian, of Great Falls, Mont.; two stepsons, Edward Hogan of Grand Junction, Colo., and Joseph Hogan of Rapid City; four brothers, Robert Johnson of Omaha, Neb., James and Nancy Johnson of Palm Springs, Calif., Gordon and Carol Johnson of Hanford, Calif., and Richard Johnson of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; 17 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and special friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
She will be sorely missed.
