LUVERNE, Minn. — Helen L. Buchholz, 84, Luverne, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Luverne Community Hospital.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Buchholz, Hill City, S.D., and Robert Buchholz, Luverne; two daughters, Judy Hensley and Nancy Waddington, both of Luverne; three sisters, Evelyn Bennett, Edgemont, S.D., Elvina Eckert, Avon, and Katie Petrick, Sioux City, Neb.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 30, at Rooks-Isburg Chapel in Custer, S.D., with the Rev. Bill Savery officiating. Burial will follow at Custer Cemetery.

Erin Engle

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Erin Engle, 28, Charleston and formerly of Upton, Wyo., died Sunday, July 22, 2001, in the Italian Alps near Trento, Italy, as the result of a BASE jumping accident.

Survivors include her parents, Linden and Janis Engle, Upton; one sister, Tamlin Tee Engle, Phoenix; her maternal grandmother, Patricia Stordahl, Upton; and her stepfather, Richard Stordahl, Upton.

A rosary service will be at 7 p.m. Monday, July 30, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Upton.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, at Upton Community Center, with the Rev. Bruce Clapham officiating.

Burial will follow at Moore Hill Cemetery in Hulett, Wyo.

Fidler Funeral Chapel of Sundance, Wyo., is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph E. Leichtnam

RAPID CITY — Joseph E. Leichtnam, 87, of Rapid City, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

He was born December 11, 1913, north of Presho on the family homestead, to John and Rose (Schneeberger) Leichtnam. He grew up on the prairie 12 miles north of Presho, where he attended country schools and Presho public school.

As a young man, Joe served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in the Black Hills from 1935 to 1937. He was married to Bernice Severson on July 15, 1942, in Presho. Following their marriage, the couple lived in the Presho area where Joe farmed. The family moved to Rapid City in 1964, and Joe continued to farm actively, commuting from Rapid City to the farm near Presho, until 1975.

Joe will be remembered as a successful farmer, a sincere Christian and a dedicated family man.

His children and grandchildren were the center of his life, as well as his wife of 59 years.

Thankful for having shared his life are his wife, Bernice, of Rapid City; his two daughters, Rebecca L. Harris and husband, Richard, of Rapid City, and C. June Faust and husband, Richard, of Fremont, Neb.; his son, James Leichtnam and wife, Janet, of Parker, Colo.; his two sisters, Bertha Krier, Presho, S.D., and Marie Hellman and husband, Bob, of San Francisco, Calif.; his two brothers, Frank Leichtnam and wife, Bernice, and Louis Leichtnam, all of Presho; and four grandchildren, Nicholas, Leah, Noah and Hannah Harris, all of Rapid City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Manuel and Charles, an infant sister, Sophia, and an infant son, Joseph Claire.

Visitation will be from 2 until 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 29, at the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home in Rapid City, with a Christian wake service at 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9 a.m. Monday, July 30, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Rapid City, with Rev. Michel Mulloy officiating.

Interment will be at 3 p.m. CST on Monday at the Holy Angels Catholic Cemetery in Presho.

Shirley Marie Adams

BLUCKSBURG ESTATES — Shirley Marie Adams, 59, Blucksburg Estates near Sturgis, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at her home.

Survivors include her husband, James Adams, Blucksburg

Estates; four sons, James Adams, Whitewood, Chuck Adams and Joe Adams, both of Sturgis, and Allen Adams, Pierre; two daughters, Denise O'Hara and Pam Bartlett, both of Belle Fourche; 13 grandchildren; one brother, Charles Kaul, Dodge City, Kan.; and three sisters, Arlene King and Carol Jean Goodman, both of Sioux Falls, and Patricia Oban, Sturgis.

A rosary and Christian wake service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 29, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 30, at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Sturgis, with the Rev. Gary Oreshoski officiating.

Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Roger Gnerer

HAMMOND, Mont. — Roger Gnerer, 64, Hammond, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Rapid City Regional Hospital after a farming accident.

A rosary service will be at 6 p.m. Sunday, July 29, at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Broadus, Mont.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 30, at St. David's Catholic Church in Broadus.

Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery in Broadus.

Esther Liebig McCormick

INMAN, S.C. - Esther Liebig McCormick, 58, of Inman, S.C., died on Sunday, July 8, 2001, at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville, S.C. Mrs. McCormick bravely battled non-Hodgkin's lymphoma for five years, but her health failed rapidly in the past six months.

Esther was born and grew up in Rapid City, S.D., where she was a Girl Scout, a member of Theta Roe, and a member of the First Congregational Church. She was an employee for over 12 years at Springs Industries, Lyman, S.C.

Surviving are her husband of 41 years, Gordon "Don" McCormick of the home; two daughters, Christine M. Suddeth of Lyman, S.C., and Lorie M. Turner of Duncan, S.D.; a son, Timothy R.

McCormick of Spartanburg, S.C.; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Ann Liebig Olson of Waverly, Iowa, and Geraldine Liebig Moore of New Bern, N.C. Esther was predeceased by her parents, Perry B. and Eunice Belle Hull Liebig; brothers, Daryl R. Liebig and P. James Liebig; sisters, Margaret Lucille Liebig and Arlene Jewel Liebig Bach.

A memorial service was held July 11, 2001, at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Greer, S.C., at the mausoleum where Esther's cremains are interred, officiated by Pastor Larry Padgett of Burnsview Baptist Church of Greer, S.C.

At the end of the service, Pastor Padgett sang "Amazing Grace," Esther's favorite hymn, and the family played "There You'll Be" by Faith Hill.

Flowers were omitted, with memorials to the Esther

RAPID CITY - Gerald Larson, 86, Rapid City, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at a local assisted-living establishment.

Survivors include one son, Russel Larson, Sturgis; and one brother, Merlyn Larson, Sidney, Mont.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Duane Duley officiating.

Burial will be at Sidney, Mont.

Marvin 'Bush' Lockhart

HOT SPRINGS - Marvin "Bush" Lockhart, 87, Hot Springs, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Castle Manor Nursing Home in Hot Springs.

Survivors include his wife, Blanche Lockhart, Hot Springs.

Arrangements are pending with Rooks-McColley's Funeral Chapel of Hot Springs.

Joseph E. Leichtnam

RAPID CITY - Joseph E. Leichtnam, 87, Rapid City, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Leichtnam, Rapid City; one son, James Leichtnam, Denver; two daughters, Carol June Faust, Fremont, Neb., and Rebecca June Harris, Rapid City; two brothers, Frank Leichtnam and Louis Leichtnam, both of Presho; and two sisters, Bertha Krier, Presho, and Marie Hellman, San Francisco.

Wayne D. Iverson

STURGIS - Wayne D. Iverson, 81, Sturgis, died Tuesday,

July 24, 2001, at Sturgis Community Health Care Center.

Visitation will be noon until 9 p.m. on Sunday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, and 8 a.m. to service time on Monday.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 30, at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, with Pastor Lloyd Lemke officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Wayne was born May 10, 1920, in Clay County, South Dakota, to Arthur and Mae (Nelson) Iverson. He attended school at Norway School in Clay County. Wayne helped his father on the farm and also worked in Vermillion, S.D., for Anderson Produce, driving grain and livestock trucks.

On May 16, 1942, Wayne entered the U.S. Army. He was in the medical field, getting his training at Fitzsimmons General Hospital in Denver. He served in New Guinea and the Philippines and was honorably discharged on January 8, 1946.

Wayne married Mathilda Jepsen at Gayville, S.D., on August 15, 1946. They farmed at Meekling until 1951. They moved to Vermillion, where Wayne worked for Thompson Lumber Company until 1960, when they moved to Sturgis. Wayne worked at the Fort Meade VA Medical Center as a nursing assistant until May 23, 1985, when he retired.

He was a member of the VFW, the Sturgis Senior Citizens Center, and Trinity Lutheran Church (WELS) in Sturgis. He volunteered for four years in the Civil Air Patrol with the unit in Vermillion. He was also a private pilot.

His hobby was HO trains. Wayne also enjoyed boating, chariot racing and flying.

Survivors include his wife, Mathilda Iverson, Sturgis; two daughters, Pamela Iverson, Chicago, Ill., and Michelle Rivera, Madison, Wis.; one son and his wife, Douglas and Joyce Iverson, Sturgis; two sisters, Lois Ellis, Mission Viejo, Calif., and Audrey Schmitt, Cannon Falls, Minn.; one brother, J.N. Iverson, Vermillion, S.D.; four granddaughters, Day Kilness, Amanda Iverson, Daneen Iverson and Chaunee Evans; and four grandsons, Jason Iverson, Dustin Evans, Dylan Evans and Joshua Rivera.

His parents; one brother, Milo; and one granddaughter, Shana Kilness, preceded him in death.

A memorial has been established to the Trinity Lutheran Church (WELS).

Nike Sentovich

LEAD - Mass of Christian Burial for Nike Sentovich, 97, of Lead, will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lead. The Rev. William Zandri will officiate. Christian wake and rosary service will be on Monday evening at 7 p.m. at St. Pat's. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery of Lead. A memorial has been established in her memory. Nike died on Monday, July 23, 2001, at Kirkwood Manor in Lead. She was born February 26, 1904, in Yugoslavia to Anton and Mary (Jakobusic) Miloslavic. On February 14, 1926, she married Mike Sentovich in Bosanka, Yugoslavia. They came to the United States and Lead on August 6, 1926. They owned and operated a grocery business until 1952. Nike loved to play cards, bowl, and golf. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, St. Pat's Altar Society, Degree of Honor Lodge, and the Twin Cities Senior Citizens. Survivors include her four sons, John Sentovich and his wife, Kay, of Cordova, Tenn., Tony Sentovich and his wife, Phyllis, of Lead, Chris Sentovich and his wife, Delores, of Boulder, Colo., and Mike Sentovich and his wife, Barbara, of Los Alametos, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, who all called her "Baba" and remember the great meals that Baba would make for them when they visited; and numerous nieces and nephews. Nike will also be remembered for her great wit and attitude towards life. She lived each day to the fullest and was playing cribbage with her sons and the cribbage club in Lead past her 97th birthday. Nike was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1964; three brothers; five sisters; and a granddaughter, Lora Sentovich Beck. Arrangements are under the direction of the Chaput Memorial Chapel in Lead.
