KEYSTONE — Erlys M. Wenzlick, 71, Keystone, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Survivors include five sons, Larry Wenzlick, Keystone, Richard Wenzlick and Gary Wenzlick, both of Johnson Creek, Wis., James Wenzlick, Hermosa, and Dale Wenzlick, Brunswick, Maine; two daughters, Vicki Wenzlick, Denton, Texas, and Kathleen Fisher, Burlington, N.J.; one brother, Gene Shirk, St. Louis, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home of Rapid City.
Heather J. Holt
RAPID CITY — Heather J. Holt, 28, Rapid City, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, Matthew Holt, Rapid City; one daughter, Jasmin Holt, Rapid City; her parents, Peg Dalzell, San Diego, and Robert and Lynda Grass, Rapid City; two brothers, Robert Grass, Cherry Point, N.C., and Gunnar Grass, Rapid City; and one sister, Lyndsay Grass, Rapid City.
Arrangements are pending with Kirk Funeral Home of Rapid City.
Ramona Ellen Marple
DEADWOOD — Ramona Ellen Marple, 77, Deadwood, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at her home.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Yates, Sturgis, and Robert Marple Jr., Spearfish; one daughter, Ella Everhard, Lead; one sister, Thelma McGinnis, Sturgis; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending with Fidler Funeral Chapel of Spearfish and Lead.
Ralph Sam Eslinger
BLACK HAWK - Ralph Sam Eslinger, 76, Black Hawk, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at Fort Meade Veterans Affairs Hospital in Sturgis.
Survivors include two sons, Bill Comer and Bud Comer, both of Omaha, Neb.; two brothers, Jack Eslinger, Newcastle, Wyo., and David Eslinger, Seattle; and one sister, Viola Morris, Sturgis.
He served in the U.S. Navy.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Behrens Mortuary in Rapid City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 2, at the mortuary, with the Rev. Charlie Hunt officiating.
Burial will follow at Pine Lawn Memorial Park.
Isaac 'Ike' Van Liere
COLTON - Isaac "Ike" Van Liere, 95, of Colton, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at the United Retirement Center in Brookings.
Ike was born June 2, 1906, at Perkins, Iowa. In 1915, he moved with his family to a farm near Colton, where he farmed and was a cattle feeder. He also owned and operated Van's Implement Company in Colton.
He was a member of the Christian Reformed Church, and served on the Colton City Council for 25 years, and in 1987 was honored for his civic contributions.
Ike married Gertrude Van Duyn March 10, 1932, at Colton.
Survivors include his wife Gertrude, United Retirement Center, Brookings; three sons and their wives, Donald and VerDonna Van Liere, Rapid City, Raymond and Marilyn Van Liere, Clear Lake, and Merle and Bette Van Liere, Sioux Falls; a daughter and her husband, Evelyn and James Edwards, Brookings; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. Monday, March 4, 2002, at the Christian Reformed Church, Colton. Burial will be in the Colton Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 3 with the family present from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Colton.
James E. Borchert
RAPID CITY - James E. Borchert, 75, Rapid City, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Charlene Borchert, Rapid City; one son, Stephan Borchert, Rapid City; one daughter, Michaela Hoss, Denver; and five grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home of Rapid City.
Alice Dalzell
BELLE FOURCHE - Alice Dalzell, 95, Belle Fourche, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at Belle Fourche Health Care Center.
Survivors include three nieces, Rosalie Simons, Sturgis, Lila Sorenson, Deadwood, and Ellen Brady, Denver; one nephew, Clifford Fenner, Whit-tier, Calif.; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, with the Rev. Harold Delbridge officiating.
Inurnment will be at a later date at Elm Springs Cemetery.
Nathan Vaughn Dreamer
OGLALA - Nathan Vaughn Dreamer, 36, Oglala, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Survivors include one daughter, Sharee Dreamer, Rapid City; one son, Eric Corbine Jr., Rapid City; eight brothers, Al Dreamer Jr., Gabe Dreamer and Harley Dreamer, all of Oglala, George Dreamer, Pine Ridge, Todd Dreamer and Pete Switzer, both of Rapid City, Orrin Wing, Cortez, Colo., and Vincent "Chuck" Dreamer, Brockton, Mont.; six sisters, Rhonda Dreamer, Rochelle Dreamer and Rose Dreamer, all of Oglala, Roxie Whirl Wind Horse, Pine Ridge, Rachel Dreamer, Washington, D.C., and Troy Lynn Yellow Wood, Denver; his father, Al Dreamer Sr., Oglala; his stepmother, Delores Dreamer, Oglala; and his mother, Norma Walks Out, Oglala.
A two-night wake began Thursday, Feb. 28, at Brother Rene Hall in Oglala. The second night will begin at 4 p.m. today at Loneman School gym in Oglala.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at the school gym, with the Rev. Asa Wilson, the Rev. Tommy Carpenter and the Rev. Clarence Rowland officiating.
Burial will be at Makasan Presbyterian Cemetery in Oglala.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge is in charge of arrangements.
Edward O. Zeien
RAPID CITY - Edward O. Zeien, 89, of Rapid City, died Wednesday, February 27, 2002, at a local nursing home.
He was born Aug. 29, 1912, at Fessenden, N.D., to Matt and Anna (Damann) Zeien. He attended country school there through 8th grade. He attended the Lutheran College in Eureka, S.D., for two years, then one year at Concordia College, completing his last year with correspondence classes through Penn State and Salt Lake City, Utah, and then received his degree from Concordia College. He came to Rapid City in 1939 from Fessenden. He married Hazel Stone on May 18, 1941, at Fessenden. He worked as a Meteorologist for the U.S. Weather Bureau for 36 years and retired in 1975.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the American Meteorological Society, the Moose Lodge, Pioneer Bank Elite Club and the Minneluzahan Senior Center. He enjoyed playing tennis and fishing. He was a former coin collector, enjoyed traveling and visited almost all of the National Parks in the Western USA.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Zeien of Rapid City; one sister, Helen Donelan of Rapid City; and one brother, Norman Zeien of Fessenden, N.D.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lt. Col. Henry, John and William Zeien; and two sisters, Mary Proefrock and Doris Kettelson.
Memorials are to the Trinity Lutheran Church Stained Glass Window Fund and the Parkinson's Support Group.
Visitation will be at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City on Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and then at the church on Saturday for one hour before services.
Services are planned for Saturday, March 2, 2002, at 10 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rapid City, with Rev. Donald Brendtro and Rev. Al Jacobson officiating. Burial will follow on Monday at Hillside Cemetery in Fessenden, North Dakota, at 3 p.m., with the family and friends gathering at Nelson Funeral Home there at 2 p.m. Monday.
Dora Fay Glodt
RAPID CITY - Dora Fay Glodt, 68, Rapid City, died at the Rapid City Regional Hospital Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, following a courageous battle with cancer. Her family and loved ones were at her side.
She was born April 28, 1933, at Gettysburg, S.D., the daughter of Wayne B. and Velda (Thompson) Axsom. She grew up and attended schools at Gettysburg. Dora Fay married Lawrence Glodt on Aug. 14, 1948, at Pierre, S.D. The couple resided at Gettysburg following their marriage. They moved to McLaughlin in 1973 and in April of 2000 they moved to Rapid City to be closer to their family. She was a past member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church at McLaughlin, a longtime member of the VFW Auxiliary and a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was presently a member of the Fountain Springs Community Church in Rapid City.
Survivors include her husband, Lawrence Glodt, Rapid City; two sons, Larry Glodt, Rapid City, and John "Jack" Glodt and his wife Kim, Rapid City; a daughter, Velma Klapkin and her husband Aaron, Rapid City; two brothers, Jack Axsom and his wife Linda, Gettysburg, S.D., and Jim Axsom and his wife Jeanita, Omaha, Neb.; six grandchildren, Bobbi Adrian, Tammi Bennett, Jason Glodt and Jarret Glodt, all of Rapid City, and Sam Glodt and Audrey Glodt, New Mexico; three great-grandchildren; and her close friends who were so important to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday at the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 4, at the Fountain Springs Community Church, with Rev. Wesley Smith officiating.
Inurnment will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery.
A memorial has been established.
Maybelle R. Ashland
RAPID CITY - Maybelle Ashland, 81, of Rapid City, died at Rapid City Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness.
She was born August 5, 1920, at Sioux Falls, and was preceded in death by her father and mother, Harry Halverson and Irene (Brewer) Halverson of Mitchell. She was a member of Job's Daughters, and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1940. She attended Dakota Wesleyan University at Mitchell and University of South Dakota. She was employed at State Farm Insurance Company General Offices in Bloomington, Illinois, and at the offices of E.I. DuPont Company during World War II at Hanford, Washington. She was married to Paul Ashland on November 7, 1945, at The Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. She and her husband lived in Chicago, and after moving back to South Dakota she co-owned and managed the Morefield General Store north of Sioux Falls. She and her husband moved to Rapid City in 1949, where she was employed by Western Mutual Insurance Company, United Buckingham Transportation company, what is now U.S. Bank of Rapid City, and at Civil Engineering, Ellsworth Air Force Base.
In addition to being a homemaker she was at one time a member of the Mayor's Committee on Human Relations. She also was active on Independent Brokers Exchange and Black Hills Board of Realtors, being one of the first female brokers. She was a long time member of United Methodist Church, and is listed in International Who's Who of Professionals. She was co-owner and manager of AA Realty and Aladdin of the Black Hills for many years. This involved real estate and insurance and the collecting and sale of rocks, minerals and artifacts. For several years she was a member of Black Hills Treasure Club. Her hobbies included music box collection, collecting minerals, gems and fossils, cooking and raising flowers. After the flood of 1972 she started the Black Hills Flea Market and co-owned and managed it for many years along with the Iron Kettle Snack Shop. She was an Auxiliary member of Disabled American Veterans and Fraternal Order of Eagles. She loved her family and considered them very special.
She is survived by her husband, Paul, of Rapid City; daughter, Deborah Cooley, Arlington, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce Ashland and Polly Ashland, Rapid City; grandchildren, JoAnn Cooley and Monica Cooley of Arlington, Texas, Kyle Ashland, Lucas Ashland and Laura Ashland, all of Rapid City; and great-grandson, John Cooley and great-granddaughter, Hannah Holz.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2002, at Behrens Mortuary, with the family present.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2002, at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Doug Diehl officiating.
Interment will be at Black Hills National Cemetery.
A memorial has been established to the Home Health Care and Hospice Department at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Myrtle 'Myrt' Loughlin
BELLE FOURCHE - Myrtle "Myrt" Loughlin, 88, Belle Fourche, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, at Belle Fourche Health Care Center.
Survivors include two sons, Jack Loughlin, Bison, and Brett Loughlin, Belle Fourche; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be for one hour before services, which will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at American Lutheran Church in Bison.
Burial will follow at Bison Cemetery.
Funeral Home of the Northern Hills is in charge of arrangements.
Phyllis G. Bayne
NEWCASTLE, Wyo. - Phyllis G. Bayne, 86, Newcastle, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, at Weston County Health Services in Newcastle.
Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Diedtrich, Newcastle; two sons, Clyde Bayne, Newcastle, and Gary Bayne, Lusk, Wyo.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Two husbands, Clyde O. Bayne Sr. and Roland Rogers, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Worden Chapel in Newcastle, and from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday, March 2, at United Methodist Church in Newcastle.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Robert Firebaugh and the Rev. Trish Underberg officiating.
Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Newcastle.
Memorials may be made to Michaels' Senior Center or Weston Manor.
