Ambrose Verdel McBride

FORT THOMPSON - Ambrose Verdel McBride, 69, Fort Thompson, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at Mid Dakota Hospital in Chamberlain.

Survivors include his wife, Aleta McBride, Fort Thompson; four sons, Scott McBride,

St. Paul, Minn., Farrel McBride, Fort Thompson, Charles Bull Ghost, Minneapolis, and Lucas McBride, McLaughlin; two daughters, Dana McBride, Fort Thompson, and Julie McBride, Bismarck; two sisters, Roberta Harrison and Josephine Slow, both of Fort Thompson; and 12 grandchildren.

He served in the U.S. Army from Dec. 17, 1951, to Oct. 12, 1954.

A wake service will be at 8 p.m. today at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fort Thompson.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fort Thompson, with the Rev. Jim Walters and the Rev. Stephen Huffstetter officiating.

Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Fort Thompson.

Floyd Marchant

PLACENTIA, Calif. - Floyd Marchant, 93, Placentia and formerly of Spearfish, S.D., died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, in Anaheim, Calif.

Survivors include two sons, Harold Marchant, Walnut Creek, Calif., and James Marchant, Placentia; five granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.

His wife, Helen Wescott Marchant, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at Fidler Funeral Chapel in Spearfish.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 1, at Spearfish United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kip Roozen officiating.

Burial will be at Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche, S.D.

Dorothy M. Onberg

HEMET, Calif. - Dorothy M. Onberg, 91, Hemet and formerly of Rapid City, S.D., died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at Hemet Valley Health Care Center.

Survivors include one daughter, Virginia Witte, Winlock, Wash., and two grandchildren.

Her husband, Eric A. Onberg, preceded her in death.

Private services were held Thursday, Feb. 14, at McWane Family Funeral Home in Hemet.

Beverly Ann Cartner

DEADWOOD - Beverly Ann Cartner, 47, Deadwood, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at her home.

Survivors include her husband, David Cartner, Deadwood; one daughter, Tanya Lancaster, Tea; two grandchildren; her mother, Reba Terry, Deadwood; and a sister, Joan Sellars, San Pablo, Calif.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at Chaput Memorial Chapel in Lead, with the Rev. Greg Kroger officiating.

Inurnment will be at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

A memorial has been established for Hospice.

Forrest Dean Edgar

STURGIS - Forrest Dean Edgar, 77, Sturgis, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at his home.

Survivors include one son, Sam Edgar, Sturgis; two daughters, Coleen King, Burke, Va., and Mary Jo Sedlacek, Hutchinson, Kan.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; seven sisters; and four brothers.

Graveside rites will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at Black Hills National Cemetery, with the Rev. Gordon Goldhammer officiating.

Friends may meet at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis before leaving for the cemetery.

Dorothy M. Thomas

RAPID CITY - Dorothy M. Thomas, 85, Rapid City, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at a local nursing home.

Survivors include her husband, Verdette Thomas, Rapid City; one daughter, Janis Thomas, Casper, Wyo.; and one sister, Ruth Hinesh, Pierre.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at South Maple United Methodist Church in Rapid City.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Tom Haggar officiating.

Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Behrens Mortuary of Rapid City is in charge of arrangements.

Joyce LaVonne Smith

VIVIAN - Joyce LaVonne Smith, 67, Vivian, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at Maryhouse Sub-Acute Care Center in Pierre.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Smith, Vivian; three daughters, Sateera Thompsen, Sheridan, Wyo., Stephanie Flood, Somers, N.Y., and Nannette Junk, Houston, Texas; one son, Matthew Smith, Vivian; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, James Hulce, Phoenix, and Doug Hulce, Logan, N.M.; and two sisters, Mary Praetorius, Richland, Wash., and Evelyn Erikson, Rapid City.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Isburg-Hofmeister Funeral Chapel in Presho.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Presho United Methodist Church.

Burial will be at Vivian Cemetery.

Agatha Bad Cob-Tall Mandan

WANBLEE - Agatha Bad Cob-Tall Mandan, 72, Wanblee, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, in Wanblee.

Survivors include three brothers, Sylvester Bad Cob and Reed Bad Cob, both of Wanblee, and Gayle Ashley, Sioux Falls; four sisters, Rena Standing Bear, Betty Red Bird and Gertrude Yankton, all of Wanblee, and Sarah Standing Bear, Kadoka; and many grandchildren.

A two-night wake will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at the Wanblee CAP Center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. CST Saturday, March 2, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Corn Creek, with the Rev. Daniel Makes Good and the Rev. John Spruhan officiating.

Burial will be at Corn Creek Community Cemetery.

Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge is in charge of arrangements.

George 'Bud' Kiplinger

BELLE FOURCHE - George "Bud" Kiplinger, 91, Belle Fourche, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at Lookout Memorial Hospital in Spearfish.

Survivors include one son, George Kiplinger, rural Belle Fourche; three granddaughters; eight great-grandchildren; and one brother, Robert Kiplinger, Belle Fourche.

His wife, Doris Kiplinger, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche, and for one hour before services Wednesday at St. James Lutheran Church in Belle Fourche.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Hans Sacrison officiating.

Burial will be at Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche.

Joseph L. Roache

PALM BAY, Fla. — Joseph L. \Joe\ Roache, 76, Palm Bay, died at his Florida residence Friday, Feb. 22, 2002.

He was born March 11, 1925, at Woonsocket, S.D. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served during World War II and the Korean conflict. He

retired from the Navy in 1964 and was then recalled during the Vietnam conflict. He then retired in 1972. Following military service, he served for a time as a correctional officer in the state of Washington. He moved to South Dakota and to Rapid City in 1974 and was employed for a time with the Black Hills Gasification Plant. Joe married Carolyn Thorson on March 2, 1978, in Rapid City. They moved to Florida in 1984 and have resided in Palm Bay since 1985.

He served in the U.S. Navy for a period of 30 years as a Cryptology Technician. He was a member of the Naval Cryptologic Veterans Association, a life member of the DAV and the VFW and was active in the Palm Bay DAV as an Adjutant and Jr. Vice Commander. He was a 27-year member of Friends of Bill W.

Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Carolyn Roache, Palm Bay; daughters, Marijo Gough and her husband Joe, Carmel, Calif., and Patricia Kronbeck, Camino Island, Wash.; a son, David Roache and his wife Rachelle, Snohomish, Wash.; a stepdaughter, Diane Rensch and her husband Pat, Rapid City; stepsons, Boyd Thorson, Philip, S.D., and Roger Thorson and his wife Callys, Champaign, Ill.; sisters, Rita Kutil, Huron, S.D., and Jeanne Cluthe, Mitchell, S.D.; four grandchildren; and six stepgrandchildren. Joseph will be missed by his special friends, four miniature dachshunds.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at the Church of St. Therese, the Little Flower, with Rev. Dale Kutil as the celebrant.

A memorial has been established to the Humane Society of South Brevard, 5100 West Eau Gallie Boulevard, Melbourne, FL 32934.

Inurnment will be at a later date at the Black Hills National Cemetery.

John F. Wagner Sr.

RAPID CITY — John F. Wagner Sr., 86, Rapid City, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at a Rapid City nursing home.

Survivors include one son, John F. Wagner Jr., Rapid City; one daughter, Kathleen Meyer, Torrance, Calif.; one sister, Helene Freeland, Rapid City; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at Osheim-Catron Funeral Home, with a 7 p.m. Christian Wake Service at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at the church, with the Rev. Michael Woster as celebrant.

Interment will be at Pine Lawn Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for St. Thomas More and St. Elizabeth Seton schools.

Donald F. Herman

RAPID CITY — Donald F. Herman, 70, Rapid City, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at a Rapid City nursing home.

Survivors include five sons, Tom Herman, Denver, Gary Herman and Jerry Herman, Kansas City, Mo., Greg Herman and Dan Herman, both of Rapid City; two brothers, David Herman, Missouri

Valley, Iowa, and Robert Herman, Pisgah, Iowa; and a sister, Jane Mether, Logan, Iowa.

Services are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.
