Brandi Dawn Gullickson

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho - Brandi Dawn Gullickson, 24, Idaho Falls and formerly of South Dakota, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, in Island Park as a result of an auto accident.

Survivors include her parents, Duane and Roylene Gullickson, Billings, Mont., and three brothers, Jon Gullickson, Nic Gullickson and Ron Gullickson, all of Billings.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, S.D.

Burial will follow at St. Onge, S.D., Cemetery.

Betty Lou Plummer Shackleford

SUN CITY, Calif. - Betty Lou Plummer Shackleford, 77, Sun City and formerly of South Dakota, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at her home.

Survivors include her husband, Wardell Shackleford, Sun City; one daughter, Betty Jo Wood, Riverside, Calif.; one son, Paul Shackleford, Arkansas; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Phyllis and Shirley; and one brother, Don.

Services were held at Faith Lutheran Church in Sun City.

Inurnment was private.

Arlington Mortuary of Riverside was in charge of arrangements.

Janet K. Joyce

WALL - Janet K. Joyce, age 80, of Wall, died Wednesday, February 20, 2002, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, February 21, 2002, at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Wall, and one hour preceding the services at the church.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, February 22, 2002, at the United Methodist Church in Wall, with Pastor Jim Cissell officiating.

Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. A memorial is established.

Janet K. Hart was born June 7, 1921, at Shawnee, Oklahoma, the daughter of U. Fred and Maggie (Hutchins) Hart.

She grew up in the Shawnee area, where she graduated from high school in 1938.

As a young lady, she worked for Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator, later transferring with Bell Telephone to Oakland, California.

She was united in marriage to Deane Joyce on January 15, 1949, at Carmel, California.

In 1949, they moved to Wall, where they owned and operated Clean Rite Cleaners until 1962. They have continued to make their home in Wall.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Wall and a member of the Carroll McDonald American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 246 of Wall. She enjoyed bowling and playing bridge, being a member of a local bridge club.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Deane Joyce of Wall; one son, Greg Joyce and his wife, Margaret, of Thorton, Colorado; a daughter, Susan Joyce of Kadoka; one brother, James Hart of Shawnee, Oklahoma; four sisters, Velma Coffman and Shirley Slaten, both of Shawnee, Oklahoma,

Margorie Coffin of Toledo, Ohio, and Barbara Vickers of Odessa, Texas; and a sister-in-law, Jane Hart of Patterson, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters.

Margaret Pearl Bonebrake

RAPID CITY - Margaret Pearl Bonebrake passed away Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at the Clarkson-Mountain View Guest Home in Rapid City with her daughters at her side.

She was born Sept. 29, 1913, at Erwin, S.D., the daughter of Andrew and Kate (Neu) Jensen. Margaret (Tud) Jensen married Charlie Lloyd Bonebrake Nov. 13, 1933. They farmed at Bryant, S.D., and moved to Rapid City in 1956. They were members of Calvary Lutheran Church. Margaret welcomed everyone into her house with open arms and a smile on her face. She loved her homemaking and entertaining friends and relatives. She was known for her love of life and friends.

Survivors include her son, Lloyd "Duke" and Marilyn Bonebrake, Huron, S.D.; a daughter, Kay and Gene Lidgett, Hill City, S.D.; granddaughters, Debbie Spencer, Council Bluffs, Iowa, Diane and David Fuhrman, Huron, S.D., Rhonda and Tim Fisher, Hill City, S.D., Sherry Lidgett and Jeff O'Connell, Rapid City, S.D.; grandson, Lyle and Cindy Bonebrake, Minneapolis, Minn.; great-grandchildren, Amber and Dan Matt, Rapid City, Michael and Jessica Fisher, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Petty Officer Carrie Fisher in the U.S. Navy and Maili Ortega, San Diego, Calif., Jason, Tommy and Brent Spencer, Council Bluffs, Iowa, Andy and Lori Ann Fuhrman, Pierre, S.D., Brian Fuhrman and Racheal Geiyer, Huron, S.D.; great-great-grandchildren, Kalab, Haylee, Koy and Lindsie Spencer and Abbie, Alexis and Wesley Bonebrake.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

A Celebration of Life will take place at Calvary Lutheran Church at 10 a.m. Friday, February 22, 2002, with Rev. Dwight Stensgaard and Rev. Tanya Rist officiating.

Burial will be at the Mountain View Cemetery. A memorial has been established.

Services are under the direction of the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.

Ashlyn Elise Booth

TIMBER LAKE - Ashlyn Elise Booth, 5, Timber Lake, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at IHS Hospital in Eagle Butte.

Survivors include her parents, Gerald and Lavon Booth, Timber Lake; one brother, Jace Booth, Timber Lake; maternal grandparents, Dave and Sara Ganje, Eagle Butte; paternal grandmother, Willetta Dolphus, Eagle Butte; and paternal great-grandmothers Bea Both of Mobridge and Marge Dolphus of Eagle Butte.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. MDT Friday, Feb. 22, with a 7 p.m. Scriptural wake service, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Timber Lake and for one hour before services Saturday, Feb. 23, at Timber Lake Community Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. MDT Saturday at the community center, with the Rev. Tom Westhoven and the Rev. Andrzej Wyrostek officiating. Burial will be at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Timber Lake.

Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge is in charge of arrangements.

Louis Levi Wounded

PINE RIDGE - Louis Levi Wounded, 57, Number Four Community, Pine Ridge, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, in Rapid City.

Survivors include eight brothers, Cyrus Condon and Gene Condon, Eagle Butte, Darryl Condon and Merrill Condon, McLaughlin, Connie Weasel Bear and Victor Wounded, both of Number Four Community, Reggie Condon, Indianapolis, and Tim Harris, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; four sisters, Madeline LeClaire, Rapid City, Bernadine Condon, Dupree, Jeanette Condon, San Francisco, and Carol Wounded, Oglala; and his mother, Laura Condon, Dupree.

A one-night wake will begin at 1 p.m. today at Oglala Recreation Center.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at the recreation center, with the Rev. Tim Harris, the Rev. Jeff Watson and the Rev. Wilbur Mauk officiating.

Burial will be at Pine Creek Cemetery in Number Four Community.

Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge is in charge of arrangements.

James R. Rowe

HOT SPRINGS - James R. Rowe, 76, of Hot Springs, passed away on February 18, 2002, at the Fall River Hospital in Hot Springs, S.D.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, February 21, 2002, at Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel in Hot Springs.

Funeral Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday, February 22, 2002, at Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel, with Joe Birdsall officiating.

Interment will be at a later date.

He was born in Denison, Iowa, on February 10, 1926, to Dr. Frank and Charlotte (Kleckner) Rowe. He was the youngest of eight children. Jim moved to California in the early 1950s. He retired after 27 years from Lyon Moving and Storage, where he worked filing documents with the Public Utilities Commission. After the company moved to Texas, he went to work for Rockwell International working as a proofreader on the shuttle project. He retired from there in 1990. In 1991, he and his wife, Betty, moved to Hot Springs. Although he did not go to many social events, he enjoyed life here. The people here made him feel loved when they greeted him with a smile, a wave or a short conversation. Anyone who knew Jim knew of his love for music, and he was the biggest booster for Sid Phelps and all the members of the Black Hills Jazz Band that they could have. Jim was a kind, gentle man and will be missed by all who crossed his path. He attended the Church of Christ (Christian) in Hot Springs and enjoyed the fellowship with the people there.

Survivors include his wife, Betty, of Hot Springs; one son, Mike Olson and wife Kathrine of Long Beach, Calif.; three grandchildren, Matthew, Mark, and Patricia; his sister, Marian LaBaron of Huntington Beach, Calif.; brothers, Ken and Mortie of Brentwood, Calif., Vern of Chandler, Ariz., Donald and Maxine of Gold River, Calif., and sister-in-law Marena of San Jose, Calif.; a niece and many nephews; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Robert, Richard and Clinton.

A memorial has been established in Jim's memory to benefit CHAD (Community Health and Development) of Hot Springs at 209 North 16th Street.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel in Hot Springs.

Charles A. Hemler

HOT SPRINGS - Charles A. Hemler, 79, of Hot Springs, died February 19, 2002, at the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home in Hot Springs.

Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, February 21, 2002, at Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel.

Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, February 22, 2002, also at Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Gary Warren officiating.

Burial will be 3 p.m. Friday, February 22, 2002 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Charles was born August 31, 1922, to William Bryan and Margie A. (Davis) Hemler in Sundance, Wyoming. In 1928, Charlie moved with his family to Hot Springs, South Dakota, where he attended school. After high school, he joined the United States Navy and served during World War II. After his discharge in 1946,

Charlie went to work at the VA Medical Center in Hot Springs as the Building and Grounds keeper, and worked there until his retirement in 1975. Charlie then continued to live in Hot Springs.

Survivors include his sister and brother-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Robert Holwell of Hot Springs; nieces and nephews, Jill and Lalo Evangelista and their children Danny and Alicia, David B. Holwell, David Lee Headman and his children Holly and Dawn, Holly's daughter, Cumatagen, Robert Wayne Holwell II and his wife Hilary and their children Hannah and Robert Wayne Holwell III, Scott A. Holwell and his wife Sheila and their children Sean and Seth, and Tricia Holwell; and cousins.

Charlie was preceded in death by his father, mother, stepfather, and three brothers.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel of Hot Springs.

Elizabeth Julius Wood

RAPID CITY - Elizabeth Julius Wood, 94, Rapid City, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at Wesleyan Health Care Center in Rapid City.

Survivors include one son, Robert Julius, Sturgis; one daughter, Marlene Bisek, Rapid City; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today and for one hour before services Friday, Feb. 22, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel, with Chaplain Herbert Cleveland officiating.

Burial will follow at West Lead Cemetery.

Elisabeth Buchholz

PIERRE - Elisabeth Buchholz, 86, Pierre, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, at Maryhouse Sub-acute Center in Pierre.

Survivors include her husband, Ed Buchholz, Pierre; three sons, Ed Buchholz, Belle Fourche, Bruce Buchholz, Lafayette, Colo., and Pat Buchholz, Bakersfield, Calif.; two daughters, Pauline Erbele and Debby Comes, both of Pierre; 16 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Feigum Funeral Home in Pierre.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Assembly of God Church in Pierre.

Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Pierre.

Memorials may be made to Countryside Hospice, 800 E. Dakota, Pierre, SD 57501.
