Lila A. Norman Lee

SPEARFISH - Lila A. Norman Lee, 85, Spearfish, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at David M. Dorsett Health Care Facility in Spearfish.

Survivors include three sons, Robbie Lee, Torrance, Calif., Lynville Lee, Tijeras, N.M., and W. Kenneth Lee, Spearfish; 10 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren.

Her husband, Wallace Albert Lee, preceded her in death.

Burial will be at Green Hills Memorial Park in San Pedro, Calif.

Carlsen & Aldinger Funeral Home of Spearfish is in charge of arrangements.

F.J. 'Bud' Vojta

LAS VEGAS - F.J. "Bud" Vojta, 75, Las Vegas, Nevada, died unexpectedly on Thursday evening, February 7, 2002.

Bud was born at Mobridge, S.D., on December 15, 1926, to James and Mae (Thomas) Vojta. He grew up in Faith, S.D. He entered the Army in May 1945 and served until January 1947, serving overseas in Germany. After his discharge, he attended school at Black Hills State College. He then moved to southern California, where he had a long career in aerospace. Upon his retirement in 1988, he and his wife Hazel made their home in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Survivors include his son Gerald and wife Mary, Yorba Linda, California; four sisters, Jean Butler, Spearfish, S.D., Loretta Artz, Prescott, Ariz., Joann Singpiel, Rapid City, S.D., and Connie Johnson, Elk City, Oklahoma; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Hazel and son James.

Graveside services with military honors were held February 14, 2002, at Forest Lawn, Cypress, California.

Betty Ellen Redfield

RAPID CITY - Betty Ellen Redfield, 81, of Rapid City (formerly of Hot Springs), died February 19, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2002, at Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel in Hot Springs.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, February 21, 2002, also at Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel in Hot Springs, with Rev. Bruce Baum officiating.

Burial will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis.

Betty was born July 7, 1920, to Adam and Iola (Ewing) Slagel in Gregory County, South Dakota. She grew up in Madison, South Dakota. She graduated from high school in Madison and later moved to Hot Springs in 1949. She married Virgil B. Redfield on September 21, 1946, in Mitchell, South Dakota.

Betty went to Dakota State College and later got her Master's at Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska. She was a teacher in the eastern part of South Dakota, but taught mostly in Hot Springs, for 41 years. Betty taught Morse code during World War II to the Air Corps pilots. During her teaching career, she served on the State Board of Regents, retiring in 1982.

Betty was a very well read person; she loved to read. She also loved to travel, visiting such places as the Scandinavian countries, England, China, and Australia.

Survivors include her husband Virgil of Rapid City; one brother, Garold "Bud" Slagel of Madison; nephew Gary Slagel of Conifer, Colo.; nieces Kay Whiting of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Dianne Eavenson of Licking, Mo.; and nieces and nephews Mary Redfield, Shawn Redfield, Paul Redfield III, John Redfield, Elizabeth Redfield and Margaret Redfield.

A memorial has been established to benefit the Faith Lutheran Church in Rapid City.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel in Hot Springs.

James R. Rowe

HOT SPRINGS - James R. Rowe, 76, of Hot Springs, passed away on February 18, 2002, at the Fall River Hospital in Hot Springs, S.D.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, February 21, 2002, at Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel in Hot Springs.

Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Friday, February 22, 2002, at Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel, with Joe Birdsall officiating.

Interment will be at a later date.

He was born in Denison, Iowa on February 10, 1926, to Dr. Frank and Charlotte (Kleckner) Rowe. He was the youngest of eight children. Jim moved to California in the early 1950s. He retired after 27 years from Lyon Moving and Storage, where he worked filing documents with the Public Utilities Commission.

After the company moved to Texas he went to work for Rockwell International, working as a proofreader on the shuttle project. He retired from there in 1990. In 1991, he and his wife, Betty, moved to Hot Springs. Although he did not go to many social events, he enjoyed life here. The people here made him feel loved when they greeted him with a smile, a wave or a short conversation. Anyone who knew Jim knew of his love for music and he was the biggest booster for Sid Phelps and all the members of the Black Hills Jazz Band that they could have. Jim was a kind, gentle man and will be missed by all who crossed his path. He was a member of the Church of Christ (Christian) in Hot Springs and enjoyed the fellowship with the people there.

A memorial has been established in Jim's memory to benefit CHAD (Community Health and Development) of Hot Springs at 209 North 16th Street.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel in Hot Springs.

Harold Glen Edge

HILL CITY - Harold Glen Edge, 62, Hill City, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Edge, Hill City; one son, Robert Browning, Las Vegas; four daughters, Cindy Poulain, Hill City, Glinda Browning, Apple Valley, Calif., Sherry Gilpin, Hesperia, Calif., and Renee Browning, Garden Grove, Calif.; his mother, Thelma Edge, Stockton, Calif.; three sisters, Joyce Edge, Stockton, and Penny Edge and Hazel Edge, both of Washington; one brother, David Edge, Washington; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Kirk Funeral Home of Rapid City is in charge of arrangements.

Eunice L. Albrecht

RAPID CITY - Eunice L. Albrecht, 72, Rapid City, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital. She was born Aug. 1, 1929, at Flandreau, S.D., the daughter of Walter and Gunda (Ellingson) Weigel. She grew up in Flandreau and graduated from Flandreau High School. Eunice married Alvin Albrecht on June 10, 1949, at Flandreau. The couple resided in Pipestone, Minn., following their marriage, moving to Rapid City in 1957. She was employed for a time as a bookkeeper with St. John's McNamara Hospital and was later employed as a bookkeeper with Black Hills Mayflower, Merillat Particleboard Co. and the Spiegel Co. She was a member of the Altrusa Club, the Business and Professional Women's Club and the Literacy Council.

Survivors include her husband, Alvin Albrecht, Rapid City; two daughters, Elizabeth Albrecht, Rapid City, and Susan Leanhart and her husband Daryl, Nemo; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and eight brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home, with Rev. Bruce Baum officiating.

Interment will be at the Pine Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Literacy Council.

Allen Glines

MCINTOSH - Allen Glines, 73, McIntosh, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, in Fort Pierre.

Survivors include two sons, Leonard Glines, Rapid City, and Gerald Glines, Pierre; five daughters, Debbie Mistelski, Morristown, Diane Edinger, McIntosh, Connie Coyle, Lancaster, Calif., Janie Tschaekofske, Sacramento, Calif., and Holly Thorson, Fort Pierre; 25 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard Glines Sr., McIntosh; and two sisters, Mary Utter and Carol Hopkins, both of Mobridge.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. family service, at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon, and for one hour before services Thursday, Feb. 21, at Presbyterian Church in McIntosh.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the church, with Lay Pastor Tottie Lenerville

officiating.

Burial will be at McIntosh Cemetery.

Russell F. 'Pete' Hopkins

KADOKA - Russell F. "Pete" Hopkins, 77, Kadoka, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at

Valley Lutheran Hospital in Mesa, Ariz.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Hopkins, Kadoka; two sons, Jim Hopkins, Armada, Mich., and Bob Hopkins, Pahrump, Nev.; two daughters, Jeanie Kok, Whitewood, and Carolyn Trottier, Laona, Wis.; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Theresa Merrill, St. Francis, Minn.; and three half-brothers, David Hopkins, Billings, Mont., Dean Hopkins, Newcastle, Calif., and Daryl Hopkins, Watertown.

He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at Rush Funeral Chapel in Kadoka, and for one hour before services Friday, Feb. 22, at Presbyterian Church in Kadoka.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Gary McCubbin officiating.

Burial, with military honors by Sturgis Honor Guard, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

A memorial has been established.

Hiram J. Woodard

KADOKA - Hiram J. Woodard, 85, Kadoka, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at Kadoka Care Center.

Survivors include his wife, Gertrude Woodard, Kadoka; two stepsons, Vernon Richardson and Reed Richardson, both of Long Valley; two stepdaughters, Carol Duval, Helena, Mont., and Mary Tieskotter, Preston, Minn.; eight stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; two brothers, Clinton Woodard, Scottsburg, Ore., and Stanley Barber, Rapid City; and one sister, Janice Ruyle, Ouray, Colo.

Arrangements are pending with Rush Funeral Chapel of Kadoka.

Anna M. Spry

RAPID CITY - Anna M. Spry, 43, Rapid City, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, in Rapid City.

Survivors include one sister, Laurie Spry, Homosassa, Fla.

Arrangements are pending with Kirk Funeral Home of Rapid City.

Rolla Overacre

RAPID CITY - Rolla Overacre, 98, Rapid City, died in Rapid City Sunday, February 17, 2002.

He was born March 1, 1903, at Rogers, Arkansas, the son of James and Hester (Medlin) Overacre. He grew up on a farm near Berryville, Arkansas. Rolla married Eva E. Howard on Feb. 7, 1931, at Kansas City, Mo. He was employed with Western Union Telegraph Co., and his employment took him to numerous areas of the country. The family moved to Rapid City in 1945 and he was employed as a maintenance supervisor with Western Union Telegraph Co. until his retirement in 1965. He was an avid fisherman and was very familiar with all of the back roads and good fishing areas in the Black Hills.

Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Livingston and her husband Mel, Mesa, Ariz., and June Johnson, Rapid City; a brother, Morris Overacre, and a sister, Docia Snow, both of Berryville, Arkansas; eight grandchildren, Steve Johnson, Tom Johnson, Janet Steele and Susan Artzer, all of Rapid City, Nancy Linton, Tacoma, Washington, Matt Johnson, Livermore, Calif., Dan Livingston, Omaha, Neb., and Laurie Webb, Pomona, Calif.; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his lovely wife of 70 years, four brothers, four sisters and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church, with Dale Bartscher officiating. Interment will be at the Mountain View Cemetery.

A memorial has been established.
