Helen Reich Deibert

NEW UNDERWOOD - Helen Reich Deibert, 84, New Underwood and formerly of Eureka, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at Good Samaritan Center in New Underwood.

Survivors include two daughters, Ruby Perhus, Marshall, N.D., and Dorothy Ward, Easton, Pa.; one son, Larry Deibert, Rapid City; four sisters, Viola Schlenker, Yakima, Wash., Edna Reuther, Ashley, N.D., Delores Wockenfuss, Aberdeen, and Estella Merkel, Eureka; two brothers, Bennie Reich, St. Paul, Minn., and John Reich, Ashley; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Her husband, Arthur Deibert, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Carlsen

Funeral Home in Eureka, and for one hour before services Thursday, Feb. 21, at United Methodist Church in Eureka.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Robert Wittstruck officiating.

Burial will be at Eureka City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to South Dakota Diabetes Association, 4305 S. Louise Ave., Suite 205, Sioux Falls, SD

Alexander Olson

PARKSTON - Alexander Olson, 96, Parkston, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at Avera Borman Manor in Parkston.

Survivors include two sons, Laverne Olson, Sioux Falls, and Dennis Olson, Rapid City; one daughter, Betty Preszler, Lemmon; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Carol Olson, Rapid City, and Emerson Olson, Lawrence, Mass.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon, and for one hour before services Friday, Feb. 22, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lemmon.

A vigil rosary service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Dennis Riss officiating.

Burial will be at Greenhill Cemetery in Lemmon.

Lorraine H. Bales

GLEN ULLIN, N.D. - Lorraine H. Bales, 84, Glen Ullin and formerly of Lemmon, S.D., died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at Marian Manor Healthcare Center in Glen Ullin.

Survivors include one sister-in-law, Louise Jess, Lemmon.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, and from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at Evanson-Jensen's Prince of Peace Chapel in Lemmon, with the Rev. Harold Watrous officiating.

Burial will be at Greenhill Cemetery in Lemmon.

A memorial has been established.

Charles A. Hemler

HOT SPRINGS - Charles A. Hemler, 79, Hot Springs, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home in Hot Springs.

Survivors include one sister, Pat Holwell, Hot Springs.

Arrangements are pending with Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel of Hot Springs.

Raymond T. Millett

HOT SPRINGS - Raymond T. Millett, 82, of Hot Springs, died February 11, 2002, in Arvada, Colorado.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 28, 2002, at Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel in Hot Springs, S.D., with Pastor Mark Crossman and Fr. Ed Harnsberger officiating.

Burial will take place at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, February 28, 2002, at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis.

Ray was born in Prescott, Arizona, on April 28, 1919, to John and Johanna Millett. He was raised in Lead, S.D., and graduated from Lead High School in 1938. Ray worked at the Homestake Gold Mine in Lead and attended college at the University of Wyoming. In 1942, he married Betty Stanley, and they had three children, Martha, Donna and Ron. Ray joined the Marine Corps in May of 1942 and served in the 4th Marine Division during WWII. Following his military service, Ray lived and worked in Hot Springs. He married Lorry Lou Hadden on November 24, 1961, and they raised two daughters, Sabra (Sam) and Suzette. Ray was employed as a Fireman at the Veterans Administration until his retirement in the early 1980s.

Ray's great loves in life were his family, music and sports. Throughout his life, he was active in sport and music activities. Ray spent his retirement years enjoying golf at the Southern Hills Golf Course and the Southern Hills Pool League.

Survivors include his daughters, Sabra Ann (Sam) Millett of Arvada, Colo., and Suzette Ann (Mrs. Brad) Williamson of Hot Springs, Martha (Mrs. Ron) Bennett of Montesano, Wash., and Donna (Mrs. Neil) Nelson of Roswell, Ga.; one son, Ron (wife Diana) Millett of Eagan, Minn.; two brothers, Gilbert Millett of Fremont, Calif., and Clyde Millett of Granada Hills, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

His wife Lorry Lou preceded him in death.

A memorial has been established in Ray's memory to benefit the Southern Hills Golf Course in Hot Springs.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Rooks-

McColley Funeral Chapel in Hot Springs.

Julia Mary Richards-Sharp

ALLEN - Julia Mary Richards-Sharp, 69, Allen, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, in Allen.

Survivors include four sons, Robert Sharp, Pocatello, Idaho, and Roger Sharp, Albert Sharp Jr. and Jerry Sharp, all of Allen; three daughters, Alberta Mendenhall, Interior, and Lavonne McCollam and Carmen Cedar Face, both of Allen; one brother, John Richards, Porcupine; two sisters, Alyce Broughton, Long Beach, Calif., and Avis Oyster, Lakeland, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A two-night wake will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Sharp Ranch in Allen. The second night will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at American Horse School in Allen.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at the school, with Fr. Andreas LeBlang officiating.

Burial will be at the Sharp family cemetery in Allen.

Julia Mary Richards-Sharp was born March 6, 1932, in Allen, S.D., to Pete Richards and Lillian Nelson. She attended Red Cloud Indian School and Oglala Community High School. She married Carl C. Bettelyoun in 1950 and had one daughter, Carmen Bettelyoun-Cedar Face.

After his death, she married Albert Sharp and was married for 34 years. They made their home in Allen, where they ranched until his death in 1984. From this marriage, there were six children born.

Julia worked for the Allen Headstart from 1968-1972 and the American Horse School from 1978-1982, and the Martin Grade School from 1982-1984. In 1981, she graduated from Oglala Lakota College with an AA degree in education.

She also served on the OST Credit Board for four years and the Public Safety Review Board for 12 years. While employed at the American Horse School, she helped many youth through her association with Save the Children. She has been active in her community and the District for many years and has always taken a positive stance for the people of the Pass Creek District. At the time of her death, she was serving as Chairman of the Elderly program of Pass Creek District.

Sioux Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Opal A. Patterson

RAPID CITY - Opal A. Patterson, 74, Rapid City, died

Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include two sons, David McCoy, Rapid City, and Danny Wallace, Moran, Kan.; one brother, Floyd Speigelmyer, Gillette, Wyo.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at Behrens Mortuary in Rapid City.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at the mortuary.

Burial will follow at Bennett County Cemetery in Martin.

Dorothy J. Granzer

NEWCASTLE, Wyo. - Dorothy J. Granzer, 85, Newcastle, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at Weston Manor Nursing Home in Newcastle.

Survivors include two daughters, Loretta Murphy, Newcastle, and Dorothy Ferchea, Casper; one brother, Frank Westcott; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Joseph Granzer Jr., preceded her in death.

A rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. today at Worden Chapel in Newcastle.

Funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Newcastle, with the Rev. Bruce Clapham officiating.

Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Newcastle.

Memorials may be made to Corpus Christi Catholic Church or Weston Manor Nursing Home.

Merle B. Piearson

RAPID CITY — Merle B. Piearson, 96, Rapid City and formerly of Parker, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at a Rapid City nursing home.

Survivors include one son, Don Piearson, Rapid City; one brother, Glenn Speers, White Owl; and three grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending with Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home in Parker.

Bertha Mann

RAPID CITY — Bertha Mann, 84, Rapid City and formerly of Murdo, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at a local nursing home.

Survivors include one son, Dennis Mann, Rapid City.

Arrangements are pending with Campbell, Paula & Quinn Funeral Services in Rapid City.

Rachel ‘Grandma' Moore

RAPID CITY — Rachel "Grandma" Moore, 91, Rapid City, died Friday, February 15, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

She was born June 28, 1910, in Mound City, South Dakota, to Henry and Christine (Tilman) Sieler.

On May 9, 1935, she married Willard D. Moore. The couple lived in Bison where they raised their family. Rachel enjoyed music and dancing.

Survivors include one sister, Frieda Helm and her husband Art, Java, S.D.; two brothers, Alvin Sieler, Jamestown, N.D., and Herbert Sieler, Camirillo, Calif.; four sons, Marion Moore and his wife, Georgia, Billings, Mont., Harold Moore, Sidney, Mont., Larry Moore, Rapid City, and Darrell Moore and his wife, Patty, Black Hawk; special friend Irene Husby, Black Hawk; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Moore; her daughters, Clara-Mae Moore and Clara-Belle Emery; one grandchild, Scott Moore; and several brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be Tuesday, February 19, 2002, from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Behrens Mortuary.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2002, at Behrens Mortuary Chapel, with Reverend Bruce Baum officiating.

Burial will take place at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
