Harvey J. Davies
RAPID CITY - Harvey Junior Davies, 68, Rapid City, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne Davies, Rapid City; two sons, Ted Davies and Rick Davies, both of Rapid City; two brothers in Kansas; one sister in Florida; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He served in the U.S. Air Force for 22 years.
Inurnment, with military honors by Ellsworth AFB Honor Guard, will be at 3 p.m. today at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
Osheim-Catron Funeral Home of Rapid City is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established for the South Dakota Game, Fish & Parks Department.
W.A. Hickman
BLACKWELL, Texas - W.A. Hickman, 86, Blackwell and formerly of Ottumwa, S.D., died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, in Blackwell.
Survivors include his wife, Jeraldine Hickman, Blackwell; one son, Tommy Hickman, Midland, S.D.; two daughters, Shirley Halligan, Midland, and Suzanne Buchholz, Lafayette, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1942 to 1943.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at First United Methodist Church in Blackwell, with the Rev. Charles Casey officiating.
Burial will be at Blackwell Cemetery.
Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home of Sweetwater, Texas, is in charge of arrangements.

Arlen J. Sime
RAPID CITY - Arlen J. Sime, 62, Rapid City, died at his residence on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002.
He was born June 21, 1939, at Lemmon, S.D., the son of Arthur J. and Elizabeth (Schmidt) Sime. He moved with his family, as a child, to Sturgis and later to Rapid City. Arlen graduated from Rapid City High School. He married Patricia Dull on Sept. 16, 1961, in Rapid City. He was a longtime employee of the Postal Dept. in Rapid City. Arlen was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Sime, Rapid City; a son, Thomas A. Sime, Rapid City; a daughter, Jennifer J. Abernethy and her husband David, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a brother, Darrel Sime and a sister Elona Sime, both of Rapid City; and two grandchildren, Christopher Michael Abernethy and Nichole Abernethy, both of Colorado Springs.
A Living Memorial Gathering will be held from noon until 6 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at the Fairway Hills Party House, 3800 Fairway Hills Dr. in Rapid City.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.
Orpha Collins
SPEARFISH - Funeral services for Orpha Collins, 85, Spearfish, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2002, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lead, S.D., with
Rev. Greg Kroger officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Saturday. Orpha died Wednesday, February 13, 2002, at the Dorsett Health Care Facility in Spearfish, following a lengthy illness when her "stubborn little heart" gave out. A memorial has been established to the Alzheimer's Association.
Orpha was born April 17, 1916, at Duncombe, Iowa, the daughter of Harley R. and Ellen Mae (Meyers) Scovel. As a small child she moved with her family to Dalzell, S.D., later moving to Elm Springs and then to New Underwood. She married Martin Collins on June 2, 1936, and they made their home in Grizzly Gulch and raised 11 children there. Following Martin's death, Orpha moved to Lead in 1990, where she helped with the Collins House Bed and Breakfast. As her health began to fail she moved to the Serenity Corner in Spearfish, then to Sturgis for a time before entering the Kirkwood Manor in Deadwood and then to the Dorsett Health Care Facility. Her daughter Ellen was a constant caregiver for her.
Orpha loved baseball and was an avid Cubs fan.
She is survived by her children, James M. Collins, N.C., Carolyn (Charles) Davis, Lead, S.D., Gary H. Collins, Calif., Margaret (Cameron) Rinegar, Belle Fourche, S.D., Jack L. (Ramona) Collins, Spearfish, S.D., Allen F. (Dugan) Collins, Lead, S.D., Jean Collins, Colo., Joan Collins (Bob) Blinderman, Colo., Ellen (Les) Erikson, Lead, S.D., Kathleen (Brian) Veltman, Wash., and Jane (Duane) Stall, Sioux Falls, S.D.; a brother, Orville Scovel of Sturgis, S.D.; 19 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Martin, in 1989; a grandson, Shane Ommen in 1989; two sisters, Vada Hamling and Millie Hinzman; and three brothers, Merle, Glenn and Kenny Scoval.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Carlsen & Aldinger Funeral Home in Spearfish.
Orpha Collins
SPEARFISH - Orpha Collins, 85, Spearfish and formerly of Lead and Deadwood, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Dorsett Health Care Facility in Spearfish.
Survivors include four sons, James Collins, North Carolina, Gary Collins, California, Jack Collins, Spearfish, and Allen Collins, Lead; and seven daughters, Carolyn Davis and Ellen Erickson, both of Lead, Margaret Rinegar, Belle Fourche, Jean Collins and Joan Collins Blinderman, both of Colorado, Kathleen Veltman, Washington, and Jane Stahl, Sioux Falls.
Arrangements are pending with Carlsen & Aldinger Funeral Home of Spearfish.
Annice Corena Work
RAPID CITY - Annice Corena Work, 89, Rapid City, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at a Rapid City nursing home.
Survivors include one daughter, Kathryn Patton, Custer; two sons, Timothy Work, Rosemead, Calif., and James Work, Palmdale, Calif.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Private services will be held at a later date.

Sadie M. Assman
PIERRE - Sadie M. Assman, 87, Pierre and formerly of Winner, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre.
Survivors include two sisters, Alice Schaer, Sioux Falls, and Charlotte Christopher, Blair, Neb.; two daughters, Carol Brown, Tucson, Ariz., and Crystal Van Beck, Grand Rapids, Mich.; two sons, Robert Assman, Mission, and Bill Assman, Pierre; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Clarence Raymond Assman, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, with an 8 p.m. prayer service, at Mason Funeral Home in Winner.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Winner.
Burial will be at Winner Cemetery.
Leo William Cowan
PIERRE - Leo William Cowan, 92, Pierre, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at Maryhouse Nursing Care Center in Pierre.
Survivors include one sister, Edna Gregg, Pierre.
He served in the Army Air Force from 1942 to 1946.
Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Maryhouse Chapel in Pierre.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Pierre.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Pierre.
Isburg-Hofmeister Funeral Chapel of Pierre is in charge of arrangements.
Glenn O. Anderson
RAPID CITY - Glenn O. Anderson, 53, known through his advertising agency as Tom Franklin, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at a hospital in Fargo, N.D.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Anderson, Rapid City; two daughters, Nicolle Ossenfort and Amy Ellis, both of Rapid City; and one son, Ryan Anderson, Bozeman, Mont.
Arrangements are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home of Rapid City.
Verna M. Jacobs
MCINTOSH - Verna M. Jacobs, 82, McIntosh, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon.
Survivors include three sons, Roger Jacobs, Colorado Springs, Colo., Mel Jacobs, Bismarck, N.D., and Larry Jacobs, Timber Lake; six daughters, Deann Tschetter, Belle Fourche, Alice Hanks, Spearfish and Lemmon, Mary Ann Kane, Keldron, Linda Hilsendager, Cheyenne, Wyo., Jocelyn Meyer, Gillette, Wyo., and Vickie Volk, Sturgis; 36 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Orin Well and Kenneth Well, both of California; and two sisters, Norma Tuttle, Seattle, and Irene Hyslop, Missoula, Mont.
Her husband, Alvin Jacobs, preceded her in death.
A vigil rosary service will be at 7:30 p.m. today at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in McIntosh.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at the church with the Rev. Dennis Riss and the Rev. Steve Biegler officiating.
Burial will be at St. Bonaventure Catholic Cemetery.
A memorial has been established.

RAPID CITY - Daisy Lee Whealy, 63, Rapid City, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Survivors include her mother, Lillian Hultman, Rapid City; three sons, Blake Whealy, Piedmont, Bryan Whealy, Belle Fourche, and Brett Whealy, Black Hawk; one sister, Beverly Madiagon Neigl, Los Angeles; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at Campbell, Paula & Quinn Funeral Chapel in Rapid City, with the Rev. Steve Foss officiating.
Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Rapid City.
