Robert John Eichler
NEWELL - Robert John Eichler, 77, Newell, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at Lookout Memorial Hospital in Spearfish.
Survivors include three sons, Lynn Eichler, Rapid City, and Doug Eichler and Tracy Eichler, Newell; two brothers, Leslie Eichler, Vancouver, Wash., and Ray Eichler, Newell; two sisters, Edith Falk, Newell, and Ethel Graves, Billings, Mont.; and six granddaughters.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, and from
8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, and for one hour before services Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Newell.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Deb Geelsdottir officiating.
Burial will follow at Wilson Cemetery.
Lemoine Trout
RAPID CITY - Lemoine Trout, 58, Rapid City, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Trout, Rapid City; three sons, Greg Trout, Casper, Wyo., Tim Trout, Waltham, Mass., and Jeff Trout, Sioux Falls; his mother, Viola Trout, McCook, Neb.; one sister, Fauna Allen, Colville, Wash.; and three grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home of Rapid City.
Jimmy Fischer
EAGLE BUTTE - Jimmy Fischer, 66, Eagle Butte, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at Isburg-Hofmeister Funeral Chapel in Pierre.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at Community Bible Church in Pierre.
Burial will be at Scotty Philip Cemetery in Pierre.
Madeleine Edna (Baker) Bratton
RAPID CITY - Madeleine E. Baker Bratton died peacefully in her sleep on February 6, 2002, of natural causes at the Wesleyan Health Care Center in Rapid City, South Dakota.
She was born on April 4, 1904, in Portland, Oregon, to Frank and Carrie Ida Baker, and lived in Portland until her marriage to Ralph Waldo Bratton on May 9, 1924.
She attended primary and secondary schools in Portland, Oregon, and became an accomplished pianist, playing several concerts in public and on radio programs in the Portland area.
She moved to Wyoming with her husband in 1924, where they managed and then owned the Golden Rule Clothing Store in Basin, Wyoming, for over 40 years.
She was a member of the St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Basin, serving on the Altar Guild and as church organist.
Mrs. Bratton also taught piano to many young people in the Basin, Wyoming, area for many years, and played for the silent movies shown in the Basin Theatre on several occasions.
Upon her husband Waldo's death in 1980, she moved to Rapid City, South Dakota, to be near her daughter, Carolyn Finley and family of Rapid City, South Dakota, and her son, Richard W. Bratton and family of Gillette, Wyoming.
Madeleine Bratton was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Frank Carole; and her husband, Ralph Waldo Bratton. She was also preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Mary Imogene; a son-in-law, Gene McClain; and three grandchildren of Wichita, Kansas, who were killed in a private plane crash in Nebraska in March of 1964. Also preceding her in death was her son-in-law, Dr. Richard C. Finley of Rapid City, South Dakota.
She had a special loving relationship for her Lord, Jesus Christ, and a very special sense of humor. Those of her family left do celebrate her life, and they do so with grateful hearts for having her so many years to love and enjoy.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn M. Finley, Rapid City, South Dakota, and her son, Richard W. Bratton and his wife Alice of Gillette, Wyoming, along with seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and her remains will be taken to Basin, Wyoming, to be buried in the family plot in the Mountain View Cemetery. That memorial burial service in her honor will be scheduled at a later date in the spring of 2002.
Memorials may be sent to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church at 401 S. 8th Street in Basin, Wyoming, or to the R.W. and Madeleine Bratton Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Security State Bank, P.O. Box 531 in Basin, Wyoming, or to any other charity of the donor's choice.
Tate Allan Vosberg
BLUNT - Tate Allan Vosberg, 33, Blunt, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Leann Vosberg, Blunt; four stepchildren, Cole Lee, Christi Lee, Cheri Johnson and Mark Johnson; his father, Richard Vosberg, Belvidere; his mother, Erin Bourk, Blunt; one sister, Holly Nemee, Midland; and one brother, Kelly Vosberg, Blunt.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Isburg-Hofmeister Funeral Chapel in Pierre.
Services will be at 2 p.m. CST Saturday, Feb. 9, at Blunt Auditorium.
Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Blunt.
Raymond H. Eilers
RAPID CITY - Raymond H. Eilers, 83, Rapid City, died at a Rapid City nursing home Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002.
He was born on a farm in Moody County, S.D., the son of Herman and Elizabeth (Husman) Eilers. Raymond attended grade school in Lynn Township. He was baptized and confirmed in the Chester Lutheran Church and graduated from Chester High School. He graduated from SDSU in 1948 with a major in animal science and worked for the USDA as County Agriculture Agent in Tripp County, Winner, S.D. He was State Weed
Supervisor for the Dept. of Agriculture in Pierre, S.D. Ray retired after 30 years of civil service with the USDA.
He enlisted in the Army for foreign service and was stationed in Hawaii at Fort Shaftner in 1941 when Pearl Harbor was bombed and the U.S. was brought in to WWII. Most of his 5-1/2 years in the Army were spent in the Pacific at Pearl Harbor, Hickam Field, Guadalcanal and New Guinea. In July of 1945 he was in one of the first groups to return from the Pacific for discharge under the government's point system program.
Raymond married Ava Hamilton on June 17, 1949, at Winner, S.D. He was active in many organizations and was recognized for his outstanding work with the USDA. He helped organized the S.D. Chapter of the Pearl Harbor Assn. and had served in all positions within the organization. Ray was active in the American Legion in Winner, Pierre, and Sun Lake, Ariz. He served as Commander of the American Legion at Sun Lake, Ariz. He was a member of the American Legion Post 22 in Rapid City and Rushmore VFW Post 1273 in Rapid City. He was an active member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Rapid City and will be missed by the members of the church.
Survivors include his wife, Ava Eilers, Rapid City; three sons, Larry Eilers, Ankeny, Iowa, Leonard Eilers, Denver, Colo., and Alan Eilers, Spearfish, S.D.; four sisters, Velda Brandt, Rapid City, Verlan Ferrara, Baton Rouge, La., Laura Kirkegaard, Trent, S.D., and Martha Minter, Hermiston, Oregon; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters, John, Fred, Henry, Stella, Amanda, Clara, Alvin, Meint, Norma and Edna.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Sunday, at the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Rapid City, with Rev. Michael Wilke officiating. Interment, with military honors provided by Rushmore VFW Post 1273, will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and the Good Shepherd Lutheran School.
Marion William O'Neill
HERMOSA - Marion William O'Neill, 92, of Hermosa died Monday, February 4, 2002, at Colonial Manor of Custer.
Marion was born March 25, 1909, at the O'Neill ranch near Folsom to Fritz and Lola (Caple) O'Neill. He went to the country school of the Wilcox homestead, and attended high school in Farmingdale and Rapid City. Marion dedicated his life to being a rancher and farmer except for his time in the United States Army during WWII.
Marion loved cutting and polishing rocks and picking up Fairburn agates.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Walter and Owen O'Neill.
Survivors include four brothers, Ralph O'Neill of Custer, Wayne O'Neill and wife Helen of Rapid City, Loren O'Neill of Hermosa, and Francis O'Neill and wife Louise of Helena, Mont., and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 7, 2002, at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City and one hour before services.
Services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Barb Gammeter officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Lawn Memorial Park in Rapid City.
A memorial has been established.
Delores Gorman
HILL CITY - Delores Gorman, 62, Hill City, died at her residence Monday, Feb. 4, 2002.
She was born Jan. 31, 1940, at Mott, N.D., the daughter of Fred and Elizabeth (Zimmerman) Schauer Sr. She grew up and attended school at Hettinger, N.D. Delores moved to Rapid City in 1968 and was married to Thomas J. Gorman Jr. on Nov. 7, 1970, at Hill City, S.D.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Gorman and his wife, Alice, Rapid City, and Allen Gorman and his wife, Jeannie, Spanaway, Washington; a daughter, Lynn Beasley and her husband, Frank, St. Robert, Missouri; a brother, Fred Schauer and his wife, Corrine, Billings, Mont.; a sister, Ramona Roll and her husband, Dwight, Onalaska, Wisconsin; and three grandchildren, Brandon Gorman, Brady Gorman and April Beasley. She was preceded in death by her husband on Aug. 23, 2000.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Rose of Lima Church in Hill City, with Rev. John Heying as the celebrant.
Interment will be in Hill City Cemetery under the direction of the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.
Shirley Jane Hintz
SPEARFISH - Shirley Jane Hintz, 74, Spearfish and formerly of Deadwood, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at Lookout Memorial Hospital in Spearfish.
Arrangements are pending with Carlsen & Aldinger Funeral Home of Spearfish.
George H. Elley
CUSTER - George H. Elley, 89, Custer, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Custer.
Survivors include two sons, George Dale, Tempe, Ariz., and Ben Elley, Silver Springs, Md.; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one sister, Hazel Howlett, Lincoln, Neb.
His wife, Hilda Elley, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel in Hot Springs.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at United Churches in Hot Springs, with the Rev. Gary Warren officiating.
Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs.
Edna Marie Carey
EDGEMONT - Edna Marie Carey, 87, of Edgemont, formerly of Kiowa, Kansas, died Tuesday, February 5, 2002, at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Custer, S.D.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, February 9, 2002, at the First Christian Church in Kiowa, Kan., with Rev. Vernie Havorka officiating.
Burial will follow at the Riverview Cemetery in Kiowa.
Edna was born August 9, 1914, in Barber County, Kansas, to Eduard and Mary (Wendel) Schreiber. She graduated from high school in Kiowa in 1934 and later attended Venus Academy of Beauty in Wichita, Kan. On July 25, 1939, Edna married Leonard L. Carey in Attica, Kan., and to this union one daughter, Linda, was born. She continued as a beautician, having her own shop out of her home for many years. Edna and Leonard resided in Kiowa for 58 years until moving to Edgemont, South Dakota in 1997.
Edna was a member of the First Christian Church of Kiowa. She taught the primary Sunday School class for over 20 years. She even had the privilege of teaching her daughter and granddaughters.
Edna is survived by her husband, Leonard Carey of Edgemont; one daughter, Linda and Jerry Vossberg of Edgemont; granddaughters, Lisa Crow of Rapid City, Dawn and Brian Morrow of Maize, Kan., and Leigh An Crow of Aiea, Hawaii; one great-grandson, Austin Morrow of Maize, Kan.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, William Schreiber; and one sister, Alma Palmer.
Arrangements have been placed in the care of Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel in Hot Springs, S.D., and Fisher Funeral Home in Kiowa, Kan.
