Juanita Maybelle Fischer
CUSTER - Juanita Maybelle Fischer, 96, of Custer, formerly of Hot Springs, died February 3, 2002, at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Custer, S.D.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 7, 2002, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Hot Springs, with Fr. John Heying officiating.
Maybelle was born March 29, 1905, to Thomas B. and Zona (Hudspeth) Wilson in Buffalo Gap, South Dakota. She was the fourth child and only daughter, raised on the Wilson Ranch 25 miles east of Buffalo Gap. She attended school at the Cheyenne River Day School until 7th grade, when she started at the French Creek School, and then went on to 8th grade in Omaha, Nebraska. After her mother's death when she was 13 years old, she was enrolled at the St. Agnes Catholic Academy in Alliance, Nebraska, to finish her education. Maybelle later went on to attend the Spearfish Teachers College and Rapid City Business College, where she majored in Bookkeeping. Following her business training, she worked in Rapid City for two years. Maybelle later went on to the Milwaukee Beauty School to become a beautician. By 1931, she owned her own beauty shop and expanded until she owned three shops. On June 28, 1938, she married Rueben Fischer. After his death, Maybelle moved to Hot Springs, South Dakota, and had resided there until moving to the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Custer in 1995, where she resided until her death.
Survivors include one foster daughter, JoAnne Hense of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; one brother, Owen O. Wilson of Las Vegas, Nevada; numerous nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Charles W. "Bleutch" Wilson, John Thomas Wilson and Frank D. Wilson; two husbands; and an infant daughter.
Arrangements have been placed in the care of Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel in Hot Springs.
Hershel F. Butterfield
STURGIS - Hershel F.
Butterfield, 80, Sturgis, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, at Fort Meade Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Sturgis.
Survivors include his wife, Verna Butterfield, Sturgis; one daughter Tamara Burley, Pierre; seven sons, Dennis Butterfield and Gary Butterfield, both of Mitchell, Hal Butterfield and Lynn Butterfield, both of Pierre, David Starkjohan, Omaha, Neb., Jeffrey Starkjohan, Lewistown, Mont., and Clifford Starkjohan, Rapid City; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Arrangements are pending with Carlsen & Aldinger Funeral Home of Sturgis.
Delores Gorman
HILL CITY - Delores Gorman, 62, Hill City, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at her home.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Gorman, Rapid City, and Allen Gorman, Spanaway, Wash.; one daughter, Lynn Beasley, St. Robert, Mo.; one brother, Fred Schauer, Billings, Mont.; one sister, Ramona Roll, Onalaska, Wis.; and three grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hill City.
Burial will be at Hill City Cemetery.

William Lloyd Blue Bird
WAKPAMNI LAKE - William Lloyd Blue Bird, 54, Wakpamni Lake, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, in Batesland.
Survivors include his wife, Nadine Blue Bird, Batesland; three daughters, Sarah Blue Bird and Kristy Blue Bird, both of Batesland, and Nora Farland, Phoenix; two brothers, Louis Little White Man, Kyle, and Bernard Little White Man, Wakpamni Lake; four sisters, Bernadine Blue Bird, Debbie Blue Bird and Geraldine Little White Man, all of Wakpamni Lake, and Bernadine Tallman, Allen; his father, Casey Blue Bird, Wakpamni Lake; and one grandchild.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971.
A two-night wake will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at Batesland School Gym.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at the school gym, with the Rev. Ben Tyon, the Rev. Bernard Little White Man Sr., the Rev. Cordelia Red Owl and the Rev. Daniel Makes Good officiating.
Burial will be at St. Andrew's Episcopal Cemetery in Wakpamni Lake.

Jillian Emily Hodgdon
OCEANSIDE, Calif. - Jillian Emily Hodgdon, daughter of Christopher and Lynette Hodgdon of Oceanside, California, made her transition on February 3, 2002. Jillian was born on July 10, 2001, at the Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton. She was known to many as Jilly-bean and loved by all she met. Jillian was one of the most perfect children sent from God, always smiling and giggling to family and strangers alike. Jillian was perfection. In the short time she was with us the loving impact she had will last a lifetime.
Jillian is survived by her grandparents, Sharon Nevin, Michael and Suzanne Nevin, Herbert and Donna Hodgdon; aunts and uncle, Kris Endres, Michelle Looney, Megan Nevin, and Herbert Hodgdon; great-grandparents, Viriginia Rechin, Thomas and Colleen Nevin; great-aunts and uncles, Brix McDonald, Annella Faye, Shirley Berk, Chanice Shanks, Holly Noyes, Thurston Hodgdon, Ronald Mattice, Linda Colman.
Services will be held to honor Jillian on Wednesday,
February 6, 2002, at 11 a.m. at King of Kings Lutheran Church, located at 2993 MacDonald Street, Oceanside, CA 92054.
Chester Dean Two Bulls
RED SHIRT TABLE - Chester Dean Two Bulls, 47, Red Shirt Table, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Survivors include two daughters, Vanessa Two Bulls and Jessica Two Bulls, both of Pine Ridge; five brothers, Gerald Two Bulls, Rapid City, and Connie Weasel Bear, Pat Two Bulls, Leo Two Bulls and Harold Two Bulls, all of Number Four Community, Pine Ridge; and six sisters, Doris Reyne and Phylis Two Bulls, both of Longmont, Colo., Freida Spencer, Rapid City, Vivian Creathbaum, Sheridan, Wyo., Carol Joy, Hardin, Mont., and Lisa Two Bulls, Number Four Community.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1972 to 1973.
A two-night wake will begin at 3 p.m. today at Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge. The second night will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at Red Shirt School Gym in Red Shirt Table.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, in the school gym, with the Rev. Robert Two Bulls and the Rev. Phylis Alexander officiating.
Burial will be at Christ Church Episcopal Cemetery in Red Shirt Table.

Florence Maxwell
RAPID CITY - Florence Maxwell, 90, Rapid City, died Monday, February 4, 2002, at a local nursing home.
Florence was born March 17, 1911, near Hoven, S.D. Her entire existence revolved around her family.
She loved to garden, bake, play bingo and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother to her husband, Dick; her children, Karolyn and her husband, Art Olmstead, Joe and wife, Marlene, Richard (Dale) and his wife, Rogene, and Donald. She especially loved her grandkids, Ardee, Blake, Michelle, Brian, Kevin, Kim, Molly, Megan and her great-grandchild, Zachary. She is also survived by two sisters, Adelaide Weiss of Hoven, S.D., and Ann Marsh of Montebello, Calif.
She was preceded in death by husband Dick, eight brothers and sisters and her parents.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 5, 2002, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Behrens Mortuary.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, February 6, 2002, at 10 a.m. at St. Therese the Little Flower Catholic Church, with Father Bryan Lane as celebrant.
Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, S.D.
A memorial has been established for Hospice of the Hills.
Behrens Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Ivan Ernest Valentine
FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Ivan Ernest Valentine, 79, Fort Collins and formerly of Belle Fourche, S.D., and Faith, S.D., died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at Columbine Care Center West in Fort Collins.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Valentine, Fort Collins; two sons, Tim Valentine and Kevin Valentine, both of Denver; one granddaughter; one brother, John Valentine, Egan, S.D.; and one sister, Margie Chamley.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from June 1942 to October 1945.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, with a 7 p.m. vigil service, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Colman, S.D.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at the church, with the Rev. Chester Murtha and the Rev. Mike Huntington officiating.
Burial, with military honors by Kelly-Porter American Legion Post No. 70 of Flandreau, S.D., will be at Hillside Cemetery in Egan.

Norma June Jordan
WINNER - Norma June Jordan, 79, Winner, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at Winner Regional Nursing Home.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at Mason Funeral Home in Winner.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Winner.
Burial will be at Winner Cemetery.
Leona Catherine Norris
EAGLE ROCK, Calif. - Leona Catherine Norris, 91, Eagle Rock and formerly of Piedmont, S.D., died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at Methodist Hospital of Southern California in Los Angeles.
Survivors include one son, Max Norris, Los Angeles; one daughter, Linda Jackson, Parker, Ariz.; three sisters, Geraldine Grams and Martha Patterson, both of Sturgis, S.D., and Alta McVay, Piedmont; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Her husband, George Justin Norris, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at Grace United Methodist Church in Piedmont, with the Rev. Dan Freed officiating.
Burial will follow at Piedmont Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Grace United Methodist Building Fund, Piedmont.
Marion William O'Neill
HERMOSA - Marion William O'Neill, 92, Hermosa, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at Colonial Manor in Custer.
Survivors include four brothers, Ralph O'Neill, Custer, Wayne O'Neill, Rapid City, Loren O'Neill, Hermosa, and Francis O'Neill, Helena, Mont.
