Ralph Brown

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- Ralph Joseph Brown of Woodstock, GA, passed away Tuesday, April 26, at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Ga.

He was born October 8, 1951, in Yankton, SD. In high school he enjoyed wrestling and outdoor activities such as camping and fishing. Known as "Junior" to his many friends and family, he graduated from high school in Vermillion, SD, in 1970. A year later at the University of South Dakota he met his one true love before she even knew it. Gail was starring in a university play, and Ralph turned to his friend and told him he was going to marry her before he even met her. It was truly love at first sight for Ralph. They married November 27, 1971. After studying with Jehovah's Witnesses, Ralph publicly declared his dedication to serve Jehovah God at the Kansas City, Missouri, International Convention in 1973. In 1975 they moved to the Atlanta area. Ralph always was cracking jokes and doing impersonations, making others around him laugh even when they didn't think they could. Ralph stayed faithful to Jehovah God throughout his life and even continued talking about Jehovah from his hospital bed until the day he passed away. When he wasn't very strong healthwise, he still found pleasure in witnessing via the telephone and letter-writing. He cared deeply for his children and grandchildren, always being there when they needed him. During their nearly 34 years of marriage, he treated Gail with boundless love and deep respect, showing his devotion to her in very creative ways, always putting her needs above his own. He was greatly loved and respected by many and will be missed by a great number of people. Even though his health was failing in the last 10 years of his life, he did not let his health problems overshadow the needs of others around him, always having a warm smile and a caring word for others.

Some of his personal passions beyond his family and those around him included witnessing about Jehovah God's promises, especially the resurrection hope to the Paradise Earth; fishing; watching the Falcons and playing Pinochle with his favorite partner, Gail. Ralph was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Ralph is survived by his wife of 33 years, Gail Susan Brown; son and daughter-in-law, James Mathew Brown Jr. & Danielle Yvonne; daughter and son-in-law, Shelley Marie and Ryan Dennis Irons, and daughter Suzanne Janeane Brown; grandchildren: Christian Michael Irons, Ian McKay Irons, and Mia Marie Irons; father, Ralph William Brown Sr.; brother, Allen Edison Brown; sister, Paula Marie Brown.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at the Woodstock Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 2369 S Cherokee Ln, Woodstock, GA.
