Lucille Brisby

WAGNER - Mass of the Christian Burial for Lucille T. Brisby, 84, of Wagner will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2008 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Wagner. Burial is in the parish Cemetery, rural Wagner.

Visitation will be Thursday from noon until 5 p.m. at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner. Rosary/Wake services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Lucille T. Brisby was born October 13, 1923 at Omaha, NE, the daughter of Bernard and Mary (Chon) Kopaczewski. She died Sunday, January 20, 2008 at her home in Wagner, SD. Lucille attained the age of 84 years, three months and seven days.

Lucille attended school at South High in Omaha, NE. She married George E. Brisby on February 6, 1943 at Omaha, NE. They lived in Omaha where Lucille worked at the Lithuanian Bakery and also in California where she worked at Subway and also as a cook for the Anaheim School District. They moved to Wagner, SD in 1996.

Lucille was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Wagner. She was also a member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliary.

Lucille will be remembered for her love of crafts, gardening and her ornery nature.

Thankful for having shared her life are her two daughters: SanDee and husband Stan Swatek of Wagner, SD; Sally Barnes of Orange, CA; a son, George "Shorty" and wife Jackie Brisby of Wagner, SD; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a brother, John Kopaczewski of Omaha, NE; two sisters: Helen Hastings and Mary Whipple, both of Omaha, NE and a special nephew, Joey Brisby of Virginia.

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, George on February 22, 2001; parents; two grandkids: Michael Swatek and Josh Brisby; three infant brothers and a sister, Bernice Craig.

Eunice Bainbridge

SCOTLAND -- Eunice M. Bainbridge, 79, of Scotland died Thursday (Jan. 18, 2007) at Landmann-Jungman Memorial Hospital, Scotland.

Funeral services are at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Scotland. Interment follows in Rosehill Cemetery, Scotland.

Visitation is from 3-9 p.m. today (Friday), with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service, at Goglin Funeral Chapel, Scotland.

Ruth Addison

PONCA, Neb. -- Ruth M. Addison, 82 of Ponca passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, South Dakota.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 20, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Newcastle, Nebraska. Pastor Gary Kimm is officiating. Burial will be in the Newcastle Cemetery in Newcastle, Nebraska.

There will be visitation at the Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca, Nebraska from 3.00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 19, 2007 with the family present.

Ruth was born on August 9, 1924 in rural Murdo, South Dakota, the daughter of Alfred and Helen (Lewon) Sorenson. She graduated from Ponca High School in 1942. She worked in the shipyards in California during World War II. Ruth married Keith Addison on March 16,1947 in Ponca, Nebraska. The couple farmed in the Newcastle area until 1978, when they retired and moved to Ponca. She enjoyed playing cards, sewing, quilting, and her flower garden.

Ruth was a "Charter Member" of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #82 in Newcastle. She was also a member of Entre Nous, the Newcastle Birthday Card Club, the Congregational United Church of Christ and Ladies Aid in Newcastle and the Rebecca Lodge of Newcastle.

Survivors include her husband Keith; two daughters, Linda and her husband Gary Burns of Hartington, Nebraska and Marilyn Miller of Yankton, South Dakota; two brothers, Vern Sorenson of Tucson, Arizona and Kenneth and his wife Mary Sorenson of Port Angeles, Washington; one sister, Evelyn Gladem of Columbus, Nebraska; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Broveak of South Sioux City, Nebraska, three grandchildren, Amy Nieuwsma, Brenda Johanns and Kimberly Miller; five great-grandchildren, Jessica Wiebelhaus, Gillian Johanns, Peyton Nieuwsma, Corin Johanns and Addison Nieuwsma; several nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Wilma Andrews and one son-in-law, Steve Miller.

Erwin Graber

SIOUX FALLS -- Erwin Graber, 98, of Sioux Falls and formerly of Yankton, died Thursday, January 18, 2007, at the Royal C. Johnson Veteran's Memorial Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2007, at Kostel Funeral Chapel, Yankton, SD with Joe Hobbs and Jim Chafee, officiating. Burial will be in the Yankton City Cemetery following the funeral with military honors by Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post #791, Yankton, SD.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, January 19, 2007, at the Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, SD. Visitation will resume on hour prior to the service at Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory.

Erwin was born on April 30, 1908, to Dan and Marie Graber in Freeman, SD. He was the oldest of 12 brothers and sisters. Erwin grew up in the Freeman, Dolton, and Bridgewater areas. Erwin worked on area farms during the Depression until enlisting in the U. S Army in 1935. He was stationed at Fort Snelling, MN until October 1938. Erwin re-enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1938 and requested transfer to Hawaii in 1939. He was assigned to 16th Coast Artillery at Fort Ruger as a Staff Sergeant in the supply company.

Erwin was on duty as a supply sergeant on December 7, 1941, when Pearl Harbor was attacked. Erwin remained in Hawaii until May 1943, when he was assigned to Fort Irwin to train new recruits for desert warfare. In April 1944, Erwin was sent to England to prepare for the invasion of mainland Europe. Following D-Day, July 1944, Erwin was sent to France with the 580th Signal Supply and spent the remainder of the war in Europe. Erwin was honorably discharged in July 1945. He married Mabel Hellwig in January 1947. Mabel and infant daughter, Marilyn, died in May 1950. On April 25, 1955, Erwin married Eleanor (Krantz) Morrill.

Erwin worked in the Sioux Falls area for the Ross Lumberyard, and Dekalb seed corn company. In 1947, Erwin moved to Menno, SD where he owned and operated the Gamble Hardware Store. In 1961, Erwin moved to Viborg, SD where he worked for VerBeek Plumbing and Heating until his retirement in April 1978. Erwin served on the Viborg City Council and a term as the Mayor of Viborg from 1971-73.

In 1990, Erwin and Eleanor moved to Yankton where they lived until Eleanor died in 2003. Erwin then moved to the Greenleaf Independent Living Facility in Sioux Falls where he lived to the present.

Thankful for having shared in his life are his daughter, Betty Simmons of Selah, WA; son, Daniel (Shannon) Graber of Sioux Falls, SD; 4 grandchildren: Nathan Simmons, Cody Simmons, Annika Graber, Grant Graber; brother, Dale Graber of Clearwater, KS and sister, Janet Green of Tucson, AZ.

Erwin is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Mabel, Delma, Hilda; six brothers: Rueben, Palmer, Earl, Lester, Roy, Donald; his first wife, Mabel; infant daughter, Marilyn; and second wife, Eleanor.

Evelyn Lien

VOLIN -- Evelyn Charlotte Lien, 99, of Volin, SD passed away Friday, January 19, 2007 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 23, at Faith United Lutheran Church, rural Irene. Burial will follow in the Volin Cemetery, rural Volin.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, January 22, at the Hansen Funeral Home in Irene.

Evelyn was born December 16, 1907 in Volin to Edward O. and Louise (Juttelstad) Lien. She grew up in the Volin area and graduated from Volin High School. She later attended South Dakota State University and graduated in 1930. She worked various jobs in the Burke, Sioux Falls and Volin areas. She was in Banking for 24 years. She was active in many Volin community organizations.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters; Beatrix Lien and Mildred Miller, also one nephew.

Survivors include one niece Margaret (Don) Wickler, of Rapid City, four great nephews, one great niece, two great-great nephews, one great-great niece and her cat Susie.

LeRoy Johnson

VOLIN -- LeRoy M. Johnson, 84, of Volin died Saturday (Jan. 20, 2007) at Wakonda Heritage Manor, Wakonda.

Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Harvest Independent Baptist Church, Mission Hill, with the Rev. Elaine Miller officiating. Burial is in the Mission Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post No. 791.

Visitation is from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at Wintz & Ray Funeral Home, Yankton, with a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation resumes one hour prior to the funeral service at church.

Gertrude Burbach

OMAHA, Neb. -- Gertrude W. Burbach, 97, of Omaha, Nebraska and formerly of Hartington, NE, died on Friday, January 19, 2007 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Millard, NE.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, January 22, 2007 at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington with the Rev. John Pietramale and Monsignor Cyril Werner officiating. Burial will be at St. Michael's Cemetery in Hartington. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1-8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 2:00 p.m. and a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.

Pallbearers will be Michael Burbach, Chuck Bruns, Matthew Burbach John Burbach, Mark Burbach, John Murphy, Dan Dziedzic, Tom Chapman, and Kristi Delwick.

Gertrude was born on April 5, 1909 near St. Helena, Nebraska, the fifth of Joseph C. and Anna (Casey) Wieseler's six children. She grew up on farm near St. Helena and married Arthur L. Burbach on January 20, 1931 in St. Helena. The couple farmed near St. James, NE until October 1945 when they moved to Hartington. In September of 1955 the family moved to Omaha and in July of 1974 they retired in Sun City, Arizona. After Arthur's death on April 20, 1993, Gertrude returned to Omaha.

She was a member of Christian Mothers and the Catholic Daughters of America.

Gertrude is survived by 8 children and their spouses, Della and Al Bruns of Roseville, MN, Gerald and Marilyn Burbach of Phoenix, AZ, Arthur and Joyce Burbach of Bellevue, NE, Eugene and Marcella Burbach of Hartington, NE, Romaine Murphy Cole and Allen of Omaha, Claudia Dziedzic of Phoenix, AZ, Charles Burbach of Ashboro, NC, and Richard Burbach of Minneapolis, MN, 34 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, a special niece, LeAnn and Hub Uhing of Hartington, a special nephew, Fred and Cindy Burbach of Apopka, Florida, and many other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Art, an infant daughter, Mary, a son R. Donald Burbach in 1997, a daughter, Karen Chapman in 2005, 4 brothers Fred, Otto, Mark, and Rudolph Wieseler; and one sister, Dorothy Burbach.

Brunhilde 'Bruni' Dean

Brunhilde "Bruni" I. Dean, age 72, of Yankton, died Friday, January 19, 2007 at the Avera Yankton Care Center in Yankton, SD.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Yankton, SD with Rev. Dave Wildermuth officiating. Burial at approximately 12:45 p.m. in the Rosehill Cemetery, Scotland, SD.

Visitations will be held on Monday, January 22, 2007 at Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, SD from 5-7 p.m. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the funeral at the church.

Pallbearers will be Gary and Velma Kuchta, Gerald Mutschelknaus, Lynette Dean, Deb Gubbels, and Duane Dean.

Bruni was born June 5, 1934 to Wilhelm and Maria (Frank) Taubensee in East Prussia. She was united in marriage to Donavan Dean on September 17, 1959 in Bad Aibling, Germany. From this union two children were born David and Katherine. She was employed as a sales clerk in various women's clothing stores and also put on numerous fashion shows. For many years, she enjoyed doing seamstress work out of her home, working and arranging dried flower arrangements, and various crafts. She loved to spend time with her family and friends, traveling, shopping, camping and fishing.

Those who will always cherish her memory are her husband, Donavan Dean of Yankton, SD; her children David Dean of Oakdale, MN and Katherine (Terry) Ward of Rochester, MN; her brothers: Ervin Taubensee of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, Armin Taubensee of Black Falls, Alberta, Canada, and Winfred Taubensee of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada; her sisters: Rita Waugh, Crystal Zill, Ursula Gandt, Thea Taubensee, Doris Clark, and Gudrin Jannesek, all of the Hamilton, Ontario, Canada area; two grandsons, Tim and Kyle Ward; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one infant sister, Rotraud.

Marjorie Lee

IRENE -- Marjorie G. Lee, 86, of Irene died after a lengthy illness January 15, 2007, at Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Irene, where she had lived for the past year.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 22, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Irene. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery at Irene.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, January 21, at the Hansen Funeral Home in Irene.

Marjorie Lee was born in Irene on October 24, 1920, to Gustav J. Lee and Anna Sophie Johnson Lee. She graduated from Irene High School and Augustana College. After receiving her degree, she taught at elementary schools in various locations in South Dakota, including Spencer, Brandon, Parker, Mitchell and Sioux Falls. Her last teaching position was at Franklin Elementary in Sioux Falls where she taught third grade. After her retirement, she returned to live in her family home in Irene.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church, where she remained active throughout her life, teaching Sunday school and vacation Bible school. At Calvary Lutheran in Irene, she served as deacon, secretary of Calvary Women, and Circle co-chairwoman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, G. Orion "Luby" Lee, and a sister, Frances Lee Kluver.

Her survivors include three nephews and three nieces: Don Lee, St. Paul, MN; Rebecca Lee, Albuquerque, NM; Nancy Kluver, Mounds View, MN; Andrea Lee, Albuquerque; Kent Kluver, Eau Claire, WI, and Rolf Lee, San Francisco, CA. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Bert Kluver, Rock Rapids, IA; and sister-in-law, Joyce Lee, Albuquerque.

Memorials may be sent to Calvary Lutheran Church, Irene, or Augustana College, Sioux Falls.

Norma Dittman

COLERIDGE, Neb. - Norma Jean Dittman, age 63, of Coleridge, NE died on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at the Golden Living Center in Wausa, NE.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, January 19, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Coleridge with the Rev. John Pietramale officiating. Burial will be at the St. Michael's Cemetery in Coleridge.

Visitation will be on Friday from 6-8:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. at the Church. Visitation will continue on Saturday one hour prior to services at Church. Wintz Funeral Home of Coleridge is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Claude Hofeldt, Wayne Kurtzhals, Gary Neuhalfen, and Jon Polak.

Norma was born on September 9, 1944 at Wynot, NE to Charles "Carl" and Elizabeth Mary (Schulte) Goeden. She grew up in the Wynot and Hartington area and graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1962. She moved to Omaha and married Boyd Stuvick on February 20, 1965 in Omaha. He died on January 30, 1966. Norma returned to Hartington and was married to Val Dean Dittman on August 19, 1967 in Hartington. They made their home in Coleridge until Val Dean was killed in an auto accident on February 2, 1977. Norma then went back to school and received her LPN Degree from Norfolk Community College in 1979. She worked at Osmond General Hospital, Park View Haven Nursing Home in Coleridge, and the Hartington Nursing Center until retiring in 1986 due to complications from multiple sclerosis. She entered Park View Haven Nursing Home in 1991, the Wayne Care Center in 1993, and has been a resident of the Golden Living Center in Wausa since 1998.

Norma was a member of the St. Michael's Catholic Church and Choir, and was a former EMT for Coleridge. She loved to read and listen to music. Norma was a devoted mother who always put her daughters needs first in spite of her illness. She had a very strong faith and accepted, without question, God's plan for her.

Norma is survived by 4 daughters and their husbands; Tammy and Mike Hoffart of Madison, NE, Bethany and Layne Childers of Ogallala, NE, Carla and Chris Wilken of Wausa, Tracy Dittman of LaVista, NE, 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 3 brothers; Richard and Alberta Goeden of LaCrescenta, CA, Bill and Rita Goeden of West Point, NE, Omer and Kay Goeden of Tujunga, CA, 2 sisters; Alice and Richard Metzler of Waterloo, NE, and Lenore and Clarence Hoesing of Hartington, NE.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, a great granddaughter, Ashton Hoffart, and 2 brothers; John and Roger Goeden.
