Angel Rose Cortier
POTATO CREEK - Angel Rose Cortier, infant daughter of Charlene Wounded Head, Potato Creek, and Charles Cortier, Allen, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, in Pine Ridge.
Survivors include her parents; one brother, Asa Wounded Head, Potato Creek; her paternal grandmother, Minerva Bear Killer, Allen; and her maternal grandparents, David and Anita Wounded Head, Potato Creek.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at St. Timothy's Episcopal Cemetery in Potato Creek, with the Rev. Cordelia Red Owl and Orville Reddest officiating.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge is in charge of arrangements.
Phyllis L. Nye
RAPID CITY - Phyllis L. Nye, 73, Rapid City and formerly of Mitchell, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, Elden Nye, Fort Meade; one daughter, Kathy Keffeler, Rapid City; one brother, William Fox, Chamberlain; and two granddaughters.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, with Chaplain Moe Greiner officiating.
Lyle H. Haug
BRYANT - Lyle H. Haug, 83, Bryant, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at Royal C. Johnson Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Haug, Bryant; four sons, Dale Haug, Alexandria, Minn., Arden Haug, Fort Worth, Texas, Reed Haug, Custer, and Kendal Haug, Rapid City; one brother, Roger Haug, Willow Lake; five sisters, Grayce Herron and Avis Hartung, both of Huron, Lucille Vastola, Reseda, Calif., Marlyce Peterson, Willow Lake, and Marlene Lamb, Vienna; 13 grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
He served in the U.S. Army from Oct. 20, 1939, to Jan. 5, 1945.
Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 10, at Osthus Funeral Home in Bryant, and for one hour before services, which will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bryant with the Rev. Fred Rosin officiating.
Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
Leeann Ellen Phillips
RAPID CITY - Leeann Ellen Phillips, 46, of Rapid City, died January 3 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Leeann was born October 26, 1955, and joined with Philip Thompson to become the second child of Ila and Charles Thompson of Pickstown, S.D.
The Thompsons soon moved to the Black Hills, where Leeann spent her childhood between Keystone, where all members of the family worked at their souvenir shop, and Rapid City.
At age 9, Leeann was afflicted with diabetes, the many complications of which she fought with courage, humor and an unvanquished zest for life.
In 1986, she married Natt Phillips of Rapid City in Sundance, Wyoming. The couple lived in Newell for a short time before moving back to Rapid City in 1988.
She enjoyed travel, her garden and animals of all kinds.
Survivors include her husband, Natt; her brother, Philip Thompson of Rockville, Minn.; her grandmother, Meta Shiftlet of Fort Pierre; and many caring aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorial services will be Saturday, January 12, 2002, at 1 p.m. at First Christian Church.

Bruce Urquhart
RAPID CITY - Bruce Urquhart, 49, Rapid City and formerly of Pierre, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, in Rapid City.
Survivors include his mother, Kathryn Urquhart, Pierre, and one brother, Craig Urquhart, Pierre.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at Faith Lutheran Church in Pierre.
Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Pierre.

Mary Ellen Finnegan
RAPID CITY - Mary Ellen Finnegan, 88, Rapid City, died at her residence Sunday, January 6, 2002.
Survivors include her husband, F. Bernard Finnegan, Rapid City; two sons, Jim Finnegan and his wife, Jeanne, and the Reverend Terence Finnegan, all of Phoenix; a daughter, Mary Agnes Weeldreyer and her husband, Steven, Appleton, Wisconsin; grandchildren, James, Dan, John and Ann Finnegan and Michael, Ellen and Kathleen Weeldreyer; a brother, Edward McNeary and his wife, Carol, Hastings, Minnesota; and a sister-in-law, Melva McNeary, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister and brother-in-law Margaret and William Oliver; her sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Elmer Sundem; and her brother James McNeary.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. today at Osheim-Catron Funeral Home. A Christian wake service will be held at 7 p.m. today at Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday at Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, with Rev. Brian Christensen as celebrant.
Interment will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
Roy Jahner
HETTINGER, N.D. - Roy Jahner, 76, Hettinger, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Kopp Jahner, Hettinger; six sons, John Jahner and Bill Jahner, both of Hettinger, Ron Jahner, Billings, Mont., Bob Jahner, Rapid City, Ken Jahner, Dickinson, and Gary Jahner, Bonham, Texas; five daughters, Nettie Schumacher, Scranton, Cindy Skogen, Bonham, Mary Wilson, Regent, Janell Meade, Minot, and Renae Carbajal, Denison, Texas; five sisters, Sister Ralph Jahner, Rochester, Minn., Barbara Reisenauer, Mott, Eleanor Wright, Sturgis, S.D., Helen Wieleman, Tacoma, Wash., and Mary Nehl, Watauga, S.D.; 31 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He served in the U.S. Army from Nov. 17, 1943, to March 30, 1944.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Hettinger, and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday, Jan. 11, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hettinger.
A rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. John Mathai officiating.
Burial will be at Hettinger Cemetery.
Genevieve 'Gene Green' Waterland
LEAD - Genevieve "Gene Green" Waterland, 83, Lead, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Survivors include three sons, Jim Green, Pierre, Mike Green, Lead, and Dan Green, Spearfish, and one sister, Pearl Norman, Bellevue, Wash.
Two husbands, Ed Green and Joel Waterland, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, with a 7 p.m.
Christian wake and rosary, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lead.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at the church, with the Rev. William Zandri officiating.
Burial will be at West Lead Cemetery.
Chaput Memorial Chapel of Lead is in charge of arrangements.
Vern H. Roll
NEWCASTLE, Wyo. - Vern H. Roll, 84, Newcastle, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at his home.
Survivors include one son, James Roll, Salida, Colo.; one stepson, Carl McGlaughlin, Newcastle; one stepdaughter, Marian Stickel, Kirbyville, Mo.; and a twin sister, Verna Johnstone, Denver.
His wife, Harriet Roll, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Worden Chapel in Newcastle.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at Worden Chapel, with the Rev. Norm Brotzman and the Rev. Trish Underberg officiating.
Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Newcastle.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Treasa (Werlinger) Feaster
CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Treasa (Werlinger) Feaster, 65 formerly of Sturgis, South Dakota, lived in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
After a stroke in 1995 lived with her daughter, Debora and husband, Brad and family in Edmonds, Washington and the past few years lived with her daughter Diane and husband, Shain Loucks of Fort Collins, Colorado. She died January 1, 2002 in Mesa, Arizona while visiting with her son Jamie and family in Gilbert, Arizona. She was born April 5, 1936 in Vale, South Dakota.
Mrs. Feaster was an operator and secretary for the telephone company for 30 years before retiring in 1995. She worked in Newcastle, Sheridan, then transferred to Cheyenne, Wyoming with the telephone company.
She is survived by two sons, Jamie, and wife, Linda Feaster and family of Gilbert, Arizona, and Rick Feaster of Everett, Washington; two daughters, Debora and husband, Brad Nielsen and family of Edmonds, Washington, and Diane and husband, Shain Loucks of Fort Collins, Colorado. She is also survived by six brothers and two sisters. Brothers are Joe and wife, Erma Werlinger of Sturgis, South Dakota; Lefty (Sebastian) and wife, Theresa Werlinger of Ord, Nebraska; Louie and wife, Pat Werlinger of Caldwell, Idaho; Pius and wife, Doris Ann Werlinger; Jim and wife, Darlene Werlinger of Rapid City, South Dakota; and Tony and wife, Geri Werlinger of Sturgis, South Dakota; and sisters surviving are Mary Ann Powers of Sacramento, California and Francey and husband, Jake Jacobsen of Port Townsend, Washington. Grandchildren surviving are Lauren Nielsen of Edmonds, Washington, and Jodi and Erik Feaster of Gilbert, Arizona. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James K. Feaster on January 30, 1993, her parents, Casmier J. and Mary Ann Werlinger and two sisters, Maggie Rowley and Julia Nemnich.
Vigil for the deceased was held January 4, 2002, at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes and the Funeral Liturgy was held on Saturday, 5 January 2002 in Cheyenne, Wyoming at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Monsignor Gerald Sullivan as the celebrant. Interment was in the Beth El Cemetery, Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Albert M. 'Shep' Ginsbach
BELLE FOURCHE - Albert M. "Shep" Ginsbach died Monday, January 7, 2002, at Fort Meade VAMC following a lengthy fight with emphysema.
He was born on November 30, 1923, on the Nick Fink ranch south of Buffalo, South Dakota, when his mother was unable to reach the hospital due to weather conditions. His parents were Henry B. Ginsbach and Elva Zoe (Cottington) Ginsbach.
He spent his early years on the family ranch south of Redig. He was nicknamed by pioneer rancher Will Ernest as the "Little Shepherd" and has been known as Shep Ginsbach ever since. He survived being struck by lightning while driving a team of horses at an early age.
In 1944, he joined the Army and was trained as an anti-tank gunner, but as he retold the events, by the time he got to Europe, the Germans had run out of tanks, so he was assigned to the infantry. He served under Generals George Patton and Mark Clark and was wounded twice, for which he received the Purple Heart.
After the war, he married Clara Miller, and two sons were born to this marriage, Patrick and Randall. He operated heavy equipment in Alaska, and with his brothers, before going to work for Baroid Industries at Colony, Wyoming, for 22 years. He spent many weekends shearing sheep for local ranchers.
He is survived by his two sons, Pat of Hot Springs, and Randy (Joni) of Belle Fourche; six grandchildren, Frank, Laci, Katherine, Cali, Mary Clair and Alic; his sister, Dorothy Sorenson of Belle Fourche; and his brothers, Gerald Ginsbach of Belle Fourche, and Tom and Jim Ginsbach of Buffalo, South Dakota. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his brother Henry (Bud) and sister Eleanor.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 12, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Belle Fourche, with Father Arnold Kari officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, January 11, at Kline-Frost Funeral Chapel in Belle Fourche.
Norma King
NEWCASTLE, Wyo. - Newcastle resident Norma King, 89, died Monday, January 7, 2002, at Weston County Manor.
Services are tentatively set for Thursday, January 10, at Worden Chapel, 2 p.m.
Norma was born March 12, 1912, at Hader, Nebraska, the daughter of William and Pauline (Marquardt) Degner. She attended school in Nebraska and Minnesota. On July 23, 1932, she married Ivan Earl King.
As a girl Norma's family homesteaded in the Thornton, Wyo., area. She loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener and horsewoman. She supported her husband in his business endeavors. She loved cooking for her family and friends and entertained them often. She loved her family best and especially treasured her grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were both parents, husband Ivan King, three brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include four sons, Loren of Moorcroft, Larry of Worland, Lyle of Newcastle and Robin of Newcastle, and one daughter, Lorna Thomas of Worland; also 14 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Family suggests memorials to Weston County Manor Activities Department.
