SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. - Thomas A. Clark, 72, Scottsbluff, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at Western Nebraska Veterans Home in Scottsbluff.

Survivors include his sister, Margaret Olson, Hemingford; and three brothers, John Clark, Silver City, S.D., Jim Clark, Grants, N.M., and Ed Clark, Alliance.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 9, until 8 p.m. at Bates-Gould Funeral Home in Alliance.

Graveside services, with military rites, will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Bruce Norlin Carl

OMAHA, Neb. - Bruce Norlin Carl, 60, Omaha, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001.

Survivors include his wife, Pat Carl, Omaha; two daughters, Evelyn Gill and Linda Carl, both of Omaha; four stepdaughters, Corinne Reed, Kathy Chiesa, Kris Hembree, and Kelly Castaneda, all of Omaha; his mother, Gladys E. Carl of Rapid City, S.D.; one brother, Fred Carl, Rapid City; two sisters, Barbara Weyer, Osage Beach, Mo., and Peggy Christie, Jesup, Iowa; and 14 grandchildren.

A family memorial service was held Dec. 27, 2001, at Boyd E. Braman Mortuary in Omaha.

Evelyn J. Flasted Wibmer

LEAD — Evelyn J. Flasted Wibmer, 88, Lead, died Jan. 4, 2002, at Kirkwood Manor, Pluma.

Rosary services will be held at 9 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2002, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, in Lead.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2002, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Lead, with Fr. William Zandri as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Deadwood. Visitation will be at the church between the rosary service and mass.

Evelyn J. Flasted was born April 25, 1913, in Ekalaka, Mont., to Ole and Creta (Sutton) Flasted. She grew up in Pineiele, Mont., and graduated from Deadwood High School. In 1936, Evelyn married Louis F. Wibmer, and they made their home in the Lead area. She was a homemaker, and she took pride in her cooking, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She was active in the Moose Lodge, and she enjoyed traveling, and taking care of her grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared in Evelyn's life are one son, Vincent Wibmer, Lead; one daughter, Carolyn (Mrs. Jerry) Boortz, Butler, Ga.; one brother, Everette, (& Jean) Flasted, Alzada, Mont.; two granddaughters, Kimberly Lindsey, Sharon, Conn., and Katherine Gibson, Macon, Ga.; one grandson, Kevin Boortz, Springdale, Ark.; five great-grandchildren, Jayme Kay and Robynne Lindsey, Candler, Gracie and Mattie Boortz; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Lowell and Merle Flasted, and three sisters, Hazelle Johnson, LaVerne Sanders, and Beverly Wright.

A memorial has been established for the Twin City Animal Shelter, Lead.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Fidler Funeral Chapel of Lead.

Clarence Ralph Kroth

HAVENSVILLE, Kan. — Clarence Ralph Kroth, 90, Havensville and formerly of western South Dakota, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at Golden Acres Nursing Center in Onaga.

He served in the U.S. Army and Naval Reserve.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be today and Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Tessendorf-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Onaga, and before services at the church. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Bucks Grove United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Bucks Grove Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to Bucks Grove United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.

Mary E. Finnegan

RAPID CITY — Mary E. Finnegan, 88, Rapid City, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at her home.

Survivors include her husband, F. Bernard "Barney" Finnegan, Rapid City; two sons, Jim Finnegan and the Rev. Terence Finnegan, both of Phoenix; one daughter, Mary Agnes Weeldreyer, Appleton, Wis.; one brother, Edward L. McNeary, Hastings, Minn.; and seven grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home in Rapid City.

Floyd I. Phillips

SPEARFISH — Floyd I. Phillips, 87, Spearfish, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, in Spearfish.

Survivors include his wife, Faye Phillips, Spearfish; one daughter, Carol Wilson, Casper, Wyo.; five grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending with Carlsen & Aldinger Funeral Home in Spearfish.

Cheryl Lynn Ice

BEULAH, Wyo. — Cheryl Lynn Ice, 58, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at her home in Beulah, Wyo.

Cheryl Lynn Ice was born the second daughter to Randall and Larue Ice in Belle Fourche, S.D., on Aug. 20, 1943. In 1947, Randall and Larue were killed in a plane crash, and the girls were adopted by Chuck and Hazel Ice. She graduated from Spearfish High School in 1961. She later became a fashion model in Dallas, Texas. She met her first husband and moved to Dothan, Ala. After her injury and paralysis, the marriage dissolved. After rehabilitation, she attended college, at Mobile, Ala., and graduated with honors in Computer Science. She was employed by the City of Dothan. She later moved to Westminster, S.C., then to Des Moines, Iowa. Her childhood sweetheart, Bill, then contacted her. Eventually, she moved to Beulah, Wyo. She and Bill had seven years together before her death.

Cheryl was cheerful, happy, funny, beautiful and loving, and loved by many.

She is survived by her life partner, Bill Shepperson, of Beulah, Wyo.; his mother, Mary of Beulah, Wyo., and his children, Casey Shepperson of Black Hawk, S.D., Cody Shepperson of Rapid City, S.D., Debbie Shepperson of Black Hawk, S.D., and Vanessa Truman, Minn.; her sister Vernelle "Sam" Ice Armstrong of Spearfish, S.D.; nieces Cynda Clevenger of Arvada, Colo., and Kristi Houghtaling of Des Moines, Iowa; nephews, Scott Armstrong of Monterey, Calif., and Chuck Armstrong of Waukee, Iowa; several cousins, great-nieces and nephews. Uncles and Aunts include Ernest Leitner of Aladdin, Wyo., Howard and Jane Ice of Beulah, Wyo., and Cecil and Marge Ice of Pierre, S.D.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, John and Pearl Leitner, Orley and Fay Loughlin, and Clyde Ice; parents Randall and Larue Ice and Chuck and Hazel Ice.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at the United Church of Christ in Spearfish with Rev. Mel Miller officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

Visitation will be at the Carlsen & Aldinger Funeral Home in Spearfish, Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and one hour before the service at the church.

Memorials may be given to the Disabled American Veterans.

The Carlsen & Aldinger Funeral Home of Spearfish is entrusted with arrangements.

Violet Snodgrass

PRESHO — Violet Snodgrass, 89, Presho, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at Presho.

Survivors include two daughters, Joan Brinckmeyer, Presho, and Linda Goltz, Gibson City, Ill.; one son, Gary Snodgrass, Jenson Beach, Fla.; one sister, Edna Christensen, Pierre; one brother, Alvin Werner, Oacoma; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent "Bink" Snodgrass.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service, today at Isburg-Hofmeister Funeral Chapel in Presho. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at United Methodist Church in Presho. Burial will be at Presho City Cemetery.

Ronald L. Lakson

SPEARFISH — Ronald L. Lakson 80, Spearfish and formerly of Lead, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at Lookout Memorial Hospital in Spearfish.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte, Spearfish; two nephews, Ross Franklin, Seattle, Wash., and Randy Franklin, Brookings; and two nieces.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

There will be no visitation. Services and burial with military honors will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Chaput Memorial Chapel in Lead is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established to the Heart Fund.

Lee Ann Phillips

RAPID CITY — Lee Ann Phillips, 46, Rapid City, died Thursday Jan. 3, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, Natt Phillips, Rapid City; and one brother, Philip Thompson.

Arrangements are pending with Behrens Funeral Home in Rapid City.

Evelyn Wibmer

LEAD — Evelyn Wibmer, 88, Lead, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at Kirkwood Manor.

Survivors include one son, Vincent Wibmer, Lead; one daughter, Carolyn Boortz, Butler, Ga.; one brother, Everette, Flasted, Mont.; and five grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending with Fidler Funeral Chapel in Lead.

Theodore Ira Spaulding

HURON — Theodore Ira Spaulding, 88, Huron, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at his home.

He was a retired brigadier general for the South Dakota Army National Guard.

Survivors include his wife, Ardes, Huron; two daughters, Deborah Lincoln, Fredericksburg, Va., and Rebecca Freeman, Huron; two sons, T. Mark Spaulding, Lacey, Wash., and Matthew Spalding, Chester, Va.; two brothers, Thomas Spalding, McClean, Va., and John C. Spalding, Huron; one sister, Donna Knudson, Killdeer, N.D.; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at Kuhler Funeral Home, and before services at the church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at First United Methodist Church in Huron, with the Rev. George Parmeter and the Rev. Richard Rinearson officiating. Burial, with military rights provided by 153rd Eng. Bn, S.D. National Guard, will be in the spring at Union Cemetery in Sherwood, N.D.

Duane Hartl

SUNDANCE, Wyo. — Duane Hartl, 70, Sundance, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, Jan. 6, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sundance, from 3 p.m. until the Rosary Service at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 7, at United Methodist Church in Sundance, with the Rev. Bruce R. Clapham officiating.

Burial, with military honors, will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.

A memorial has been established to the Sundance Ambulance Service.

Duane was born Nov. 1, 1931, at Rapid City, S.D., to Herman Alfred and Janetta Belle (Fillingham) Hartl. He grew up in Sturgis, S.D., graduating from Sturgis High School in 1950. He enlisted in the Air Force in January 1951 and served until his discharge in November of 1954.

On Dec. 29, 1953, Duane married Joyce M. Best at Cutbank, Mont. He graduated from Black Hills State Teachers College in 1958 and received his Master's Degree from the University of Wyoming in 1969. He taught school in Sundance from 1958 until 1975. He then worked as accountant at Tri County Electric until retiring on Jan. 7, 1994. Duane continued doing taxes up until his death.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and playing cards. His eight grandchildren were a very important part of his life.

Duane was a Life Member of the V.F.W., the American Legion and was a charter member of the Lions Club in Sundance.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of Sundance; two sons, Joe Hartl, Findlay, Ohio, and Stephen Hartl, Sundance; one daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Gerry Granahan, Loveland, Colo.; a brother, Vincent Hartl, Spearfish; and eight grandchildren, Stephanie Hartl, Drew Hartl, Trevor and Tyler Hartl, Tim Granahan, Erin Granahan, Kody Hartl and Kelly Hartl.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Theckla Harrison and Opal Ogle.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Carlsen & Aldinger Funeral Home of Spearfish.

Joella Sprayberry

RAPID CITY — Joella Sprayberry, 64, Rapid City and formerly of Gillette, Wyo., died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at Meadowbrook Manor in Rapid City.

Survivors include her mother, Ruth Greathouse, Arcadia, Calif.; two daughters, Elizabeth Matti, Deadwood, and Rhonda Sprayberry, Casper, Wyo.; two sons, Calvin Yockey, Black Hawk, and Steven Sprayberry, Gillette; two sisters, Jenelle Schott and Cherianne Atzbach, both of Denver; one brother, Dr. Hugh E. Greathouse, Arcadia; and six grandchildren.

In keeping with Joella's wishes, private family services will be held at a later date.

Fidler Funeral Chapel in Spearfish is in charge of arrangements.

Harold J. Monroe

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Harold J. Monroe, 77, Gainesville, Fla., died Dec. 29, 2001, at the Veterans Affairs Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Pam Monroe, Gainesville; two daughters, Melody J. Monroe, Atlanta, Ga., and Marci J. Monroe, Gainesville; and twin granddaughters.

There will be a Memorial Service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, at United Churches in Hot Springs, S.D.
