James Maynard Koch

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - James Maynard Koch, 82, Colorado Springs and formerly of Custer, S.D., died Monday, April 22, 2002, at Pikes Peak Hospice in Colorado Springs.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Koch, Colorado Springs; one daughter, Cara Beth Wrede, Colorado Springs; one son, Ronald Koch, Lugano, Switzerland; and one grandson.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 27, at Nolan Funeral Home in Colorado Springs.

Dina Bassett

RAPID CITY - Dina Bassett, 74, Rapid City, died at the Rapid City Regional Hospital Wednesday, April 24, 2002.

Dina Bauer was born at Artas, S.D., on Dec. 2, 1927, to Conrad and Wilhelmina (Schmidt) Bauer. She attended rural school and graduated from Eureka, S.D., High School. Following graduation she attended Northern State Teachers College and taught rural schools in Campbell County. She also worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. In 1950 she married Calvin Brandner at Zelland, N.D. To this union were born three sons, Steven Cal, Ricky Lee and Kenneth Wayne. The family resided in Selby, S.D.

Dina married Robert Blumhardt at Eureka in August of 1965. They made their home in Rapid City, where Dina was employed at Rushmore Mutual Life Ins. Co. for a number of years. In January of 1983 she married Calvin Bassett and they continued to reside in Rapid City. Following Calvin's death she moved to the Alps Apartments, and for the past six months she has made her home at Primrose Assisted Living.

Survivors include a son, Steven Brandner, and his special friend, Hermina Martinez, Elko, Nevada; two stepdaughters, Diane Steichen and her husband John, White Lake, S.D., and Barbara Simpson and her husband Kenneth, White Lake, S.D.; seven stepgrandchildren; five brothers, Walter Bauer and his wife Helen, Valley City, N.D., Ruben Bauer and his wife Shirley, Artas, S.D., Benjamin Bauer and his wife Jo, Edina, Minn., Harold Bauer and his wife Helena, Rapid City, and Leo Bauer and his wife Helengrace, Minneapolis, Minn.; a sister, Bernice Orth and her husband Ervin, Rapid City; two sisters-in-law, Violet Bauer, Eureka, and Frances Bauer, Salem, Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Calvin Brander, Robert Blumhardt and Calvin Bassett; her sons, Ricky Lee and Kenneth Wayne Brandner; and a stepson, Jimmy Bassett.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with Rev. Douglas Free officiating. Interment will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Irma Virginia Pigg

PIERRE - Irma Virginia Pigg, 91, Pierre, died Monday, April 22, 2002, at her home.

Survivors include three sons, Victor Pigg, Bruno, Ark., Elmer Pigg, White River, and Earl Pigg, St. David, Ariz.; two daughters, Phyllis Castle, Columbus, Kan., and Rubymae Astleford, White River; one brother, Harold Sehestedt, Joshua Tree, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Charles Jacob Pigg, preceded her in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 26, at Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall in Pierre.

Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at White River Cemetery.

Isburg-Hofmeister Funeral Chapel of Pierre is in charge of arrangements.

Virginia Christensen

HOT SPRINGS - Virginia Christensen, 80, Hot Springs, died Wednesday, April 24, 2002, at Castle Manor Nursing Home in Hot Springs.

Survivors include one daughter, Lesly Bennett, Hot Springs.

Arrangements are pending with Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel of Hot Springs.

Jule Yvonne Trode (Boxeth)

CUSTER - Jule Yvonne Trode (Boxeth), 63, died April 23, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday, April 26, 2002, at the Custer Community Church in Custer, with Rev. Keith Ballinger officiating.

A second memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2002, at the Mitchell Congregational Church in Mitchell, SD., with Rev. Jim Schatz officiating.

Jule was born on June 5, 1938, in Bowman, North Dakota to Ervin and Gertrude (Klug) Boxeth. In 1956, she graduated from Mitchell Senior. She also attended Dakota Wesleyan University. On March 7, 1959, she married Thomas Trode in Fort Dodge, Iowa. To this union three children were born. They made their homes in Mitchell, South Dakota, until 1985, they then moved to Custer, South Dakota.

Jule dedicated her life to serving the public in various businesses in Mitchell and Custer. Jule touched so many lives in her most unique way.

She is survived by her husband Tom of Custer; daughter Lynette and husband Shane of Forestburg, S.D.; son Shane and his wife Shari of Sheridan, Ore.; daughter LaRae of Rapid City, S.D.; one sister; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and one stepsister and stepbrother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, two brothers-in-law, and her father-in-law.

The family requests memorials to be made to Tom Trode.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel in Custer.

Toni Jo Eberle

EDGEMONT - Toni Jo Eberle, 54, Edgemont, died Monday, April 22, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, George Eberle, Edgemont; one son, Kevin Eberle, Fort Hood, Texas; one daughter, Valeri Eberle, Broomfield, Colo.; her father, Charles Ludington, Rapid City; two brothers, David Ludington, Hot Springs, and Charles F. Ludington, Rapid City; one sister, Pat Nichols, Alton, Kan.; and four grandchildren.

A rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. today, followed by a 7 p.m. Christian wake service, at St. James Catholic Church in Edgemont.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 26, at the church, with the Rev. Peter Kovarik officiating.

Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel of Hot Springs is in charge of arrangements.

Linda Carol White

CHADRON, Neb. - Linda Carol White, 54, Chadron, died Monday, April 22, 2002, at her home.

Survivors include her husband, Melvin White, Chadron; three sons, Melvin White and Will White, both of Chadron, and Larry White, Black Hawk, S.D.; her father, Lyle Wulf, Rapid City, S.D.; one brother, Richard Wulf, Rapid City; one sister, Alice Meyers, Rapid City; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 26, at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron, with the Rev. Craig Collins officiating.

Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery.

A memorial has been established.

Howard Spellman

GREGORY - Howard Spellman, 86, Gregory and formerly of Winner, died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at Rosebud Country Care Center in Gregory.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Spellman, Gregory; one son, Rick Spellman, Winner; one daughter, Elizabeth Spellman, North Platte, Neb.; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Mason Funeral Home in Winner.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 26, at United Methodist Church in Winner.

Burial will be at Winner Cemetery.

Albert Gene Burr

LEAD - Albert Gene Burr, 64, Lead, died Monday, April 22, 2002, at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Burr, Lead; his mother, Rose Dunn, Sturgis; two sons, Kevin Eugene

Burr, Evergreen, Colo., and Kerry Burr, Orange Park, Fla.; one daughter, Kimberly Bynote, Omaha, Neb.; one brother, Edgar Burr, Spearfish; and six grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, April 26, with a 3:15 p.m. prayer service, at Chaput Memorial Chapel in Lead, with the Rev. William Zandri officiating.

Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery near Lead.

A memorial has been established.

Richard J. Matush

SPOKANE, Wash. - Richard J. Matush, 68, Spokane, died Thursday, April 4, 2002, at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Matush, Spokane; two daughters, Deborah Kenaston, Rapid City, S.D., and Monika Matush, Hill City, S.D.; one son, Michael Matush, Hendersonville, Tenn.; one stepdaughter, Tina Callahan; one brother, Eddie Matush, Madison, Wis.; three sisters, Nancy Ryan, Judy Riddle and Sue Olson, all of Madison; his mother, Edna Matush, Madison; three grandchildren; and two stepgranchildren.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1972.

Services were held Friday, April 19, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Spokane.

Thornhill Valley Funeral Home of Spokane was in charge of arrangements.

Ralph Wesley Quinn

SPOKANE, Wash. - Ralph Wesley Quinn, 81, Spokane and formerly of South Dakota, died Saturday, April 13, 2002, at Spokane Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Ella Jo Quinn, Spokane; one daughter, Carmel Jette, Richland, Wash.; one son, Curtis Quinn, Spokane; three grandchildren; one sister, Mae Moravec; and one brother, Neil Quinn.

He served in the U.S. Army from fall 1943 to October 1946.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday, April 28, and from 8 a.m. until service time Monday, April 29, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel, with the Rev. Harold Brink officiating.

Burial with military honors will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Memorials may be made to Whitewood Presbyterian Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Joyce Williams

BELLE FOURCHE - Joyce Williams, 79, Belle Fourche, died Monday, April 22, 2002, at Fort Meade Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Sturgis.

Survivors include her husband, Roy Williams, Belle Fourche; four sons, Arlind Williams, Watertown, George Williams, Belle Fourche, Harry Williams, Dora, Mo., and Ernest Williams, Custer; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Ernest Smith, Lompac, Calif.; and one sister, Naomi Olson, Henderson, Nev.

Arrangements are pending with Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche.

Grace Victoria Enberg

SALEM, Ore. - Grace Victoria Enberg, 70, Salem and formerly of Marcus, S.D., died Thursday, April 11, 2002, in Salem.

Survivors include four sisters, Freda Myers and Gayle Hinshaw, both of Stoutland, Mo., Helen Felker, Tucson, Ariz., and Flora Grimsbo, Rickreall, Ore., and one brother, Guy Edwards Jr., Sturgis, S.D.

Her husband, Ronald Enberg, preceded her in death.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 27, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, with the Rev. Howard Smith officiating.

Private family inurnment services will be at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

A memorial has been established to First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis.
