John Kenneth Elmore

SPEARFISH - John Kenneth Elmore, 79, of Spearfish, died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, April 20, 2002, at the Dorsett Health Care Facility in Spearfish.

John was born to James A. and Mary Ethel (Monpleasure) Elmore on May 8, 1922, on the family homestead on the Belle Fourche River east of Sturgis. In 1926 the family moved to a ranch on Chicken Creek, where he attended grade school. He graduated from Spearfish High School in 1941.

After high school, John went to work for the William Thompson family on Red Water. He also stayed on and worked the family place.

He was initiated into the Spearfish Masonic Lodge #18 on November 14, 1958, passed on December 29, 1958 and was raised on February 18, 1959. He was also a member of the Naja Shrine. He served on the building association and was secretary for over 20 years. He was also a member of the Queen City Chapter #89 Order of the Eastern Star, was initiated on April 10, 1962. He served as Marshal in 1968 and from 1971-1972. He was Associate Patron in 1969 and Worthy Patron in 1970 and served as Treasurer for many years.

He is survived by brothers, James F. Elmore of Bullhead City, Ariz., David Elmore of Spokane, Wash., and Dale Elmore of Post Falls, Idaho; sisters, Beverly A. Johnson of Spearfish, Lorraine Ketner of Atlanta, Texas, Joan Hollomon of Longview, Texas, Phyllis Littlefield of Spokane, Wash., and Myrtle Kline of California; numerous nieces and nephews; and very special friends, the Wesley and Hugh Thompson families, who were John's second family.

John was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Walter Jacob Elmore and Paul Duane Elmore; and a sister, Laura Louise Haas.

Our families have been blessed by our beloved "Uncle Johnny," who always smiled and brought joy to all of us, no matter what.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2002, at the Masonic Lodge in Spearfish, with Rev. Tom Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Spearfish. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2002, from noon until 6 p.m. at the Carlsen & Aldinger Funeral Home in Spearfish.

A memorial has been established to the Shrine Crippled Children's Hospital.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Carlsen & Aldinger Funeral Home of Spearfish.

Frank Klug

BELLE FOURCHE - Frank Klug, 72, rural Belle Fourche, died Saturday, April 20, 2002, at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Delores Klug, Belle Fourche; three sons, Wayne Klug, Danville, Ind., Neil Klug, Cave Creek, Ariz., and Paul Klug, Aurora, Colo.; two daughters, Ann Tunnicliff, Afton, Iowa, and Lynn Castillo, Meridian, Idaho; 10 grandchildren; and two brothers, Bob Klug and Jim Klug, both of Omaha, Neb.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, at Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche, and for one hour before services Thursday, April 25, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Belle Fourche.

A Christian wake service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Burial with full military honors will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

A memorial has been established.

Marilyn Alice Adams

PINE RIDGE - Marilyn Alice Adams, 68, Pine Ridge, died Friday, April 19, 2002, in Pine Ridge.

Survivors include two sons, Cameron Adams and George Adams, both of Oglala; three daughters, Jennifer Adams-Chineworth, Chicago, Camille Adams, Cheyenne, Wyo., and Effie Adams-Means, Oglala; three sisters, Norma Two Bulls, Betty Sanders and Joan Two Bulls-Decker, all of Oglala; and 12 grandchildren.

A two-night wake will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, at Brother Rene Catholic Hall in Oglala.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at Brother Rene Hall, with the Rev. Bill Pauly officiating.

Burial will be at Seventh-day Adventist Cemetery in Red Shirt Table.

Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth L. Collings

HURON - Ruth L. Collings, 70, Huron, died Sunday, April 21, 2002, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Survivors include her husband, Everett Collings, Huron; three sons, Jim Collings, Boise, Idaho, Tom Collings, Black Hawk, and Jeff Collings, Corvallis, Ore.; two daughters, Barbara Harvey, Boise, and Margaret Powers, Flandreau; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, James Reilly, Lake Tomahawk, Wis.

Visitation will be this afternoon and evening, with a 7 p.m. Scripture service, at Welter Funeral Home in Huron.

Visitation will continue before services, which will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, at Church of the Resurrection in Huron, with the Rev. Jim Zimmer officiating.

Burial will be at St. Martin's Cemetery in Huron.

Memorials may be made to Children's Care Hospital and School in Sioux Falls.

Carolyn Korthals

RAPID CITY - Carolyn Korthals, 78, Rapid City, died Saturday, April 20, 2002, at her home.

Survivors include one daughter, Julienne Jones, Martin; one brother, E.F. Wollman, Everett, Wash.; one sister, Ann McKeaigg, Clinton, Okla.; her beloved companion, Charles Heathershaw, Scenic; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time, which will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Campbell, Paula & Quinn Funeral Chapel in Rapid City, with the Rev. Bruce Herrboldt officiating.

Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Frank Klug

BELLE FOURCHE — Frank Klug, 72, rural Belle Fourche, died Saturday, April 20, 2002, at his home.

Clifford Watts

RAPID CITY — Clifford Watts, 74, Rapid City, died Sunday, April 21, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Watts, Rapid City; four children, Mollie Pettigrew, Rapid City, Janet Calvert, St. Cloud, Minn., Craig Watts, Petaluma, Calif., and Chris Watts, Milford, Iowa; and eight grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.

Lianne Bachand

STURGIS — Lianne Bachand, 69, Sturgis, died Saturday, April 20, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

Rosary services will be at Kinkade Funeral Chapel on Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, April 24, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Gary Oreshoski officiating. Burial will follow at the Black Hills National Cemetery.

Lianne was born Aug. 11, 1932, at Rapid City, SD, to J.F. "Fritz" and Kathryn (McNenny) Kammerer. She grew up in Piedmont valley and graduated from Rapid City High School in 1950. In high school, Lianne was a 4-H state fashion review winner. She won a trip to Chicago, was a baton twirler, majorette, and later a leader of the Sturgis Stitchers 4-H Club. She also was a judge for different contests in the area and served on the board of the BCCC and Key City Women's TeaTime Bowling League. She modeled in style shows and was active in Jaycettes. She belonged to and played in the Catttlewomen's Bridge Marathon and several other bridge clubs. Lianne delivered her delicious cinnamon rolls to family and friends at Christmas time.

She married Donald Bachand in Rapid City on Aug. 30, 1952. The couple moved to Chicago where they lived for two years while Don attended dental school at Loyola University. They lived in England where Don served in the U.S. Air Force as a dentist after which they returned to Sturgis.

Lianne was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Altar Society and St. Patricia's Circle and was an active homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Donald Bachand, Sturgis; three sons and their spouses, Donald Bachand, Jr. and Sandie, Vacaville, CA, Hunter Bachand, and Linda, Federal Way, WA, and Bryan Bachand, and Julie, Brooklyn Park, MN; two daughters, Barbara Czerwinski, and her husband, Chris, Omaha, NE, and Lynn Bachand, Spearfish; one brother, Alfred "Lefty" Kammerer and his wife, Shirley, Piedmont; two sisters, Pauline Guffey, Rapid City, and Lorraine Kammerer, Rapid City; and four grandchildren, Andrew Czerwinski, Matthew Schiltz, Emily Bachand and Blake Bachand.

Her parents and one sister, Patty Roth, preceded her in death.

A memorial has been established to St. Patricia's Circle.

Floyd Kietzmann

PIERRE — Floyd Kietzmann, 77, Pierre, died Thursday, April 18, 2002, at Beverly Healthcare Center in Pierre.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Kietzmann, Pierre; two daughters, Linda Morgan, Holloway, Ohio, and Lois Downey, Livermore, Calif.; one son, Donald Kietzmann, Rochester, Minn.; one brother, Glenn Kietzmann, Pierre; one sister, Agnes Strothers, El Cajon, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service, today at Feigum Funeral Home in Pierre. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, at Faith Lutheran Church in Pierre. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Blunt.

Arthur Sigler

RAPID CITY — Arthur Sigler, 76, Rapid City, died Sunday, April 21, 2002, at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Sigler, Rapid City; two sons, David Sigler, Atlanta, and Ian Sigler, Rapid City; and one daughter, Yvonne Morris, San Francisco.

Arrangements are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.

John Thomas ‘Tom' Walsh

RAPID CITY — John Thomas (Tom) Walsh, 96, Rapid City, died at home Saturday, April 20, 2002.

He was born August 7, 1905, to Thomas Hugh and Charlotte (Williscroft) Walsh in Castlewood, SD. Tom married Helen Jean Mall on August 1, 1942, in Rapid City.

Tom graduated from high school in Watertown, SD. He earned a BS in electrical engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology in 1929, and did post-graduate work at Northwestern University in Chicago. He lived in Chicago and worked for Western Electric from 1929-1934. He returned to Rapid City and was an employee of Mort Crockett Men's Wear, purchasing an interest in the business in 1939. Tom joined the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1942 and served as a civil engineer in Alaska in 1942-43. Eventually, he became the owner of Mort Crockett Men's Wear, purchasing the business in 1948, changing the name to Walsh Men's Wear. Tom sold his business in 1974 to become, as he termed it, "a flunky."

Tom has been a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish since its inception in 1962, and has belonged to the Knights of Columbus. His civic duties include the Chamber of Commerce, of which he was president in 1961. He also served as member and chairman on the Rapid City Planning Commission, member and president of the Rapid City Rotary Club, and member and president of the SDSM&T alumni association. He was a charter member and board member of Arrowhead Country Club.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, and 4 brothers: Basil, Mark, Harold, and Ambrose (Pete). He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen Jean; his children: son, John Walsh of Novato, California; daughter, Jane Walsh and her daughter, Heidi Brink of San Jose, California; and by daughter Kathleen and her husband, Ron Snyder of Canon City, Colorado, and her six children: Leon Mack and his wife Carleen and their sons Cameron, Shawn, Seth, and Caleb; Marc Mack and his wife Michelle and their children Aleigha, Ashlynn, Austin, Aaron, Alex, Arica, and Aydan, and Bruce Mack, all of Watertown; Bartley Mack and his daughters Alexis and Kylie, Gerard Mack and his wife Jennifer and their children Lauren, Morgan, and Steven of Gilbert, Arizona, and Miriam Mack O'Connor and her husband Ed and their children Meghan, Katie, Shannon, McKayla, Chase, Erin, and Ellie of Sioux Falls, SD. He is also survived by his youngest brother, Charles Walsh and his wife, Cabbie, of Wells, Nevada, and by his favorite sister-in-law, Margie Mall of Sioux Falls, SD.

Visitation will be from 3 PM until 5 PM today at the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. today at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1:00 PM Tuesday at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help with Rev. Brian Christensen and Msgr. William O'Connell concelebrating.

Interment will be at the Pine Lawn Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Endowment Fund.

Carolyn Korthals

RAPID CITY — Carolyn Korthals, 77, Rapid City, died Saturday, April 20, 2002, at her home.

Survivors include one daughter, Julienne Jones, Martin; one brother, E.F. "Manny" Wollman; and one sister, Ann McKeaigg, Clinton, Okla.

Arrangements are pending with Campbell, Paula & Quinn Funeral Service in Rapid City.

James Michael Elm

STURGIS — James Michael Elm, 40, Sturgis, died Thursday, April 18, 2002, at Sturgis.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Kip Roozen officiating. Inurnment will be held at the St. Onge Cemetery following the memorial services.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Murphy; his wife, Sherri Elm; stepdaughter, Ashley Roush; two sons, Jonathan Elm and Brian Elm; one brother, Philip Elm; two nieces, Chelsey and Shelby Elm; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leo Elm; his stepfather, Jack Murphy; his grandparents; and cousin, Luke Anderson.

John Thomas ‘Tom' Walsh

RAPID CITY — John Thomas "Tom" Walsh, 96, Rapid City, died Saturday, April 20, 2002, at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Jean Walsh, Rapid City; one son, John Walsh, Novato, Calif.; and two daughters, Kathleen Mack Snyder, Canon City, Colo., and Jane Walsh, Campbell, Calif.

Arrangements are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home in Rapid City.
