Alice Mullenix

STURGIS — Alice Mullenix, 91, Sturgis, died Friday, April 19, 2002, at Wesleyan Health Care Center in Rapid City.

Survivors include two daughters, Marlene Roe, Hereford, Texas, and Pat Wehner, Rapid City; half sister, Marvell Sabor of Minnesota; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today, and from 8 a.m. to time of services Monday, April 22, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Howard Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Bear Butte Cemetery.

A memorial has been established to the Presbyterian Church in Sturgis and the Sturgis Senior Citizens.

Ted Emmett McInerney

SUNDANCE, Wyo. — Ted Emmett McInerney, 69, Sundance, died April 18, 2002, at Lookout Memorial Hospital, Spearfish.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, at the Old High School Gymnasium in Sundance, with Rev. Harold Delbridge officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

A memorial has been established for Crippled Children's Fund.

Ted Emmett McInerney was born in Lead, S.D., on June 23, 1932, to Paul Emmett McInerney and Angnes Catherine Browkaw. He was raised at the family ranch near O'Neil Pass, S.D. He graduated from St. Onge and then attended college in Springfeild, S.D. Ted first worked for F.L. Thorpe making Black Hills Gold before attending auctioneers school in Billings, Mont. He returned to Spearfish where he owned and managed the Wagon Wheel Bar.

In 1964, Ted married Berniece Raschka. They had two children, Teddi Kay (Essink) and Brian Emmett. Ted then moved to Lake Tahoe where he worked as a Pit Boss for Harvey's Casino.

In 1975, Ted's second marriage was to Lois Schuelke-Haines. They began their life together in Spearfish, S.D., where they owned and operated an antique store. Many people enjoyed the custom-made wagon wheel furniture he created. In 1980, Ted and Lois built a home outside of Sundance. Ted began a cattle guard business that he operated out of his home until the time of his passing.

Ted enjoyed hunting, playing cards, collecting antiques, taking long drives through the beautiful Black Hills visiting with family and friends and watching the newspapers for the occasional mentioning of one of his many grandchildren's accomplishments. He was a long-standing member of the NRCA and NRA.

Ted is survived by his wife Lois; son Brian and wife Michele, and their three children; son-in-law Dan Essink and his three children; stepdaughter Fawne Dennis and her husband, Ronnie, and three children; brothers, Paul and wife Carol McInerney of Spearfish, Gerald and wife Jackie McInerney of Sundance; and sister-in-law Betty McInerney of Sundance. Ted also was survived by stepchildren Jackie and Ed Logan of Hooker, Okla., Mikki and Mikel Brugman of Las Vegas, Nev., Connie and Roger Hawley of Spearfish, Linda Gram of Colorado Springs, Colo., Mike and Holley Haines of Faith, S.D., and Squeak and Roxie Haines of Faith. Ted was blessed with many grand and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother John McInerney, sister Mildred Jagodsinski, brother Bill Foster and his daughter Teddi Essink, and granddaughter Hunter McInerney.

Arrangements have been placed in care of Fidler-Roberts Funeral Chapel, Sundance.

Robert ‘Earl' Miller

APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. — Robert "Earl" Miller, 75, of Apache Junction, Arizona, passed away on April 16, 2002, in Mesa, Arizona. Mr. Miller was born on October 5, 1926, in Ainsworth, Iowa. Earl was the owner of Miller's Market and a manager of a Safeway grocery store. He was a veteran of WWII who served in the United States Marine Corps and received the Purple Heart. Earl Miller is survived by his two daughters, Diana Miller and Eva (Bob) McGlone; a sister, Virginia Beenblossom; and one granddaughter, Lindsey McGlone. Mr. Miller is preceded in death by his first wife, Eunice Miller, mother of Diana and Eva; second wife, Lottie Miller; his parents, Glen and Eva; sister, LaVaughn; and his stepmother, Audra Miller. There are to be no services held, as per Earl's request. Memorial contributions can be made to Black Hills Workshop for the Handicapped, 3650 Range Road, Rapid City, SD 57702.

Edna L. Baker

STURGIS — Edna L. Baker, 85, Sturgis, died Friday, April 19, 2002, at Sturgis Community Health Care Center.

Visitation will be from noon until 9 p.m. today at Kinkade Funeral Chapel.

A Christian prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. today at Kinkade Funeral Chapel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 22, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, with Father Gary Oreshoski officiating. Burial will follow at St. Aloysius Cemetery.

Edna Lucille Kaubisch Baker was the second child of John G. and Anna (Tipton) Kaubisch. She was born on Jan. 4, 1917, near Sturgis and grew up out there, going to the old Eden school through the 8th grade. She went to high school in Sturgis and New Underwood, graduating from Sturgis in 1935.

Edna worked at various things until Sept. 6, 1937, when she married Arnold Baker. They spent a year in Oregon before coming back here and taking over his family farm north of Sturgis. They lived there until 1977, when they bought a home in Sturgis and retired. Edna was always in community affairs and took part in many things out there for neighbors and family.

After retirement, she and Arnold traveled for more than 10 years.

She belonged to the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis, as well as the Sturgis Community Health Care Center, of which she was a charter member, Senior Citizens, cards, etc.

Edna is survived by five children, Marjorie Kurth of Mount Vernon, Iowa, Garnet Simms of Greeley, Colo., Charles "Chuck" and his wife, Judy, of Sturgis, Robert "Bob" and his wife, Carolyn, of Gillette, Wyo.; and Larry and his wife, Maureen, of Winner, S.D.

There are 21 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters. Survivors also include one sister, Crystal Thrift, Vancouver, Wash.; one brother, Dr. Jack Kaubisch, San Jose, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her parents, John and Anna Kaubisch; a daughter, Debbie in 1954; and grandson Clinton Baker in 1995; her husband, Arnold in 1993; and a great-granddaughter, Amanda Baker, preceded her in death in 1999.

A memorial has been established.

Barbara ‘Bobbie' Gossman

LEMMON — Barbara "Bobbie" Gossman, 78, Lemmon, died Friday, April 19, 2002, at Five Counties Nursing Home.

Survivors include three sons, Lloyd Gossman, Ketchikan, Alaska, Frank Gossman, Pittsburgh, and Richard Gossman, Papillion, Neb,; two daughters, Diane Martinez, Harveyville, Kan., and Patti Benson, Lemmon; ex-husband Doyle Gossman and son Stacy Gossman, both of Aberdeen; two sisters, Lorraine Wade, San Jose, Calif., and Evelyn Kirchoff, Sweet Home, Ore.; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, at Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon, and one hour before services at the church. A rosary/vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lemmon. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Dennis Riss officiating. Burial will be at Greenhill Cemetery in Lemmon.

Margaret J. LaCroix

LEAD — Graveside Funeral Services for Margaret J. LaCroix, 84, of Lead, will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. Pastor Gordon Goldammer will officiate.

Margaret died on Thursday, April 18, 2002, at Northern Hills General Hospital in Deadwood.

There will be no visitation. A memorial has been established to Grace Lutheran Church in Deadwood.

Margaret was born December 30, 1917, at Lead, S.D., to William A. and Louisa (Straud) Baldwin. She was married to Harvey LaCroix May 5, 1937, in Deadwood. She worked for McKay Jewelry and the Jack and Jill Food Store.

Margaret attended the Baptist Church in Lead.

Survivors include her son, Ron LaCroix and his wife Sandy of Lead; granddaughter, Lori Aberle of Lead; grandsons, Brad LaCroix and his wife Susie of Newcastle, Wyo., and Darren LaCroix of Lead; and four great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Williams of Whitewood, S.D. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1981, a son, Wayne in 1959, four brothers, and two sisters.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Chaput Memorial Chapel in Lead.

Michael Poznanski

RAPID CITY — Michael Poznanski, 67, Rapid City, died Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Poznanski, Rapid City; three sisters, Jennie Huluk, Sault Saint-Marie, Ontario, Helen Freeman and Julie Hanna, Etobicoke, Ontario; and two brothers, John and Ted, Toronto, Ontario.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, at Bethel Assembly of God Church, with the Rev. Jim Sorem and the Rev. Peter Dahlberg officiating.

Behrens Mortuary in Rapid City is in charge of arrangements.

Andrew John Karnen

MUD BUTTE — Andrew John Karnen, 85, Mud Butte, died Friday, April 19, 2002, at Lookout Memorial Hospital in Spearfish.

Survivors include one brother, Melvin H. Karinen, Belle Fourche; one sister, Dorothy Piper, Glendale, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 3:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, and from 8 a.m. to time of services on Wednesday, April 24, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery in Newell.

Patrick Ernest Red Feather Sr.

RAPID CITY — Patrick Ernest Red Feather Sr., 37, Rapid City, died Mon., April. 15, 2002, in Sioux Falls.

Survivors include his wife, Sheris Red Feather, Rapid City; one son, Patrick Red Feather Jr., Rapid City; one stepdaughter, Tasha Park, Keene, Texas; one brother, Emery Red Feather, Manderson; three sisters, Delavina Red Feather, Porcupine, Rita Running Bear, Pine Ridge, and Margie Sanchez, Alliance, Neb.

Patrick will be cremated and his ashes scattered in the Black Hills. A private service will be held in Rapid City and a memorial prayer meeting will take place at the Native American Church in Porcupine at a later date.

Kirk Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Edward Kenneth Smith

SPEARFISH — Edward Kenneth Smith, 77, Spearfish, died Thursday, April 18, 2002, at Fort Meade Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946.

Survivors include one son, Michael Smith, Sturgis; one daughter, Gail Engler, Deadwood; one brother, Richard Smith of Montana; two sisters, Vera Rosencranz, Broadus, Mont., and Velma Cathey, Laurel, Mont.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, at Black Hills National Cemetery, with the Rev. Moe Greiner officiating. Family and friends may gather at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis before leaving for the cemetery.

John Elmore

SPEARFISH — John Elmore, 79, Spearfish, died Saturday, April 20, 2002, at David M. Dorsett Health Care Facility in Spearfish.

Survivors include three brothers, James Elmore, Bullhead City, Ariz., David Elmore, Spokane, Wash., and Dale Elmore, Post Falls, Idaho; five sisters, Beverly Johnson, Spearfish, Lorraine Ketner, Atlanta, Texas, Joan Hollomon, Longview, Texas, Phyllis Littlefield, Spokane, and Myrtle Kline of California.

Arrangements are pending with Carlsen & Aldinger Funeral Home of Spearfish

Richard A. Tillotson

SALT LAKE CITY — Richard A. Tillotson, 78, Salt Lake City, died Tuesday, April 16, 2002, in Salt Lake City.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945.

Survivors include his wife, Janet, Salt Lake City; one daughter, Donna Blye, Laurel, Mont.; one brother, Don Tillotson, Hot Springs, S.D.; and one stepsister, Emma Rene Malloy, Rapid City.

Memorial services and burial were Friday, April 19, under the direction of Larain Mortuary in Salt Lake City.

Dorothy Marie Stanton

RAPID CITY — Dorothy Marie Stanton, 77, Rapid City, died Thursday, April 18, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include three sons, Jerome Stanton, Naples, Fla., Loren Stanton, Piedmont and Eldon Stanton, Hot Springs; four daughters, Diane Croft and Fern Johnson, both of Rapid City, Brenda Benthin, Wallace, and Cara Grant, Duluth, Minn.; 24 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, April 22, at Carlsen & Aldinger

Funeral Home in Sturgis, and for one hour before services Monday at Fort Meade Historic Post Chapel.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the chapel, with the Rev. Richard Tufte officiating.

Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Memorials may be made to the Rapid City Regional Hospital Dialysis Unit.

Michael Poznanski

RAPID CITY — Michael Poznanski, 67, Rapid City, died Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Poznanski, Rapid City.

Services will be at a later date.

Behrens Mortuary of Rapid City is in charge of arrangements.
