LA MESA, Calif. — Donald J. Dolan, 83, La Mesa and formerly of New Underwood, S.D., died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Miller Dolan, La Mesa; one son; two daughters; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services were Thursday, April 11, in San Diego.

Ted McInerney

SUNDANCE, Wyo. — Ted McInerney, 69, Sundance, died Thursday, April 18, 2002, at Lookout Memorial Hospital in Spearfish, S.D.

Survivors include his wife, Lois McInerney, Sundance; one son, Brian McInerney, Chicago; two stepsons, Mike Haines and Squeak Haines, both of Maurine, S.D.; four stepdaughters, Jackie Logan, Hooker, Okla., Mikki Brugman, Las Vegas, Connie Hawley, Spearfish, and Linda Gram, Colorado Springs,

Colo.; and two brothers, Paul McInerney, Spearfish, and Gerald McInerney, Sundance.

Arrangements are pending with Fidler-Roberts Funeral chapel of Sundance.

Barbara ‘Bobbie' Gossman

LEMMON — Barbara "Bobbie" Gossman, 78, Lemmon, died Friday, April 19, 2002, at Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon.

Arrangements are pending with Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home of Lemmon.

Lawson M. Waters Jr.

PINE RIDGE — Lawson M. Waters Jr., 42, Pine Ridge, died Monday, April 15, 2002, in Sturgis.

Survivors include his mother, Delpha Harris, Milwaukee; one brother, Jerome Waters Sr., Milwaukee; and two sisters, Patricia Waters, Milwaukee, and Tana Waters, Pendleton, Ore.

A one-night wake begin at 3 p.m. Friday, April 19, at Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Billy Mills Hall, with Charles McGaa officiating.

Burial will be at St. Anne's Catholic Cemetery in Wolfcreek.

Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge is in charge of arrangements.

Patty Fischer

HERRICK — Patty Fischer, 53, Herrick, died Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 21, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service, at Clausen Funeral Home in Burke.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 22, at United Methodist Church in Burke.

Burial will be at Herrick Cemetery.

James Michael Elm

STURGIS — James Michael Elm, 40, Sturgis, died Thursday, April 18, 2002, in Sturgis.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Murphy; his wife, Sherri Elm; one stepdaughter, Ashely Roush; two sons, Jonathan Elm and Brian Elm; and one brother, Phillip Elm.

Arrangements are pending with Kinkade Funeral Chapel of Sturgis.

John W. Crowson

HOT SPRINGS — John W. Crowson, 80, Hot Springs, died Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at his home.

Arrangements are pending with Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel of Hot Springs.

George D. LaPlante

RAPID CITY — George D. LaPlante, 78, Rapid City, died Friday, April 19, 2002, at Black Hills Retirement Center.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945.

He was Vice Chairman/Councilman of the Cheyenne Sioux Tribe.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen LaPlante of Rapid City, S.D.; three daughters, Georgia and her husband Marvin Amiotte of Kyle, S.D., Lakota Rose LaPlante of Eagle Butte, S.D., and Aundrea

LaPlante of Rapid City, S.D.; two sons, Tony and his wife Candy LaPlante of Sixes, Ore., and Kelly LaPlante of Rapid City, S.D.; one sister, Virginia LaPlante of Minnesota; two half sisters, Loretta Hart of Aberdeen, S.D., and Elaine Smith of Oregon; two half brothers, Roy Howard of Oregon and Dean Wendt of Mobridge, S.D.; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; special friends of the family, James A. Johnson of Keystone, S.D., and Kim Porter of Rapid City, S.D.; and numerous other good friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Donald Duane

LaPlante; his parents; and his sister, Delores.

Graveside services will be Monday, April 22, 2002, at 10 a.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery, with Father Paul Sneve officiating.

Behrens Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret J. LaCroix

LEAD — Margaret J. LaCroix, 84, Lead, died Thursday, April 18, 2002, at Northern Hills General Hospital in Deadwood.

Survivors include one son, Ron LaCroix, Lead; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ruth Williams, Whitewood.

Her husband, Harvey LaCroix, preceded her in death.

There will be no visitation.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, with the Rev. Gordon Goldammer officiating.

A memorial has been established for Grace Lutheran Church in Deadwood.

Chaput Memorial Chapel of Lead is in charge of arrangements.

Helen Mora Ellard

SUNDANCE, Wyo. — Helen Mora Ellard, 83, Sundance, died Thursday, April 18, 2002, at Crook County Memorial Hospital in Sundance.

Survivors include one son, Terry Wiechert, Sundance; two sisters Margaret White, Carlile, Wyo., and Lois Kennedy, Sundance; and one brother, Jim Bowers, Broadus, Mont.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 21, at Fidler-Roberts Funeral Chapel in Sundance.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 22, at United Methodist Church in Sundance, with the Rev. Ed Bollack officiating.

Burial will follow at Mount Moriah Cemetery in Sundance.

A memorial has been established for Crook County Hospice Care.

Lola J. Wick

RAPID CITY — Lola Joyce Wick died April 18, 2002, at her home. A resident of Rapid City, she was the wife of Chaplain Ned E. Wick. A private cremation service will be held and a memorial service will be conducted at First United Methodist Church in Rapid City on Monday, April 22, 2002, at 10 a.m., officiated by the Reverend R.L. "Dick" Mefford.

Born February 25, 1923, in Arkansas, the daughter of Walter and Aurora (Wall) Wisley, she attended schools and moved to California at an early age. She enrolled in Marin

Junior College and during WWII worked at Hamilton Field. While she worked at the KFRC Radio Broadcasting Corporation she continued fashion modeling with John Robert Powers and various firms in the San Francisco Bay area.

She married Ned Wick March 27, 1954, in her home in San Anselmo, California. Ned, a naval officer, served in various commands and she moved with him. She was always active in Wives Clubs and participated in activities, usually as program chairperson. While in Washington, D.C., her membership included the friendship of Pat Nixon and Mamie Eisenhower, with other interesting personalities. Her favorite command was the time they spent in Hawaii.

Following service, they resided in California, where she was a correspondent of the Stockton Record. Later they returned to the Black Hills and Lola went back to work for the government at the Ft. Meade Veterans Affairs Hospital as a medical secretary. She retired in 1992 following a heart attack after 22 years of service.

Lola was a past Queen of the Daughters of the Nile, a past President of her PEO Chapter BR, and member of the Eastern Star for many years. Her other associations were in business in Chamber of Commerce and Tourism boards.

She lived each day of the past nine years as a gift from God. Lola took pleasure in painting and great joy in her two grandsons. Music was a very integral part of Lola's life and she was singing on the day she died.

She will be remembered for her positive approach to life and optimistic "bay area" personality. She always expressed the most important thing in her life was her family. She was an inspiration to them and to all who knew her. Lola had an awesome faith and sense of humor!

She is survived by her husband; one daughter, Nedra L. Wick of Atlanta, Georgia; one son, Gregory N. Wick; daughter-in-law Sandy; two grandson, David and Steven of Rapid City; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend Rebecca Locke of Atlanta.

A memorial has been established to the PEO Sisterhood for women's education projects.

James J. Larsh

WINNER — James J. Larsh, 84, former Rapid City resident, died at a Winner, S.D., nursing home Thursday, April 18, 2002.

He was born April 9, 1918, at Millboro, S.D., the son of John and Nellie (Ross) Larsh. He grew up at Millboro and graduated from high school at Millboro in 1936. He served in the U.S. Army from Feb. of 1942 until Nov. of 1945. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre and was awarded the Purple Heart.

James married Floreine L. Bergen on Oct. 18, 1947, at Norfolk, Nebraska. The couple moved to Igloo, S.D., following their marriage and they were both employed by the Black Hills Ordinance Depot until it was closed. They later moved to Rapid City.

Survivors include seven sisters, Edna McElroy and her husband Bernie, Gregory, S.D., Dorothy Creek and her husband Jack, Indian Springs, Nevada, Ruby Herndon, San Jose, Calif., Hazel Peterson, Pierre, S.D., L. Joyce Larson and her husband Donald, Rapid City, Marvel Pugh and her husband Lloyd, Rapid City, and Barbara Himrich and her husband Meade, Rapid City; a brother, John Larsh Jr., Rapid City; two brothers-in-law, Einar J. Peterson, Winner, S.D., and Jule "Bud" Bergen; and two sisters-in-law, Sylvia Young and Min James.

He was preceded in death by his wife Floreine Larsh in May of 2001, his parents, a sister and a brother.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday at the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home, with Rev. William C. Hibbert officiating.

Interment, with military honors provided by Rushmore VFW Post 1273, will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery.

M.J. ‘Lark' Larkin

RAPID CITY — M.J. "Lark" Larkin, 82, Rapid City, died at his home Wednesday, April 17, 2002.

He was born Dec. 9, 1919, at Baileyville, Kansas, the son of Owen J. and Jane (McNamara) Larkin.

In 1942 he joined the Army Air Corps and became a B-17 pilot and flew over 50 missions from North Africa during WWII. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism.

Lark married Norma Jean Crandall Feb. 9, 1944, in Rapid City.

He was co-owner of Larkin & Jones Appliance Co. until his retirement in 1974.

He was on the Board of Directors of First Federal Savings and Loan, active in the Noon Cosmopolitan Club and on the Board of Directors of the Air & Space Museum at Ellsworth Air Force Base. He was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Church.

Survivors include his wife Jean, Rapid City; one daughter, Linda Morrison and her husband Frank of Rapid City; three grandchildren, John of Rapid City, Mark of Pierre, and Missy of Moscow, Idaho; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday, with a Christian wake service at 6 p.m., at the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday at the Blessed Sacrament Church, with Rev. William Zandri and Rev. Bryan Lane as concelebrants.

Interment, with military honors provided by the Ellsworth Air Force Base Honor Guard and Rushmore VFW Post 1273, will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery.

A memorial has been established.
