Frances D. ‘Frankie' Brown

RAPID CITY — Frances D. "Frankie" Brown, 76, of Rapid City, died on Monday, April 15, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

She was born May 31, 1925, in Arvada, Wyoming, to George J. and Sadie (Norbeck) Werner. She married Lester G. Brown on July 8, 1946, at Gillette, Wyoming. She had lived in Rapid City since 1950 and retired from Northwestern Bell after a lifelong career as a telephone operator.

She is survived by her three children, Ron L. Brown and Bobbi Bloom, both of Rapid City, and Corky L. Brown of Piedmont; one brother, Rupert Werner of Recluse, Wyo.; five sisters, Mary Fowler of Rapid City, Marjorie Honley of Denver, Colo., Avis Waddell of Holyoke, Colo., Patricia Hanford of Worland, Wyo., and Christina Mitchell of Gillette, Wyo.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, George Werner and Tom Werner; two sisters, Lorraine Werner and Cecilia Maitland; and one grandson, Stanley Nachtigall.

A service of celebration of Frankie's life will be held on Friday, April 19, 2002, at

1 p.m. in the Chapel of Light at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City. Inurnment will take place at a later time.

A memorial has been established.

John C. Eisenhauer

UPTON, Wyo. — John C. Eisenhauer, 45, Upton, died Saturday, April 6, 2002, in Salt Lake City.

Survivors include his parents, Del and Jean Eisenhauer, and five brothers, Don Eisenhauer, Bob Eisenhauer, Dick Eisenhauer, Paul Eisenhauer and Mark Eisenhauer.

Services were Monday, April 15, at United Methodist Church in Upton, with the Rev. Rick Clair officiating.

Memorials may be made to Upton's Day Care Center.

Doris Ann Kipena

LEAD — Doris Ann Kipena, 66, Lead, died Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at Northern Hills General Hospital in Deadwood.

Survivors include one son, Gary Kipena, Lead; three sisters, Delores Arionus, Vancouver, Wash., and Marliss Plaggemeyer and Noreen Steffen, both of Lead; two brothers, Ralph Kipena and Robert Kipena, both of Lead; and two grandsons.

Arrangements are pending with Fidler Funeral Chapels of Lead and Spearfish.

Wallace D. 'Wally' Chihak

GARDEN GROVE, Calif. - Wallace D. "Wally" Chihak, 79, Garden Grove and formerly of Brule County, S.D., and Rapid City, died Wednesday, April 10, 2002.

Survivors include one daughter, Cynthia Chihak-Rauth, Del Mar, Calif.; two grandsons; one sister, Lynetta Bowman, Redondo Beach, Calif.; and one brother, Bob Chihak, Sturgis, S.D.

His wife, Madeline Flesia Chihak, preceded him in death.

He served in the U.S. Navy as a dive-bomber pilot from 1944 to 1946.

Gravesite rites with military honors will be at a later date at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Dorothy Hooper Elrod

SIOUX FALLS - Dorothy Hooper Elrod, 81, Sioux Falls and formerly of Sturgis, died Wednesday, April 10, 2002, at Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls.

Survivors include her husband, John Elrod, Sioux Falls; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services were held Monday, April 15, at Miller Funeral Home in Sioux Falls.

Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, at Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis.

Local arrangements are with Carlsen & Aldinger Funeral Home of Sturgis.

Gregory E. 'Greg' Larson

PIERRE - Gregory E. "Greg" Larson, 46, Pierre, died Monday, April 15, 2002, at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Shannon George-Larson, Pierre; two daughters, Meghan Larson and Katie Larson, both of Pierre; his parents, Stanley and Shirley Larson, Ramona; one brother, Mark Larson, Rochester, Minn.; and two sisters, Debbie Mavity, Sioux Falls, and Rhonda Hite, Little River, Texas.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service, at Feigum Funeral Home in Pierre.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Pierre.

Inurnment will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 19, at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Sisseton.

Bluch Lester Fire Thunder Sr.

MANDERSON - Bluch Lester Fire Thunder Sr., 65, Manderson, died Sunday, April 14, 2002, in Manderson.

Survivors include eight daughters, Ingrid One Feather, Leah Fire Thunder and Mary Blue Legs, all of Oglala, Lita Running Hawk, Calico, Luci Running Horse, Marilyn White and Lori Mesteth, all of Pine Ridge, and Phoebe Running Hawk, Porcupine; nine sons, Raymond Stands, Fallon, Nev., Burnell Stands, Bluch Fire Thunder Jr., A.V. Fire Thunder, Rick Josefczyk and Donovan Steele, all of Manderson, Harlen Fire Thunder, Rapid City, Preston Good Voice Flute, Number Four Community, and Ivis Long Visitor Sr., Oglala; 22 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He served in the U.S. Army.

A two-night wake begins at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at Wounded Knee School Gym in Manderson.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 20, at the school gym, with the Rev. Cordelia Red Owl and the Rev. Robert Two Bulls officiating.

Burial will be at St. Mary's Episcopal Cemetery in Grass Creek.

Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge is in charge of arrangements.

Emmett Doyle

BUTTE, Neb. - Emmett Doyle, 94, Butte, died Sunday, April 14, 2002, at St. Anthony's Hospital in O'Neill, Neb.

A rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. today at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Butte.

Visitation will be for one hour before services, which will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 18, at the church.

Burial will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Gregory, S.D.

Clausen Funeral Home of Burke, S.D., is in charge of arrangements.

Landon James Delvaux

HANOVER, Ill. - Landon James Delvaux, 18, Hanover, died Wednesday, April 10, 2002, at home.

Survivors include his parents, Richard and Linda Delvaux, Hanover; one sister, Courtney Delvaux, Hanover; one brother, Tanner Delvaux, Hanover; maternal grandparents, James and Betty Griffiths, Hanover; paternal grandparents, Jim and Arlys Delvaux, Cookeville, Tenn. and formerly of Rapid City, S.D.; paternal great-grandmother, Ursula Delvaux, Cavour, S.D.; one aunt, Deborah Martin, Rapid City; and four uncles, Albert Griffiths, Dwaine Griffiths, Larry Griffiths, and Jeff Griffiths.

Services were held Sunday, April 14, at Hanover United Methodist Church, with burial at the Evergreen Cemetery in Hanover.

A memorial fund has been established.

Isabelle Sitting Up

WANBLEE - Isabelle Sitting Up, 82, Wanblee, died Sunday, April 14, 2002, in Martin.

Survivors include one son, Elmer Red Eyes, Wanblee, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A two-night wake will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at the Wanblee CAP Office.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at Gethsemane Episcopal Church in Wanblee, with the Rev. Dan Makes Good and the Rev. Cordelia Red Owl officiating.

Burial will be at Gethsemane Episcopal Cemetery in Wanblee.

Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge is in charge of arrangements.

Dale J. Magnuson

ROCHESTER, Minn. - Dale J. Magnuson, 58, died Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at the home of his twin brother, Dean, in Rochester.

Dale graduated from Rapid City High School, Class of 1961, and studied at Northern University for four years. Dale served his country in the Vietnam War. Dale was a telemarketer and an avid golfer.

Survivors include his father, Milton Magnuson, Rapid City; his mother, Alice B. Magnuson, Rochester; his brother, Dean Magnuson, Rochester; his two sisters, Rita Pennino, Plymouth, Mass., and Roxy Klein, St. Paul; five nephews; and three nieces.

Memorial services will be held in Fort Snelling, Minn., at a later date.

Arrangements are with the Macken Funeral Home in Rochester.

Beverly B. Hilmer

NEW UNDERWOOD - Beverly B. Hilmer, age 60, of rural New Underwood, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, April 13, 2002, at 11:25 a.m. in the Good Samaritan Center of New Underwood.

Beverly Dingeman Olson Hilmer was born on Aug. 20, 1941, in Rapid City, S.D., the only child of Dan and Mae (Keffeler) Dingeman. She grew up on the family ranch north of Caputa, attending Dawkins rural school in that area and completing high school in Rapid City.

In August 1959 Beverly married Dennis Arthur Olson in Rapid City. They ranched south of New Underwood until Dennis died in 1962. One daughter, Denise, was born to them.

On May 6, 1963, Beverly married Don Hilmer in Laramie, Wyoming. Two children, Sam and Serena, were born to this union. Bev and Don worked the family ranch together south of New Underwood until sudden illness forced Bev to move into the New Underwood Good Samaritan Center in March.

Bev loved being outside on the ranch, riding horses and working with cattle and animals of all kinds. She also loved music and grew up playing for dances with her parents. She passed that talent and love on to her children and eventually grandchildren. Family was very important to her and for many years she devotedly cared for her aging parents. She was an active member of the Church of God, the Black Hills Team Penning Association, the New Underwood Roping Club and the Rapid City Moose Club. She enjoyed writing many letters and cards to others around the world, and until her illness, she volunteered to play music for the residents in the New Underwood Good Samaritan Center.

She is survived by her mother, Mae (Keffeler) Dingeman of rural Caputa; her mother-in-law, Opal Olson of Rapid City; her husband, Don Hilmer of rural New Underwood; daughter, Denise (Olson Hilmer) Volmer and husband Randy of rural Wasta; son, Sam Hilmer and wife Mindy of rural Caputa; daughter, Serena (Hilmer) Rice and husband Alfred of rural New Underwood; and five grandsons, Clay and Zane Volmer, Tyler and Lance Hilmer, and Quirt Rice.

She was preceded in death by her father, Dan Dingeman, and first husband, Dennis Olson.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City and then at the services Wednesday for one hour before services.

Services are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at the New Underwood School Gym, with Minister Waldo Armstrong officiating. Interment will follow at the New Underwood Cemetery.

A memorial has been established to the Caputa Community Center or the New Underwood Cemetery Association.

Chuck Edward Bravo

OGLALA - Chuck Edward Bravo, 18, Oglala, died Saturday, April 13, 2002, in Oglala.

Survivors include his parents, Nazarius and Carol Bravo, Oglala, and four brothers, Rodney Rouillard, Samuel Bravo, Paul Bravo and Jimmy Bravo, all of Oglala.

A two-night wake will begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, at Brother Rene Hall in Oglala.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 19, at Makasan Episcopal Church in Oglala, with the Rev. Asa Wilson and the Rev. Bill Pauly officiating. Dewey Brave Heart will officiate at traditional services.

Burial will be at Makasan Episcopal Cemetery in Oglala.

Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge is in charge of arrangements.
