LEAD — Mary Forster, 71, Lead, died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at Northern Hills General Hospital in Deadwood.

Survivors include four daughters, Lida Buchons, Los Lunas, N.M., Faith Zeglin, Palmdale, Calif., Paula Lee, Whitewood, and Connie Baier, Belle Fourche; two sons, Bob Forster, Riverton, Wyo., and Paul Forster, Lead; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Patty Moe, Omaha, Neb.; and four brothers, Bill Albertson, Tom Albertson and Dan Albertson, all of Omaha, and Don Albertson, Monterey, Calif.

There will be no visitation.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 8, at Chaput Memorial Chapel in Lead, with the Rev. William Zandri officiating.

Inurnment will be at a later date at St. Mary Cemetery in Salem.

A memorial has been established.

Alyce LaVonne Field

PIERRE — Alyce LaVonne Field, 56, Pierre, died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.

Survivors include one daughter, Dawnn Wipf, Aberdeen; four grandchildren; four brothers, Robert Doren, Salt Lake City, Chuck Doren, Rapid City, Otis Doren, Pierre, and Victor Langdeau, Yankton; and three sisters, Patricia Doren-Tobin, St. Cloud, Minn., and Cathy Grubbs and Bev Doren, both of Pierre.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Feigum Funeral Home in Pierre.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 6, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Pierre.

Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Pierre.

Cory James ‘CJ' Peters

FORT MOHAVE, Ariz. — Cory James "CJ" Peters, 23, Fort Mohave, died Saturday, March 30, 2002, in Bullhead City, Ariz.

Survivors include his parents, James and Janie Peters, Fort Mohave, Ariz.; one half brother, Danny Beckler, Tulare, S.D.; and one stepsister, Tammy Loosemore, New Caney, Texas.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel in Hot Springs.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 6, at the funeral chapel, with the Rev. Peter Dahlberg officiating.

Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery near Hot Springs.

Francis Bickle

SPEARFISH — Francis Bickle, 83, Spearfish, died Thursday, April 4, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include two stepsons, Dennis Bobier, Spearfish, and Gene Bobier, Fort Collins, Colo.; one brother, Glenn Bickle, Lawrence, Kan.; and six grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending with Fidler Funeral Chapel of Spearfish.

Eva Schatz

BISMARCK, N.D. — Eva Schatz, 96, Bismarck, died on April 2, 2002, at St. Vincent's Care Center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan. Burial will be in St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. in rural Zeeland, N.D.

Visitation will be at St. Vincent's Care Center from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., with a rosary at 3 p.m., and at Bismarck Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Eva was born on October 3, 1905, in rural Napoleon, N.D., to Matthias and Barbara (Schweitzer) Gross. She attended rural school and assisted her parents in her family farming operation. She married Kasper Schatz at St. Anthony Catholic Church in rural Napoleon on December 29, 1925. They made their home in rural Zeeland, N.D., where they farmed and reared their eight children, retiring in Zeeland in 1968. She enjoyed gardening and flowers. She was a member of Christian Mothers Altar Society. Her hobbies were crocheting and growing flowers. Her husband, Kasper, died in 1988. In 1989 she moved to Marillac Manor in Bismarck, and at the time of her death she resided at St. Vincent's Care Center.

Eva is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Matt Schatz, Pierre, S.D., Leo (Catherine) Schatz, Aberdeen, S.D., Joseph (Julie) Schatz, Mandan, N.D., and Tom (JoAnn) Schatz, Beulah, N.D.; her daughters and sons-in-law, Ida (Joe) Engelheart, Rapid City, S.D., Angela (Al) Mastel, Ellendale, N.D., Barbara Zacher, Fargo, N.D., and Marianne (Walter) Brandner, Dell Rapids, S.D.; her sisters, Elizabeth Aberle, Wishek, N.D., Katie Aberle, Fargo, N.D., Bennadicta Kotta, Roseau, Minn., and Barbara Brendel, Napoleon, N.D.; 20 grandsons; 16 granddaughters; and 57 great-grandchildren.

Eva was preceded in death by her husband Kasper in 1988; two grandsons, Billy Dale Zacher and Lloyd Alan Mastel; granddaughter, Bonita Kay Schatz; her brother John; sister Christine; and son-in-law Al Zacher.

Marvin Lee Red Cloud

PINE RIDGE — Marvin Lee Red Cloud, 34, Pine Ridge, died Monday, April 1, 2002, in Cuny Table.

Survivors include his wife, Heather Janis-Red Cloud; his parents, Verdell and Sylvia Red Cloud, Pine Ridge; three sons, Corbin Red Cloud, Marvin Red Cloud Jr. and Jared Red Cloud, all of Pine Ridge; four brothers, Mike Two Two, Richard Red Cloud and Verdell Red Cloud Jr., all of Pine Ridge, and Leonard Red Cloud, Red Lake, Minn.; and four sisters, Ella Yellow Horse, Linda Red Cloud and Irene Red Cloud, all of Pine Ridge, and Donna Ross, Flandreau.

Two-night wake begins at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 8, at Billy Mills Hall, with the Rev. Bill Pauly, S.J., officiating. Floyd Hand will officiate at traditional services.

Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wounded Knee.

Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth F. Arthur

BALDWIN PARK, Calif. — Ruth F. Arthur, 71, of Baldwin Park, Calif., (formerly of Custer) passed away March 30, 2002, in Baldwin Park, Calif.

Services will be held on Sunday, April 7, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel in Custer, with Pastor Bill Savery officiating, with visitation prior to services.

Graveside services will follow at the Custer Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to Melvin.

Ruth was born November 21, 1930, in Paradise, Kan. She married Melvin E. Arthur in June 1952. They lived in the Brush, Colorado, area before moving to Custer, S.D., in 1961, where they managed the Pleasant Valley Ranch until 1970. She moved to Rapid City, S.D., in 1971, where she worked and attended school, receiving degrees as a Licensed Vocational Nurse, Medical Secretary, and Registered Nurse. She worked for both hospitals in Rapid City, as well as the Veterans Administration Hospital in Sturgis, S.D. She transferred to the VA in Livermore, Calif., in 1981 and retired in 1995.

She leaves behind a daughter, Susan Saenz of Azusa, Calif.; two sons, Elliot Arthur and Keith Nissen, both of Colorado; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three sisters; and one brother.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel of Custer.

Bertha Victoria (Leichtnam) Krier

PRESHO — Bertha Victoria (Leichtnam) Krier, 92, of Presho, S.D., died Sunday, March 31, 2002, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Visitation will be Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church in Presho, followed by a 7 p.m. vigil service and rosary at the church.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Christ the King Catholic Church in Presho.

Burial will be at Holy Angel Cemetery in Presho.

Bertha V. Krier was born on March 29, 1910, in Presho, S.D., to John and Rose (Schneberger) Leichtnam. She was raised on a farm northwest of Presho. On November 3, 1927, she married Albert Krier at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Kennebec. After Albert died on November 18, 1979, she lived with her son Robert near Presho. She was a lifelong member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Presho.

Survivors include her sons, LeRoy and wife DeElda Krier of Presho, S.D., Robert Krier of Presho, S.D., and Eugene and wife Darlene Krier of Sheldon, Iowa; daughters Mary Lou (Krier) Habben of White Bear Lake, Minn., Shirley Krier of Sioux Falls, S.D., Donna (Krier) Ebeling and husband Fred of Moline, Ill., and Rosella (Krier) Waltman of Rapid City, S.D.; grandchildren Terry and wife Patricia Habben of Rochester, N.Y., Tom and wife Kelly Habben of Euless, Texas, R..J. and wife Kristine Habben of White Bear Lake, Minn., Kelly (Waltman) Rufledt and husband Ted of Rapid City, S.D., and Scott and wife Joann Waltman of Colorado Springs, Colo.; great-grandchildren Ryan and Nicholas Habben of Euless, Texas, Timothy and Leeann Habben of Rochester, N.Y., Ellen and Jeffrey Habben of White Bear Lake, Minn., and Jessica and Sara Rufledt of Rapid City, S.D.; brothers Louis Leichtnam of Presho, S.D., and Frank Leichtnam of Presho, S.D.; and sister Marie Leichtnam Hellman of San Francisco, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; infant daughter Dorothy Krier; sons-in-law Bob Habben and James Waltman; one great-granddaughter, Allison Habben; and brothers and sister Emanuel Leichtnam, Sophia Leichtnam, Joseph Leichtnam, and Charles Leichtnam. Isburg-Hofmeister Funeral Chapel of Presho has been placed in care of the arrangements.

Robert A. Vrbka

OELRICHS — Robert A. Vrbka, 74, Oelrichs, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at Hot Springs Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine Vrbka, Oelrichs; six sons, Robert Vrbka, Alliance, Neb., Randall Vrbka, Mission, John Holsclaw, U.S. Navy, Ronald Campbell, Phoenix, Wallace Campbell, Custer, and Darrell Campbell, Box Elder; three daughters, Betty Rhembrandt, Chadron, Neb., Connie Sutherland, Battle Mountain, Nev., and Bobbie Jo Campbell, Hot Springs; one brother, Maynard Vrbka, Norfolk, Neb.; one sister, Barbara Schmidt, Cody, Wyo.; 28 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

He served in the U.S. Army from March 12, 1946, to Oct. 16, 1947.

A Christian wake will be at 7 p.m. today at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Hot Springs.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 5, at the church, with the Rev. Peter Kovarik officiating.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel of Hot Springs is in charge of arrangements.

George Arthur Moeller

PIERRE — George Arthur Moeller, 92, Pierre, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at Beverly Health Care in Pierre.

Survivors include three daughters, Donna Fjelstad, Fort Pierre, Kathleen Currey, Bismarck, N.D., and Janet Stam, Blaine, Minn.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a dear friend, Elsie Zadkovich, Pierre.

His wife, Averil Beller Moeller, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Isburg-Hofmeister Funeral Chapel in Pierre.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Friday, April 5, at the funeral chapel.

Burial will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Rose Hill Cemetery in Clark.

Memorials may be made to South Dakota Historical Society or charities of the donor's choice.

Leonard ‘Greg' Abeln

STURGIS — Leonard "Greg" Abeln, 69, Sturgis, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital. Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. to time of services Saturday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2002, at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, with Pastor Harold Brink officiating. Burial follows at the Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis.

Greg, or Abe as he was also known, was born September 16, 1932, at Rochford, S.D., to John and Emma Abeln. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1951 until 1953. After his discharge he returned home, and on June 16, 1956, he married Camille Miller in Rapid City, S.D.

Greg was a retired member of Local 1250 I.B.E.W., an electrical workers union.

Survivors include his wife, Camille Abeln, Sturgis; two sons, Larry Abeln, Everett, Wash., and Kevin Abeln, Sturgis; one daughter, Linda Driskill and her husband Phillip, Troy, Ill.; one brother, Francis Abeln, Rockaway Beach, Ore.; three sisters, Josephine Byre, Oacoma, S.D., Lorraine Aalseth, Billings, Mont., and Rosalie Wheeler, Rapid City, S.D.; also several nieces and nephews.

RAPID CITY - Gary K. Harkness, 59, Rapid City, died Sunday, March 31, 2002, at Fort Meade Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Sturgis.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Harkness, Rapid City; two sons, Paul Harkness, Woodbury, Minn., and Steven Harkness, Rapid City; three daughters, Shannon Kottke, Rapid City, Carrie Antus, Lino Lakes, Minn., and Kim Demmer, Maplewood, Minn.; three brothers, Roger Harkness, Orlando, Fla., Michael Harkness, San Francisco, and Bruce Harkness, Wisconsin; two sisters, Vicki Hawley, St. Paul, Minn., and Penny Remey, Minneapolis; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 4, at Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall in Rapid City.

Carlsen & Aldinger Funeral Home of Sturgis is in charge of arrangements.

N. Lois Rich Killspotted

RAPID CITY - N. Lois Rich Killspotted, 73, Rapid City, died Sunday, March 31, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, Larry Killspotted, Rapid City; four daughters, Pearl Martinez, Pipestone, Minn., and Ione McCloskey, Coralana McCloskey and Mary Sun Bear, all of Rapid City; five sons, David

McCloskey, Sioux Falls, and Ruben McCloskey Jr., James McCloskey, Phillip McCloskey and Duane Curtis, all of Rapid City; two sisters, Thelma Capper, Keystone, Ind., and Marletta Pacheco, Rapid City; three brothers, Wallace Rich and Keith Rich, both of Rapid City, and Arley Rich, Black Hawk; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

An all-night wake will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 4, at the Oyate Center at Lakota Homes in Rapid City.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 5, at the Oyate Center, with the Rev. Wendell Ghost Bear and the Rev. Darrell New officiating.

Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Rapid City.

Osheim-Catron Funeral Home of Rapid City is in charge of arrangements.
