Ella and McKenna Robertson

WAGNER - Ella Grace and McKenna Marie Robertson, infant twin daughters of Michael and Michelle Robertson of rural Wagner, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at St. John Lutheran Church, Wagner, with burial in the ZCBJ Cemetery, rural Wagner.

There is a 7 p.m. prayer service tonight (Monday) at the church.

Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home, Wagner, is in charge of arrangements.

William 'Bill' Burbach

ST. HELENA, Neb. -- William J. "Bill" Burbach, age 54, of St. Helena, NE died on Wednesday, July 4, 2007, in an ATV accident on his farm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, July 7, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at the Holy Family (Immaculate Conception) Catholic Church in St. Helena with Rev. Michael Keating officiating. Burial will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in St. Helena.

Visitation will be on Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 3:00 p.m. and a vigil service and video tribute at 7:30 p.m. at the church. Visitation will begin one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

Services are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.

Pallbearers are Bill's brothers-in-law: Bill Arens, Dave Jones, Clayton Bruening, Rick Noecker, Brice Pinkelman, Jerry Gross and Chuck Donnely.

Bill was born on April 29, 1953, at Yankton to Joseph and Lucille (Wieseler) Burbach. He grew up on a farm northwest of Wynot and graduated from Wynot High School in 1971. He then began farming and continued to farm with his father and 2 brothers, Chuck and Mark. He married Donna Wubben on August 4, 1984, at Fordyce. He loved to farm and spend time with his children, family, and friends. He loved to visit with people and enjoyed traveling. He loved to attend his children's sporting activities and enjoyed baseball, snow skiing, and boating.

Bill was a member of the Holy Family (Immaculate Conception) Catholic Church, served as a lector, and taught CCD.

He is survived by his wife Donna of St. Helena; six children: Amy Burbach of Norfolk, Brian Burbach of St. Helena, Chelsey, Duane, Erica, and Filip Burbach, all at home; mother, Lucille Burbach of Wynot; 2 sisters: Lynette and Clayton Bruening of Yankton, Kathy and Rick Noecker of Hartington; 4 brothers: Lyle and Jeanne Burbach of Columbus, NE, Chuck and Paula Burbach of Wynot, Dennis and Susan Burbach of Yankton and Mark Burbach of Wynot; and parents-in-law, Cyril and Coletta Wubben of Fordyce.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Frank Wuestewald

Frank Wuestewald, 72, of Yankton died Wednesday (June 27, 2007) at his residence.

Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Yankton, with the Rev. Ken Bain officiating. Burial will be in Constance Cemetery, Constance, Neb.

Visitation is from 3-8 p.m. Friday at Wintz & Ray Funeral Home, Yankton, with a rosary at 7 p.m. and vigil service at 7:30 p.m.

Cora Aten

CHARLESTON, Ill -- Cora M. Aten, age 90, of Charleston, IL died Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at Charleston Rehab & Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 20, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church, Yankton with Rev. Dean Trapp officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories.

Visitations will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, November 19, 2006 at the Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, SD with an Order of Eastern Star Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Keith Aten, Kevin Aten, Don Kudrna, Ron Koupal, Charles Tienken and Loy Gravholt. Honorary pallbearers are Chris Aten, Patrick Aten and Laddie Kostel.

Cora Mae Sloan was born March 5, 1916 in Endicott, NE, the oldest child of Roger and Marie (Moser) Sloan. The family moved to the Ragan, NE area when she was an infant. She attended and was a graduate of the Ragan Consolidated School, one of the first consolidated schools in the state. In high school, she was active in 4-H, orchestra, Girls' Glee Club, and took the state accredited high school normal training courses passing all the exams. For several years, she taught in a rural school near Alma, NE. She was united in marriage to Lloyd B. Aten on November 23, 1935 in Kearney, NE. To this union were born two sons-Dennis Wayne Aten in 1937 and Ronald Bruce Aten in 1944. For two years, Cora was employed by the local telephone office in Ragan, NE. They lived in several states over the years, including Kansas, Missouri, Minnesota, South Dakota, and Iowa before residing in Tabor in 1950. While living in Tabor, her husband, Lloyd was employed at BY Electric as a manager and upon his retirement, they moved to Yankton.

Cora was a member of the United Methodist Churches in Ragan, NE, Springfield, Tyndall, and Yankton. She was very active in the United Methodist Women in Tyndall and Yankton, where she held the offices of President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and other offices at various times. Her memberships also extend to the Order of the Eastern Star in Springfield, Tyndall, and Yankton, where she held all offices but two at various times, and the United Methodist Administration Board in Tyndall and Yankton. For several years, she was a member of the hand bell choir.

Her memory will be cherished by her two sons: Dennis of Charleston, IL and Ron of Abilene, TX; her brother, Dale Sloan of Springfield, IL; five grandchildren: Keith Aten of Gardner, KS, Kevin Aten of Cerro Gordo, IL, Lori Aten of Charleston, IL, Chris Aten of Wichita Falls, TX, and Patrick Aten of Lubbock, TX; five great grandchildren: Christina Purcell, Leanna Purcell, Sarah Aten, Ashley Purcell, and Paul Aten, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lloyd in 1991, three brothers: Wayne Sloan in 1934 in an accident, Larry Sloan in 2000, Glen Sloan in 2004, a sister, Roselyn Kasson in 1996.

Frederick 'Fred' Mehrman

Frederick "Fred" Mehrman, age 63, of Yankton, died Sunday, June 17, 2007, under hospice care at his home near his family.

Mass of Resurrection will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Yankton, with Rev. Ken Bain officiating. Private family burial of his cremated remains will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Visitations will be 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. followed by a Scripture service at 7:30 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Roger Baron, Ron Bertsch, Sonny Olson, Greg Adamson, Elmer Kuchta, Dan Smith, Jim Schroeder, and Pete Van Driel.

Frederick Francis Mehrman was born in Quincy, Massachusetts on July 22, 1943 to Frederick and Ruth (Sturrock) Mehrman. He was the first of three children. Fred moved to Yankton, SD in 1962 to attend Yankton College. While attending Yankton College, he met his future wife, Margo Avant. They were united in marriage on June 4, 1966.

Fred had many passions in his life. As a father, he was extremely proud of his children, Jenny and Mason. He loved sports and was always a fan of any athletic event his children were participating in. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and knew that there was much more to both hobbies than the kill or the catch. The Black Hills of South Dakota was one of Fred's favorite places to be. He especially enjoyed trout fishing at Center Lake in Custer State Park. Fred earned a Masters Degree in History from the University of South Dakota in 1975. He taught at Yankton High School for 30 years and was a respected teacher of many students who took Advanced Placement History and Economics. Fred was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous and had a positive impact on the many friendships he developed there. He deeply loved his family and treasured the strong bonds he had with his wife and children and most recently his grandchildren. He was proud of his home, his family and his faith in God. Fred will always be remembered as a storyteller, a friend, a loving Grandpa and a fighter. He lost his battle with cancer but never lost his dignity.

Fred is survived by his wife, Margo of Yankton, SD; son, Mason (Theresa) and their children, Jacoby and Sadie of Sioux Falls, SD; daughter, Jennifer (Chad) Kapla and their children: Jace, Eli and Sydney of Yankton, SD; his mother, Ruth Mehrman of East Weymouth, MA; two sisters, Janis Panttila of East Weymouth, MA and Laurie Murray of Hanson, MA; several nieces and nephews and his mother-in-law, Margaret Bates of Yankton, SD.

He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Mehrman Sr. in 1994.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Yankton Baseball Association, PO Box 299, Yankton, SD 57078 or the Yankton Area Ice Association, PO Box 235, Yankton, SD 57078.

Marvin 'Sparky' Olson

TYNDALL -- Marvin C. "Sparky" Olson, 90, of Tyndall and formerly of Gayville, died Thursday (Feb. 5, 1998) at St. Michael's Hospital, Tyndall.

Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Gayville Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Barbara Stroud-Borth officiating. Burial is in the Gayville Cemetery, Gayville.

Pallbearers are Kevin, Brian, and Brad Gibson; Greg Schiltz; Del Dockendorf and Brian Anderson.

Visitation is from 5-9 p.m. Sunday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at the Ray-Lane Funeral Chapel, Yankton. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.

Calina C. Marvin

TYNDALL -- Calina C. Marvin, 80, of Tyndall died Thursday (Feb. 5, 1998) at St. Michael's Hospital, Tyndall.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Tyndall, with the Rev. Joseph Howlett officiating. Burial is in the Tyndall Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Craig Rothschadl, Ernie Stolz, Bob O'Grady, Bill Raabe, Harvey Friedrich and Joe Rothschadl Jr.

Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Petrik-Kelley Funeral Chapel, Tyndall. There is also a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Willard Stone officiating.

Edward Wagner

SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- Edward Wagner, 89, of Sioux City, Iowa, and formerly of Yankton, died Friday (Feb. 6, 1998) in Blue Springs, Mo.

Funeral arrangements are pending with the Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, Sioux City.

Betty Palsma

HURON -- Betty Palsma, 52, of Huron, died Friday (Feb. 6, 1998) at her home.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Huron Mission Church with the Rev. David Cotner and the Rev. Ward Crocker officiating. Burial is at Ideal Cemetery, Huron.

Visitation is Sunday afternoon and evening, with the family present from 7-8 p.m. Sunday night, at the Welter Funeral Home, Huron. Visitation resumes prior to the services Monday at the church.

J.R. 'Jack' Cody

J.R. "Jack" Cody, 80, of Yankton died Wednesday (Feb. 4, 1998) at Lahaina Maui, Hawaii.

Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton, with the Rev. James Bream officiating.

George Roumpf

HARTINGTON, Neb. -- George Roumpf, 89, of Hartington, Neb., died Thursday (Feb. 5, 1998) at the Hartington Nursing Center, Hartington.

Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Hartington. Burial is in the Hartington City Cemetery.

Visitation is from 1-9 p.m. Sunday, at Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington.

Tammi Ewing

Tammi Ewing, age 46, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Monday, February 4, 2008, at her residence in Yankton.

Private Services for all of her family and close friends will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 8, 2008 at the Wintz and Ray Funeral Home in Yankton.

Tammi was born on December 9, 1961 at Santa Monica, CA to De Wayne Allen and Eleanor R. (Dearth) King. She grew up in Yankton and attended Yankton High School. She was married to Kevin Ptak for 25 years and to this union three children were born. She married J.D. Ewing on July 15, 2007 at Winner, SD. Tammi collected fairies, angels, and Precious Moments statues. She loved being with her family and friends, especially those times when she could sit in the sun at the pool with her kids. If it was pink or purple, Tammi loved it. She also loved all of her pets.

Tammi is survived by her husband J. D. Ewing of Yankton, 4 children; Liz and Corey Kramer of Hartington, Natosha and Rory Hamilton of Yankton, Kelly Ptak and Nick Ptak both of Sioux Falls, 5 grandchildren, father, De Wayne and Deanna King of DeSoto, Texas, mother, Eleanor and Louis Juttelstad of Yankton, 2 sisters; Dawn and Tony Anderson of Yankton, Jessica and Jason Larson of Lemars, Iowa, 2 brothers; De Wayne King Jr. of Newcastle, Wyoming, Timothy Louis Juttlestad of Des Moines, Iowa, her former husband Kevin Ptak of Yankton, many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, 2 uncles, Dennis and Donald King, and Danny Gratzfeld.

Gene Biesman

Gene M. Biesman, 77, of Yankton died Tuesday (Feb. 5, 2008) at Avera Yankton Care Center, Yankton.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church, Yankton, with the Rev. Jon Cooke officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, Yankton, with military honors provided by the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post No. 791.

Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Wintz & Ray Funeral Home, Yankton, with a prayer service and video tribute at 7 p.m.
