SPEARFISH - Albert William "Bert" "Pete" Peters, 90, Spearfish, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, in a Mission, Texas, hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Peters, Spearfish; two sisters, Iris Miller, Coshocton, Ohio, and Pearl Bloom, Monmouth Beach, N.J.; four sons, Bill Peters, Alvin, Texas, Dave Peters, Newport, N.C., Steve Peters, Spearfish, and Gary Peters, Gillette, Wyo.; one daughter, Mary Katherine Brost, Lusk, Wyo.; four stepsons, Curtis Holmes, Duncan, Okla., LeLayne Holmes, Spearfish, Thad Oviatt, Boulder, Colo., and Rob Oviatt, Whitewood; two stepdaughters, Nancy McClendon, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Melissa Gulley, Boulder; one foster son, Tom Senk, San Diego; 23 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at United Church of Christ in Spearfish, with the Rev. Howard Smith and the Rev. Sylvan Williams officiating.
Kinkade Funeral Chapel of Sturgis is in charge of arrangements.
Gilbert Marcum
LEAD - Gilbert Marcum, 87, Lead, died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at Northern Hills General Hospital in Deadwood.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes Marcum, Lead, and two brothers, Floyd Marcum, Silverton, Ore., and Carl Marcum, Spearfish.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1941-1945.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at Chaput Memorial Chapel in Lead.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 22, at the funeral chapel, with the Rev. Steve Agan officiating.
Burial with military honors will be at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
A memorial has been established.
Kathyleen V. Jeffery
SPEARFISH - Kathyleen V. Jeffery, 83, Spearfish, died Monday, March 18, 2002, at Lookout Memorial Hospital in Spearfish.
Survivors include one son, Jerry Jeffery, and three brothers, Junior Andersen, Spearfish, Dr. Roger Andersen, Centennial, Colo., and Nels Andersen, Rapid City.
Arrangements are pending with Fidler Funeral Chapel of Spearfish.
Wanda Grace Yellow Boy
PINE RIDGE - Wanda Grace Yellow Boy, 37, Pine Ridge, died Saturday, March 16, 2002, in Rapid City.
Survivors include two daughters, Cari Black Elk and Codi Black Elk, both of Rapid City; her mother, Abigail Yellow Boy, Pine Ridge; three sons, Dawson Black Elk Jr., Pine Ridge, Dustin Black Elk, Rushville, Neb., and Lloyd Yellow Boy, Rapid City; four sisters, Roberta Yellow Boy, Allen, April Adams, Martin, and Roxanne Holy Dance and Helen Holy Dance, both of Slim Buttes; and four brothers, Russell Running Hawk, Kyle, Lawrence Running Hawk and Alex Running Hawk, both of Pine Ridge, and Robert Yellow Boy, Porcupine.
A two-night wake will begin at 3 p.m. today at Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 22, at Billy Mills Hall, with the Rev. Darrell New and the Rev. Abraham Tobacco officiating.
Burial will be at Body of Christ Cemetery in Pine Ridge.

Melvin H. Eaton
RAPID CITY - Melvin H. Eaton, 77, Rapid City, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Margie Eaton, Rapid City; three sons, David Eaton, McCook, Neb., Roger Eaton, Chadron, Neb., and Melvin Eaton, Springfield, Mass.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He served in the Army Air Corps from April 17, 1943, to Dec. 6, 1945.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Behrens Mortuary in Rapid City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Behrens Mortuary, with the Rev. Bruce Baum officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Fairview Cemetery in Rushville, Neb.
Harold D. Bentsen
RAPID CITY - Harold D. Bentsen, 94, Rapid City, died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at a local nursing home.
Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Donohoe, Rapid City; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home of Rapid City.
Maybelle Blanche Postlewait
WINNER - Maybelle Blanche Postlewait, 88, Winner, died Monday, March 18, 2002, at Winner Regional Healthcare Center.
Survivors include one nephew, William Sinclair, White River, and one niece, Mavis Klaassen, Hutchinson, Kan.
Her husband, John A. Postlewait, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at Mason Funeral Home in Winner.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 21, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Winner.
Burial will be at Winner Cemetery.
Glen Allen Wilkinson
PRAIRIE CITY - Glen Allen Wilkinson, 84, Prairie City, died Monday, March 18, 2002, at West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, N.D.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Wilkinson, Prairie City; one son, Joe Wilkinson, Reva; one daughter, Donna Niederwerder, New Underwood; four grandchildren; four sisters, Daisy Wilkinson, Violet Krambeer, Lila White and Bessie Campbell; and two brothers, Stan Wilkinson and Harold Wilkinson.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, March 22, at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Chapel in Hettinger, and for one hour before services Saturday, March 23, at Slim Buttes Lutheran Church near Reva.
Services will be at 11 a.m. at the church, with the Rev. Alvin Magnuson officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Mildred L. Merchen
KADOKA - Mildred L. Merchen, 93, Kadoka, died Monday, March 18, 2002, at Philip Nursing Home.
Survivors include her husband, Harry Merchen, Kadoka; four sons, Harry Merchen, Norris, Melvin Merchen, Rapid City, Mark Merchen, Kadoka, and Widd Merchen, Gordon, Neb.; two daughters, Jeanine Dean, Sioux Falls, and Ronnell Gratzke, Ennis, Mont.; 22 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at Rush Funeral Chapel in Kadoka.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 22, at Kadoka Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Gary McCubbin officiating.
Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Norris Cemetery.
A memorial has been established.
Helen M. Gambs
RAPID CITY - Helen M. Gambs, 87, of Rapid City, died on Sunday, March 17, 2002, at Westhills Village Health Care in Rapid City.
She is survived by two daughters, Beverly Rhoades of Rapid City, Susan Gasele and her husband, Gary, of Duluth, Minn.; one sister, Irva Justice of Fort Worth, Texas; and four grandchildren, Gregory Rhoades and wife Nancy of Seattle, Wash., Stacy Rhoades of Rapid City, John and Jeff Gasele, both of Duluth, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter R. Gambs; parents, Tom and Geanell Baldwin; and one brother, Lyle (Hap) Baldwin.
A private family graveside service will take place at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis at a later time, where Helen will join her husband.
The family prefers memorials to the Alzheimer's Association.

Richard P. Valandra
RAPID CITY - Richard P. Valandra, 71, Rapid City, died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at Sioux San Hospital in Rapid City.
Survivors include his wife, Isa Valandra, Rapid City; one son, Paul Valandra, Mission; one daughter, Wanda Valandra, Brooklyn, N.Y.; four sisters, Pauline Jackson, Olivia Janis and Marylou Fuller, all of Mission, and Evelyn Hatten, Rapid City; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Kirk Funeral Home.
Wake services will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at St. Thomas Hall in Mission.
Services will be at 10 am. Friday, March 22, at St. Thomas Hall.
Burial, with military honors by The Retired Enlisted Association of Rapid City, will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
Leta Genevieve Bigler
DUPREE - Leta Genevieve Bigler, 97, Dupree, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at Beverly Black Hills Nursing Home in Rapid City.
Survivors include one son, Richard Bigler, Dupree; two granddaughters; and one sister, Gladys Cleek, Arlington, Va.
Her husband, John Bigler, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at United Church of Christ Congregational in Dupree, with the Rev. Daniel Shahan officiating.
Burial will follow at Dupree Cemetery.

Robert John Brown
OGLALA - Robert John Brown, 19, Oglala, died Saturday, March 16, 2002, in Pine Ridge.
Survivors include three sisters, Theresa Price, Pine Ridge, and Diana Eagle Hawk and Magdalena Rojas-Riviera, both of Oglala, and three brothers, Lambert Eagle Hawk and Evans Brown, both of Oglala, and Chauncey Brown Jr., Manderson.
A one-night wake will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at Oglala Recreation Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 22, at the recreation center, with the Rev. Asa Wilson officiating.
Burial will be at Makasan Presbyterian Cemetery in Oglala.

Clifford Lewis Hall
DEADWOOD - Clifford Lewis Hall, 72, Deadwood, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at Fort Meade Veterans Affairs Hospital in Sturgis.
Survivors include two sons, Aldo Hall, Scottsbluff, Neb., and Kurt Hall, Deadwood; three daughters, Terry Koontz, Sturgis, Lynn Ward, Hobbs, N.M., and Renel Beck, Boulder Canyon, Colo.; 19 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his companion, Virginia Belford, Michigan; and three brothers, Wayne Hall, Las Vegas, and Alvin Hall and Orville Hall, both of Vivian.
His wife, Lola Vee Meyer Hall, preceded him in death.
He served in the U.S. Navy from Oct. 2, 1948, to Oct. 1, 1949.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, and for one hour before services Thursday, March 21, at Community Lutheran Church in Hill City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Evelyn Johnson officiating.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
A memorial has been established to the South Dakota Lions' Sight and Service Foundation.
