Jeanie Ann Kills Right

PORCUPINE — Jeanie Ann Kills Right, 26, Porcupine, died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, in Porcupine.

Survivors include two daughters, Simone Shots With Arrow and Alisa Kills Right, both of Porcupine; her father, Albert C. Kills Right Sr., Porcupine; three sisters, Betty Fox, Salem, Ore., Michelle Kills Right, Portland, Ore., and Estelle Kills Right, Seattle; and two brothers, Albert Kills Right Jr. and Dennis Kills Right, both of Porcupine.

A two-night wake will begin at 1 p.m. Monday, March 18, at the Porcupine CAP Office.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, at Gospel Mission Cemetery in Porcupine, with the Rev. Asa Wilson, Deacon Ruby Schluter, and Deacon William Lone Hill Sr. officiating.

Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge is in charge of arrangements.

Carmel Marie Sweeney

RAPID CITY — Carmel Marie Sweeney, 84, Rapid City, died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at Clarkson Mountain View Guest Home.

She was born on July 16, 1917, in Whittemore, Iowa, to Joseph J. Elbert and Elizabeth (Fandel) Elbert. She grew up and was raised in the Whittemore and Algona area. She graduated from St. Cecelia's High School, Algona, Iowa, in 1935. Before she married she worked for an insurance company in Minnesota and in dental offices in South Dakota.

On February 12, 1946, she married John F. Sweeney in Algona, Iowa. They then moved to Rapid City, S.D., in 1952. She worked at St. Martin's in the kitchen and at St. Elizabeth Seton School as a secretary.

She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cathedral, the Altar Society, Minneluzahan Senior Citizens Center and Sacred Heart Auto League.

She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and cooking.

She is survived by her husband, John F. Sweeney of Rapid City, S.D.; son, John J. (Ann) Sweeney of Carroll, Iowa; daughter, Mary Susan (Jack) Gabbert of Meadow, S.D.; three sisters, Gertrude Schiltz of Bancroft, Iowa, Dolores Geelan of Ruthven, Iowa, and Evie (Spud) Wagner of Algona, Iowa; and three brothers, Arnold Elbert of

Fonda, Iowa, Michael (Gene) Elbert of Algona, Iowa, and Archie (Rose) Elbert of Mankato, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Isabel Besch and Elizabeth Elbert; and three brothers, Irvin Elbert, Joseph Elbert and Clem Elbert.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 17, 2002, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Behrens Mortuary. There will be a rosary Sunday, March 17, 2002, at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cathedral.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, March 18, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cathedral, with Msg. Michael Woster as celebrant.

Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, S.D.

Memorials may be given to Alzheimer's Association and Parkinson's Disease.

Iva I. ‘Ivy' Brooks

PHILIP — Iva I. "Ivy" Brooks, 88, Philip, died Thursday, March 14, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Survivors include three sons, Richard Brooks, Philip, Robert Brooks, Rapid City, and Dennis Brooks, Crystal, Minn.; two daughters, Jane Coleman, Tacoma, Wash., and Raynae Richburg, Irvington, Ala.; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Earl Ellis, Yellville, Ark., and Gerald Ellis, Troy, Mo.; and three sisters, Pearl Sapp, Philadelphia, Mo., Betty Vance, Hannibal, Mo., and Mary Appl, Palmyra, Mo.

Her husband, Floyd S. Brooks, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, March 18, at Rush Funeral Home in Philip and for one hour before services Tuesday, March 19, at United Church in Philip.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Al Brucklacher officiating.

Burial will be at Masonic Cemetery in Philip.

Ordell Gluhm

RAPID CITY — Ordell Gluhm, 79, of Rapid City, died peacefully March 13, 2002, at his home.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2002, at Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel in Hot Springs.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2002, also at Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel in Hot Springs, with Rev. Peter Dahlberg officiating.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis.

Ordell was born June 28, 1922, in Howard, South Dakota, to Ferdinand and Anna Gluhm. He was married to Mildred Heinrichs on June 10, 1945, in Artesian, South Dakota. Ordell joined the Army on November 12, 1942, and was honorably discharged on October 21, 1943. He was a member of the American Legion since 1956. He farmed in Howard, South Dakota, from 1945 to 1964. Then they moved to Hot Springs, South Dakota, in 1964. He worked at the VA for 20 years before retiring in 1983 due to health problems. They moved to Rapid City in 1995.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred of Rapid City; two sons, Donald Gluhm of Hot Springs and Daniel Gluhm and his wife Eula of Rapid City; four daughters, Luella and husband Elmer of Casper, Wyo., Geraldine and husband Robert Lenneox, Barbara and husband Kenneth Lenneox, and Patricia and husband James of Hill City; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; special friend Lucille Kirkpatrick; one brother, Fritz Gluhm of Madison, S.D.; and one sister, Mildred Sanderson of Highmore, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel in Hot Springs.

Margot ‘Marge' G. Goodrich

ALBUQUERQUE — Margot "Marge" G. Goodrich, age 74, a resident of Albuquerque, N.M., since 1961, died Thursday, March 7, 2002. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Albuquerque, Nor Este Art Association and a member of the UNM Auxiliary. She attended the Chicago Art Institute, and was known in Albuquerque for her paintings. She is survived by her son, Martin Lange and wife, Tina of Sarasota, Fla.; daughters, Cynthia Lewis and husband, Timothy, and Trudy Randour and husband Charles, all of Albuquerque; and grandchildren Heather, Melinda and Jeffrey Lange and Christopher and Maleri Randour. Also surviving are her stepchildren, C. Ronald Goodrich and wife Greta, Albuquerque; R. Donald Goodrich and wife Eunice of Spokane, Wash.; Stephen Goodrich and wife Wanda of Rapid City, S.D.; Dr. C. Paul Goodrich and wife Cynthia of Hebron, Conn.; and Sharon Eras of Alhambra, Calif.; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Margot was preceded in death by her first husband, Martin Lange, in September 1984. She married C. Paul Goodrich on April 12, 1989. He preceded her in death on

June 14, 2000.

Services for Margot were held on Monday, March 11, 2002, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Albuquerque, with Pastor Randy Walquist officiating. Interment was at Sunset Memorial Park in Albuquerque. Contributions may be made to the Goodrich Endowment Scholarship Fund in c/o The LCMS Foundation Fund International Center, 1333 S. Kirkwood Road, St. Louis, MO 63122-7295 or the ALS Association New Mexico Chapter, P.O. Box 16495, Albuquerque, NM 87191-6495.

Doris M. Newton

BELLE FOURCHE — Doris M. Newton, 69, of Belle Fourche, passed away Thursday morning, March 14, in Spearfish.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 17, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche, and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Funeral services will be Monday, March 18, at 10 a.m., from the First Congregational/United Church of Christ in Belle Fourche.

Pastor Buck Malone will officiate, with interment in Pine Slope Cemetery.

Doris M. Newton was born November 10, 1932, to Charles S. and Minnie Olive (Plumlee) Richardson at a beloved aunt's home in the Hulett area. The family moved often around Hulett and to Colony, Wyoming, Ridge, Montana, before settling in Belle Fourche in 1945, where she attended school with the class of 1951. She received her GED in 1975.

Doris met and married Cal Newton while working in Gillette, Wyoming, on 20 April 1951 and they soon made their home in Belle Fourche. Both worked hard in making a living and raising their family. Doris worked as a waitress for Florence Nonnast's Ice Cream Shop, the Tri-State Cafe and as a cook at Watt's Cafe. Doris and Cal owned and operated the 5th Avenue Cafe. She was an excellent cook. The family always looked forward to the holiday gatherings, when she would make her delicious pies and baked goods.

Doris' heart and home were always open to her family and friends. She was a Girl Scout leader and a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed sports, played basketball for Belle Fourche Women's Team, which she helped organize, she bowled and was a secretary for her bowling league for several years. Doris was an avid gardener, always had a bountiful garden and beautiful flowerbeds. Doris' wit and sense of humor served her throughout her life and did not abate during her illness. She always had a joke to tell and a smile on her lips, even during her long bout with cancer.

She is survived by her children, Joyce and her husband Jim Burba of Tacoma, Wash., Jeff and his wife Mila Newton of Spearfish, S.D., Jimmer Newton of Beaverton, Ore., and a stepdaughter, Judy Newton of Fort Smith, Ariz.; two sisters, Lena and her husband Jack Low of Bridgeport, Neb., and Millie and her husband Tom Davis of Belle Fourche; grandchildren, Jim and Zac Burba, Cristina, Doris, Janice, Loni and Calvin Newton, Brandy and Cristal Newton, Early John and Mandy Cougar; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her partner and love of 25 years, Vernon "Abe" Abraham and his four children, Kelly, Shelly, Jody and Roxy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cal Newton; her parents, Charles S. and Minnie Olive Richardson; her brothers, Charles R. "Scotty" and Joseph Richardson; and three sisters, Mary Davis, Dorothy and Effie Richardson.

Agnes C. Gibson

BELLE FOURCHE — Agnes C. Gibson, 87, Belle Fourche and formerly of Spearfish, died Thursday, March 14, 2002, at Lookout Memorial Hospital in Spearfish.

Survivors include one sister, Letha Povandra, and two grandchildren.

Her husband, B.W. Gibson, preceded her in death.

The body has been cremated, and no services are planned.

Carlsen & Aldinger Funeral Home of Spearfish is in charge of arrangements.

RAPID CITY — Josephine C. Mattson, 81, Rapid City, died Thursday, March 14, 2002, at her home.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald Coleman, Montezuma, Iowa, and Robert Coleman, Kunkletown, Pa.; one stepdaughter, Linda Parson, Eugene, Ore.; four sisters, Tillie Angier, Mendota, Ill., Helen Butler, Cedar Lake, Ind., and Betty Egidi and Norma Wheelock, both of Holiday, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home of Rapid City.

Max Leo Rothleutner

NEWCASTLE, Wyo. — Max Leo Rothleutner, 90, Newcastle, died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at Weston County Manor in Newcastle.

Survivors include three sons, Tom Rothleutner, Upton, Max Rothleutner, Wheatland, and Elvin Rothleutner, Montrose, Colo.; one daughter, Helen Strom, Midland, Mich.; 18 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren.

His wife, Helen Rothleutner, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 17, with a 7 p.m. rosary, at Worden Funeral Chapel in Newcastle.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 18, at Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs, S.D., with the Rev. Bruce Clapham officiating.

Jacqueline Wicks Kennedy

LAKEWOOD, Colo. - Jacqueline Wicks Kennedy, 73, Lakewood and formerly of Hot Springs, S.D., died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, in Lakewood.

Survivors include two sons, David Kennedy, Lakewood, and Robert Kennedy, Littleton, Colo.; two daughters, Sarah, St. Petersburg, Fla., and Rachel, Denver; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were held Friday, March 1, at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Littleton.

Burial was at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.

Horan & McConaty Funeral Service of Lakewood was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Porter Hospice.

Corinne Alma Bauer

CORNELIUS, Ore. - Corinne Alma Bauer, 74, Cornelius and formerly of Rapid City, died Sunday, March 10, 2002, in Cornelius.

Survivors include two sisters, Irene Gaffney, Rapid City, and Sister Dorothy Bauer, Denver.

Arrangements are pending with Kirk Funeral Home of Rapid City.
