Frances L. Murphy
age 92 of Las Vegas, Nevada, died July 24, 2008, at the Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas.
Frances Daly Murphy was born May 21, 1916 in Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, the daughter of Paul and Harriet (King) Daly. She was baptized into the Roman Catholic Church in Philip, South Dakota.
She lived with her parents, brothers and sisters in a log house on their ranch on Plum Creek, near Milesville, South Dakota. When Frances was three, her parents sold out and moved to the new ranch south of Philip on Bad River so that their children could attend school.
Frances grew up with her brothers and sisters Bill, Merle, Maurice, Tad, Russell, Thomas, Gertrude and Helen riding horses, milking cows, and cutting hay. She graduated from Philip High School in 1934 where she was salutatorian for the senior class and wrote the class history.
Shortly after graduation, Frances began her career in the post office in Philip. She met and married Joe Murphy and their son Joe “Spud” was born in 1940. Frances and Spud spent World War II in Rapid City and moved to Philip in 1946 where she operated the Cozy Hotel until she got her old job back in the Philip Post Office, where the Dalys, O'Connors, Murphys, O'Connells, Kings, Harts, Barbers, Prices, Magnusons, and good friends made living pretty nice.
In 1959 she transferred to the post office in San Bruno, California where she lived near her sister Helen Barber and family. She retired in 1973 and moved across the bay to Pleasanton, California to be near Joe, his wife Diana and her two grandchildren, Brian and Jennifer. Here she developed her passion for painting of flowers and landscapes which became loving gifts to family and friends. In 1992 she moved to Las Vegas to be close to her family. She joined the art club, continued to paint and made many good friends. In the summer of 2003 she wrote her life story.
Grateful for having shared her life are her son Joe and his wife Diana of Las Vegas, Nevada; her grandson Brian of Sedona, Arizona, her granddaughter Jennifer Strader and her husband John of Henderson, Nevada; and her nieces, nephews and cousins for all of whom she felt tremendous affection.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters, two nephews Paul and William Daly and her niece Doris Daly Blanusa.
Mass of Christian Burial was held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 23, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Philip, with Father Ron Garry as celebrant.
Interment was in the Masonic cemetery, Philip.

Steve A. Kroetch, age 54, of Philip, died Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Steven A. Kroetch, better known as "Steve" to his family and friends, was born July 15, 1951, at the Letterman Army Hospital in San Francisco, California, the son of Arthur and Eleanor (Johnson) Kroetch.
In the spring of 1953, he moved with his family to Philip, South Dakota. Steve attended Philip Elementary School and attended high school at Assumption Abby in North Dakota for three years, before returning to Philip High School for his senior year, graduating in 1969.
After graduation, Steve worked for Scotchman Industries in Philip.
Steve was united in marriage to Karla Brooks on December 18, 1971, and to this union were born three children, Michelle "Micky", Martin, and Jaris. They continued to make their home in Philip, where Steve worked for Scotchman until 1981. In 1981, Steve purchased L&S Salvage which he operated until 1983, at which time he formed a partnership with Roger Buhman, changing the name to Rost Industrial. In 1988, Steve managed BEWO Saw Factory for Scotchman Industries. In 1992, Steve started Kroetch's Machine and Metal, which he owned and operated until selling the business in 2001. In 2004 he built his prize shop where he loved spending time working and visiting with friends and family.
Steve was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Philip; a member of the Knights of Columbus; the Lake Waggoner Golf Course, and a member of the special golf team "3 Dogs." Steve was a huge supporter of Philip wrestling, and loved to watch hours of tennis on television. Steve also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared his life include his wife Karla of Philip; a daughter Micky Reedy and her husband Matt of Philip; two sons Martin Kroetch of Philip, and Jaris Kroetch of Rapid City; two grand-children; Ashton and Dawson Reedy; his parents Arthur and Eleanor Kroetch of Philip; two brothers Bruce Kroetch and his wife Linda of Philip, and Jerry Kroetch and his wife Karen of Philip; four sisters Mary Arnold and her husband Richard of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Barbara Rislov and her husband Gerry of Philip, Sharon Scozzaro and her husband Michael of Chandler, Arizona, and Carol Asheim and her husband Dan of Hill City; his mother in-law Alice Brooks of Philip; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Steve was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Viola and Martin Johnson; his paternal grandparents, Pearl and Frederick Kroetch; his father in-law Lloyd Brooks; and his brother in-law Steve Brooks.
Visitation was held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 20, with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m., all at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Philip.
Mass of Christian Burial was held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 21, at the Philip High School Auditorium, with Father Ron Garry as celebrant.
Interment was in the Masonic cemetery, Philip.
A memorial is established.

Harvey Jacob Madsen was born in Pierre on February 22, 1905 to C. Kruse and Carrie (Fugelsang) Madsen.
Harvey attended rural schools before attending school in Midland. His father was a brand inspector in numerous cities such as Chicago where Harvey attended White Sox games at Comiskey Park, which was located next to the stockyards and thus he became an avid fan. They also lived in Sioux City, Iowa for two years where Harvey attended Morning Side High School during his freshman and sophomore years before coming back to Midland and graduating from Midland high School in 1923. He attended Huron College and Mankato Business College in Mankato Minnesota. While attending Huron College he played baseball for the National Guard and was dubbed the "Home Run King" of the team.
Harvey and his wife Pearl (Illian) of 73years were married on January 29, 1927 in Ft. Pierre and lived in Midland, Capa, and on the Madsen Ranch their entire lives. Their only child Janice and her family also live on the Madsen Ranch.
Harvey was a member of the Open Bible Church and earlier the Trinity Lutheran Church where he spent many years as Sunday School superintendent. He also was a very active member of the Gideons Organization.
He served as a board member at the First National Bank in Philip for 50 years - the longest anyone has ever served.
Harvey loved sports and still attended his grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's ball games, tumbling, gymnastics, and school activities. He also loved to fish and golf along with being an avid gardener. He took great pride in his garden produce and numerous varieties of roses.
Harvey was a wonderful person who took great pride in his family and also the Madsen Ranch, these were his greatest loves.
Survivors include one daughter Janice Bierle and her husband Jim of Midland; two grandchildren Kim L. Bierle and Kory Bierle and his wife Robin, all of Midland; three great-grandchildren Kruse, Sage and Bailey Bierle; a sister Elsie Madsen Haddock of Rapid City; two nephews Jim Haddock of Rapid City, and Robert Patrick Haddock and his wife Sheila and their children Molly and Alex, of Omaha, Nebraska; and many other nieces and nephews on Pearl's side of the family, many of whom worked with Harvey on the ranch.
Harvey was preceded in death by his wife Pearl Madsen on January 16, 2001; his parents, Kruse and Carrie (Fugelsang) Madsen; and two sisters Mabel and Florence.
Harvey J. Madsen, age 99, of Midland, died Friday, April 02, 2004 at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip
Visitation was held 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 4, at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Philip, and one hour preceding the services at the church on Monday.
Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 5, at the Open Bible Church in Midland, with Pastor Dan Carlson officiating.
Interment was in the Midland cemetery.
A memorial is established.

DeWayne D. Miller was born January 10, 1943, in Kulm, North Dakota, the son of Theodore and Lorraine (Jerke) Miller. He grew up in Kulm until the 6th grade, when he and his family moved to Philip, South Dakota. DeWayne grew up and received his education in Philip, graduating from Philip High School in 1963.
After graduation, he remained in Philip, until moving to Minneapolis, where he worked as a sales clerk. After a number of years in Minneapolis, DeWayne moved back to Philip. Later, DeWayne moved to Yankton, South
Dakota where he remained until October 2, 2000 when health reasons forced him into the Aurora-Brule Nursing Home in White Lake, where he has since resided.
DeWayne was an avid Elvis Presley fan and enjoyed reading and playing cards.
Survivors include two sisters, Joan Patterson and her husband Jerry of Kadoka, and Carlyn Williams and her husband DeLayne of Philip; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Dewayne was preceded in death by his parents Theodore and Lorraine (Jerke) Miller, and an infant sister, Inis Iris Miller.
DeWayne D. Miller, age 61, of White Lake, South Dakota, formerly of Philip, died Saturday evening, November 27, 2004 at the Aurora-Brule Nursing Home in White Lake.
Visitation was held 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 30, at the Rush Funeral Home in Philip, and one hour preceding the services at the church on Wednesday.
Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 1, at the Evangelical Free Church in Philip, with Pastor Gary Wahl officiating.
Interment was in the Masonic cemetery.
A memorial is established.

John Mednansky, age 93, of Kadoka, died Sunday, May 08, 2005, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.
John Mednansky was born March 10, 1912 in St. Lawrence, South Dakota, the son of Mike and Emma (Michaletz) Mednansky. He grew up and received his education in that area.
Later he owned and operated a radio repair shop in Kadoka for several years before moving to Rapid City. He then purchased a radio/television repair shop in Belle Fourche. After selling the shop, he purchased another radio/television shop in Missoula, Montana. He then moved to California and worked in a factory, owned by Howard Hughes, as an engineer. John moved to Bisbee, Arizona to retire. He lived in Bisbee until he moved to the Gateway Apartments in Kadoka, to be closer to family. In 2004 he moved into the Philip Nursing Home, where he has since resided.
Survivors include four brothers Clarence Mednansky and his wife May of White River, South Dakota, Art Mednansky (Edna) of Kadoka, Ervin "Bud" Mednansky of Bandera, Texas, and Ed Mednansky (Pat) of Iowa Park, Texas; three sisters Clara Pearson of Madison, South Dakota, Helen Boyd of Kadoka, and Gladys Lien of Volin, South Dakota; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Albina Mowery, Evelyn & Alice Mednansky; a brother Frank Mednansky; and a brother Michael & sister Elizabeth in infancy.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Robert B. "Bob" Reckling, age 56, of Philip, died Friday afternoon, September 8, 2006 at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip
Robert B. Reckling, better known as Bob to his family and friends was born August 1, 1950, in Rapid City, South Dakota, the son of Alvin and Rosemary (Holecek) Reckling. He grew up in Philip and graduated from Philip High School in 1968.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on February 17, 1969, during the Vietnam War, and served in various places. He received an honorable discharge on December 5, 1972 at San Diego, California. After his discharge he returned to Philip.
While in Philip, he, his father Alvin and brother Steve purchased the Osburn Hardware Store which Bob managed. They also owned and operated the Reckling Furniture Store. After Alvin's death in 1980, Randy Reckling moved back to Philip and the three boys operated the hardware and furniture store. They closed the hardware store in the early 1980's and Bob started his own plumbing business, which he operated in Philip.
Bob was united in marriage to Lou Ann Dean on February 3, 1974 in Philip. To this union were born five children, Andrew, Melissa, Matthew "BooBoo", Ashley and Marlis.
Bob continued to operate the plumbing business in Philip and also in the Wall area.
He was united in marriage to Barb Denke in May of 1998. They made their home in Philip.
Later Bob moved to Wall with his plumbing business which he continued with until the time of his illness. He moved back to Philip in May 2006.
Bob was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Philip, and a former member of the Philip Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting and always looked forward to the Black Hills deer hunting season. He enjoyed watching his children play sports especially baseball. His favorite baseball team was the Yankee's. Bob was very fond of his dog "Shadow" who was his faithful companion for over thirteen years.
Grateful for having shared his life are his five children, Andrew Reckling of Philip; Melissa Reckling and her special friend, Giovanni Rodriguez of Rapid City, Matthew Reckling and his special friend Jenny Clements of Philip, Ashley Reckling of Philip and Marlis Reckling and her special friend, Jason Petersen of Philip; two grandsons, Dominick Rodriguez and Cohen Reckling, his two brothers, Randy Reckling of Philip and Steve Reckling and his wife Teddi of Lincoln, Nebraska; several nieces and nephews; his first ex-wife, Lou Ann Fite of Philip and his second ex-wife, Barb Reckling of Wall; and a host of other relatives and friends. Bob was so looking forward to the birth of his two granddaughters.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services were held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at the American Legion Hall in Philip with Pastor Ann Schlossnagle officiating.
At Bob's request the body was cremated.

Electa Dianna Reddest was born January 15, 1950 at Lost Dog Creek, South Dakota, the daughter of Eugene and Ellen (Hollowhead) Reddest. She grew up there and attended boarding school in Mission. As a young lady she made her home with her maternal grandfather, whom she took care of. After his death she moved to Wall where she worked as a maid at various motels until health reasons forced her retirement.
She was united in marriage to Terry Lynch on April 7, 1997. They made their home in Wall all their married life.
Grateful for having shared her life include her husband Terry of Wall; three sons Jonathon Fool Head, Eugene Fool Head and Virgil Fool Head all of Wall; two daughter Mona Fool Head of Denison, Iowa and Alvina Fool Head of Wall; two grandchildren; three brothers Sidney Reddest of Rosebud, South Dakota, LeRoy Reddest of Lost Dog Creek, and Duane Reddest of Lost Dog Creek; three sisters Andrea Marshall of Wall, Flora Bullman of Lost Dog Creek, and Gwen Bullman of Lost Dog Creek; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Dianna was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers Eugene Thomas, Virgil, Cleveland, and Wyndell Reddest.
Electa Dianna Lynch, age 54, of Wall, died Saturday morning June 12, 2004 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Memorial services were held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Wall, with Pastor Ray Greenseth officiating.
Interment will be in the Quinn cemetery.
A memorial is established.

Herma R. Marsden, age 84, of Wall, died Saturday, August 06, 2005, at her residence in Wall.
Herma R. Durst was born October 23, 1920 in Hot Springs, South Dakota, the daughter of Howard Roy and Myrtle Janet (Jolly) Durst. She grew up in Custer and graduated from Custer High School in 1938. She then attended Black Hills State Teachers College, where she received her teaching certificate.
Herma was united in marriage to Kenneth Pittman on December 28, 1940. Kenny, a pilot, was killed in action in World War II in 1944.
Herma returned to BHSTC, where she earned her bachelor's degree, then she taught elementary school in Custer until 1948. She was united in marriage to Robert (Bob) Dale Marsden on August 1, 1948 in Custer, SD. They made their home on Robert's parent's ranch east of Wasta. Herma continued her teaching career and taught in Wall for one year and was a substitute teacher for many years. Bob and Herma later purchased the ranch and continued to operate it until retiring in 1979. Herma took an active role in operation of the ranch, particularly during periods Bob was incapacitated. They continued to reside on the ranch until 1989, when they moved their house to Wall to its present location.
Herma was a member of the Wall Methodist Church, where she was a long-time member of the Memorial Committee, served on many other committees, and taught Sunday School. She was a member of Carroll McDonald American Legion Auxiliary Unit # 246, where she held all local offices, served as district president, and also held various state offices. She was a member of the Golden Link Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star of Rapid City and was past matron of Wonderland Chapter of Wall. She served as den mother for cub scouts when her boys were young. She was a member of PEO Chapter AW in Custer, the Naja Temple Shrine Auxiliary, the Crooked Creek Extension Club, the Art Guild, the Wall Chamber of Commerce, and the Catalyst Club of Western South Dakota. She served as secretary and "tail twister" in the Lions Club. In recognition of her years of service to her neighbors and community, Herma received the Catalyst Club's Good Neighbor Award in 1994, an award she was particularly proud of.
Grateful for having shared her life are her sons Lloyd Marsden (Diane) of Sheridan, WY; Roy Marsden (Judy Baker) of Cambridge, WI; and Tom Marsden (Anna Henrickson) of Rapid City; her daughter Janet Kyte (Frank) of Arlington Heights, IL; her grandchildren Melanie Marsden (Joe Loetscher) of Colorado Springs, CO; Valerie Simpson (David) of Rapid City; Kenneth Marsden (Elizabeth Sharp) of Idaho Falls, ID; Jeremiah Marsden (Moira Querns) of Eugene, OR; Jenny Wiedeman (Robert) of Rapid City; Allison Kyte (Joe Yech) of Downers Grove, IL; Rob Kyte of Chicago, IL; and Joseph Marsden of Cambridge, WI; her great-grandchildren Elliott and Charles Kenneth Marsden, Delaney Marsden-Loetscher, and Joshua and Joelle Simpson; her sisters, Naomi Bowden of Athens, GA; June Tanner (Al) of Durango, CO; Ester McGinnis (R.H.) of Portland, OR; and Carol Durst (Dan Winther) of Monarch Beach, CA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Herma was predeceased by her parents, her husbands, Kenneth Pittman and Robert Marsden, her sons K.C. and Edward Alan, her sister Amy Durst McAvoy, and her brother Harry Durst.
Closed-casket visitation was held 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 11, at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Wall, and one hour preceding the services at the church on Friday.
Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 12, at the United Methodist Church in Wall, with Rev. Brad Kattelman officiating.
Interment with Eastern Star services were in the Wall cemetery.
A memorial is established to the Black Hills Playhouse, P.O. Box 2513, Rapid City, SD 57709.
Rush Funeral Chapel of Wall is in charge of arrangements.

Emma Evelyn Livermont, age 80, of Pierre and formerly of Rapid City and Wanblee, died Saturday, October 16, 2004 at the Mary House Nursing Home in Pierre.
Evelyn was born June 12, 1924 at Rockyford, South Dakota, the daughter of Asa and Winnie (Shangreaux) Steele.
She was united in marriage to A. Francis Livermont and he preceded her in death in October of 1979.
Grateful for having shared her life are her five sons, Alfred Livermont of Wanblee, Ronald Livermont of Nome, Alaska, Galen Livermont and his wife Linda of Interior, Glen Livermont and his wife Brenda of Pipestone, Minnesota, Blaine Livermont of Pierre; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Kevin Livermont; a granddaughter, Charlotte Livermont; and her parents.
Memorial services were held.

Roy Keith Long, Jr.
age 53 of Murdo, South Dakota, died August 19, 2008, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Roy Keith Long, Jr., better known as Keith to his family and friends, was born August 4, 1955, in Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, the son of Roy Keith Long, Sr. and Carol White.
As an infant the family moved to Germany where they spent three years. They then moved to Fort Huachuca, Arizona, where they spent three and a half years. This is where Keith started his education. They also lived in Ft. Knox, Kentucky and then in Ft. Benning, Georgia. He received his high school education in Ada, Oklahoma.
In 1972, Keith joined the United States Marines. He worked as a communication officer and was stationed on the west coast, east coast, as well as Japan.
After his discharge he returned to Ada for a short time. He then moved to South Dakota where he lived in various places before moving to Murdo.
Keith enjoyed hunting and loved the prairie of South Dakota. He was an avid rock hunter and rattle snake hunter.
Survivors include his very special friend Doris Buxcel whom he lived with for 25 years; his father Roy Keith Long, Sr. and his wife Christine of Ada, Oklahoma; his brother Jack Long and his wife Laura of Ada, Oklahoma; his sister Sue Ann Jiru of Livingston, Texas; two nieces; one nephew; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Keith was preceded in death by his mother Carol.
Graveside services were held 11:00 a.m. (CDT) Friday, August 22, at St. Peter Lutheran cemetery south of Midland.
A memorial is established.

Richard G. Kjerstad, better known as "Dick" by his family and friends, was born March 21, 1943 at his parents’ ranch northeast of Quinn, South Dakota, the son of Elnoris and Ila (Bean) Kjerstad. He grew up on the ranch and attended country school in that area. Dick then attended Wall High School graduating in 1960. After graduation he remained on the farm-ranch.
Dick was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Crown on March 2, 1961 in Rapid City. They made their home on the ranch where they raised their four sons, Kem, Jem, Kent and Kevin. Dick farmed and ranched all his life and took great pride that he passed down the opportunity for his children to return to the ranch, as his father had.
He was very proud of having all his sons involved in the family operations. He gave his sons responsibility, early and often. He did not expect success but he knew it would come, because he advised them not to be afraid of failure, but to learn from it. His greatest reward in life was watching his grandchildren grow and knowing that they will continue his legacy.
The deep love he had for his family, community, and land led him to become involved in and lead many organizations that contributed to the opportunity in and the advancement of agriculture and rural America. He was an instrumental member of numerous organizations throughout his life. They include 4-H, where he served as a leader, the Western Junior Livestock Board where he served as a member and President, the Central States Fair Board, the Jaycees, and the Masonic Lodge. He was also a board member of Golden West Telecommunications, and serves as president of Golden West Communications. He was a 35-year member of the Western South Dakota Buckaroos. Dick was awarded the Farm Bureau Outstanding Young Farmer in 1972, the Ag Producer of the Year in 2001, and the SDSU Beef Bowl "Friend of the Beef Industry" award for 2001. Dick was a very instrumental part of the construction of the West River Agriculture Research Center. He was a founding member of the First Western Greater Wall Foundation.
The generosity that Dick possessed can also be seen by his involvement on the Wall School Board, the South Dakota State University Foundation Board, the National Grasslands Coalition, the South Dakota Ag Producer Ventures, and served on the board of the Wall Golf Course, where he was a lifetime member. Dick was also very active with Farm Bureau, serving on the American Farm Bureau Federation Board, and FBL Financial Services Group Board, as well as South Dakota Farm Bureau Vice President from 1988-1995 and is currently President, a position he has held since 1995. Dick was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Wall.
Grateful for having shared his life is his wife Patty; four sons Kem Kjerstad and his wife Mary of Rapid City, Jem Kjerstad and his wife Kelly of Quinn, Kent Kjerstad and his wife Stephanie of Quinn, and Kevin Kjerstad and his wife Melissa of Wall; ten grandchildren, Louis, Elliot, Dillon, Ryan, Brittany, Krysta, Quincy, Natasha, Katrina and Tiana; three step-grandchildren Lauren, Gillian and Blake; his parents Elnoris and Ila Kjerstad of Quinn; a brother Jerald Kjerstad and his wife Margy of Piedmont; special members of the family Gary and Judy Yocum of Wall; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Dick was preceded in death by maternal and paternal grandparents and a daughter-in-law Rose Mary.
Richard G. "Dick" Kjerstad, age 61, of Wall, died Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Visitation was held 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 18, at the Wall High School Gymnasium, and one hour prior to the services at the gym on Saturday.
Funeral Services were held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 19 at the gym with Pastor Jim Cissell officiating.
Interment with Masonic Rites and the Western South Dakota Buckaroos escort was at the Wall cemetery.

Rush Funeral Chapel of Wall is in charge of arrangements.

Shandon Louise Wood was born January 29, 1915, at Gayville, South Dakota, the daughter of William and Erma (Conklin)Wood. The family moved to a ranch northeast of Wall, South Dakota in 1925 where she lived until she moved into Wall. She continued to live in the Wall area and was united in marriage to Frank Kleinschmit on March 11, 1935 where they made their home. Shandon assisted her husband in his business, Kleinschmit Construction. She was an active member of the Methodist Church and its Woman’s Auxiliary for many years and worked on many projects for the church including the printing of the cookbooks, helping with the bazaars and serving dinners to families. She was a friend to many. She loved cooking and having friends and family for dinner and for the holidays. As far as she was concerned, the more the merrier. She enjoyed her family, playing games with her grandchildren, and gardening. She liked camping in the Black Hills with Frank where they would take their fifth wheel and enjoy the lakes and fishing.Grateful for having shared her life include two daughters, Luann Spence of Grove, Oklahoma and Mona Rae Sims of Phoenix, Arizona; one son Douglas Kleinschmit and his wife Lola of Wall; five grandchildren, Lance Spence of Clarksville, Arkansas, Roxann Cool of El Dorado, Kansas, Jimmie Sims of Phoenix, Arizona, Kimberly Spence of Harrisonville, Missouri and Nathan Kleinschmit of Wall; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eunice Lewis of Rapid City, and Doris Clark of Albuquerque, New Mexico; a brother, Lloyd Wood of Hyde Park, Massachusetts; and a sister-in-law, Jewell Wood of Tallahassee, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Kleinschmit on December 12, 1992; her parents William and Erma Wood; a brother Merwyn Wood; a sister Millie Kennedy and a great- grandson, Blake Cool.
Shandon Louise (Wood) Kleinschmit, age 89, of Wall, South Dakota died Tuesday morning, February 24, 2004 at the Good Samaritan Center in New Underwood.
Closed casket visitation was held 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Wall.
Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 27, at the United Methodist Church in Wall, with Pastor Jim Cissell officiating.
Interment was in the Wall cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial.
