Alice B. Bork was born May 26, 1907 on her parent’s homestead near the Stamford community, east of Belvidere, the daughter of Otto and Anna (Rada) Bork.
She grew up on the homestead and received her education in that area.
As a young lady, she worked on the homestead with her mother, brothers and sisters, and later she did domestic work in various places in South Dakota and Minnesota.
In the mid 1940’s she returned to the Belvidere area where she purchased some land which she and her mother operated along with her brothers.
Alice was united in marriage to Charles Drabek on October 3, 1950 in Pierre, South Dakota.
They owned and operated a ranch north of Belvidere all their married life.
After Charles’ death on July 7, 1977 she continued to operate the farm-ranch until the fall of 1986 when she retired and moved to Wall to be near her daughter, son in-law, and grandchildren. In January 1998, she moved in with her daughter Jeannie Smith and her husband Guy.
In January 2002 she moved into the Good Samaritan Center in New Underwood where she has since resided.
Grateful for having shared her life is her daughter Jeannie Smith and her husband Guy of Wall; and two grandchildren, Briana and Garr Smith, both of Wall; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Alice was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Elmer and Otto Bork; and three sisters, Stella Estes, Bertha Lynch, and Florence Rittle.
Memorial services for Alice B. Drabek, age 94, of Wall, and formerly of Belvidere, were held 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2002 at the First Lutheran Church in Wall, with Pastor Monty Dell officiating.
At her request, her body was donated to the University of South Dakota School of Medicine in Vermillion.

Martha Pearson, age 85, of Philip, died Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Martha Doffee was born July 4, 1922, at her parents' homestead near Beulah, North Dakota, the fifth child born to John and Karolina (Flemmer) Doffee. She attended country school near Beulah through the eighth grade. She then worked at home, helping her dad on the farm and her mom raise her younger siblings.
Martha moved to Philip in 1945 where she stayed at the Hillside Hotel and worked at the Midway Cafe. The cafe is where she met Pere Pearson when he returned home from serving two years in the Army. Martha married Pere on May 4, 1945. They made their home eighteen miles northwest of Philip. She worked at the Philip Bowling Alley in the 1960's as a cook and a waitress. They farmed and ranched until they retired and moved to town in February 1989. They managed the Philip Laundromat for five years before purchasing it in 1994.
Her husband Pere preceded her in death on April 5, 2000. Martha continued running the A&M Laundromat until the time of her death.
Martha was a member of the United Church of Philip and the American Legion Auxilliary. She was a past member of the Bad River Senior Citizens.
Grateful for having shared her life include three sons and their wives, Philip P. Pearson and his wife Cheryl, Alvin E. Pearson and his wife Ruby, and Lester D. Pearson and his wife Joann, all of Philip; eleven grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; two brothers Sammy Doffee and his wife Helen of Cleveland, Tennessee, and Albert Doffee of Bismark, North Dakota; three sisters Pauline Morast of Terry, Montana, Eva Wegner of Hazen, North Dakota, and Bertha Newbauer of Portland, Oregon; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband Pere, Martha was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; one sister; two half-brothers; and one half-sister.
Visitation was held 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, July 13, at the United Church in Philip, and one hour preceding the services at the church on Saturday.
Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July14, at the United Church in Philip, with Pastor Mark Ford officiating.
Interment was in the Masonic cemetery.
A memorial is established.

Helen R. Prochaska was born July 7, 1912 to James and Marie (Cacek) Prochaska at Belvidere, South Dakota. She grew up and received all twelve years of education in the Belvidere School System.
She was united in marriage to Oliver Russell Collins June 28, 1930, in Philip, South Dakota, and to this union were born three children Joan, Shirley, and Edward.
They made their home on the Collins homestead seven miles north of Kadoka. In the early 1930’s, they moved into Kadoka. Helen then went to a Beautician school in Omaha, Nebraska and later owned and operated the first beauty shop in Kadoka (1936). Helen continued to operate her Salon until 1999 when she retired after sixty-three years. She bought a home in Kadoka in 1941, which was originally the first hospital in Kadoka and continued to live there throughout her lifetime until moving into the Kadoka Care Center in the year 2000.
Helen was best known for her talents and skills as a hairdresser. She was also an avid gardener and usually had a big garden of vegetables and a yard full of flowers. Among her other hobbies throughout her life were: crocheting, embroidering, decorating and redecorating, sewing, cooking, music, dancing, reading and crossword puzzles.
Helen will live on in people’s memories for many reasons but the one most visible memory will be the flowers that she shared with people and there are many yards in Kadoka and vicinity that Helen’s flowers adorn. Many people can also say, "Helen gave me my first permanent, haircut, or hairdo."
Helen was a member of the Kadoka Presbyterian church, and, in the past, was very active and served on various boards in the Kadoka area.
Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter Shirley Friedman and her husband Robert "Sam" of Indianapolis, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Anita Cummings (Bob) of Wallace, Nebraska, Russ Friedman (Gail) of Red Bank, New Jersey, Michael Sexton (Judith) of La Vista, Nebraska, Michael Friedman of Indianapolis, Indiana, Terese Masuda (George) of Tokyo, Japan, Danette Oertel (Gary) of Keaau, Hawaii, Kevin Friedman (Lori) of Fountain Valley, California, and Rhonda Sexton-Scher (Scott) of Plano, Texas; eight great-grandchildren, Mitchell Cummings (Amber) and Ryan Cummings all of Wallace, Nebraska, Andrea Dilsaver (Jeff) of Grant, Nebraska, Dane and Kelsey Masuda of Tokyo, Japan, Abbey Friedman of Fountain Valley, California, Adam and Molly Sexton-Scher of Plano, Texas; one great-great-grandson, Keegan Cummings of Wallace, Nebraska; a brother Joe Prochaska of Rapid City, South Dakota; two sisters, Rose Rulon, of Newell, and Ann Eckert of Kadoka; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Russell (1967), Helen was preceded in death by a son, Edward Russell Collins (1934), a daughter Joan Sexton (1990), her parents, two brothers, Adolph and Emil Prochaska, and one sister Mary Beockman.
Helen R. Collins, age 91, of Kadoka, died Saturday, May 01, 2004 at the Kadoka Care Center.
Memorial services were held Thursday, May 6 at 10:00 am at the Presbyterian Church in Kadoka.
Interment was in the Kadoka cemetery.

Kirk Scott Magelky was born April 19, 1973, in the Kadoka Hospital, the son of Gerard "Jerry" and Janet (Strand) Magelky. He attended and graduated from Kadoka High School in 1991.
Kirk worked at several jobs in Kadoka. His first official job was being a lawn mower mechanic for Larry Jensen, from there he worked for Kadoka Standard, Boyd L. Porch, and then for Stanley Porch. He found his true love in trucking and started Magelky Trucking at the age of eighteen. He hauled cattle, grain, and hay. Kirk loved anything to do with turning wrenches and could take apart and put back together anything mechanical. He would take motors apart from tractors to large size trucks. If there was anything mechanical to be fixed, Kirk could do it.
He also loved working at the farm in his shop and teaching his little brother all that he knew. He started his horse herd with a colt from Oliver Willert and would go out and work with his horses. He also had cows and worked together with his dad and brother putting up hay and taking care of the animals on the farm. He had a special way with animals. One of his favorite pastimes was going fishing with his little brother and his friends.
Kirk was a member of the Busy Beavers 4-H Club, the Kadoka Volunteer Fire Department, and the Concordia Lutheran Church.
Grateful for having shared his life are his parents, Gerard and Janet Magelky and his brother Kipp Magelky, all of Kadoka; his paternal grandmother Margaret Magelky of Dickinson, North Dakota; his uncles Lynn Magelky of New England, North Dakota, Bruce Magelky of Camden, Missouri, and Curtis Strand of Dickinson, North Dakota; his aunt Julie Richter of Rapid City, South Dakota; and his cousins Shane, Dustin, Frankie, Mikel, Tracey, Kelly, and Colleen Magelky, and Todd, Jon, Lee, Tammy, Dawn, and Sarah Strand, Tim Richter, Becky Gion, Vronna Mollman, and Gina Molbert; and a host of friends and business associates.
Kirk was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Frank Magelky, his maternal grandparents Selmer and Marjorie Strand, and an uncle Gary Strand.
Kirk Scott Magelky died Friday afternoon, April 26, 2002 as a result of an accident on the family farm located three miles northwest of Kadoka, at the age of 29.
Visitation was held Monday, April 29, 2002 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Kadoka, and one hour preceding the services at the City Auditorium.
Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, at the Kadoka City Auditorium, with Pastor Jill Jackson officiating.
Interment was in the Kadoka cemetery.
A memorial is established.

Lane Johnston was born on April 21, 1930 at Dalzell, South Dakota, the son of William and Cecil (Richards) Johnston. He grew up in the Elm Springs area and attended grade school there, and high school in New Underwood.
He was united in marriage to Carol "Midge" O'Rourke on May 20, 1950. They lived in the Interior area for over 50 years.
Lane loved ranching and was a charter member of the Family Wagon train. He and his wife hosted numerous family trail rides at the ranch. In 1989 he and his team and wagon traveled the entire Centennial West River Wagon Train route. He was a charter member of the Interior Roping Club, served as Jackson County deputy sheriff in the 1960's, and hosted the Crossroads of America Children's tour for underprivileged children for several years.
Lane took great pride and was very active in all of his grandchildren's accomplishments.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Midge Johnston of Interior; three sons, Jerry Johnston and his wife Fae of Interior, South Dakota, Stacey Johnston of Rapid City, and Charles "Chick" Johnston of Interior; four daughters, Terry Jo McDonnell and her husband Steve of Quinn, Angie Charlson and her husband Don of Rochester, Minnesota, Joyce Benne and her husband Sam of Rapid City, and Lila "Lulu" Johnston of Interior; twenty grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers Richard Johnston of Wall, and Gary Johnston of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and three sisters Joann Olien of Rapid City, Jean Colvin of Rapid City, and Sharon Maasch of Sheridan, Wyoming.
Lane was preceded in death by one grandson, Chris "Bubba" Smoot, a daughter in law, Wanda Johnston, and two sisters, Mary Remer and Carol Handley.
Funeral services for Lane Johnston, age 72, of Interior, will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2002 at the Interior school, with Pastor Harold Delbridge officiating.
Lane died of cancer on April 22, 2002 at his son Stacey's home in Rapid City.
Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. all at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Wall.
Interment will be in the Interior cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Hospice of the Black Hills.

John H. "Johnny" Noteboom, age 83, of Philip, died Tuesday, June 07, 2005 at the Philip Nursing Home.
John H. Noteboom was born March 10, 1922, one of twelve children born to Paul and Elizabeth (Verwey) Noteboom. At the age of nine he moved with his family to Okaton, South Dakota, where he grew up and received his education.
He went on a blind date with Elfrieda Stahl in 1940. They were united in marriage on March 5, 1942 in Philip, South Dakota. After their marriage, their first home was a sheep wagon. They herded sheep on the White River for about one year, then moved back to help Elfrieda's parents on their ranch, until purchasing their own ranch in 1947. In addition to ranching, Johnny built dams for Marvin Brooks and worked for the Haakon County Highway Department.
In 1987, John and Elfrieda moved into Philip. While in Philip, Johnny worked at the Philip Livestock Auction as well as Harold's Delivery.
In March 2003, Johnny and Elfrieda moved into the Senechal Apartments, where he remained until December 1, 2004, when he moved into the Philip Nursing Home.
Johnny was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Philip, a Haakon County Commissioner, and a member of the Howes Grazing Association from 1970-1982, where he served as treasurer for six years.
Grateful for having shared his life include his wife Elfrieda Noteboom of Philip; a daughter Judy Heeb and her husband Ken of Philip; three sons Jerry Noteboom and his wife Kathy of Yuma, Arizona, Paul Noteboom and his wife Bonnie of Sioux Falls, and Mike Noteboom and his wife Tina of Philip; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; three brothers Dick Noteboom and his wife Harriett of Okaton, South Dakota; James Noteboom and his wife Helen of Tillamook, Oregon; and Paul Noteboom and his wife Phyllis of Michigan; five sisters Jenn DeYoung of Canton, South Dakota, Bertha Oldenkamp of Pierre, Ett Weaver of Inwood, Iowa, Betty Hauser and her husband Ed of Rock Valley, Iowa, and Rena Boersma of Spearfish; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Johnny was preceded in death by a grandson Cody Noteboom; his parents; two brothers Pete and Casey Noteboom; and a sister Nancy Daum.
Visitation was held 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 9, at the Rush Funeral Home in Philip, and one hour preceding the services at the church on Friday.
Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 10, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Philip, with Pastor Robert Oettel officiating.
Interment was in the Masonic cemetery, Philip.
A memorial is established.

Alice Marie Harnisch was born on July 12, 1935 in Wall, South Dakota, the daughter of William and Emma (Werning) Harnisch.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith.
She attended the Lake Hill School and graduated from Wall High School in 1953. After graduation she attended National School of Business in Rapid City.
Alice was employed with the Boeing Company for thirty-six and one-half years, retiring in May 1993.
She was united in marriage to Chet Clair on August 21, 1993 in Clinton, Washington.
After their retirement they spent their winters at their home in Peoria and their summer months at the home on Whidbey Island, Washington.
She was very devoted to her home and family. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, flowering and golfing.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Chet and stepchildren: Darrell Clair and his wife Shelly, Cheryl Southwick and her husband Dale, Debbie Wales and her husband Jim, six step-grandchildren, Josiah, Laura and Michael Wales, Douglas and Audrey Clair, and Emily Southwick, mother in-law Beatrice Clair of Forest, Mississippi; one brother, Melvin Harnisch of Wall; five sisters, Wilma Harnisch and Mildred Harnisch both of Wall; Margaret Buckles and her husband John of Eugene, Oregon, Helen Slovek and her husband Earl of Philip, and Esther Hoefs and her husband Elry of Rapid City; a sister in-law Yvonne Harnisch of Minneapolis, Minnesota; five nephews; six nieces; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Mathilda Campbell, and one brother Lenard Harnisch.
Memorial services for Alice Clair, age 66 of Peoria, Arizona, and formerly of Wall, were held 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 6, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wall, with Vicar Monty Dell officiating.
Alice died Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at the Hospice Center of the Valley in Peoria.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her memory to Hospice Centers or to a memorial of your choice.

Dean Alden Blom was born January 14,1930, in Chamberlain, South Dakota, the son of Jake and Letha "Thomas" Blom. He grew up and received his education in the Belvidere area, graduating from Belvidere High School in 1948.
After graduation, he started carpentry work with Keith Brakke in the Kadoka area.
He entered into the United States Army on November 6, 1951. He was stationed in Germany, with the 1st Battalion, 2nd Armored Cavalry.
He was honorably discharged on October 9, 1953.
After his discharge he returned to Belvidere and continued working with Keith Brakke in the construction business.
He was united in marriage to Rita Walker on August 9, 1957 in Philip, South Dakota.
After their marriage they continued to reside in Belvidere, and Dean became self-employed in the construction business, building houses in the Belvidere, Kadoka, Murdo, and White River area.
In 1981 Rita and Dean bought the Double H café in Belvidere which they owned and operated, in addition to Dean’s construction business.
In 1984 they moved the café to White River, and renamed it to the Frontier Café, where they resided for five years. While in White River, Dean also did carpentry work in the area.
In 1989, they sold the café and moved back to Belvidere.
Later they bought the Jim Barr farm-ranch northeast of Belvidere which they operated and where they have since resided.
Dean was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed living and operating the farm-ranch, and had a passion for carpentry.
Dean was a member of the Pedersen-Stoddard American Legion Post #144 of Belvidere.
Grateful for having shared his life are is wife Rita Blom of Belvidere; a son Mike Blom and his wife Linda of White River, South Dakota; three grandchildren, Jacob Blom of Parker, and Spencer and Kaitlyn Blom of White River; two brothers, Pete Blom and his wife Virginia of Wall, South Dakota, and Willis Blom and his wife Charlotte of Philip; and one sister Lorraine Mundt and her husband Phil of Lago Vista, Texas.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Shannon Blom, and one sister, Ilene Kimball.
Dean A. Blom, age 72, of Belvidere, South Dakota died Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at the Fort Meade V.A. Medical Center.
Visitation was held 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, April 15, 2002 at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Kadoka, and one hour preceding the services at the church on Tuesday.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at the Belvidere Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Gary McCubbin officiating.
Interment with military honors by the Pedersen-Stoddard American Legion Post #144 of Belvidere was in the Belvidere cemetery.
A memorial is established.
