Robert A. "Bob" Barclay, age 86, of Philip, died Monday, March 18, 2002, at the Kadoka Care Center. Services and interment will be at a later date in the Allegheny cemetery, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Robert A. "Bob" Barclay was born April 30, 1915 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of James and Elizabeth (Thompson) Barclay. He grew up and received his education in the Pittsburgh area.
Robert was united in marriage to Margot Galka on August 9, 1937 in Pittsburgh.
They made their home in Pittsburgh where he worked for Mesta Machine Shop. Bob retired as a foreman after thirty years at the machine shop.
Robert and Margot continued to live in Pittsburgh until moving to Philip in 1991.
His wife Margot preceded him in death on February 26, 2000.
Robert continued to reside in Philip until moving into the Kadoka Care Center on August 24, 2001.
Survivors include three daughters, Roberts Bandi and her husband Russ of Philip, Sandra Petrovich and her husband Tony of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Marline Gerlach and her husband Erwin of Philip; twelve grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren; three sisters, Elizabeth Holbert, Marie Oliver, and Mary Westerwick, all of Pittsburgh.
In addition to his wife, Robert was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Robert A. Barclay, Jr.; a daughter, Lorraine King; three brothers, David Barclay, James Barclay, Jr. and William Barclay; and one sister, Ethel Barclay as a child.

Pearl Couch
age 98 of Philip, South Dakota, died March 13, 2010, at the Philip Nursing Home.
Pearl Reimers Couch was born August 1, 1911, to Henry and Mary (Hansen) Reimers on a farm near Correctionville, Iowa. In 1912, she moved with her parents, brothers, and sisters to a farm near Hartley, Iowa. She grew up there and received her education in rural schools in that community. In 1927, her parents and some of the children moved to a ranch in Haakon County, seven miles north and two miles west of Philip.
Pearl was united in marriage to E. Stanley Couch on April 2, 1932, and to this union four children were born. The family lived northeast of Philip for a few years and then moved in to Philip where she made her home.
Pearl worked for several years for Philip Lumber Company and then was Register of Deeds for Haakon County for 18 years. She sold her home in 1998 and moved to the Senechal Apartments. In 2005 she moved to the Silverleaf Assisted Living and in 2006 she moved to the Philip Nursing Home.
Pearl was a member of the United Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, Bad River Senior Citizens Center and the Progressive Club, all of Philip.
Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter, Beverly Jahner and her husband Cork, of Kerrville, Texas; a niece, Wilma Reese of Primghar, IA; nephew, Jim Moriarty of Philip; a daughter-in-law, Kay Couch of Philip; three grandchildren, Kay (Bill) Anderson and Keith Jahner of Rapid City and David Jahner of Decatur, GA; two step-grandchildren, Rick (Sherry) Mowell of Spearfish and Debbie Hanrahan of Philip; six great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley in 1981; a son, Ronald in 1993; a son and daughter in infancy; her parents, eleven brothers and sisters; two nephews, Tom Moriarty and Dale Hansen, and a step-grandson, Craig Hanrahan.
Visitation was held 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday March 16, at the Rush Funeral Home in Philip and one hour before the services on Wednesday.
Funeral service were held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday March 17, at the United Church in Philip, with Pastor Kathy Chesney officiating.
Interment was in the Masonic cemetery of Philip.
A memorial is established.

Iva I. "Ivy" Brooks, age 88, of Philip, died Thursday March 14, 2002, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at the United Church in Philip, with Pastor Al Brucklacher officiating.
Visitation was held 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, March 18, 2002 at the Rush Funeral Home in Philip, and one hour preceding the service at the church on Tuesday.
Interment was in the Masonic cemetery in Philip.
Iva I. "Ivy" Ellis was born June 27, 1913 at Palmyra, Missouri the daughter of James L. and Amy Irene (Coleman) Ellis.
As a child she moved with her parents to the Cottonwood, SD community. She grew up and received her education in that area.
Ivy was united in marriage to Floyd S. Brooks on August 16, 1934 in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
They made their home on a farm in the Philip area which they operated until moving to their present location on the west edge of Philip.
Her husband, Floyd preceded her in death on April 13, 1977.
Ivy obtained her GED in 1981 and also took the EMT course. She enjoyed dancing and was a member of the Bad River Dance Club and also the Bad River Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed horseback riding, camping and fishing. She loved adventure and enjoyed her ride in a hot air balloon and a glider plane.
Ivy was a member of the United Church of Philip and a former member of the Presbyterian Church where she had served with the Presbyterian ladies.
Grateful for having shared her life are her three sons, Richard D. Brooks of Philip, Robert B. "Bob" Brooks and his wife Lorraine of Rapid City, and Dennis F. Brooks and his wife Maryann of Crystal, Minnesota; two daughter, Jane Coleman and her husband Bob of Tacoma, Washington, and Raynae Richburg and her husband David Buchholz of Irvington, Alabama; fifteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Earl Ellis of Yellville, Arkansas, and Gerald Ellis of Troy, Missouri; three sisters, Pearl Sapp of Philadelphia, Missouri, Betty Vance of Hannibal, Missouri, and Mary Appl of Palmyra, Missouri; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband Ivy was preceded in death by one son, Theodore Brooks; three grandsons, Steve Brooks, and twin grandsons in infancy; one granddaughter, Courtney Richburg; her parents; and one brother, Floyd Ellis.

Marilyn Prokop
age 64 of Kadoka, South Dakota, died July 20, 2008, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.
Marilyn A. Knapp was born April 12, 1944 in Woodward, Oklahoma, to YuVonne and Micky (Huen) Knapp. As a child she moved with her family to a ranch in the Wall–Quinn area. She grew up and graduated from Wall High School in 1962.
As a young girl she worked for the Boeing Aircraft Company at Ellsworth Air Base. In 1963 she attended National School of Business in Rapid City.
On February 6, 1965 she was united in marriage to Veryl D. Prokop in the United Methodist Church in Wall. They made their home in the Kadoka area all of their married life. They lived at the Harold and Mary Schnee Dairy Farm west of Kadoka until 1970 when they moved to their present ranch, one mile north of Kadoka.
In 1973 through 1974 she went to cosmetology school in Rapid City and presently operated her Dakota Glamor Beauty Salon on the ranch.
In 1974 Tammy Ann came to live in their home and Charlie Dale came to join the family in 1977.
Marilyn later completed her bachelor of science degree as a social service major at Oglala Lakota College at Wanblee. She worked for the state of South Dakota as a social worker for eight years. She then taught for the Human Service Department at Oglala Lakota College until the time of her death.
She was an accomplished horse person and trained many rodeo horses. As a competitor she was the 1962 South Dakota High School Girl All-Around Champion and 1962 Little Britches All-Around Champion. She won many other titles and awards as well. She continued to rodeo and train horse up until July 20, 2008. She mentored many young competitors during this time.
She really enjoyed dragging calves to the branding fire as evidenced by her four ushers who are part of the branding crew.
She was also multitalented in sewing, painting, photography, and leather working.
Survivors include her husband Veryl of Kadoka; one daughter Tammy Ann Prokop of Minneapolis; one son Charlie Prokop of Kadoka; one brother Jimmy Knapp and his wife Janice of Metamora, Illinois; a sister-in-law Bonita Harris and her husband Clair of Custer; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents YuVonne and Micky (Huen) Knapp.
Visitation was held 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, at the United Methodist Church in Wall, and one hour preceding the services on Wednesday.
Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, at the United Methodist Church, with Pastor Sonja Wilcox officiating.
Interment will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, at the Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
Memorials may be directed to P.O. Box 164, Kadoka, SD 57543.

Frieda R. Marquardt was born March 20, 1910 on her parent’s farm near Emery, South Dakota. She grew up and received her education in the Emery area.
She was united in marriage to Edward Huether on December 28, 1933 in Yankton, South Dakota.
They made their home on his parents’ homestead for eleven years prior to purchasing and operating a farm-ranch in the Conata area.
Edward preceded her in death on May 1, 1992
Frieda continued to live on the farm-ranch until moving to Rapid City in October 1999.
Frieda was a member of First Lutheran Church in Wall, and Peace Lutheran Church of Rapid City. She served as treasurer of Conata Township for several years, until moving to Rapid City. Frieda enjoyed gardening and loved horses.
Grateful for having shared her life are two daughters, Dorothy Shearer and her husband Lavon Shearer of Wall, and Margaret "Maggie" Bloom and her husband James of Rapid City; seven grandchildren, Glendon Shearer, Greg Shearer, Grant Shearer, Jeff Bloom, Jacci Bloom, Jayne Bloom, and DeAnna Kammerer; thirteen great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Frieda was preceded in death by her parents and ten siblings.
Frieda R. Huether, age 91, of Rapid City, formerly of Wall, died Monday morning, March 11, 2002, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Visitation was held Tuesday, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Wall and one hour preceding the services at the Community Center.
Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 13, 2002 at the Wall Community Center with Rev. Robert Bailey officiating, and Pastor Ray Greenseth assisting.
Interment was in the Wall cemetery.
A memorial is established.

P. Oliver Erdmann
age 80 of Philip, South Dakota, died June 4, 2009, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.
P. Oliver Erdmann, better known as Oliver to his family and friends, was born November 14, 1928, in Wellsville, Kansas, the son of Paul John and Ida M. (Millburn) Erdmann. Oliver graduated from Philip High School on May 15, 1946. On May 21, 1946, Oliver entered the United States Navy, serving until March 19, 1948.
Survivors include one son Gene Erdmann of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota; three daughters Paula Stone and her husband Johnny of Lubbock, Texas, Mitzi Houska of Moscow, Idaho, and Rose Curtis of Gillette, Wyoming; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers James “Spike” Erdmann and his wife Sally of Meade, Oklahoma, and DeWayne Erdmann and his wife Mildred of Claremore, Oklahoma; one sister Mary Alice Powers and her husband Bob of San Bernardino, California; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Oliver was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter-in-law Dianna Erdmann; a son-in-law Ken Houska; and two sisters Maggie and Katie.
An avid fisherman and sports fan, Oliver was well known and like by many in Philip and the surrounding area. He will be missed by all.
Memorial services were held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 9, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Philip, with Father Ray Deisch officiating.
Interment with military honors by the Sturgis Honor Guard was held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, at the Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial is established to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral Services for Kristi K. (Porch) Thompson age 42, of Wanblee were held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday March 12, 2002 at the City Auditorium in Kadoka with Pastor Gary McCubbin officiating.
Kristi died early Friday morning March 8, 2002 at her parents residence in rural Wanblee.
Visitation was held at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Kadoka on Monday March 11, 2002 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. Visitation was also one hour before the services at the City Auditorium on Tuesday.
Interment was in the Kadoka cemetery, Kadoka, S.D.
A memorial is established.
Kristi K. Porch was born June 24, 1959 in Kadoka, South Dakota, the daughter of Stanley and Shirley (Holcomb) Porch.
She grew up on a farm-ranch west of Wanblee and attended Wanblee Public School. She graduated from Kadoka High School in 1977. She then attended National College in Rapid City, graduating in 1979.
As a young lady, she worked for Prairie States
Insurance Company in Rapid City.
She was united in marriage to Roddy Thompson on April 25, 1981, in Kadoka, South Dakota. They made their home on a ranch west of Wanblee all their married life.
She worked nineteen years with the Postal Service of which she served as postmaster at the Wanblee Post Office the last ten years.
She enjoyed spending time with her boys and watching them participate in various sports and rodeos. She was active in rodeo, serving as secretary and being a timer.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband Roddy Thompson of Wanblee; three sons, Travis, Tate, and Ty Thompson, all of Wanblee; her parents, Stanley and Shirley Porch of Wanblee; one brother, Matt Porch and his wife Cheryl and their children, Melissa and Colby of Wanblee; one sister, Kari Porch of Pierre, South Dakota; paternal grandmother, Dorothy Porch of Kadoka; three uncles, Ralph, Boyd, and Roger Porch; three aunts Carol Jeffords, Barbara Toliver, and Patty Groven.
Kristi was preceded in death by her grandfather, Cyrus Porch, and her maternal grandparents, Lee and Waneta Holcomb.

Myron Carl Lindquist was born April 11, 1950 on his parent's ranch in Keldron, South Dakota, the son of Arthur J. and Bertha S. (Lillegaard) Lindquist. He grew up on the ranch and graduated from Lemmon High School in 1968. He then attended South Dakota School of Mines and Technology where he earned a BS degree in geology in 1973. While at the School of Mines, he was very active in the Army ROTC program.
He moved to Kansas where he worked for a mining company as a geologist running a drilling rig. Later he moved to Pierre, South Dakota where he
worked for the Department of Agriculture. In 1979, he moved to Vermillion where he enrolled in the University of South Dakota Law School.
He was united in marriage to Kathleen "Kippy" Udehn on September 12,1981 in Vermillion, South Dakota. On December 18, 1981 he graduated with a Juris Doctorate.
Since that time, he has been employed in private practice and States Attorney Offices in Pennington, Brown, Haakon, Jones and Jackson County, and serving as city attorney for Kadoka and Belvidere.
The family moved into Kadoka in May 1990. Myron was a Lieutenant Colonel in the South Dakota National Guard for eighteen years, serving as a Judge Advocate General with the 109th Engineering Group of Rapid City.
Myron was a member of the Badlands Lions Club, American Legion Post #27, and the South Dakota Bar Association. He was Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of Kadoka. He and his family were actively involved in the Badlands Gymnastics, Wall/Kadoka High School, and the Kadoka High School Gymnastics.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Kathleen "Kippy" Udehn; one son, Zane Lindquist of Kadoka; three daughters, Tara Lindquist of Sioux Falls, Cierra and Skye Lindquist of Kadoka; one brother, Duane Lindquist of Keldron, South Dakota; four sisters, Shirley Drieske of Lemmon, South Dakota, Sylvia Engle of Hettinger, North Dakota, Audrey Kirkpatrick of Rapid Valley, and Beverly Bail of St. Paul, Minnesota; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Myron was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services for Myron Carl Lindquist, age 51, of Kadoka, were held 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2002 at the Kadoka City Auditorium, with Pastor Paul Bly officiating.
Visitation was held 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Kadoka.
Myron died Monday, February 25, 2002, at his residence in Kadoka.
Interment with military honors by the 109th Engineering Group of Rapid City, was 2:00 p.m., Friday at Mt. View cemetery in Rapid City.
A memorial is established.
