Janet K. Joyce age 80 of Wall, died Wednesday, February 20, 2002, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital. Visitation was held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 21, 2002 at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Wall, and one hour preceding the services at the church.
Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 22, 2002 at the United Methodist Church in Wall, with Pastor Jim Cissell officiating.
Interment was 1:30 p.m. at the Black Hills National cemetery, near Sturgis.
A memorial is established.
Janet K. Hart was born June 7, 1921 at Shawnee, Oklahoma, the daughter of U. Fred and Maggie (Hutchins) Hart.
She grew up in the Shawnee area, where she graduated from high school in 1938.
As a young lady, she worked for Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator, later transferring with Bell Telephone to Oakland, California.
She was united in marriage to Deane Joyce on January 15, 1949, at Carmel, California.
In 1949, they moved to Wall, where they owned and operated Clean Rite Cleaners until 1962. They have continued to make their home in Wall.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Wall, and a member of the Carroll McDonald American Legion Auxiliary Post #246 of Wall. She enjoyed bowling and playing bridge, being a member of a local bridge club.
Grateful for having shared her life, are her husband, Deane Joyce of Wall; one son Greg Joyce and his wife Margaret of Thorton, Colorado; a daughter Susan Joyce of Kadoka; one brother James Hart of Shawnee, Oklahoma; four sisters, Velma Coffman and Shirley Slaten both of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Margorie Coffin of Toledo, Ohio, and Barbara Vickers of Odessa, Texas; a sister in-law, Jane Hart of Patterson, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and three sisters.

Hiram J. Woodard was born July 18, 1916 in Kadoka, South Dakota, the son of Hiram J. and Clara Iona (Kelling) Woodard.
He grew up on a ranch near Long Valley, South Dakota. He attended rural school and later graduated from Wanblee High School.
As a young man he worked in construction of earth dams in Durango, Colorado. He served in the United States Army during WWII in the European Theatre.
After his discharge in 1945 he returned to the Long Valley area where he farmed and ranched with his mother and step-father.
He married Dorothy Irene Arnold and they owned and operated a farm-ranch one mile east of Long Valley.
After her death on October 20, 1972, Hiram continued to operate the farm-ranch.
He was united in marriage to Gertrude "Gertie" Buum Richardson on August 15, 1973 in Rapid City.
They continued to operate the farm-ranch until retiring in the fall of 1995, but continued to reside on the farm-ranch until moving into Kadoka in September 1998.
Hiram was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church of Kadoka and a former member of Our Savior Lutheran Church of Long Valley. He was also a member of Pioneer Masonic Lodge #219, and a fifty-six year member of the American Legion Post #240, both of Martin.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Gertrude W. "Gertie" Woodard of Kadoka; two step-sons, Vernon Richardson and his wife Roxy of Longvalley, and Reed Richardson and his wife Joyce of Longvalley; two step-daughters, Carol Duval and her husband Gary of Helena, Montana, and Mary Tieskotter and her husband Bill, of Preston, Minnesota; eight step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clinton "Bud" Woodard and his wife Caye of Scottsburg, Oregon, and Stanley Barber and his wife Helen of Rapid City; one sister, Janice Ruyle of Ouray, Colorado; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to his first wife, Dorothy Irene, Hiram was preceded in death by his parents, Hiram and Iona; his step-father, Stanley Barber; and two step-grandsons, Kevin Duval and Darin Duval.
Funeral services for Hiram J. Woodard, age 85, of Kadoka, were held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 23, 2002, at the Concordia Lutheran Church in Kadoka, with Pastor Paul Bly officiating.
Hiram died Tuesday afternoon, at the Kadoka Care Center.
Visitation was from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 22, at the Rush Funeral Chapel of Kadoka, and one hour preceding the services at the church on Saturday.
Interment with military honors by the American Legion Post #240 of Martin was in the Kadoka cemetery.
A memorial is established.

Russell F. "Pete" Hopkins was born in Estelline, South Dakota on July 23, 1924 to Russell and Mary (Baker) Hopkins. He was the oldest of six children.
He attended schools in Estelline and Watertown, South Dakota. At the age of eighteen, he enlisted in the United States Army, and served with the 70th Tank Battalion during World War II and was discharged in October 1945.
He was united in marriage to Norma Jean Johnston on September 14, 1946 at Watertown, South Dakota and to this union were born four children: Jim, Bob, Jeanie, and Carolyn.
In January 1947 they moved to Kadoka, where he worked at People’s Market. In 1956, the family moved to Sioux Falls where he worked at the Economy Market. In 1959, the family moved back to Kadoka where they purchased the Corner Grocery Store from Charles Mullin. They owned and operated Hopkins Economy Market from August 1959 to October 1975. They owned and operated the Kadoka Sundries from 1975 to 1982.
In 1983, they built the Hopkins Laundromat, which they operated until retiring in October 1994. After retirement, he did carpentry work with Joe Rayman and has taken care of the Kadoka cemetery for several years during the summer months.
Pete was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Kadoka. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #27, also of Kadoka, for fifty-five years. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1273 of Rapid City.
Pete loved sports of all kinds, woodworking, and has been oil painting pictures at the Rock Shadow RV Park in Apache Junction, Arizona, where they have spent the last nineteen winters.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Norma Hopkins of Kadoka; two sons, Jim Hopkins and his wife Pam of Armada, Michigan, and Bob Hopkins and his wife Sarah of Pahrump, Nevada; two daughters, Jeanie Kok and her husband Tim of Whitewood, South Dakota, and Carolyn Trottier of Laona, Wisconsin; sixteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Theresa Merrill of St. Francis, Minnesota; three half-brothers, David Hopkins of Billings, Montana, Dean Hopkins of Newcastle, California, and Daryl Hopkins of Watertown, South Dakota; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and three sisters.
Funeral services for Pete Hopkins, age 77, of Kadoka were held 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 22, 2002 at the Presbyterian Church in Kadoka, with Pastor Gary McCubbin, officiating.
Pete died Monday, February 18, at the Valley Lutheran Hospital in Mesa, Arizona.
Visitation was held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Kadoka and one hour preceding the services at the church on Friday.
Interment with military honors by the Sturgis Honor Guard was held 2:00 p.m., Friday, at the Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis, with Pastor Moe Greiner officiating.

Grace D. Wasser
age 94 of Hartford, South Dakota, died May 20, 2008, at the Leisure Living Assisted Living in Hartford, South Dakota.
Grace D. Dooley was born October 17, 1913, in Ramona, South Dakota, the daughter of David and Theresa (Schuster) Dooley. She grew up in the Ramona area and graduated from Ramona High School in 1931. She obtained her teaching certificate from Eastern State Normal School at Madison. She then taught at rural schools in the Ramona area for two years. In 1936 she moved to Sioux Falls where she worked as a dental assistant for five years for Dr. H.J. Carleton.
Grace was united in marriage to Lloyd L. Wasser on May 29, 1942, at Hattiesburg, Mississippi. From 1942 until 1945, she worked as a dental assistant at the Sioux Falls Air Base while her husband was serving in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific.
They made their home in Sioux Falls until 1948 when they moved to Salem, South Dakota. Later they moved to a farm near Montrose, South Dakota, which they operated until 1970 when they moved into Hartford.
Her husband Lloyd preceded her in death on December 1, 1978. Gracie continued to make her home in Hartford until 2007 when she moved into the Leisure Living Assisted Living Center in Hartford, where she has since resided.
Music was a big part of Gracie’s life, whether it was listening or playing the piano and organ, she always had music.
Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Dan Wasser and his wife, LaVonne, of Decorah, Iowa; her three daughters, Gayle Rush and her husband, Jack, of Philip, South Dakota, Patricia Wasser of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Peggy Scott and her husband, Dean, of Adel, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one sister Tessie Kruck of Apple Valley, Minnesota; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband Lloyd, Grace was preceded in death by her parents; one brother David Dooley; six sisters Marie Gantz, Frances Dooley, Nan Whitlock, Evelyn Phillips, Genevieve Nighbert, and Kathleen Allen.
Visitation was held Monday, May 26, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. George Catholic Church in Hartford, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
Mass of Chrisitian Burial was held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, at St. George Catholic Church in Hartford with Father David Desmond as celebrant and Father Gregory Tschakert as con-celebrant.
Interment was in St. Michael cemetery, Sioux Falls.
In lieu of flowers a memorial is established to the St. George Catholic Church Building Fund in Hartford.

Anna Marie Dartt, better known as Marie by her family and friends, was born May 10, 1912 on her parent’s homestead near Belvidere, South Dakota, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Trantina) Kodet.
She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Belvidere High School, and later attended Springfield Normal in Springfield, South Dakota. As a young girl she worked with her parents on the family farm.
She taught rural school in the Creighton area.
Marie was united in marriage to Lysle Dartt on March 25, 1940 in Rapid City, South Dakota.
They made their home in Wall all their married life. They built and operated the Rest Haven Motel until selling it in 1956. Marie worked as a clerk at the Wall Drug Store from 1956 until retiring in 1992. After her husband’s retirement from the post office in 1969, they would spend the winter months in Arizona and returned to Wall in the spring.
Her husband Lysle preceded her in death on August 26, 1985.
She continued to return to Arizona in the winter and back to Wall in the summer.
In October 1999 Marie moved into the Good Samaritan Center in New Underwood, where she has since resided.
Marie was a member of United Methodist Church in Wall, the Wall Senior Citizens, Royal Neighbors, and Live and Learn Extension Club, all of Wall, and the Benson Arizona Senior Citizens.
Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter Shari Ochs and her husband Ron of Wall; two grandchildren, Janae Hagberg and her husband Dan of Maple Grove, Minnesota, and Justin Keyser and his wife Cheryl of Burke, South Dakota; two great-grandchildren, Hanna Hagberg and Tayler Keyser; two step-great-grandchildren, Renee Ochs of St. Paul, MN, and Chris Ochs and his wife Gretchen and their daughter, Ella of St. Paul; one brother Ed Kodet and his wife Marjorie of Belvidere; and one sister, Helen Larsen of Neillsville, Wisconsin; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Marie was preceded in death by daughter, Beverly Dartt in 1941, and her parents.
Anna Marie Dartt, age 89, of Wall, died Sunday, February 17, 2002 at the Good Samaritan Center in New Underwood.
Visitation was held from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20, at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Wall.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 21, 2002, at the United Methodist Church in Wall, with Pastor Jim Cissell, officiating.
Interment was 1:30 p.m., Thursday, February 21, 2002 at the Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis.
A memorial is established.

Francis Charles Guptill was born August 18, 1922, on his parents ranch southeast of Cactus Flat, the son of Roy and Ruth (Ellis) Guptill.
They lived on various ranches in the Jackson and Washabaugh counties during his early childhood.
The family moved to a dairy farm near Elkhorn, Wisconsin where he attended three years of grade school before they returned to the Green Valley community south of Interior. He attended Green Valley Rural School before graduating from Wanblee High School.
After graduation, he attended Dakota Wesleyan College in Mitchell. While in college he signed up for the V-12 Navy Program. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1946.
After graduating from Officer’s Training he was united in marriage to Wanda Gropper on January 18, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois.
After his honorable discharge in 1946, they made their home in Brookings where he graduated with a degree in Agriculture Engineering. They moved to Hot Springs where he worked for the Soil Conservation for two years. They then moved back to the Green Valley Community where they ranched and raised their family. In 1982 they moved into Interior where they continued to farm and ranch with Perry and Caroline until the time of his death.
Francis was a member of the Interior Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder for many years. He was a very civic-minded person, serving on many boards and organizations, including the American Legion Post #240 of Martin and the Interior Fairview cemetery Board.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Wanda of Interior; two sons, Perry Guptill and his wife Caroline of Interior and Dale Guptill and his wife Valerie of Interior; two daughters, Sheryl Trohkimoinen and her husband Bob of Vale, South Dakota and Alice Jones and her husband Dave of Thermopolis, Wyoming; twelve grandchildren, Jason, Justin, Kasey and Katie Jones, Andy, Bart, Brett, Becky, and Debra Guptill, Toby and Tyler Trohkimoinen, and Jill St. John and her husband Jason; two great-grandchildren, Ezriella Rose St. John and Alexander Blair St. John; two sisters, Carol Tystad and her husband Bob of Gordon, Nebraska, and Jean Cutler and her husband Lee of Piedmont, South Dakota; and three sisters-in-law, Virginia Guptill of Rapid City, Lorraine Guptill of Modesto, California, and Dolores Sharp of Longvalley; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Francis was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Earl and Bill Guptill, and his stepfather, Jim Case.
Francis C. Guptill, age 79, of Interior died Saturday morning at his residence in Interior.
Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2002 at the Interior School Gym, with Pastor Hoshea Morley and Pastor Jason St. John officiating.
Visitation was held 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 19, at the Rush Funeral Home in Philip, and one hour preceding the services at the school on Wednesday.
Interment was at the Interior Fairview cemetery in Interior.
The family request memorials be directed to the Interior Presbyterian Church and the Interior Fairview cemetery.

Roger Fred Barber was born May 6, 1950 in New Underwood, South Dakota, the son of Edgar and Amy (Erickson) Barber.
He grew up on the ranch where he presently lives and received his education at Harmony Rural School. After fifth grade he attended school in Wall, graduating from Wall High School in 1968.
He attended Sioux Falls College for one year and then attended Western Iowa Technical School in Sioux City, Iowa.
Roger was united in marriage to Linda L. Anderson on September 5, 1970 in Wall, South Dakota.
They made their home on his parents ranch where he ranched with his father and later with his brother Paul. Later Roger and Linda purchased the ranch which they continued to operate until his death.
Roger was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wall, where he had served on various committees and also taught church school. He served on the Wall School Board, and was a member of Farm Bureau, American Quarter Horse Association, American Ag Movement, Northern Agri-Fuels, the South Dakota Charolais Association, the Wall Golf Course, and the Lake Waggoner Golf Course.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Linda Barber of Owanka; three daughters, Christi Michael and her husband George, and their children, Kyle, Dustin, Cyrissa, and Emma of Owanka; Trisha Eisenbraun and her husband Jim of Creighton, and Niki Barber of Spearfish; his mother, Amy Barber of Rapid City; one brother, Paul Barber and his wife Pat of Rapid City; two sisters, Susan Reed and her husband Gary of Rapid City, and Beverly Outtrim and her husband Gary of Leola, South Dakota; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his father Edgar.
Funeral services for Roger F. Barber, age 51, of Owanka, South Dakota, were held 2:00 p.m., February 12, 2002 at the United Methodist Church in Wall, with Pastor Jim Cissell and officiating.
Roger died Friday morning, February 8, 2002 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Visitation was held 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, February 11, 2002 at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Wall.
Interment was held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, preceding the funeral services, at the Lakeside cemetery in Owanka.
A memorial is established.
