Anna K. Hanson was born April 18, 1910, the daughter of Oluf and Petrina (Olson) Hanson on their homestead at Dowling, South Dakota in northwest Haakon County.
She grew up and attended country school near home and later graduated from Philip High School in 1929. She immediately went to work at the Dime Store and restaurants and later spent thirteen years working at the Drug Store in Philip.
In 1946 she moved to Kansas City where she worked at a drug store a short time before moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma to manage a Ladies Ready to Wear. After a couple years she bought a dress shop in St. Louis and operated that for several years.
Anna was united in marriage to Jess Davis in 1951 in Missouri. Jess passed away in 1964. She then went to work for the Defense Mapping Agency at the Aerospace Center, USAF, where she worked until she retired at the age of 76.
For several years she spent most of her time traveling to Hawaii, Alaska, Norway, Newfoundland and other shorter trips.
In 1990 she moved back to Philip to be closer to family and has lived there since. The last eight years she has been going to Las Vegas for the winter.
Anna attended the United Church of Philip, was a member of the First Christian Church in St. Louis, Missouri, Order of the Eastern Star Philip Chapter 100, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Philip Senior Citizens.
Anna was an outgoing and energetic person who enjoyed people and had many friends.
Anna became ill in February 2002 and has been in and out of hospitals and nursing homes since. Anna died Thursday morning, August 29, at Meadowbrook Manor in Rapid City.
Grateful for having shared her life are her step-daughter Vera Gay Paddison; a grandson Stephen Paddison and his wife all of Virginia Beach, Virginia; her brother Ingval Hanson of Cedar Edge, Colorado; a sister, Lily Kruse of Philip; numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband Jess, Anna was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Arlo, Oscar, Hans T. and Harry Hanson; and a step-daughter Diane Belle.
Closed casket visitation was held from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, September 2, at the Rush Funeral Home in Philip.
Funeral services were 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3, at the United Church in Philip, with Pastor Jeff Tippner officiating.
Interment with an Eastern Star service was at the Masonic cemetery in Philip.
A memorial is established to the Haakon County Prairie Transportation.

Marlin Jensen was born December 17, 1922 on the family farm in Viborg, SD the son of Henry Emanual and Helga Olivia (Grytvik) Jensen. He attended rural school near Viborg and graduated from Viborg High School in 1940. Marlin proudly served in the U.S. Army (555th Anti-Aircraft Automatic Weapons Battalion) in WWII (1943-1945) and was active in the Battle of the Bulge as well as freeing the concentration camps.
After his discharge in December 1945 Marlin moved to Wall, SD and worked on both the Leonel Jensen and Roy Schull ranches.
He was united in marriage to Dora Mae Gravatt on May 22, 1948 in Rapid City, SD.
Marlin was involved in many "new" technologies over the years including owning a television and radio repair shop, working for Golden West Telephone and the City of Wall. Following his retirement Marlin and Dora Mae spent much of their time on the road, traveling to Norway and Europe on multiple occasions, as well as visiting their children and grandchildren. Marlin also was an award-winning wood-carver and was more than happy to teach anyone with an interest. He was a lifetime member of the Carroll McDonald American Legion Post 246 of Wall, SD and the F.J. Willuweit VFW Post 9120 of Quinn, SD. Marlin was very active in the Sons of Norway and he and Dora Mae danced many a mile in the Norwegian folk-dancing tradition.
Marlin was preceded in death by his parents, sister Sophie in 1955, brother Norman in October 2001 and sister Eldene in July 2002.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 54 years, Dora Mae Jensen of Wall; children Gary and Kathy Jensen of Battleground, WA, Gale and Tina Jensen of Valley Home, CA, and Robin (Jensen) and Nick Feller of Englewood, CO. Grandchildren include Brandt Jensen and Tia (Jensen) Wilson of Washington, Holly (Jensen) Page, Heidi Jensen and Jeremy Jensen of California, Nicholas Jensen Feller of Colorado, and great-granddaughter Kiera Wilson of Washington. In addition, he leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, including his sister Sophie’s daughters Nancy Silva and Gerri Anne Stevens, who he searched for over many years and reunited with them in 1994.
Funeral services for Lyle Marlin Jensen, age 79, of Wall, were Thursday, August 22, 2002, at the United Methodist Church in Wall with Pastor Jim Cissell officiating.
Marlin died Sunday, August 18, 2002 in route to Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Visitation was 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21, at the Rush Funeral Home in Wall, and one hour preceding the services at the church on Thursday.
Interment with military honors by the Sturgis Honor Guard was 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis.
A memorial is established.

Doreen D. Henderson was born May 10, 1932, in Hettinger, North Dakota, the daughter of Basil and Lessi (Eggen) Henderson.
The family lived in Lodgepole, North Dakota, Bison, South Dakota, Spearfish, and Rapid City, before moving to Philip in August 1939. She grew up in Philip and graduated from Philip High School in 1950.
Doreen was united in marriage to Robert Lee Wampler in 1950. To this union were born two sons, Darrell and Richard.
They made their home in Philip where Doreen worked for her father in the Henderson Insurance Company. In 1975, she moved to Rapid City. She was employed as a secretary for Duhamel Broadcasting for the last twenty-five years.
Dareen was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapid City.
Doreen died Saturday morning, August 10, 2002 at the Meadowbrook Manor in Rapid City, SD.
Grateful for having shared her life are two sons, Richard Lee "Dick" Wampler and his wife Margaret of Carbondale, Colorado, and Darrell Ray "Buck" Wampler of Brandon, South Dakota; four grandchildren Jacob, Annie Rose, Michael, and Matthew; and one brother Vincent "Mick" Henderson and his wife Shirley of Rapid City, South Dakota.
Doreen was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 12, at the Rush Funeral Home in Philip, and one hour preceding the services at the church.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 13, at the First Lutheran Church in Philip, with Pastor Paul Bly officiating.
Interment will be in the Masonic cemetery in Philip.
A memorial is established.

Janet Johnson was born March 29, 1948 at Camp Lejeune Marine Base in Jacksonville, North Carolina, the daughter of Virginia (Smith) and M.C. Johnson.
As an infant the family moved to South Dakota. She spent her childhood years in South Dakota, except for one year, at the age of nine, when she lived with her grandparents in North Carolina. Janet received her education in Philip, graduating from Philip High School in 1967.
On December 31, 1967 she married Theodore "Bill" Craven at Philip, South Dakota and to that marriage were born two children, Patrick and Michelle.
In 1977 she attended college at Springfield, South Dakota and received her degree in business management. After receiving her degree, she and the children moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota where she held many managerial positions.
In 1982, they moved back to Philip where she operated her parents’ farm northeast of Philip.
She and the children moved into Philip after the sale of the farm. Janet and her mom, Virginia, opened V.J.’s Refinishing which she operated off and on until her death.
Her children and grandchildren were the joy of her life. She spoke often of happy childhood memories, especially times with her maternal and paternal grandparents, and her love of horses.
Grateful for having shared her life are one son, Patrick Craven of Rapid City; two daughters, Michelle Brenner of Nowlin, and Sheila Kahl and her husband Robert of Peidmont; six grandchildren, Terri Craven, Travis and Tessa Brenner, and Michael, Kathleen, and Kelsie Kahl; her parents Virginia and Arnold Wolden of Philip; her father, M.C. Johnson of Philip; six brothers Michael Johnson of McHenry, Illinois, Gene Wolden of Billings, Montana, Roger Wolden of Crystal Lake, Illinois, Terry Wolden of Rapid City, Brian Johnson of McHenry, Illinois, and Andy Johnson of Arlington Heights, Illinois; three sisters, Linda Wolden of Rapid City, Kathy Johnson of Arlington Heights, Illinois, and Donna Johnson of McHenry, Illinois; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Janet was preceded in death by two brothers, George Johnson and Mark Wolden, and a son in-law Travis Brenner.
Janet L. Craven, age 54, of Philip, died Saturday, July 27, 2002 at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.
Visitation was 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, at the Rush Funeral Home in Philip, and one hour preceding the services at the church on Thursday.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 1, at the Community Evangelical Free Church in Philip, with Pastor Gary Wahl officiating.
Interment was in the Masonic cemetery, Philip.
A memorial is established.

Lois J. Prokop, age 90, of Kadoka, died Thursday, October 13, 2005, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.
Lois J. Prokop was born February 1, 1915 in Cherry County, Nebraska. She passed away October 13, 2005 in Philip. As a baby, her family, Orville and Hazel Hampton, moved to Wellsburg, SD in Haakon County. They lived in the Philip, Kadoka, Wanblee area for many years. Lois graduated from Philip High School and went on to marry Otto F. Prokop in 1932. They lived on the last place to be homesteaded in Jackson County and eventually added land and cattle to create the Half Diamond Seven Ranch. The Half Diamond Seven was known for good Hereford cattle and warm hospitality and Lois' kitchen fed many a hand, neighbors, family and people just passing through the area.
Lois has a daughter, Bonita, who ranches in Custer, SD with her husband Clair. Her son, Veryl, ranches on the home place and near Kadoka with his wife Marilyn. Remaining family includes four grandchildren, Sheri (Harris) Webster and her husband Ray of Custer, SD, Jane Harris and Dean Hitshew, also of Custer, SD, Tammy Ann Prokop of the Minneapolis, Minnesota area and Charlie Prokop, Kadoka, SD. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Anthony Webster, Rapid City, SD, Andrew Webster, Spearfish, SD, Joey Harris-Phillips, Custer, SD, Jenna Harris, Custer, SD, Jake Harris-Raver, Custer, SD and Jazmin Hitshew, Custer, SD. She is blessed with two great-great-grandchildren, Derek and Addison. Brothers and sisters include Harry Hampton, Redondo Beach, California, Mary Tucker and husband Charles, Tillamook, Oregon, Rose Lewis and husband Gil, Bryan, Ohio and Russ Hampton and his wife Patricia of Keizer, Oregon. She loved and was loved by many nieces and nephews.
Lois was a wonderful historian and spent many hours assisting people with family information, and doing research on the history of the Jackson and Haakon County areas. She helped to author the Jackson-Washabaugh County History Books and also authored the book Women, Horses and Show 'Biz, a biography of Madge and Grace Runyan, champion lady bronc riders and trick riders in the early 1900's. Lois also wrote for the Kadoka Press for many years keeping the area informed on the Wells Community news. She wrote numerous articles over the years for area papers and was instrumental in the founding of the Kadoka Museum. A member of the South Dakota Historical Society, Lois was also a proud member of the South Dakota Stock Growers Association.
Lois was a charter member of the Kadoka Senior Citizens and served in many capacities at the Concordia Lutheran Church including being an avid quilter with the Ladies Guild. She loved playing cards, especially Hand and Foot with her friends at the "Apartments". She and Otto spent many hours producing music at dances and for the family at get-togethers, Otto on the fiddle and harmonica, Lois playing the banjo. They loved to square dance and spent many evenings attending dances around Western South Dakota and especially the old-time community picnics and dances. The old Sauser house shook with the sound of foot stomping and fiddle music.
Lois was active in the ranching business until her death and loved her cattle and horses. Her hobbies included numerous handcrafts with thousands of stitches crocheted and many quilts gracing the homes of friends and family. She was also an able handyman, rebuilding broken appliances and little projects around the house. Lois learned to run a computer at age 88 and enjoyed keeping in touch with family and friends through technology. Her favorite pastime was working crossword puzzles and she was rarely caught without a puzzle at hand and a good sharp pencil.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband Otto, parents Orville and Hazel Hampton, brothers Leslie and Don Hampton and sister, Violet.
Visitation was held 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m on Sunday, October 16, at the Rush Funeral Home in Kadoka, and one hour preceding the services at the church on Monday.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 17, at the Concordia Lutheran Church in Kadoka, with Pastor Ann Schlossnagle officiating.
Interment will be in the Kadoka cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial is established.

Eva Lanning Shull, 72, formerly of Laurel and Wall, South Dakota, passed away Saturday morning, January 24, 2004 following a short fight with cancer.
Eva was born on June 19, 1931 in Wall, South Dakota, a daughter of Clair and Gladys (Kitterman) Lanning. She was raised on a farm north of Wall and attended school there, graduating from Wall High School..
In November of 1950, she married Robert Lefler. To this union were born four children, Marilyn, Karolyn, Bruce, and Bobbie.
Eva lived in Laurel for a number of years before returning to Wall. In December of 1973 she married Clyde "Sonny" Shull in South Dakota. He preceded her in death. She enjoyed playing cards, quilting, doing jigsaw puzzles and word books.
Eva is survived by her four children, Marilyn Minch of Laurel, Karolyn (Craig) Christner of Cozad, Nebraska, Bruce (Rhonda) Lefler of Laurel, and Bobbie (Rick) Carmack of Billings; six grandchildren, Koby (Jason) Minch O'Rear, Mandy Christner, Stacy Lefler, Andrea Lefler, Kelsey Minch and Derrick Lefler; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Lanning of Imperial Beach, California; and numerous friends and relatives in the Laurel and Wall areas.
Eva was preceded in death by her mother, father, and a sister, Velma Dixon.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 27 at the Smith Chapel-Laurel. A second memorial service was 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 30, at the United Methodist Church in Wall, with Pastor Jim Cissell officiating. Interment was in the Wall cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Horizon Hospice Home in Billings.
Local arrangements are with the Rush Funeral Chapel in Wall, South Dakota.

Boyd Dykema, age 73, of Murdo, died Saturday afternoon May 13, 2006 at the Fort Meade V.A. Medical Center.
Boyd Dykema was born November 23, 1932, at Chamberlain, South Dakota, the son of Hyltje and Sadie (Oldenkamp) Dykema. He grew up on a farm north of Okaton and received his education in that community.
As a young man he joined the United States Army, training at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas and Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. He then served in the heavy artillery division in Germany for thirteen months during the Korean War.
While in the service he was united in marriage to Joyce Finck on November 27, 1953, at Murdo. After his honorable discharge, they made their home on the family farm north of Okaton where they resided until moving into Kadoka, in 1958. Later they moved to Murdo, where they made their home until the time of his death. While in Murdo he worked in the trucking business and later went to work for the Jones County Maintenance Department, a position he held until his retirement in 1996.
Boyd was an avid baseball fan and loyal supporter of the Atlanta Braves.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Joyce Dykema of Murdo; three daughters and their spouses, Sherry and Bill Philips of Murdo, Lora and Brett Gibbs of LaMoure, North Dakota and Cindy and Mike Jost of Murdo; four grandchildren, Brooke and Suzie Jost and Georgie and Billy Gibbs; one brother, John Dykema and his wife, Ramona of Lyman, Wyoming; three sisters, Berdina Huston of Sturgis, Ruth Royer of Sturgis, and Mary Elhers and her husband Dave of Edmond, Washington; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Boyd was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Ben Dykema.
Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m.CDT Wednesday, May 17, at the United Methodist Church in Murdo, with Pastor Bob Duemig officiating.
Visitation was held one hour preceding the services at the church on Wednesday.
Interment with military honors will be 2:30 p.m. MDT, Wednesday at the Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis.
A memorial is established.

Myrna L. Boal was born December 22, 1920 to Hugh and Anna (Rishel) Boal on a farm north of Vivian, South Dakota.
As a young girl she attended country school for three and one-half years before her parents moved into the town of Vivian. The rest of her school years were spent in the Vivian school from which she graduated.
She was united in marriage to Wilmer Abel on March 18, 1939 at Valentine, Nebraska. They made their home in Presho, South Dakota, until the fall of 1951 when the family moved to Murdo. While in Murdo, she worked in the REA office. In the fall of 1955, the family moved to Midland. In 1956 she started working at the Midland Bank, a position she held until 1983 when she retired. From 1985 to 1990 they spent the winter months in Tucson, Arizona.
After her husband’s death on December 20, 1991, she continued to reside in Midland.
Because of health reasons she moved to the Silverleaf Assisted Living in Philip in September 2001.
Grateful for having shared her life are two daughters, Miriam Schilling and her husband Ivan of Midland, and Kay Payne and her husband Norman of Philip; four grandchildren Craig Schilling and his wife Lynnette of Mitchell, Camilla Henle and her husband Wayne of Gillette, Wyoming, Carmelita Chase and her husband Ray of Sheridan, Wyoming, and Kaelyn McSherry and her husband Chris of Rapid City; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Reita Bechard of Presho; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband Wilmer "Abe", Myrna was preceded in death by a son Robert Abel; a grandson Doug Payne; her parents; and three sisters, Vera Jackson, Marjan Kearns, and Orale Boal as an infant.
A memorial has been established.
Funeral services for Myrna L. Abel, age 81 of Midland, SD, were 10:00 a.m. Monday July 29, 2002, at the Open Bible Church in Midland with Pastor Dan Carlson officiating.
Myrna died Thursday morning, July 25, 2002 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Visitation was 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday July 28, 2002 at the Rush Funeral Home in Philip, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. all at the Rush Funeral Home in Philip.
Interment was at the Midland cemetery.

Alan Lee Amiotte was born December 30, 1943, the son of Albert and Vera (Weaver) Amiotte. He was raised on a ranch south of Interior on Bear Creek. He received his first six years of education at Lone Tree School in former Washabaugh County and finished his education in Interior School, graduating in 1962.
After graduation he remained on the ranch with his parents.
He was united in marriage to Asta Garner on June 27, 1963 at Rapid City. After their marriage they purchased the Alex Amiotte ranch where they have since resided.
Alan’s first love was horses. He was an accomplished horseman. He ranched and rodeoed extensively and passed on his love for both, to his children.
Alan died Sunday morning, July 21, 2002 at his home in Interior.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Asta Amiotte of Interior; three sons, Clint Amiotte and his wife Shari of Interior, Tucker Amoitte of Interior, and Kyle Amiotte and his wife Tricia of Black Hawk; a daughter Dondee Krolikowski and her husband Jeff of Interior; five grandchildren, Keely, Kray, and Krockett Krolikowski, Taylor Amiotte, and _________ Amiotte; one brother, Norman Amiotte and his wife Jean of Interior; a sister Bonnie Renner of Spearfish; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson Kall James Krolikowski.
Funeral services for Alan Lee Amiotte, age 58, of Interior were held 4:00 p.m. Thursday, July 25, at the Interior School Gym with Pastor Dave Morrison officiating.
Interment was 7:30 p.m. at the family cemetery on the ranch.
A memorial is established.
