Helen E. Mach was born December 31, 1916, the daughter of John and Anna (Thaler) Mach, on her parent’s farm in Bon Homme County near Vodnany, South Dakota. She grew up on the farm and attended rural school and graduated from Wagner High School in 1934.
Helen was united in marriage to Clifford Hilton on January 11, 1935 in Mitchell, South Dakota.
They lived in various places in eastern South Dakota before moving to Belvidere in 1944 where Clifford managed the Tri-State Elevator and Helen was the bookkeeper.
After Clifford’s death on January 5, 1946, she continued to reside in Belvidere.
Helen was united in marriage to James "Bruce" Dunker of Belvidere on September 14, 1946 in Rapid City. They moved to his farm-ranch southeast of Interior in 1949. In 1954 they moved into Interior where they purchased a package liquor store, which Helen operated and Bruce worked for the National Park Service. In 1968 they sold the store and moved back to the farm-ranch southeast of Interior. Bruce preceded her in death on March 13, 1973. She moved into Interior where she resided until moving into the Senechal apartments in Philip in 2001. Later she moved into the Silverleaf Assisted Living Center in Philip before moving into the Philip Nursing Home where she has since resided.
Helen was an expert seamstress, beginning by sewing button holes for a penny a piece during the early years and continued to design and sew wedding dresses, coats, dresses and countless children’s clothes. Helen crocheted miles of thread into doilies, table clothes and bedspreads. She designed and quilted a quilt for each of her children.
Helen especially enjoyed the challenge of growing flowers in the Badlands gumbo. Her beautiful flower gardens were a showplace to all who passed by.
Helen spent countless hours collecting rocks, especially the Fairburn agate in the rock beds surrounding Interior.
Helen was an avid reader and loved word games of any kind. She made it a point to work and complete the daily crossword puzzle and would challenge anyone to a game of scrabble
Helen was a member of the Interior Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Women, Current Events Club, the Interior Senior Citizens, and the Bad River Senior Citizens of Philip.
Grateful for having shared her life are four sons, Russell Hilton and his wife Audrey of Sturgis, Billy Hilton and his wife Deanna of Black Hawk, Roger Hilton of Interior, and Peter Dunker and his wife Betty of Wall; three daughters, JoAnn Sell and her husband Frank of Mitchell, Marilyn Gartner and her husband Ronald of Interior, and Lessie Schoenfelder and her husband Charles of Boise, Idaho; eighteen grandchildren; thirty-eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Esther Payer of Wagner, South Dakota, and Thelma McDowell of Las Vegas, Nevada.
In addition to her husbands Clifford Hilton and Bruce Dunker, Helen was preceded in death by one son Jerry Hilton, two grandchildren; her parents; two brothers William and Arthur Mach; and one sister Josephine Ptak.
Helen died Wednesday, February 19, 2003, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.
Visitation was held from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 23, at the Rush Funeral Home in Philip and one hour preceding the services at the church on Monday.
A Service of Witness to the Resurrection was held 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 24, at the Interior Presbyterian Church with Pastor Jeff Tippner officiating.
Interment was in the Interior cemetery.
A memorial is established to the Interior Presbyterian Church.

Helmuth H. Denke was born May 13, 1923 on a farm–ranch near Creighton, South Dakota, the son of Henry and Esther (Eisenbraun) Denke.
He grew up on the farm–ranch and attended school in that community. As a young man he worked with the Civilian Conservation Corp working on many projects in western South Dakota.
Helmuth was united in marriage to Marie Hamann on November 9, 1946 at Creighton, South Dakota.
They made their home on a farm–ranch near the Cheyenne River ten miles north of Creighton. They owned and operated the ranch until 1994 when they moved into Wall. They continued to live in Wall until November 2003 when they moved to Rapid City where they have since resided.
They enjoyed spending the winter months in Arizona as well as traveling in their motor home through many states in the United States.
Helmuth was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Creighton where he served as an elder. He served on the township board and was a member of the Good Sam’s Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Marie Denke of Rapid City; three sons, David Denke and his wife June of Casper, Wy. Charles Denke and his wife, Donna of Thornton, Colorado; Russell Denke of Chamberlain, SD; three daughters, Marcia Huether and her husband, Wayne of Interior; SD; Kathy Kidd of Thornton, Colorado; Julie Kaiser and her husband, Larry of Rapid City; seventeen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; four brothers, Harold Denke and his wife, Hilda of Rapid City; Erhart Denke and his wife Alice of Sturgis; Julius Denke and his wife, Ruth of Rapid City; Eugene Denke and his wife Marge of Butler, Missouri; a sister, Clara Crose of Des Moines, Iowa; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Helmuth was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Adolph John Denke.
Helmuth died Tuesday afternoon March 9, 2004 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City.
Visitation was held from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday March 12, 2004 at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Wall.
Funeral services for Helmuth H. Denke, age 80, of Rapid City, and formerly of Wall, were held 10:00 a.m. Saturday March 13, 2004 at the First Lutheran Church in Wall, with Vicar Monty Dell officiating.
Interment was in the Wall cemetery.
A memorial is established.

Carol May Bachman was born March 1, 1934, in Faith, South Dakota, the daughter of Edwin and Genevieve (Keegan) Bachman.
When she was seven years of age her mother died and she was raised by her maternal grandparents James and Ethel Keegan. Carol grew up and received her education in Faith, graduating from Faith High School in 1952.
Carol was united in marriage to Edward J. McQuirk on September 19, 1952 in Faith.
They made their home in Faith. They owned and operated the Mobil Bulk Service as well as Ed’s Ranch Supply.
Her husband Ed preceded her in death on July 4, 1977.
She and her children continued to operate the business until the early 1980’s when she sold the business. She continued to reside in Faith until moving to Rapid City in 1985. She attended computer school for one year. She worked at various jobs in Rapid City. In the late 1980’s she moved back to Faith when she took care of her grandma Ethel Keegan until her death in 1991. She moved back to Rapid City in 1991 where she worked until retiring in the fall of 2002.
Carol was an avid bowler and enjoyed bowling on various leagues as well as participating in various bowling tournaments. She was a member of the Minneluzahan Senior Citizens Center of Rapid City.
She enjoyed ceramics, painting, and photography, and often worked the arts and crafts booth at the Central States Fair.
Survivors include two sons, Phil McQuirk of Vale, South Dakota, and Ralph McQuirk and his wife Julie of Philip; two daughters Genevieve "Genny" McQuirk of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, and Nella Love and her husband Donnie of Amarillo, Texas; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters Nelda Byrne and her husband Pat of Mill Iron, Montana, Judy Fenton and her husband Don of Clancy, Montana, and Doris Fay Reede and her husband Warren of Faith; one brother James Bachman and his wife Peggy of Huntington Beach, California; three half-sisters, Edythe "Tiny" Mowell and her husband Jack of Mexia, Texas, Patty Bachman of Newell, and Sherry Hart and her husband Richard of Mexia, Texas; three half-brothers, Lyle Bachman and his wife Sandy of Gillette, Wyoming, John Bachman and his wife Lil of Eagle Butte; and Cecil Bachman of Black Hawk; one step-brother Gene Royer of Las Vegas, Nevada; numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Carol was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister Pearl Drake.
Mass of Christian Burial for Carol May McQuirk, age 68, of Rapid City, formerly of Faith, was held 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 21, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis, with Father Arnold Kari as celebrant.
Carol died Monday, February 17, 2003, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Visitation was held 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m at the church.
Interment was at the Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis.

Tessa Mary-Lee Brenner, age 3, of Midland, SD died Saturday, February 15, 2003 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 20, at the American Legion Hall in Philip with Pastor Gary Wahl officiating.
Closed casket visitation was held one hour preceding the services at the Legion Hall on Thursday.
Interment was in the Masonic cemetery, Philip.
Arrangements are with the Rush Funeral Home in Philip.
Tessa Mary-Lee Brenner was born February 15, 2000 in Rapid City, the daughter of Michelle Brenner and Cody Bendigo.
Tessa enjoyed playing with her older sister and brother. She loved to play with her dolls and have her mommy read to her. She enjoyed spending time on the Bendigo ranch with her father. Tessa loved going to the barn with Cody and had no fear of animals.
She also loved being rocked and read to by Papa Larry and Grandpa Arnold.
She will always be remembered for her happy personality and smiling face.
Survivors include her mother Michelle Brenner of Midland; her father Cody Bendigo of Howes, South Dakota; one "sissy" Terri Craven of Midland; one "brudder" Travis Brenner of Midland; a half-brother Karch Foley of Philip; maternal grandfather Bill Craven of Mission; paternal grandparents Larry and Ursula Bendigo of Howes; maternal great-grandparents Arnold and Virginia Wolden of Philip, a maternal great-grandfather M.C. Johnson of Philip, and maternal great-grandmother Mary Jane Green of Rapid; Michelle’s siblings, Patrick Craven of Quinn, Nina Moore of Rapid City, and Ray Craven of Rapid City; Cody’s siblings, Holly Wolforth and her husband Ken of Java, South Dakota, Lynnette Kurth and her husband Russ of Rapid City, Mark Bendigo and his wife Jaylene of Rapid City, Terri Nelson and her husband Mark of Mobridge, Kim Bendigo of Mt. Vernon, Washington, and Beau Bendigo and his wife Susanne of Rapid City; special friends grandma Donna, auntie Nikki and auntie Tammy; and a host of other special aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Tessa was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother Janet Craven, paternal great-grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Isaiah Bendigo, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Garreau, and her paternal aunt Patty Bendigo.

Zane Hoffman
age 22 of Creighton, South Dakota, died October 20, 2008, as a result of a car accident near Creighton.
Zane Lee Hoffman was born March 11, 1986, in Rapid City, South Dakota, the son of Wallace and Carol (Voyles) Hoffman. Zane grew up hunting, fishing, riding horses, and 4-wheelers on the Hoffman Ranch at Pedro, South Dakota. He attended Deep Creek School until the eighth grade, when he attended Wall High School, graduating in 2004.
Zane loved sports and was very active in AAU Wrestling, earning several trips to the State AAU and winning state his final year. In the summer he played baseball in Philip. While in Wall, he played football and wrestled, qualifying for the State B’s in 2003. Also in that year he traveled to Australia with the People to People organization.
After graduation from high school, Zane attended Mitchell Vo-Tech graduating in 2006 with an Electrical Degree. In June 2006, he moved to Colorado working as an electrician. After a few months in Colorado, he decided it wasn’t for him, and moved back to the ranch and helped until taking a job in Rapid City as an electrician. He remained in Rapid City until June 2007, when he got a job in the oil fields. In April 2008, Zane left the oil fields to come home and run the ranch, due to family illness.
Zane was a fun loving person who always had a smile and time to visit. He loved to trail cattle and ride through the Cheyenne River breaks. Zane was much in demand at branding time. Zane was also very good with kids. It was not unusual to see Zane holding down a calf with a little kid on his lap and having the kid believe he was holding down the calf. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his parents Wallace “Wally” and Carol (Voyles) Hoffman of Creighton; two brothers Zeb Hoffman and his wife Megan of Creighton; and Zack Hoffman of Wall; his paternal grandmother Audrey Hoffman of Wall; his maternal grandmother Mary Parsons and her husband Dean of Philip; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Zane was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Maurice Hoffman; his maternal grandfather Forrest Voyles; and three uncles George Hoffman, Chuck Salmon, and John Salmon.
Closed-casket visitation was held 3-7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22, at the Wall Community Center.
Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 23, at the Wall Community Center, with Pastor Sheri Fadley officiating.
Interment will be in the Rose cemetery near Creighton.
A memorial is established.

Karen A. Rhoades, age 56, of Wonder Lake, Illinois, died Saturday, September 8, 2007, at her home in Wonder Lake.
Karen O'Donnell was born March 21, 1951 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of Raymond and Kathleen (Kelly) O'Donnell.
Formerly of Milwaukee, she worked in the linen department at Aurora Healthcare for more than 20 years. In 2000, she lived in Philip, South Dakota, where she worked at Boomer's. She moved to Woodstock, where she lived for six years and worked as a manager of the Shop 'N' Save in Woodstock. She moved to Wonder Lake to live with her daughter five months ago.
Karen loved spending time with her grandchildren and will be remembered as a strong and independent woman.
She is survived by a daughter Christina (Michael) Aberle of Wonder Lake; a son Victor (Jill Rader) O'Donnell of Algoma, Wisconsin; two grandchildren Kayla and John; a sister Susan (Rudy) Roth of Philip; two brothers Patrick (Bettie" O'Donnell of Tucson, Arizona, and Robert O'Donnell of Bellflower, California; and her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers Jerry and Dennis O'Donnell, and Daniel O'Donnell in infancy; a brother-in-law Rudy Lamm in 1986; and her nephew Robert Lamm in 1982.
The visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 11, at Justen's Wonder Lake Funeral Home, 7611 W. Hancock Dr. Wonder Lake, IL 60097. The visitation will continue from 9:00 a.m. until the 10:00 a.m. funeral service Wednesday, September 12, at Nativity Lutheran Church, 3506 E. Wonder Lake Road, Wonder Lake. The Rev. Rebecca Gordon will officiate.
Interment will be private.
Memorials would be appreciated by the family to Monarch Hospice.

Marguerite J. O’Reilly was born February 23, 1920 in Pierre, South Dakota, the daughter of John and Edna (Herrman) O’Reilly.
She grew up on her parents’ ranch in the Elbon community north of Philip. She received her education in that area prior to graduating from Philip High School in 1940.
As a young lady she worked for various people in Philip as well as several cafes.
In 1943, during WWII, she moved to Los Angeles, California where she worked at the North American Aviation Defense Plant in Inglewood, California. In 1944 she returned to Philip where she managed a café until 1949 when she became Deputy Register of Deeds for Haakon County.
Marguerite was united in marriage to Wayne C. Marshall on March 26, 1951 in Murdo, South Dakota. They made their home on a ranch in the Hilland area north of Philip until the fall of 1952 when they moved into Philip.
She resumed her position as Deputy Register of Deeds serving until 1954 when she was elected Register of Deeds and served two terms.
In 1959 Marguerite became employed at the First National Bank in Philip where she worked until retiring as assistant cashier in 1982.
After her husband’s death on September 15, 1973, Marguerite continued to make her home in Philip.
Marguerite was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Evening Guild Tribe II. She was a member of the Wheeler-Brooks American Legion Auxiliary Post #73, the Bad River Senior Citizens Center, and was active with the American Cancer Society.
Grateful for having shared her life include one brother John Norbert "Jack" O’Reilly of Miles City, Montana; two sisters Dolores Hansen of Los Angeles, California, and Mary June Penticoff of Murdo; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers Francis and Loren O’Reilly.
Marguerite died Saturday February 8, at her home in Philip.
Visitation was held 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 11, with a rosary service at 7:00 p.m. all at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Philip.
Mass of Christian Burial was held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2003 at the church, with Father Tony Grossenburg officiating.
Interment was at the Masonic cemetery in Philip.
