Walter George Huether, age 79, of Wall, died Wednesday, February 09, 2005, at the Ft. Meade VA Medical Center.
Walter G. Huether was born January 20, 1926 in Rapid City, South Dakota, the son of Christian Huether, Sr. and Katherina (Fetzer) Huether.
He grew up and went to school on horseback to North Conata and Conata Schools.
Walter entered the United States Navy on June 30, 1944. He served on the USS Goshen during World War II. Walter was united in marriage to Lucille Doughty on April 20, 1946 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Shortly after their marriage, his ship was decommissioned, and Walter received an honorable discharge on June 9, 1946. Walter and Lucille returned to the Huether homestead where they operated the family ranch until moving into Wall in 1997. Walter loved ranching and farming, especially haying, raising horses, and feeding his cows.
He was a member of the South Dakota Stockgrowers Association, the F.J. Willuweit VFW Post #9120 of Quinn, the Carroll-McDonald American Legion Post #246 of Wall, and also served on the Imlay Township Board for thirty years.
Grateful for having shared his life include his wife of fifty-eight years, Lucille Huether of Wall; one son Wayne Huether and his wife Marcia of Interior; one daughter Sheryl Sether and her special friend Rob McIlravy of Hot Springs; four grandchildren Jackie Sawvell and her husband Dale of Quinn, Stacey Fielder and her husband Bart of Rapid City, Scott Huether and his wife Tammy of Interior, and Shawn Sether of Belle Fourche; five great-grandchildren, Jesse and Kyla Sawvell, J.C. Fielder, and Cody and Dylan Huether; one sister Erna Schmidt of Rapid City; a sister in-law Dorothea Huether of Yankton; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers Jacob, Christ Jr., Ted, Otto, and Edward; four sisters, Louisa, Emma, Esther, and an infant sister Katherine.
Visitation was held 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 13, at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Wall, and one hour preceding the services at the Community Center on Monday.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 14, at the Wall Community Center, with Pastor Monty Dell officiating.
Interment with military honors by the Sturgis Honor Guard will be held 2:30 p.m. on Monday, at the Black Hills National cemetery.
A memorial is established to the Wall Ambulance Service and the American Lung Association.

Warren Sinkler
After a three year courageous battle with cancer, Warren Sinkler, age 72, died Monday morning at his home in Rapid City, South Dakota, surrounded by his wife and children.
Warren Wray Sinkler was born on July 19, 1933, in Rapid City to Wray and Lois (Woods) Lobdell. At the age of four, Warren moved to Wood with his mother and stepfather, Ed Sinkler. Warren spent his childhood years in Wood where he attended grade school and graduated from high school in 1951.
During that time he met Betty Moore, the love of his life, who he married on June 11, 1952. Warren joined the Navy in 1952 and was stationed in Rhode Island, where Clifford, the first of five children was born. Warren served on the Naval Destroyer, USS Remey 688 and after receiving an Honorable Discharge in April 1954, they returned to Wood, where they purchased Sinkler's Market and added to their growing family, Vickie, Cameron, Vanessa and Cory. During the years of running the grocery store Warren cut all the fresh meat to ground beef in his own special way, all the while he was whistling. His whistle was his own tune and personal trademark. In 1957, Warren and Betty purchased and ran a cafe. In 1968 he was appointed Postmaster of the Wood Post Office, until his retirement in October of 1997.
He was very special to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed traveling with Betty and son Cam in their fifth wheel camper, staying at many campgrounds and visiting friends and relatives.
Warren was a fifty-one year member of the McBride American Legion Post #19 in Wood and was also a member of the VFW & Elks of Winner. His life long ambition was to pan for gold, but was unable to accomplish this, due to his cancer.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Betty of Rapid City; son Clifford (Wanda) of Winner; daughter Vickie (Doug) Kerner; son Cameron of Rapid City, daughter Vanessa (Bob) Gardner of Pierre, and son Cory (Landi) of Winner; eleven grandchildren Jennifer (Sinkler) and husband Nathan Thomas of Madison, MI, Steve Gardner and wife Tanna of Pierre, Jason Kerner and wife Megan of Winner, Crystal Sinkler of Winner, Austin Sinkler and fiance Laura of Lawrence,KS, Carey Gardner and wife Amber of Rapid City, Jessica (Kerner) and husband Dustin Klein of Winner, Jenna Kerner of Winner, Jordan Sinkler of Winner, Michael Gardner of Pierre, and Danica Sinkler of Winner; five great-grandchildren, Daesha & Ashton Klein and Madison, Ethan and Taylor Kerner, all of Winner; and many close relatives and friends.
Warren was preceded in death by his father Wray Lobdell, step-father Ed Sinkler and mother Lois Sinkler.
A memorial service was held 2:00 p.m. CST Monday, December 19 at the Wood Community Hall, South Dakota, with Pastor Fritz Zimbelman officiating.
Military honors were provided by the McBride American Legion Post #19 of Wood.
Arrangements are with the Rush Funeral Home of Philip.

Ernest H. Hulett
age 70 of of Faulkton, South Dakota, formerly of Philip, died June 12, 2008, at the Faulkton Area Medical Center.
Ernest H. Hulett was born September 17, 1937, at Grindstone, South Dakota, the son of Harry Judge and Evalynn Ivy (Palmer) Hulett. He lived on the farm in the Grindstone area, before moving to the Developmental Center in Redfield, and a good number of years at the Adjustment Training Center in Pierre. In March of 2007, he moved into the Faulkton Healthcare Center.
Ernie loved animals, car rides, and motorcycle rides.
His friends and tender loving caretakers were much appreciated by him and his family.
In God’s eyes we were all brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his sister Alma Schilling and her husband Harry of Redfield; two aunts Vivian Hansen of Philip, and Gertrude Woodden of Rapid City; seventeen nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Ernest was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Effie May Johnson; eight aunts and uncles; and one niece Corrine Johnson.
Visitation was held one hour preceding the services at the church.
Funeral services were held 1:00 p.m. CDT on Saturday, June 14, at the First Baptist Church in Pierre, with Pastor John Rhoad officiating.
Interment was 3:30 p.m. MDT, Saturday, at the Masonic cemetery in Philip.
A memorial is established.

Frances Esther Kotz was born March 14, 1918, in Presho, South Dakota, the youngest of nine children of Henry and Katharine (Kappenman) Kotz.
Frances attended school in Lyman County and graduated from Presho High School in 1936. She then attended Notre Dame junior College in Mitchell and received a teaching certificate.
On December 26, 1944, she married Ralph Regennitter. They farmed south of Vivian all of their married life. After Ralph’s death on June 26, 1975, Frances and her son Richard continued the farming operation.
In 1984 Frances moved to Presho and lived there until November 1997 when she moved to the Kadoka Care Center.
During her life Frances was active in community activities including Christ the King Catholic Church, American Cancer Society, American Legion Auxiliary and was a 4-H leader. She enjoyed playing bridge and took great pride in her grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared her life are two sons, Lyle Regennitter and his wife Bonita of North Platte, Nebraska and Richard Regennitter and his wife Deb of Farmington, Minnesota; one daughter Eileen Stolley and her husband Dick of Kadoka, South Dakota; fourteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Frances was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and three sisters.
Frances E. Regennitter, age 85, of Vivian, died Monday, August 04, 2003 at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.
Visitation was held 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 7, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Presho, with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. all at the church.
Mass of Christian Burial was held 10:00 a.m. Friday, at Christ the King in Presho.
Interment was in the Vivian cemetery, Vivian, South Dakota.

Charles H. Rowcliffe, age 85, of Philip, died Saturday, September 29, 2007, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.
Charles Rowcliffe was born May 28, 1922, on his parents' ranch one and a half miles southwest of Philip, the son of Raymond G. and Florence Rose (Chambers) Rowcliffe. He grew up on the ranch and graduated from Philip High School in 1940. As a young man he worked with his parents on the ranch until his father's death in 1945, at which time he took over the operation of the ranch.
Charles was united in marriage to Louise Faye Millar on February 5, 1948, in Philip. They made their home on the ranch southwest of Philip. In the fall of 1948, Charles began his career in the grocery stores in Philip. First he worked at the Red Owl, Sooper Dooper, Deis' Food Center, and later Carley's Food Center, before retiring in 1986 after 37 years.
They continued to reside on the ranch which they continued to operate until retiring in 1992, and moving into town at 400 West Oak Street.
Charles was a member of the United Church in Philip.
Grateful for having shared his life with, include his wife of 59 years, Louise; two sons Harold Rowcliffe and his wife Betty of Ritzville, Washington, and Roger Rowcliffe and his wife Charlotte of Manhattan, Kansas; three daughters Evelyn Heide and her special friend Gene Sticha of Faribault, Minnesota, Hazel Rowcliffe of Philip, and Ann Roberts and her husband Richard of Ft. Collins, Colorado; two grandsons J.D. and A.J. Roberts of Ft. Collins; one brother Rev. Mylo Rowcliffe of Lake Preston, Minnesota; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters Elaine Whisler and one sister in infancy; one brother Robert Rowcliffe; and two granddaughters in infancy Judi Lynn Heide and Beth Roberts.
Visitation was held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2, at the Rush Funeral Home in Philip, and one hour preceding the services at the church on Wednesday.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 3, at the United Church in Philip, with Pastor Mark Ford officiating.
Interment will be in the Masonic cemetery, Philip.
A memorial is established.

LaVonne "Vonnie" Foreman
age 75 of Kadoka, South Dakota, died December 15, 2007, at the Kadoka Nursing Home.
LaVonne Delores Gerdon, the second of five children, was born to Robert and Pearl (Voss) Gerdon on March 9, 1932 on a farm known as the Cottonwood Creek area northwest of White River in Mellette County.
Vonnie attended grade school at Cottonwood Creek Country School, White River Public School and Prospect Valley Country School in Mellette County. She graduated from Belvidere High School in 1951.
On April 15, 1952, she was united in marriage to Milton Foreman while he was home on furlough from the Army. While her husband was serving in Germany, Vonnie attended Black Hills Teacher’s College in Spearfish the summer of 1952 where she received her teaching certificate. She taught at the Buffalo School south of Belvidere for two years. In 1954, when they lived at the Thode place, she taught at the Prospect Valley School south of Horseshoe Butte.
For many years Vonnie stayed home raising her two children and helping her husband on the ranch. In 1962 they purchased Milton’s parents’ place and moved north of Belvidere to the Foreman farm-ranch.
Vonnie always raised a beautiful garden and enjoyed canning and sharing her produce with family and friends. She took pride in her yard. Vonnie was known for her love for art, which included watercolor and oil paintings. She showed her paintings at various art shows. Vonnie painted pictures for relatives and friends throughout the years. She also enjoyed sewing, attending craft club and bowling.
Vonnie held summer jobs outside the home. She was employed at the Double H Cafe in Belvidere for ten years and for thirteen summers she worked at the 1880 Town.
Vonnie was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Belvidere and the Belvidere American Legion Auxiliary Post 144 where she served several terms as secretary or president. She was also a member of the Belvidere Art Club and Kadoka Craft Club.
Grateful for having shared her life are her two children, Ronda Dennis and her husband, Rick, of Kadoka; Rod Foreman and his wife, Kim, of Hyannis, Nebraska; four grandchildren; Lori Iversen and her husband Aaron of Murdo; Bobbi Jo Davis and her husband Chris of Rapid City; two grandsons Ryan Foreman of Jamaica, Brent Foreman and his wife Jessica of Lincoln, Nebraska; one great-grandson Carter Iversen; one great-granddaughter Taya Iversen; one sister, Charlotte Blom and her husband Willis of Philip; a brother Roscoe Gerdon of Tucson, Arizona and a host of other relatives and friends.
Vonnie was preceded in death by her husband Milton on April 3, 2005; one infant son Neil; a grandson Mitchell Foreman; her parents; and two sisters, Myrna Gerdon and Mardell Ufen.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 20, at the Belvidere Presbyterian Church in Belvidere, with Pastor Gary McCubbin officiating.
Interment will be in the Belvidere cemetery.

Retta was born the oldest of identical twins to Ora & Mary Lancaster in East Lynne, Missouri, on February 22, 1922. She later moved to Pleasant Hill where she graduated from high school in 1940. In 1939 she traveled to South Dakota to visit her Uncle, "Shorty" Smith, where she first met "Duke" Ferguson. She returned to Missouri to finish high school after which she enrolled in Kansas City Business College. Retta then worked as a secretary in Kansas City for 2 years. After a number of visits from "Duke", they were married in Pleasant Hill, Mo. on September 5, 1943.
Retta and "Duke" lived and worked on the Rafter Cross Ranch, 35 miles northeast of Philip, for over 40 years. Many of those years they partnered with Ethel and Tom Ferguson, and Tom’s mother, Francis Ferguson. Linda and Larry Smith now run the Rafter Cross along with their daughters, Lindsey (Matt), Larissa and Lariann.
Very active in the community, Retta served for 19 years as Secretary for the Hans P. Petersen Memorial Hospital. She was also on the Haakon County Republican Election Board; the auxiliary board of trustees for the South Dakota State University Memorial Arts Center; Worthy Matron officer in the Eastern Star; active member of PEO and the Congregational Church of Rapid City.
In 1984, Retta and "Duke" retired from the ranch and moved to Rapid City where they lived until March of 2002 when they moved to the Chicago area to be near their daughters, Joan and Linda.
Retta was preceded in death by her parents and twin sister, Emma Fae Laws.
Retta is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Clifford L. "Duke" Ferguson, her brother, Bob Cassidy, two daughters Joan Blake (Larry) and Linda Boerwinkle (Tom), as well as grandchildren, Christopher (Jolene), Carmel, Gretchen and Jeffrey. Retta also had two great-grandsons, Dalten and Tristen Blake, a niece, Cathy Laws Waddell, a great nephew, Matthew Littler (Claudia), a great niece, Jaclyn Littler and many friends.
Retta Mae Ferguson, 81, passed away on August 1, 2003 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. At the time of her passing, Retta was a resident at the Sunrise Assisted Living Community in Willowbrook, Illinois.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at the American Legion Hall in Philip, with Larry Blake officiating.
A second memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 24, at the First Congregational Church in Rapid City, with Larry Blake officiating.
Private Family Interment will be in the Masonic cemetery, Philip.
A memorial is established to the Alzheimer's Foundation.

Ralph Kroetch was born July 28, 1930 on his parent’s homestead near Hilland, South Dakota, the son of Frederick and Pearl (Boyce) Kroetch.
He grew up on the homestead and received his education in the Hilland community. As a young man he worked at various jobs in the Philip area. He proudly served as a medic in the US Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in a medical hospital in Germany most of his tour. After his discharge in 1954 he returned to the Philip area.
Ralph was united in marriage to Betty Thomas on March 26, 1955 in Philip, South Dakota. To this union were born four children, Ralph Jr., Karen, Neal and Valerie.
They made their home in Avon, SD for three years where they owned and operated a business. Later they moved to Wall, South Dakota where he was a foreman over seeing the installation of missile silos in western South Dakota.
They later moved to their home near Philip where he worked for Little Scotchman. He retired after thirty years of employment at Scotchman Industries.
After his wife Betty died on August 8, 1984, he continued to reside near Philip.
Ralph was united in marriage to Emily Purington on October 8, 1988 in Watertown, South Dakota.
They made their home outside of Philip.
After his retirement he enjoyed working for various farmers and ranchers. They owned and operated the R and E Salvage Business until the time of his death.
Ralph was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a member of the Wheeler-Brooks American Legion Post # 173 both of Philip. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great granddaughter.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Emily Kroetch of Philip; two sons, Ralph Kroetch Jr. and his wife, Carol of Philip; Neal Kroetch and his wife, Rhonda of Tucson, Arizona; two daughters, Karen Hart and her husband, Roger of Missoula, Montana, and Valerie Rose El’Ghaouti and her husband, Abdelkrim of Roswell, Georgia.; five grandchildren, Travis, Chad and Kristine Kroetch; Samantha Hart and Jeremy Kroetch; a great granddaughter, Trinity Kroetch; three brothers, Art Kroetch and his wife, Eleanor, Charles Kroetch and his wife, Kay and Frederick "Fritz" Kroetch and his wife, Barbara all of Philip; a sister, Lottie Walker of Renton Washington, several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to his first wife, Betty, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister in infancy.
Ralph died Friday morning at his residence in Philip surrounded by his wife, Emily and his children.
Visitation was held on Monday Aug. 4, 2003 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a vigil service scheduled for 7:00 p.m. all at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Philip.
Mass of Christian Burial for Ralph Boyce Kroetch Sr. age 73 was celebrated 10:00 a. m. Tuesday Aug. 5, 2003 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Philip with Father Ron Garry as the celebrant.
Interment with military honors by the Wheeler-Brooks American Legion Post # 173 of Philip was in Masonic cemetery of Philip.

Harry Eric Merchen Sr. better known as "Skinny" to his family and friends was born July 10, 1906 near Crofton, Nebraska the son of Louis and Anna (McKee) Merchen.
He grew up in the Winner, White River and Norris areas. Skinny received his education in White River.
As a young man he worked for various ranchers in the Norris community.
Harry E. Merchen Sr. was united in marriage toMildred Lillian Beard on March 10, 1929 at White River, South Dakota. They celebrated their seventy - third wedding anniversary on March 10, 2002.
After their marriage they lived and ranched near Norris, South Dakota. Later they moved into Kadoka but continued to own and operate the ranch. In the early 1990’s they sold the ranch to their sons, Harry Merchen, Jr. and Widd Merchen.
The last few years Skinny and his wife, Mildred, lived in the Philip Nursing Home. She preceded him in death on March 18, 2002.
Harry enjoyed his farm and ranch life very much. He loved visiting his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandson and his many friends.
Grateful for having shared his life are his six children, Harry Merchen Jr. and his wife Jeanne of Norris, Melvin Merchen and his wife Carol of Rapid City, Jeanine Gage and her husband Dean of Sioux Falls, S.D., Mark Merchen and his wife Monica of Kadoka, Widd Merchen and his wife Lana of Gordon, Nebraska, and Ronnell Grotzke and her husband Vern of Ennis, Montana; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; a sister Esther Matz of New Underwood; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife, Mildred Merchen, he was preceded in death by a an infant daughter, his parents, seven brothers, and five sisters.
Harry "Skinny" Merchen, age 97, of Philip, died Monday, July 28, 2003 at the Philip Nursing Home.
Visitation was held 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Kadoka, and one hour preceding the services at the church on Friday.
Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 1, at the Kadoka Presbyterian Church with Pastor Gary McCubbin officiating.
Interment was be 1:30 p.m. on Friday, at the Norris cemetery in Norris, South Dakota.
A memorial has been established.
