Esther L. Letellier, age 92, of Norris, died Friday morning, February 2, 2007, at the Bennett County Nursing Home in Martin.
Esther Marousek was born December 7, 1914 on the Marousek Homestead in Meade County near Boneita Springs, South Dakota the daughter of Frank and Helen (Maresh) Marousek. She grew up in that area and graduated from Rapid City High School. She then attended Spearfish Normal and taught rural school for two years. Later she completed her degree at Sioux Falls College and then attended Baptist Missionary Training School in Chicago, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Religious Education. She taught one year at Kaufman School.
Esther was united in marriage to Loyd Letellier on August 24, 1940 in Rapid City. They owned and operated the LEL Hereford Ranch near Norris. After their six children were raised she returned to teaching in the Norris school in 1965 to 1974.
Esther was a member of the Norris Bible Church. She was honored for her 60 years in Extension Club and also was the Norris News correspondent for 38 years. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, writing, traveling and playing Scrabble.
She was a member of Women's Christian Temperance Union since 1951 and served as a State officer including President for many years.
Her husband preceded her in death on September 17, 1988. She continued to make her home in Norris until June of 2004 when she moved into the Bennett County Health Care Center.
Grateful for having shared her life include four sons James Letellier and his wife Marjorie of Norris, Don Letellier and his wife Anna May of Wood Lake, Nebraska, Glen Letellier and his wife Linda of Mt. Lake, Minnesota and Roy Letellier and his wife Kathie of Mesa, Arizona. Two daughters Dorothy Peterson and her husband Fred of Minnetonka, Minnesota and Alice White and her husband Gary of Evart, Michigan; 17 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren; two brothers Dr. Melvin Marousek of Belle Fourche, and Dr. Gerald Marousek of Moscow, Idaho; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband Loyd, Esther was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Alan and two sisters Ruth Fisher and Gladys Couture, and an infant granddaughter.
Visitation was held 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 7, at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Kadoka, and one hour preceding the services at the church on Thursday.
Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. CST, Thursday, February 8, at the Norris Bible Church in Norris, with Rev. Don Letellier officiating.
Interment was in the Norris cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial is established.

Joseph H. Bielmaier better known as "Joe" to his family and friends was born July 25, 1916, on his father’s homestead seven and a half miles northeast of Wall, the son of Michael and Rosa (Kurtzhals) Bielmaier.
Joe attended grade school in Lake Hill Township and high school in Wall.
As a young man he operated the family farm until he was drafted into the Army on August 27, 1942. While in the Army he served in the European Theatre of Operation taking part in the Battles of Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He received the American Theatre Service Medal with three battle stars attached, a Distinguished Unit Badge, and a Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged from the Army on January 11, 1946.
Joe returned to the family homestead where he continued to farm and ranch northeast of Wall.
Joe was united in marriage to Zetta F. Burley Gleason on June 3, 1962 at New Underwood, South Dakota.
They made their home in Wall all their married life. They continued to operate the farm – ranch until the present time.
Joe was a charter member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Wall where he continued as a member. He was a life long member of the V.F. W. Post #1273 of Rapid City, and a life member and past commander of the Carroll McDonald American Legion Post #246 of Wall.
Grateful for having shared his life is a sister Agnes K. Pivny of Rapid City; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife Zetta on October 13, 2001; three brothers William, Frank, and John Bielmaier; and two sisters Lucy C. Rinehart and Sister Romaine (Anna Bielmaier).
Joe died Sunday morning, June 15, 2003 at the Black Hills Rehabilitation Hospital in Rapid City.
Visitation was held 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17 with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. all at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Wall.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Bob Baden as celebrant.
Interment with military honors will be 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis.
A memorial is established.

Anna Oudekerk was born October 17, 1920 on a farm near Rosecreek, Minnesota the daughter of Henry and Anna (Boelman) Oudekerk.
She grew up on the farm and received her education in rural schools in that community. As a young lady she worked with her parents on the family farm.
Anna was united in marriage to Richard Brown in 1940 and to this union was born two children, Peggy and Harry.
On October 17, 1956 she was united in marriage to Clifford L. Brown in Philip, SD and to this union was born a daughter, Zella.
They made their home on Clifford’s farm – ranch until 1999 when they retired and moved into the Senechal Apartments in Philip.
After her husband’s death on April 6, 2002, Anna continued to live in the Senechal until her death.
Grateful for having shared her life are her two daughters, Peggy Jezwinski of Wasilla, Alaska and Zella Sundquist and her husband, Orrin of Wasta, SD; four grandchildren, Shara Dart and her husband, Jeffery of Rapid City and Phane Sundquist of Wasta; Harlan Sieler of Reva, SD and Kim Sieler of Rapid City, SD; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Wallace Oudekerk of Old Home, Arkansas amd a sister, Elizabeth Larson of Tacoma, Washington; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Clifford, Anna was preceded in death by a son, Harry Brown, her parents, and four brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services for Anna Brown, age 82, of Philip were held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday June 4, 2003 at the United Church in Philip with Pastor Jeff Tippner officiating.
Anna died Saturday night, May 31, 2003 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Visitation was held from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Philip and one hour before the services at the church on Wednesday.
Interment was in the Masonic cemetery of Philip.

Jerald Elnoris "Jerry" Kjerstad, age 64, of Piedmont, died Sunday, October 15, 2006, at the University of Colorado Hospital in Denver, Colorado.
Jerald Elnoris Kjerstad was born March 28th, 1942 in Quinn, South Dakota, the son of Elnoris and Ila (Bean) Kjerstad. Jerry grew up on the ranch by Quinn. He graduated from Wall High School in 1960 and he received his BS in Agriculture Economics with a Business Option Degree from South Dakota State University in June of 1964. Jerry became a loan officer and appraiser with the Federal Land Bank Association of Chadron, Nebraska. He was with the Farm Credit Service System until December 31st, 1984. During his 20 years of appraisal and appraisal review career with the Farm Credit System, he was located in Spokane, Washington, Washington D.C., and Omaha, Nebraska. Jerry returned to the Quinn area to manage his ranching interest and establish a real estate business in 1985. The appraisal real estate business was moved to Piedmont in 1993. Jerry is the president of Kjerstad Realty, Inc., which provides a full range of real estate appraisal, brokerage, and consulting services. Jerry approached his business like he did all aspects of his life with leadership, dignity, and respect.
Jerry was united in marriage to Margy White on January 12th 1963, in Wall, South Dakota, and to this union were born three children Rick, Tina, and Lisa. Jerry was a lover of life and adventure. He was always there for his children as a Boy Scout Leader, baseball and softball coach, driving instructor, riding coach, and whatever else was needed. Jerry shared his love of life with his children and his grandchildren every day. He also loved his horses, hunting, fishing, and wine. Jerry’s heart reached out to so many people and he gave every person he met a true gift of genuine friendship.
He was a member of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers, South Dakota Alumni Council, South Dakota Buckaroos, Custer Trail Riders, and the US Marshal Posse.
Grateful for having shared his life include his wife Margy of Piedmont, a son Rick Kjerstad and his wife Gianna of Parker, Colorado, a daughter Tina Hood and her husband Derek of Boise, Idaho, a daughter Lisa Evans and her husband Jason of Parker, Colorado, five grandchildren: Sydney, Jenni, and Jakob Kjerstad and Katie and Sean Evans, his father Elnoris Kjerstad of Quinn, South Dakota, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his mother Ila (Bean) Kjerstad on January 29, 2006, brother Richard "Dick" Kjerstad on June 15, 2004 and mother-in-law Margaret Williams on January 5, 2006.
Visitation was held 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thurday, October 19, at the Wall Community Center, and one hour preceding the services at the Center on Friday.
Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 20, at the Wall Community Center, with Pastor Brad Kattelmann officiating.
Interment was in the Wall cemetery.
The family requests memorials be directed to the Jerry Kjerstad Memorial Fund. c/o First Western Bank, PO Box 3133, Rapid City, SD 57709.

David Ulmen
age 67 of Kadoka, South Dakota, died October 31, 2008, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.
David Paul Ulmen was born August 9, 1941, in Bismarck, North Dakota, the son of Conrad and Frieda (Rausch) Ulmen. They lived in Bismarck until 1952, when the family moved to Pierre. After graduating from Pierre High School in 1959, Dave attended Northern State College, graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration in 1965.
Dave entered the United States Army on October 1, 1965, serving in Vietnam. After receiving his honorable discharge on October 4, 1967, Dave moved to Pierre where he worked for the South Dakota State Highway Department until 1971. He then worked for the Department of Legislative Audit.
Dave married Susan Brothanek in 1971, and to this union a daughter Tami Sue was born on November 7, 1972. Dave worked for the Belle Fourche School System as the business manager from 1973 until 1991.
Dave married Patty Fugate on January 2, 1987 in Rapid City, and to this union a daughter Kimberly Dawn was born on February 21, 1988. Dave, Patty, and Kim moved to Kadoka in 1992, where Dave was the business manager for the Crazy Horse School System from 1992 until 1996, when health reasons forced him to retire.
Dave is survived by his wife Patty of Kadoka; two daughters Kimberly Ulmen who attends Black Hills State University, and Tami, who lives in Broomfield, Colorado; a brother Jim Ulmen and his wife Judy of Pierre; three brothers-in-law Bob Fugate and his wife Kathy, Bill Fugate and his wife Lauri, all of Kadoka, and Andrew Rej of Denver, Colorado; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Patricia Reidy Rej; his mother and father-in-law Edgar and Floy Fugate; and his first wife Susan (Brothanek) Wright.
Visitation was held 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 4, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Kadoka, and one hour preceding the services at the church on Wednesday.
Mass of Christian Burial was held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 5, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Kadoka, with Father Bryan Sorensen as celebrant, and Father Ron Garry as con-celebrant.
Interment with military honors by the Sturgis Honor Guard was held 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 5, at the Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis.
A memorial is established.

Daniel Benjamin Stout, better known as Dan to his family and friends, was born January 15, 1938 at Kadoka, South Dakota the son of Roy and Mary (Humphreys) Stout.
Dan grew up on a farm- ranch eleven miles west of Kadoka, graduated from Kadoka High School in 1956.
Dan was united in marriage to Janet R. Pike on May 6, 1957 in Kadoka, SD. To this union was born five children, Janet, Joelle, Jeanie, Thad and Brad.
They made their home on a farm - ranch north of Kadoka until 1966, at which time the family moved to a farm-ranch south of Kadoka. Along with farming and ranching Dan also operated earth-moving equipment. From 1975 until 1986 they owned and operated grocery stores in Kadoka, Rapid City and Rushville, NE. In 1986 the family moved back to their home place south of Kadoka. In 1991 they moved to Onida, SD where he operated Mid-West Feeders.
Wherever Dan lived he was very involved in community activities. His goal was to see everyone achieve the best they could. He took pride in the meat department at the store and offered the best service that retail operations called for. Dan thrived on the day to day challenges in all areas of business, which he operated.
Dan's love of sports showed in coaching basketball and support of the events. Dan received outstanding Young Farmer Award.
Grateful for having shared his life are his companion, Carolyn Fouts of Pierre, his five children, Janet VanderMay and her husband, Chuck of Kadoka and their children, Michelle Butler, Elizabeth, Leo, and Luke Vander May, Joelle Johnson and her husband, Lonnie of Forbes, ND and her children, Lonna Livermont, Laramine and Linay Johnston, Jeanie Leeper and her husband, Martin of Cedar Rapids, Nebraska and their children, Dustin and Deidra Leeper; Thad Stout and his wife, Penny and their children, Ben and Tessa Stout, and Brad Stout and his wife, Jody, and their daughter, Sammi Jo, all of Kadoka; four great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Barbara Herber and her husband, Bernard of Kadoka; Alice Stone and her husband, Rollie of Rapid City, SD; a brother Dr. Robert Stout and his wife Ginny of Alliance, NE. and a host of other relatives and friends.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mary Stout and a grandson, Christopher Vander May.
Memorial services for Daniel B. "Dan" Stout age 66 of Onida and formerly of Kadoka will be held 5:00 p.m. CDT Thursday August 5, 2004 at the Presbyterian Church in Onida, SD
Dan died Saturday night, July 31, 2004 at St. Mary's Healthcare Center in Pierre, SD.
Arrangements are with the Rush Funeral Chapel in Philip.

Richard Poss
age 76 of Philip, South Dakota, died August 22, 2008, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Richard J. Poss was born May 5, 1932, the third of six sons born to Bernard J. and Mildred (O’Connell) Poss, on Hay Draw, north of Cottonwood, South Dakota. At the age of 12, the Poss family moved to his grandparents’ homestead on the North Fork. After working on the farm and ranch he joined the United States Air Force where he was trained to be an Instrument Technician. Flying out of many air bases and countries including Korea, where he spent most of his time. After the service he worked road construction including Summit Construction on the Powder River in Wyoming. Then in substations in Wyoming, Montana, Utah, and last in California. During this time he belonged to the 8th District Electrical Union.
Richard’s first marriage was to Ivy Fellar and they lived in Helena, Montana until their divorce. His next marriage was to Margaret Amos and they lived in California until her death. In July 2004, Richard moved back to Philip from California. He loved living in Philip and especially enjoyed coffee time, playing cards and cribbage, and spending time with his family in Philip which included nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. His niece Lori (Poss) Howard, from California, made several trips out to visit Richard during his time in Philip. Richard was always the one to plan family reunions for the Poss boys and to make sure the boys stayed bonded through their adult lives. He will be greatly missed.
Grateful for having shared his life include three brothers Bill Poss and his wife Paula of Riverside, California, Don Poss and his wife Delores of Philip, and Claude Poss and Betty of Bay Town, Texas; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife Margaret (Amos) Poss on August 16, 2003, his parents Bernard and Mildred (O’Connell) Poss; and two brothers John and Robert.
Memorial services were held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 27, at the American Legion Hall in Philip, with Pastor Kathy Chesney officiating.
Burial with military honors by the Sturgis Honor Guard was 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, at the Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis.
A memorial is established.

Lyle Stevens
age 91 of Kadoka, South Dakota, died October 6, 2008, at the Kadoka Nursing Home.
Lyle Bernard Stevens was born April 8, 1917, on his folks’ homestead near Clearfield, South Dakota, the son of William Arthur and Ruby (Fletcher) Stevens. When he was four years old the family moved to a ranch east of Wanblee. There he attended a one room school and graduated from Wanblee High School in 1935. In 1936 he moved to Idaho where he lived until 1940 when he moved to Rapid City, South Dakota. There he worked as a service manager for the Packard Garage.
Lyle was united in marriage to Ellen G. Hercher on January 11, 1941, in Rapid City, South Dakota, and to this union were born three children. In 1942, Lyle and Ellen moved to Idaho and then on to Portland, Oregon, where Lyle worked in the Navy shipyards during the war. In 1946, they moved back to Rapid City where Lyle again owned and operated a Mobile Service Station for seven years. He worked as a car salesman for Hemmingson Auto Service, and in 1962, went to work at Jeff’s Truck Stop. In 1970, he and Ellen opened a Skelly Service Station and Restaurant north of I-90 and worked there until their retirement in 1984.
Lyle was a member of the Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. He was a charter member of the Lions Club (1984) receiving the Distinguished Service Award in 1988, the Lion of the Year Award in 1989, and 1994, and the Melvin Jones Award in 1992. In 1989 he received a plaque from the Masonic Lodge for Outstanding Citizen. Lyle served on the South Dakota Centennial committee, on the board of directors for the Community Action Program in Rapid City, the library board, and numerous other committees. Lyle claimed that what motivated him to get up and do what he needed to be done was his faith in God.
Lyle is survived by a son Gene Stevens and his wife Andrea of Rapid City; two daughters Barbara Haines and her husband Harold of Kearney, Missouri, and Roxy Richardson and her husband Vernon of Long Valley; grandchildren Paige Auer and her husband Mark, Patty Rubin and her husband Dave, Cory Richardson and his wife Kiya, Todd Stevens and his wife Tricia, Julie Sowden and her husband Jim, Troy Stevens and his wife Stephanie, and Aaron Richardson; nine great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandchild; two brothers Dutch Stevens and his wife Billie of Rapid City, and Swede Stevens and his wife Sandie of San Jose, California; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Lyle was preceded in death by his wife Ellen; two sisters; and two brothers.
Visitation was held 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, October 12, at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Kadoka, and one hour preceding the services at the church on Monday.
Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 13, at the Presbyterian Church in Kadoka, with Pastor Gary McCubbin officiating.
Interment was in the Kadoka cemetery.
A memorial is established.

Richard Lee Allen was born on January 25, 1935, to Orval and Margaret (Dithmer) Allen at his Grandma Lillian Dithmer’s house in Kadoka, South Dakota. Richard grew up on the Allen farm northeast of Long Valley, South Dakota and attended Harding School at Long Valley.
Richard farmed for his Uncle Wayne Allen and Donald Handcock in his early years, both before and after serving in the United States Army, which he joined in January, 1958. He was discharged in January, 1960 but remained in the Reserves and was called back to serve the Army again from January, 1962 until August, 1962.
After he was discharged, Richard worked in Kadoka with Orval, who owned the Mobil Service Station, at the John Deere dealer and at Jeff’s Husky Truck Stop.
Beginning in 1970, Richard delivered mail on several rural mail routes between Kadoka and Martin until 1993, when he was forced to quit because of failing eyesight. Richard was well-known in the rural communities where he delivered mail, especially in Martin where he spent six afternoons a week between mail routes. Richard drove over 1.5 million miles delivering mail. Richard also farmed with his dad until Orval’s death.
Richard was a skilled mechanic and loved tinkering on old vehicles. He also loved fishing and visiting – some people say Richard never met a stranger. Richard was actively involved in the Badlands Lion’s Club and in the district, including two terms as Club President and a South Dakota Lion’s Foundation board member. Richard also received numerous commendations in the Lion’s Club, including the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellow Award and Lion of the Year in 1988. At the time of his death, Richard was zone chairperson and local diabetic chairperson.
Richard is survived by his sister, Betty Lou Stratton and her husband Joe of Kadoka; a nephew Dick Stratton of Tekamah, Nebraska; two nieces Cynde Stoakes and her husband Dennis of Sioux Falls, and Rose Ann Wendell and her husband Greg of Pierre; a great-niece Anna Stoakes of Sioux Falls; a great- nephew Preston Stoakes of Sioux Falls; a special friend Lois Lurz of Hot Springs and her children Bill Patterson, Barb Plooster, Troy Lurz and Joe Lurz.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents.
Richard died Friday, May 16, 2003 at the V.A. Black Hills Health Care System in Ft. Meade.
Visitation was Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Kadoka and 1 hour before the services at the church on Wednesday.
Funeral services for Richard Lee Allen, age 68, of Kadoka were held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at the Presbyterian Church in Kadoka with Elder Ardeth Kocourek officiating.
Interment with military honors by the American Legion Post 27 of Kadoka was at the Kadoka cemetery.
A memorial is established.
