Laura Marie Allen
age 84 of Aurora, Colorado, formerly of Kadoka, South Dakota, died December 9, 2004, at Aurora, Colorado.
Laura Marie Nielsen was born February 11, 1920, at Kadoka, South Dakota, the daughter of Niels P. and Laura R. (Chapman) Nielsen. She grew up in Kadoka, and in 1935 she moved with her parents to Custer, South Dakota, where they lived until 1937 when they moved to Astoria, Oregon. She graduated from Astoria High School. She then graduated from St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in Astoria.
In 1942, she entered the U.S. Army as a registered nurse serving in Missouri, Africa, and Italy.
Laura was united in marriage to Arnold Goulding in Africa, and to this union was born a daughter, Jeanne. After her discharge from the military in 1944, she moved to Kadoka, South Dakota, where her daughter was born. She worked as a nurse in the Kadoka Hospital and Clinic until 1974.
Laura was united in marriage to Wayne C. Allen on August 5, 1952, in Kadoka, and to this union was born a son, Robert Allen. They made their home in Kadoka but farmed near Long Valley, South Dakota. From 1961 to 1968, they managed the Western Lanes Bowling House in Kadoka. They retired from farming in 1979 and continued to make their home in Kadoka.
Her husband, Wayne preceded her in death on June 13, 1985.
She continued to live in Kadoka, where she was active with the Kadoka Ambulance and also did intermittent nursing in the Kadoka area. On June 16, 1988, she retired from the Kadoka Ambulance, after ten years of service. In 1997 she moved to Denver, Colorado, to be near her daughter Jeanne Toro, where she resided until her death.
Laura was a member of the Kadoka Presbyterian Church, the American Legion Post #27, and the Auxiliary Unit #27, and a long time member of the Kadoka Community Betterment Association.
Grateful for having shared her life include her son Robert Allen of Bethel, Alaska; her daughter Jeanne Toro of Centennial, Colorado; two grandsons, Glenn Cochran and Robert Cochran; three great-grandsons, Justin Cochran, Matthew Cochran, and Joshua Cochran, and a great-granddaughter, Alyssa Cochran; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband Wayne, Laura was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Ervin, Niels, and Andrew "Pete" Nielsen, and her sisters Anna Birkholz, Olive Luneberg, and Margaret Hedeen.
Visitation will be held one hour preceding the services at the church on Monday. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 13, at the Kadoka Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Gary McCubbin officiating.
Interment with military honors will be in the Kadoka cemetery.
A memorial is established to the Kadoka Ambulance Service.

Richard Lee Allen
age 68 of Kadoka, South Dakota, died May 16, 2003, at the VA Black Hills Healthcare System in Ft. Meade.
Richard Lee Allen was born on January 25, 1935, to Orval and Margaret (Dithmer) Allen at his Grandma Lillian Dithmer’s house in Kadoka, South Dakota. Richard grew up on the Allen farm northeast of Long Valley, South Dakota and attended Harding School at Long Valley.
Richard farmed for his Uncle Wayne Allen and Donald Handcock in his early years, both before and after serving in the United States Army, which he joined in January, 1958. He was discharged in January, 1960 but remained in the Reserves and was called back to serve the Army again from January, 1962 until August, 1962.
After he was discharged, Richard worked in Kadoka with Orval, who owned the Mobil Service Station, at the John Deere dealer and at Jeff’s Husky Truck Stop.
Beginning in 1970, Richard delivered mail on several rural mail routes between Kadoka and Martin until 1993, when he was forced to quit because of failing eyesight. Richard was well-known in the rural communities where he delivered mail, especially in Martin where he spent six afternoons a week between mail routes. Richard drove over 1.5 million miles delivering mail. Richard also farmed with his dad until Orval’s death.
Richard was a skilled mechanic and loved tinkering on old vehicles. He also loved fishing and visiting – some people say Richard never met a stranger. Richard was actively involved in the Badlands Lion’s Club and in the district, including two terms as Club President and a South Dakota Lion’s Foundation board member. Richard also received numerous commendations in the Lion’s Club, including the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellow Award and Lion of the Year in 1988. At the time of his death, Richard was zone chairperson and local diabetic chairperson.
Richard is survived by his sister, Betty Lou Stratton and her husband Joe of Kadoka; a nephew Dick Stratton of Tekamah, Nebraska; two nieces Cynde Stoakes and her husband Dennis of Sioux Falls, and Rose Ann Wendell and her husband Greg of Pierre; a great-niece Anna Stoakes of Sioux Falls; a great- nephew Preston Stoakes of Sioux Falls; a special friend Lois Lurz of Hot Springs and her children Bill Patterson, Barb Plooster, Troy Lurz and Joe Lurz.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation was Tuesday, May 20, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Kadoka and 1 hour before the services at the church on Wednesday.
Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at the Presbyterian Church in Kadoka with Elder Ardeth Kocourek officiating.
Interment with military honors by the American Legion Post 27 of Kadoka was at the Kadoka cemetery.
A memorial is established.

Alan Lee Amiotte
age 58 of Interior, South Dakota, died July 21, 2002, at his home in Interior.
Alan Lee Amiotte was born December 30, 1943, the son of Albert and Vera (Weaver) Amiotte. He was raised on a ranch south of Interior on Bear Creek. He received his first six years of education at Lone Tree School in former Washabaugh County and finished his education in Interior School, graduating in 1962.
After graduation he remained on the ranch with his parents.
He was united in marriage to Asta Garner on June 27, 1963 at Rapid City. After their marriage they purchased the Alex Amiotte ranch where they have since resided.
Alan’s first love was horses. He was an accomplished horseman. He ranched and rodeoed extensively and passed on his love for both, to his children.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Asta Amiotte of Interior; three sons, Clint Amiotte and his wife Shari of Interior, Tucker Amoitte of Interior, and Kyle Amiotte and his wife Tricia of Black Hawk; a daughter Dondee Krolikowski and her husband Jeff of Interior; five grandchildren, Keely, Kray, and Krockett Krolikowski, Taylor Amiotte, and Bridger Amiotte; one brother, Norman Amiotte and his wife Jean of Interior; a sister Bonnie Renner of Spearfish; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson Kall James Krolikowski.
Funeral services were held 4:00 p.m. Thursday, July 25, at the Interior School Gym with Pastor Dave Morrison officiating.
Interment was 7:30 p.m. at the family cemetery on the ranch.
A memorial is established.

Zola M. Riggins, age 76, of Philip, formerly of Wanblee, died Tuesday, May 09, 2006, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Zola Mae Fite was born February 15, 1930 in Tolesboro, Kentucky, the daughter of Aure M. and Roma V. (Searl) Fite. At the age of three, she moved with her parents to a ranch south of Cottonwood, South Dakota. She grew up on the ranch and attended rural school in the Cottonwood area. She graduated from Kadoka High School in 1947.
Zola was united in marriage to Rex L. Riggins on October 15, 1947 in Pierre, South Dakota. They made their home on a ranch ten miles west of Wanblee all their married life.
In 1948 and 1949, she taught school at the Eagle Nest Rural School south of Wanblee. While she was raising a family, she substitute taught at Garner Rural School near their ranch. In the early 70's she taught at the Wanblee Public School until retiring in 1994.
After her husband's death on June 17, 1992, she continued to reside on the ranch until moving into Philip in October 2002.
Zola enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in the outdoors, especially fishing. She loved to do crafts and write poetry and to this point has had two books of poetry published. Outside of her family, her most joyous times were teaching the children at the Wanblee Public School.
Zola was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Kadoka, and after moving to Philip attended the United Church in Philip.
Grateful for having shared her life are two daughters Zoni Thorson and her husband Corky of Philip, and Jan Schaefer and her husband Walt of Wall; nine grand- children, Jody, Julie, Quentin, Matthew, Cody, Erin, Mallory, Megan, and Michaela; three great-grandchildren Jamie Marie, Taylor Mae, and Cody Joseph, Jr.; one brother Maurice Fite and his wife Vickie of Philip; one sister Barbara Diver of St. Louis, Missouri; a daughter in-law Debbie Prouty and her husband Joe of Philip; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband Rex, Zola was preceded in death by two sons Tim and Guy Riggins; a grandson Jamie "Spud" Gittings; her parents; four brothers Vernley, Aurelius, Glen, and Leslie Fite; and two sisters Marjorie Levy and Darlene Percy.
Visitation was held 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 14, at the Rush Funeral Home in Philip, and one hour preceding the services at the auditorium on Monday.
Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 15, at the Kadoka City Auditorium, with Pastor Gary McCubbin and Pastor Mark Ford officiating.
Interment was in the Kadoka cemetery.
A memorial is established.

Carrie B. Anderson
age 99 of Wall, South Dakota, died December 19, 2006, at the Good Samaritan Center in New Underwood.
Carrie B. Erickson was born August 8, 1907, in Springbrook Township near Halma, Minnesota, the daughter of Gustaf and Anna (Vernes) Erickson.
She grew up and received her education in the Halma area. As a young lady she worked for various farmers in that area.
Carrie was united in marriage to Anton Westberg on June 25, 1925 in Kennedy, Minnesota. They farmed in the Kennedy area until Anton’s death on October 17, 1945.
On February 16, 1948, she was united in marriage to Albin Anderson at Roseau, Minnesota. They made their home in Karlstad, Minnesota for two years prior to moving to Wagner, South Dakota in the early 1950’s. In 1966, they moved to Wall, where they operated the Pioneer Laundry for Lester Baker. In 1968, they retired and moved to Wasta, where they resided until moving into the Prairie Village apartments in 1987.
Carrie was a member of the Wall Methodist Church and a former member of the Wasta Methodist Church where she had served as president of the Ladies Aid. Carrie was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America, the Rebecca Lodge, a member of the Wagner American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary.
Grateful for having shared her life include a nephew Paul Goldhammer of Wall, and his children Jay Goldhammer and his wife Jana of Sheridan, Wyoming, Tim Goldhammer and his wife Beth of Hebron, Nebraska, Lacey Wellens and her husband Mark of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Patrick Goldhammer and his wife Shawna of Sheridan, Wyoming, and Kari Bappe and her husband Scott of Moville, Iowa; one brother Raymond Erickson of Minnesota; and one sister Ruth Tenold of Minnesota.
Carrie was preceded in death by her first husband Anton Westberg, her second husband Albin Anderson, a niece, whom they raised, Mary Goldhammer, her parents; six sisters Jennie Lofberg, Minnie Lysford, Grace Kiesow, Agnes Tuerson, Selma, Ella, and Anna Mae; and five brothers Roy, Lester, Fred, Albert, and Leslie Erickson.
Visitation was held one hour preceding the services at the church.
Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 26, at the United Methodist Church in Wall, with Pastor Mark Ford officiating.
Interment will be 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Black Hills National cemetery, with Chaplain Willard Olsen officiating.
A memorial is established.
Arrangements are with the Rush Funeral Chapel of Wall.

Thilda "Till" Mulcahy
age 95 of Midland, South Dakota, died April 19, 2010, at the Philip Nursing Home.
Thilda Gudrun “Till” Fosheim was born March 2, 1915, at the family homestead near Deep Creek, the seventh of eleven children born to Thor and Gjertina (Gabrieldst) Fosheim. She grew up on the homestead and received her education at Stoney Butte School. After leaving school she worked at many jobs. These included cooking at a Midland motel and also cooking for private families in Deadwood. She was an excellent cook and each member of her family has a ‘favorite’ dish she prepared. She babysat for everyone and throughout the years had many of her nieces and nephews live with her. Till was loved by everyone that knew her. She was a kind, generous and gentle woman who helped anyone who needed it.
Till was united in marriage to Danny Mulcahy on February 15, 1948 at Quinn, South Dakota. After their marriage she worked with Danny at Behl Hardware in Midland. In 1950, they along with Kink Anderson, started the A&M Grocery in Midland. In 1953, they purchased Kink’s share and operated the store until 1960, when they moved to Ft. Pierre. While in Ft. Pierre, Till worked at Ft. Pierre Livestock for four years as a bookkeeper. They then moved back to Midland and bought back the store which they operated until Danny’s death in 1966. Till sold the store one year later to Gust Larson, but managed it for him until 1980, when it was closed. She then worked at the Country Place until retirement in 1987.
Till was a member of the Deep Creek Lutheran Church and the Midland Senior Citizens.
Till enjoyed her hobbies of reading, doing puzzles, and canning. She enjoyed dancing, and loved crocheting and making hand-painted towels which she gave as gifts to members of her family. She loved playing Bingo and riding the bus to Philip and Deadwood. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.
Till started the Fosheim family gathering which always took place on Easter. She continued this until she moved to the Philip Nursing home in 2004. This gathering still continues in the Fosheim family today.
Survivors include her daughter JoAnn Bork and her husband Paul of Midland; five grandchildren Angela (David) Anderson of Loveland, Colorado, Jennifer (Allen) Geuther of Ft. Pierre, Kimberly (Luke) Nelson of Aberdeen, Daniel Bork of Sioux Falls, and Shelby Bork of Midland; six great-grandchildren; one sister Ida Hunt of Midland; a brother-in-law Roy Roseth of Philip; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband Danny, Till was preceded in death by her parents; six sisters Esther Schanzenbach, Anna Walker, Emma Root, Olga Meyers, Minnie Fosheim, and Clara Roseth; one brother Pete Fosheim; and two siblings in infancy, Margit and George.
Visitation was held 4-6 p.m. on Thursday April 22, at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Philip and one hour before the services on Friday.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 23, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Midland with Pastor Frezil Westerlund officiating.
Interment will be in the Midland cemetery.
A memorial is established.

Evelyn Anderson
age 89 of Philip, South Dakota, died December 5, 2002, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital.
Kristina Evelyn (Thiemann) Anderson was born January 2, 1913 to Douglas Otto and June Elizabeth (Louison) Thiemann on her father’s homestead near Hilland, South Dakota.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Missouri Lutheran Faith. Evelyn received her grade school education at Plainview Country School one and one-half miles from their home. Her first two years of High School were at Marrietta Consolidated eight miles from her home. She graduated from Philip High School in 1932.
On March 23, 1935 Evelyn married Otto Bernard Anderson at Martin, South Dakota. To this union was born two children, Bernard Dean "Bernie" and Jeannine June. That fall they moved to Custer, South Dakota where they lived for six years before returning to Hilland in the spring of 1941. In 1953 they moved to Spearfish until 1955 when they moved to Philip. While in Philip, Evelyn worked as a nurse’s aid at Philip Hospital when the new hospital opened January 1956 until retiring in 1970. She also helped at the funeral home for W.E. and Ruth Woodall and later for Jack and Gayle Rush.
Evelyn’s husband, Otto preceded her in death on March 18, 1981. Evelyn wrote the social news for the Pioneer Review from 1982 – 1998. In October 1998 Evelyn sold her home and moved to an apartment in Rapid City to be near her daughter and family where she remained until her death.
Evelyn was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Philip and Zion Lutheran Church of Rapid City, and the Bad River Senior Citizens of Philip.
Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Bernard Dean "Bernie" Anderson and his wife Julie of Aurora, Illinois; her daughter, Jeannine June Poloncic and her husband John of Rapid City, South Dakota; five grandchildren, Lisa Revnew and her husband Fred, Darrin and Eric Anderson, Carmen Thompson and her husband Ed, and Tyson Morgan; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a sister-in-law Joanne Thieman; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Kenneth Thieman and Ira Thieman; three sisters, Eunice Swisher, Elizabeth "Beth" Burns, and Helen Thieman in infancy.
Visitation was held 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Rush Funeral Home in Philip, and one hour preceding the services at the church on Monday.
Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 9, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Philip with Pastor Robert Oettel and Pastor Duane Duley officiating.
Interment was in the Masonic cemetery, Philip.
The family requests memorials directed to Zion School or Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Helen Edith May Peterson was born May 8, 1914 on a farm in the Weta area, the daughter of Jacob and Alma Sophia (Spong) Peterson.
She grew up in the Weta area and graduated from Weta High School. As a young lady she worked for restaurants in the Kadoka and Philip areas.
Helen was united in marriage to Paul A. Urban on April 27, 1940 at Rapid City, South Dakota. They made their home in Philip until 1941 when they moved to Long Beach, California where Paul worked in the shipyards during WWII. They returned to Philip in 1942.
While in Philip, Helen worked as a bookkeeper for various businesses and at several offices in the Haakon County courthouse.
After retiring they continued to make their home in the Philip community.
Her husband Paul preceded her in death on May 12, 1995.
In August 1997, Helen moved into the Philip Nursing Home, where she has since resided.
Helen was a member of the First Lutheran Church where she served on the Dorcas Circle as well as the Ladies Aid. She was a member of the Haakon County Progressive Extension Club and the Bad River Senior Citizens, all of Philip.
Grateful for having shared her life are a son Bruce Paul "Tiny" Urban and his wife Marlene of Modesto, California; one daughter Susan "Tweetum" Magnuson and her husband Dennis of Rock Springs, Wyoming; four grandchildren Kelli Frankman and her husband John of Burbank, California, Brent Urban and his wife Sonia of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Jerry Magnuson and his wife Desi of Glendale, Arizona; and Doug Magnuson of Rock Springs, Wyoming; one great-granddaughter Abigail Opal Frankman; one sister Elsie Grimes and her husband Louie of Kadoka; two sisters in-law, Maribelle Peterson of Philip, and Winnie Peterson of Palmyra, Missouri; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband Paul, Helen was preceded in death by her parents; and five brothers Halvor, David, Albin, Ted, and Elmer Peterson.
Helen Edith May Urban died Tuesday morning, February 24, 2004 at the Philip Nursing Home.
Visitation was held 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, at the Rush Funeral Home in Philip, and one hour preceding the services at the church on Friday.
Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 27, at the First Lutheran Church in Philip, with Pastor Paul Bly officiating.
Interment was in the Masonic cemetery, Philip.
A memorial is established.

Lola M. Smith was born January 24, 1919, in Kadoka, South Dakota, the daughter of Al and Clara (Rooks) Smith. She grew up on a ranch east of Longvalley in the Wanamaker area. She received her elementary education in that area prior to graduating from St. Mary's High School in Springfield, South Dakota. She received her nurses training at St. Mary's School of Nursing in 1939. She worked as a Registered Nurse in various hospitals throughout the United States. In 1954, she became an anesthetist from Sacred Heart School of Anesthesiology in Yankton. She the worked for twenty-five years for McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, prior to retiring in 1984. After retirement, she continued to make her home in Sioux Falls.
Lola was a member of the Calvary Episcopal Cathedral of Sioux Falls and the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
Grateful for having shared her life are three nephews Alvin Goodman of Longvalley, Daniel Smith of Alvarado, Texas, and Wayne Smith of Texas City, Texas; one niece Virginia Coller and her husband Delbert of Longvalley; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Lola was preceded in death by her parents; one brother Charles Smith; one Sister Thelma Pourier; and one nephew Richard Goodman.

Graveside services were 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 8, at the Kadoka cemetery, with Pastor Ann Schlossnagle officiating.

Josephine M. Jobgen Anderson
age 93 of Renton, Washington, formerly of Philip, South Dakota, died September 2, 2002, at the Valley Medical Center in Renton, Washington.
Josephine M. Mussmann was born February 14, 1909, at Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Fredrick and Cecilia (Ryan) Mussmann.
She grew up and received her education in the Clinton area.
Josephine was united in marriage to Aloysious J. Jobgen on February 12, 1929, in Clinton, Iowa.
They made their home on a ranch near Scenic, South Dakota until the mid 1930’s when they moved to Quinn, South Dakota, where they resided until moving into Philip in the early 1940’s.
While in Philip, Josephine worked as a cook at the Philip High School and at the B&M Café, and later as a nurse at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital until retiring.
Her husband Aloysious preceded her in death on October 9, 1970.
Josephine was united in marriage to Enoch "Pinky" Anderson on April 5, 1972 in Philip. They made their home in Philip, where they owned and operated the North Fork Trailer Park. After his death on July 6, 1985, she moved to Renton, Washington, where she made her home with her daughter Alice.
Josephine was a former member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Bad River Senior Citizens Center of Philip.
Grateful for having shared her life are her three daughters, Cecila Percy and her husband Donald of Apache Junction, Arizona, Alice Stahlecker of Renton, Washington, and Bernadine Robinson and her husband Travis of Crest View, Florida; two step-daughters, Ardith Bauer of Arlington, Texas, and Marsha Sawvell and her husband Don of Quinn, South Dakota; twenty-five grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; sixty-seven great-grandchildren; thirteen step-great-grandchildren; thirty-six great-great-grandchildren; one sister Bernadine Somers of Mitchell, South Dakota; one brother Leonard Mussmann of Clinton, Iowa; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her first husband Aloysious J. Jobgen and her second husband Enoch "Pinky" Anderson, Josephine was preceded in death by a son Charles Jobgen; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; her parents; and nine brothers and sisters.
Visitation was held 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, at the Rush Funeral Chapel with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at the chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial was offered 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 7, 2002 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Tony Grossenburg as celebrant.
Interment was in the Masonic cemetery, Philip.
