Joe Voller

Bowdle -- The Mass of Christian burial for Joe Voller, 98, of Bowdle will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Augustine's Catholic Church, Bowdle. The Rev. Brian Simon will officiate.

Burial will be in St. Augustine's Catholic Church cemetery in Bowdle with Miller Funeral Home of Bowdle in charge of arrangements.

A wake service will be at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Visitation will be begin at 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.

He died Monday, May 1, 2000, at the Bowdle Nursing Home.

Joe Voller was born Jan. 29, 1902, to Katherine (Rohrich) and John Voller near Bowdle. He attended rural school in Modena Township near the family farm.

He married Adeline Aman on Oct. 21, 1931, in Java. They farmed in the Bowdle area until 1943, when they moved into Bowdle. He opened his own auto repair business. He later bought property on the east edge of Bowdle, moved a house onto the property and began an auto repair and salvage business in addition to farming. Since 1995, he had resided at the Bowdle Nursing Home.

He was a member of St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Bowdle.

He was known for inventing or improving machinery and for moving buildings. He assisted many people in the Bowdle area in moving things. He enjoyed camping and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of the Bowdle Nursing Home.; one son, Lloyd G. (Renata) Voller of Bowdle; one daughter, Virginia L. (Harry) Bieber of Bismarck, N.D.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and three sisters.

Casketbearers will be Harlan Buechler, Joe Geier and Joe Thomas, all of Bowdle, Terron Voller of Rapid City and Todd Bieber and Rick Stoppler, both of Bismarck.

Jean A. Shippy

Burnsville, Minn. -- Jean A. Shippy, 75, of Burnsville and formerly of Aberdeen, died Monday, May 1, 2000, at her home.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Trinity Evangelical Free Church, Lakeville, Minn. The Rev. Sandey Wilson and the Rev. Don Reigstad will officiate.

Burial will be in Fort Snelling National cemetery in Bloomington, Minn., with White Funeral Home of Apple Valley, Minn., in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home in Apple Valley. There will also be visitation for one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church in Lakeville.

Jean A. Francoli was born Nov. 6, 1924, in Aberdeen. She lived in Aberdeen and Sioux City, Iowa.

She married Zane Shippy on Oct. 19, 1949. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband of Burnsville; two daughters, Laura Shippy of Lakeville and Mary Shippy of Denver; two sons, Curt Shippy of Burnsville and Charles Shippy of Savage, Minn.; one sister, Catherine Clinton of Aberdeen; and two stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son and one brother.

Shirley Malloy

Firesteel -- The funeral for Shirley Malloy, 60, of Firesteel will be at 2 p.m. MDT Wednesday at the United Parish Church in Timber Lake. The Rev. Young Min Park will officiate.

Burial will be in the Timber Lake cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.

There will be a prayer service at 7 MDT this evening at the church in Timber Lake.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. MDT today at the church.

She died of natural causes Saturday, April 29, 2000, at the Mobridge Regional Hospital.

Shirley Mae Venell was born July 19, 1939, to Carl and Florence (Klucker) Venell at Rapid City. In 1942, they moved to Firesteel, where his parents were employed at the Firesteel Coal Mine. She grew up in Firesteel and attended grade school there. She graduated from high school at Timber Lake in 1958. Following her education, she continued to live in Firesteel.

She married Marles Malloy on Aug. 22, 1965, at Timber Lake. They made their home in Firesteel until moving to Isabel in 1966. In 1970, they returned to Firesteel, where she had since resided.

She was a member of the United Parish of Timber Lake. She worked as a cook for a number of years at the Isabel Cafe. Later she worked as a cook at the Senior Citizens Nutrition Site in Timber Lake.

Survivors include her husband of Firesteel; three sons, David (Jody) Swift of Biddle, Mont., Dean (Paulina) Swift of Aurora, Colo., and Donnie (Joni) Swift of Mobridge; two daughters, Deborah (Ron) Goldade of Timber Lake and Staci (Jim) Krogstad of Spearfish; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.

Casketbearers will be Tim Johnson, Bernie Boysen, Wayne Boysen, Boyd Anderson, Larry Anderson and Brad Haak.

Oliver Vander Vorst

Gettysburg -- The funeral for Oliver Vander Vorst, 81, of Gettysburg was at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Gettysburg. The Rev. Bert Van Essen officiated.

Burial was in the Gettysburg cemetery with military rites. Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg was in charge of arrangements.

He died Monday, April 17, 2000, at his home after a lengthy illness.

Oliver H. Vander Vorst was born Feb. 27, 1919, to Bert and Annie (Dykema) Vander Vorst in Westfield, Emmons County, N.D. He was educated there. He worked with his parents on the family farm until he left for active military duty on April 1, 1942. He served during World War II until Nov. 23, 1945. He served with the Headquarters Battery 915, Field Artillery Battalion 90th Division of the third army under General George Patton. Following his discharge, he attended North Dakota State Normal and Industrial College at Ellendale. Prior to moving into Dewey County, he worked in the Dodge/Plymouth garage in Westfield. In the spring of 1948, he moved to the Mossman/Ridgeview area. He was a farmer and a mechanic and welder throughout his life.

He married Martha Elizabeth Siegle on April 25, 1949. They lived in the Eagle Butte area until 1972, when they moved to the Gettysburg area.

He was a longtime member of the Eagle Butte United Church of Christ, helping with construction of the current building. He later transferred his membership to the Methodist Church of Gettysburg.

Survivors include his wife of Gettysburg; two daughters, Donna (Jerry) Wulf of Eagle Butte and Plankinton, and Rhonda (Kelly) Dennis of Hullett, Wyo.; one son, Wayne (Cathy) Vander Vorst of Gettysburg; one sister, Bessie Fuhrer of Herreid; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother and one brother.

Eltha Hovde

Clark -- The funeral for Eltha Hovde, 82, of Clark will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Good Hope Lutheran Church, rural Willow Lake. The Rev. Krista Henning-Ferkin and the Rev. Kris Ferkin will officiate.

Burial will be in the Good Hope Lutheran cemetery under the direction of Furness Funeral Home, Clark.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

She died Sunday, April 30, 2000, at the Beverly Healthcare Center in Clark.

Eltha Larson was born April 1, 1918, to Elmer and Maggie (Babler) Larson near Vienna. She attended country school in Merton Township.

She married Edwin Hovde on Dec. 9, 1936, at Clark. They lived and farmed in Merton Township until moving into Willow Lake in 1980. He died in 1990. Following his death, she continued living in Willow Lake until becoming a resident of the Roetell Senior Housing a short time ago and lately a resident of the care center.

She was a member of the Good Hope Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She enjoyed embroidering, crocheting, gardening and working with her flowers and apple trees.

Survivors include three sons, LeRoy (Janice) Hovde of Willow Lake, Merlin (Phyllis) Hovde of Lake Preston and Larry (Linda) Hovde of Dell Rapids; one daughter, Sharon (Denny) Hess of Hockessin, Del.; one sister, Elnora Hovde of Clark; two brothers, Kenneth Larson of Watertown and Norman Larson of Belle Fourche; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one daughter.

Casketbearers will be Rick Hovde, David Hovde, Laramie Hovde, Verdon Hovde, Tory Hess and Ryan LaBay.

JoAnn M. "Snooks" Taylor

Aberdeen -- The funeral for JoAnn M. ÒSnooksÓ Taylor, 56, of Aberdeen will be at 10:30 a.m. today at the Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen. The Rev. Steve Meyer will officiate.

Burial will be in Riverside cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to the time of the service today at the funeral home.

She died of natural causes Friday, April 21, 2000, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, N.D.

JoAnn M. Schultz was born Oct. 10, 1943, to Charles and Doris (Hall) Schultz in Aberdeen. She was raised and attended school in Aberdeen. After receiving her education, she moved into Rapid City, where she was an assistant in a veterinary clinic for a couple of years. She moved back to Aberdeen and worked for various veterinarians and she also had her own dog grooming service. She later managed SuperAmerica South for several years. She then worked as a dental assistant. Due to health reasons, she started to pursue other interests.

She volunteered much of her time to the Lions Club, Aberdeen Rural Firefighters, Aberdeen Humane Society, the South Dakota School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, and other charities.

Survivors include one daughter, Michelle (Tom) Nelson of Fargo; one brother, John Schultz of Mina; one sister, Judy Engerbretson of Dos Palos, Calif.; and one grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Barbara Eberle

Hague, N.D. -- The funeral for Barbara Eberle, 85, formerly of Hague will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hague. The Rev. Leonard Eckroth will officiate.

Burial will be in the church cemetery with Myers Funeral Home in Linton, N.D., in charge of arrangements.

A prayer service will be at 7 tonight at the funeral home in Linton.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home in Linton.

She died Monday, May 1, 2000, in Fredericksburg, Va.

Barbara Feist was born June 9, 1914, to Anton and Eva (Feist) Feist in Zeeland, N.D. She grew up near Zeeland and attended country school.

She married Frank Eberle in 1931 in Zeeland. They moved to Hague. They owned and operated a cream station. They also operated the Hague Grocery Store for six years. He died Jan. 7, 1979. She then worked in the Hague Cafe until retiring and moving to Bismarck, N.D., in 1997.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hague, the Church of the Ascension in Bismarck and St. Mary's Altar Society.

She enjoyed crocheting, baking and cooking. She was known for her pies.

Survivors include four sons, Wilfred (Helen) Eberle of Bismarck, Norbert (Jeanette) Eberle of Green Valley, Ariz., Leonard Eberle of Denver, and Daniel (Marguerite) Eberle of Phoenix; two daughters, Eleanor Eberle of Bismarck, and Carol (Gregory) Marsillo of Fredericksburg; three brothers, Anton A. Feist of Bismarck, Frank A. Feist of Minneapolis, and Aloys Feist of Fort Myers, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one grandson, two sisters and two brothers.

Fanny M. Hieta

Dunlap, Ill. -- Fanny M. Hieta, 80, of Dunlap and formerly of Hecla, died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at the Heritage Manor in Chillicothe, Ill.

A private service was held at the Davison-Fulton Anderson Funeral Chapel in Chillicothe.

Burial of her cremains was in the Elliston, Mont. Community cemetery.

Fanny M. Wainio was born Dec. 4, 1919, to Charlie Kurt and Helmi Lotte Saarie Wainio at Ludden, N.D. The family later moved to the Hecla area.

She married Raymond Hieta in 1943. He died in 1990. She was a nursing assistant for the Sisters of Charity at Helena, Mont., before retiring.

Survivors include three sisters, Aune Carter of Dunlap, Berenice Oest of Havana, Ill., and Doreen Mathis of Marion, Ark.; and one brother, Edwin Wainio of Dunlap.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, one half brother and one sister in infancy.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate, 900 Main St., Peoria, Ill. 61602.

Donald J. Wilbur

Ellendale, N.D. -- The funeral for Donald J. Wilbur, 92, of Ellendale will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale. The Rev. Don Brown will officiate.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens at Aberdeen.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today and from 10:30 a.m. to the time of the service Tuesday at the funeral chapel in Ellendale.

He died Friday, April 28, 2000, at the Prince of Peace Care Center in Ellendale.

Donald J. Wilbur was born Feb. 26, 1908, to Harry and Emma (Hamlin) Wilbur in the Cottonwood Lake area of Spink County. He was raised and educated in the Cottonwood Lake area. He began his farming career by working for other farmers. In 1930, he attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, where he studied to be an electrician. He returned to farming due to unavailability of electrical jobs.

He married Gail Kinman on Aug. 26, 1933, in Redfield. They made their home near Sioux Falls for a brief time before moving into Tulare. In 1942, they moved into Ellendale, where he operated the Thorpe farm and worked at the Ellendale Livestock Sales Company. He remained on the Thorpe farm for 50 years. He retired from active farming in 1978. She died Sept. 25, 1992, and he continued to reside on the farm until 1993, when he moved into Ellendale. In March 1997, he entered the Prince of Peace Care Center, where he resided until his death.

Survivors include one son, Larry (Yvonne) Wilbur of Sturgis; two sisters, Faye Waddington of Redfield and Bertha Allen of Aurora, Colo.; two granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one brother and three sisters.

Casketbearers will be Tom Thorpe, Jim Thorpe, Don Thorpe, Tom Pahl, Emil Pahl and Don Uecker.
