Agnes H. Chilson

Bristol -- The funeral for Agnes H. Chilson, 91, of Bristol and formerly of Webster and the Pickerel Lake area, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. John's Lutheran Church, Webster. The Rev. William Olsen will officiate.

Burial will be in the Webster cemetery with Mohs Funeral Home of Webster in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.

She died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol.

Agnes H. Hanson was born Dec. 14, 1908, to Jacob and Christina (Leines) Hanson near Waubay in Egeland Township. She graduated from Waubay High School in 1926. She attended Aberdeen Business College and then was employed at Hub City Iron Works in Aberdeen. She was later employed at the Elevator Store in Webster.

She married Herman P. Chilson on March 31, 1930, in Moorhead, Minn. They made their home in Webster, where she was a homemaker. He died in 1986. She became a resident of Sun Dial Manor in Bristol in June 1994.

She was a member of Egeland Lutheran Church near Waubay before becoming a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Webster, where she served as president of the women's group, was a Sunday school teacher and a choir member. She was a member of the Progressive Reading Circle, was a Red Cross volunteer during World War II and was a member of the Grey Ladies of Bethesda in Webster, Gideons Auxiliary and Sons of Norway.

She enjoyed cooking and gardening.

Survivors include one son, Charles (Virginia) Chilson of Pickerel Lake; one daughter, Joan (James) Iverson of Sioux Falls; one sister, Olga Mohaw of Aberdeen; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, her husband and one brother.

Casketbearers will be Paul Iverson, David Chilson, John Mohs, Willie Kungel, Leon VanderLinden and Richard Grorud.

Walter Robert 'W.R., ' 'Bob' Bauer

Sioux Falls -- Walter Robert 'W.R., ' 'Bob' Bauer, 76, of Sioux Falls and formerly of the area, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at his home.

His memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls.

Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Webster City cemetery with George Boom Funeral Home of Sioux Falls in charge of arrangements.

Walter Robert Bauer was born June 30, 1923, to Walter and Eva (Lundgren) Bauer near Webster. His early years were spent mostly in the Webster, Bowdle and Aberdeen areas with a short time in Eau Claire, Wis. He graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1940. He entered the U.S. Army in March 1942, where he served in the European Theatre of Germany and France. He was honorably discharged in December 1945.

He married Christine Tobin of Langford on Sept. 6, 1946, in Aberdeen. He began working as a tester with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. They lived in several towns before settling in Sioux Falls in 1953. He retired in 1985 after 39 years of service.

He was a charter member of Grace Lutheran Church, where he had been a past congregational president, church council member, usher and member of the men's Bible study breakfast. He was a life member and past president of the Communication Workers of American Local 7500. He was involved with several children's groups including the Boy Scouts at Children's Care Hospital and School, Gra-Y basketball and Indian Guides with the YMCA and the Big Brother/Big Sister Program.

Survivors include his wife of Sioux Falls; one son, Tim Bauer of Sioux Falls; one daughter, Kathleen (Philip) Doescher of La Crosse, Wis.; one sister, Joan Ness of Sioux Falls; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be sent to Grace Lutheran Church Building Fund, 3300 E. 18th St., Sioux Falls, S.D., 57103.

Margurite Clausen

Aberdeen -- Margurite Clausen, 97, of Aberdeen and formerly of Ashton, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at the Aberdeen Living Center.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Ashton. The Rev. Dan Hooks will officiate.

Burial will be in the Ashton cemetery under the direction of Thelen Funeral Home of Redfield.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 tonight at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.

Margurite Hansen was born March 23, 1902, to Lars and Mary (Jensen) Hansen in Spink County. She graduated from Ashton High School and then worked on the family farm.

In 1923, she married Alexander H. Fisher. They farmed in the Ashton area.

She married Harvey Clausen in 1930. They farmed in the Ashton area. She ran the Mellette Corner Station from 1943 to 1970. They then moved into Mellette. In 1986, they moved into Redfield. She became a resident at the Aberdeen Living Center in 1995.

She enjoyed crocheting, flowers and quilting.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Mellette.

Survivors include two sons, Louis Fisher of El Paso, Texas, and Marvin (Lillian) Fisher of Gadsden, Ala.; one daughter, Venoris (Bertice) Latham of Redfield; one brother, Clarence Hansen of Ashton; 14 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister and one son.

Casketbearers will be John Jansen, Jack Jansen, Wayne Helkenn, Mike Helkenn, Allan Lewis and Lester Hansen.

Ivan H. Tennis

Palm Desert, Calif. -- Mass of Christian burial for Ivan H. Tennis, 80, of Palm Desert and formerly of Conde, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Catholic Church in Conde. The Rev. Mathew Vazhappily will officiate.

Burial will be in St. John's cemetery at Conde under the direction of Thelen Funeral Home of Redfield.

A rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at the church.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today and for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.

He died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at Rancho Mirage Healthcare Center in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

Ivan H. Tennis was born Nov. 19, 1919, to Louis and Germaine (Cozien) Tennis in Conde. He graduated from Conde High School and served in the Army during World War II.

He married Virginia Payne in 1948, and they lived in California. He worked in the aircraft industry until his retirement.

Survivors include one daughter, Germaine (Jerry) Sunday of Oregon City, Ore.; two sons, Lewie (Debbie) Tennis of Woodland Hills, Calif., and Joseph Samuel Lively of Newberry Park, Calif.; and one sister, Violet Pomeroy of Seattle.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Helen Lehmkuhl

Gettysburg -- Helen Lehmkuhl, 78, of Gettysburg died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at the Oahe Manor in Gettysburg.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gettysburg. The Rev. Kevin Moore will officiate.

Burial will be in the Gettysburg cemetery under the direction of Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg.

There will be a prayer service at 7:30 tonight at the church.

Helen Harriet Fox was born March 19, 1921, to William and Coral (Pomeroy) Fox at Vienna. She moved into Seneca, where she received her education at an early age.

She married Merlin F. Lehmkuhl on Oct. 8, 1938, at Lebanon. They moved into the Gettysburg-Agar area to farm. She entered the Oahe Manor in December 1998.

Survivors include her husband of Gettysburg; two sons, Roger Lehmkuhl of Pierre and Ernie Lehmkuhl of Rapid City; two daughters, Cora Atack of Pierre and Bonnie Timp of Mankato, Minn.; one brother, Winifred Fox of Onida; two sisters, Neva Quiett of Gettysburg and Thelma Brazil of Yorba Linda, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, one sister and two grandchildren.

Casketbearers will be Greg Timp, Kelly Timp, Keith Atack, Tom Lehmkuhl, Pamela Sverk and Tamara Darnel.

Merlin A. Hoines

Britton - The funeral for Merlin A. Hoines, 83, of Britton will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the First Lutheran Church, Britton. The Rev. Carl Hansen will officiate.

Price Funeral Chapel in Britton is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today at the funeral chapel and for one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.

He died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at Wheatcrest Hills in Britton.

Merlin Alfred Hoines was born May 6, 1916, to Olaus A. and Ane Marie (Staael) Hoines on a farm near Veblen. He graduated from country school and attended high school in Veblen. After receiving his education, he farmed with his father until 1939.

On Dec. 26, 1938, he married Signe Stave of New Effington. They farmed on the Hoines farm near Veblen until 1942, when they moved to Hammer. They continued to farm until July 1947. At that time they moved to one of the Thorp farms, where he worked for W.W. Thorp for about 15 years. He served as the custodian for the Marshall County Memorial Hospital in Britton from 1963 until the mid-1980s, when failing eyesight made it necessary for him to retire. He was the first ambulance driver for the Marshall County Ambulance Service. He suffered a stroke in April 1997 and entered Wheatcrest Hills in July 1997. He was a resident there at the time of his death.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Britton.

Survivors include his wife of Britton; one daughter, JoAnn (Charles) Fiala of Council Bluffs, Iowa; two sons, Wayne (Carol) Hoines of Lake City and Robert (Barbara) Hoines of Watertown; one sister, Clara Olson of Veblen; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son in infancy, five brothers and three sisters.

Casketbearers will be Richard Chapin, David Hoines, Richard Haaland, Steven Hoines, James Hoines and Curtis Olson.

Barbara Mitzel

Paynesville, Minn. -- Mass of Christian burial for Barbara Mitzel, 95, of Cold Spring, Minn., and formerly of Aberdeen, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 409 Third Ave. S.E. The Rev. John Lantsberger will officiate.

Burial will be in Sacred Heart cemetery with Schriver's Memorial Mortuary, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W., in charge of arrangements.

A liturgical wake service will be at 7 tonight followed by a Catholic Daughters of Americas rosary at 7:30, both at the mortuary.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today and from 8 to 10 a.m. Friday, all at the mortuary.

She died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at the Paynesville Community Hospital.

Barbara Senger was born Nov. 8, 1904, to Joseph and Johanna (Feist) Senger 10 miles north of Hague, N.D. This is where she was raised and attended Prairie School.

She married Carl Mitzel on Feb. 15, 1926, near Hague. They made their home on a farm near Ridgeview on the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation. He died in June 1936. She and her family moved to Strasburg, N.D., where they lived for several years. In 1942, they moved to Aberdeen. She was employed with Northern State College as a cook for seven years. She then worked at Mother Joseph Manor's kitchen as a cook for several years. She later was a cook at the Roncalli High School cafeteria until she retired in 1985. She moved to Cold Spring in 1996 to be near her family.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aberdeen, Sacred Heart Altar Society Band No. 11, Women of the Moose, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Catholic Daughters, Auxiliary Women of the Relief Corps No. 18 and the Milwaukee Women's Club.

Survivors include one daughter, Joan (Jack) Loher of San Jose, Calif.; three sons, William (Ragartha) Mitzel of Derry, N.H., Carl (Patricia) Mitzel of Richmond, Minn., and Harry Salwei of Mansfield; one brother, Lawrence Senger of Linton, N.D.; one sister, Helen Weigel of Aberdeen; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four sons, two brothers and one sister.

Casketbearers will be grandsons, Larry Schoenfeld, Paul Mitzel, Mark Loher, Gary Weismann, Darrell Mitzel and Anthony Mitzel.

JoAnn M. Schmidt

Faulkton -- The funeral for JoAnn M. Schmidt, 69, of Faulkton will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Faulkton. The Rev. Randy Phillips will officiate.

Burial will be in St. Thomas Catholic cemetery under the direction of Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton.

Visitation will be until 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and until the time of the service Wednesday at the church.

She died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at the Aberdeen Living Center.

JoAnn M. Conlon was born May 31, 1930, to Joseph and Winifred (Ryan) Conlon at Faulkton. She was raised in Faulkton, where she attended school and graduated from high school in 1948. She attended Mount Marty College in Yankton for one year and then graduated from Northern State Teacher's College in Aberdeen. She taught school in Iroquois, Onida and several country schools.

She married Paul J. Schmidt on June 27, 1955, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Faulkton. They lived on a farm west of Orient, where they raised three daughters. In 1990, they moved into Faulkton. They moved to Aberdeen in October 1999 because of health reasons.

She enjoyed reading, playing cards and visiting with friends and neighbors.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Orient, St. Joseph's Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of America, St. Thomas Catholic Church in Faulkton and the Altar Society.

Survivors include her husband of Aberdeen; three daughters, Peggy (Jack) Sieben of Mission Hills, Kathy (Randy) Weisbeck of Aberdeen and Carol Schmidt of Houston; two brothers, Jim Conlon of St. Paul, Minn., and Tom Conlon of South St. Paul, Minn.; three grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two infant sisters.

Casketbearers will be Harold Witte, Marvin Eschenbaum, Mark Cotton, Gary Bowar, Larry Bowar and Terry Witte.
