Howard Eino Maki

Austin, Texas -- Howard Eino Maki, 60, formerly of Ludden, N.D., died of natural causes on Saturday, May 6, 2000, in Austin.

His graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Ludden cemetery. Dahlstrom Funeral Home of Oakes, N.D., is in charge of arrangements.

Howard Eino Maki was born Sept. 24, 1939, to Emil and Hilda (Buro) Maki in Ludden. He grew up and attended school there. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956 to 1958. He later made his home in Texas and California.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.

Bob Olander

Solana Beach, Calif. -- Bob Olander, 77, of Solana Beach and formerly of Aberdeen, died Saturday, May 27, 2000, in Encinitas, Calif.

His memorial service will be at 3 p.m. today in Village Church in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.

Bob Olander was born July 2, 1922, to Helen and Adolph Olander in Aberdeen. He graduated from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. He was employed at various electronics and ordnance firms as general manager and president before retiring.

Survivors include his wife of Solana Beach; four sons, Craig Olander of Terrilingua, Texas, Richard Olander of Tacoma, Wash., Robert Olander Jr. of Granada Hills, Calif., and William Charles Olander of Seattle; and one sister, Jane Green of Kirksville, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Clenten Thomas Miles

Aurora, Colo. -- Clenten Thomas Miles, 79, of Aurora and formerly of the area, died Sunday, April 30, 2000, in Aurora. His funeral was May 6 in Colorado.

Burial was in Fort Logan National cemetery at Denver. Moore Howard Aurora Chase Mortuary in Aurora was in charge of arrangements.

Clenten Thomas Miles was born April 7, 1921, to Weston and Mary (Phillips) Miles. He attended Britton Public Schools and Britton High School.

He married Florence Joyce Wegner on Oct. 26, 1941. He served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II and was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. He earned a Bronze Star with an oak leaf cluster and a Purple Heart with an oak leaf cluster. He was in sales all his life and owned Interstate Turbo Supply in Commerce City, Colo.

He was a member of Burns Memorial United Methodist Church in Aurora, the Masonic Lodge No. 65 in Groton and the American Legion Post No. 0023 in Aurora.

He enjoyed keeping the grounds at his weekend home in the mountains attractive.

Survivors include his wife of Aurora; two sons, Patrick Brian Miles of San Francisco and Daniel (Roslyn) Miles of Denver; one daughter, Claudia Anne Miles of Parker, Colo.; two brothers, Dr. Wilfred W. Miles and James Miles; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials are suggested to Burns Memorial United Methodist Church, 1095 Newark St., Aurora, Colo. 80010.

Evelyn Miller

Webster -- The funeral for Evelyn Miller, 79, of Webster and formerly of the Blue Dog Lake and Ortley area, will be at 2 p.m. today at the Ortley Free Lutheran Church. The Rev. Roy Johnson will officiate.

Burial will be in the Lakewood cemetery at Waubay with Fiksdal Funeral Service of Webster in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. today at the funeral home in Webster and prior to the service today at the church in Ortley.

She died Monday, May 22, 2000, at Lake Area Hospital in Webster.

Evelyn Fay Dorsett was born April 26, 1921, to Clifford and Ida (Monserud) Dorsett on the family farm near Ortley. She attended country school near her home and graduated from Waubay High School in 1939. She worked at the post office in Ortley and then moved to Minneapolis, where she worked at Woolworth's Department Store.

She married Dale Miller on March 3, 1942, at Minneapolis. They made their home and farmed the Miller family farm in Alto Township in Roberts County, near Ortley. They retired in 1979 and moved to Webster. In 1993 they moved to Blue Dog Lake near Waubay. In 1998, due to high water, they moved their home to Webster. She entered Bethesda Home of Webster in April.

She was a member of the Ortley Free Lutheran Church and was active in Ladies Aid.

She enjoyed cooking, sharing new recipes with family and friends and playing cards.

Survivors include her husband of Webster; one son, Gary (Caroll) Miller of Summit; one brother, John Dorsett of Phoenix; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son in infancy, two brothers, one sister and one grandchild.

Casketbearers will be Todd Brattelid, Troy Brattelid, Johnnie Dorsett, Jay Dorsett, Larry Wagner and David Wagner.

Lyle R. Osterman

Rapid City -- Lyle R. Osterman, 77, of Rapid City and formerly of Aberdeen and Webster, died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Services were May 30 in the First Presbyterian Church, Rapid City. The Rev. David Miller officiated.

Burial was in the Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis with military honors by Rushmore Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1273. Osheim-Catron Funeral Home in Rapid City was in charge of arrangements.

Lyle R. Osterman was born April 14, 1923, to Peter and Dena (Ludvigson) Osterman in Webster. He attended school in Aberdeen and graduated from high school there. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and served in England and the European Theater. Following his military service, he attended and graduated from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks with a bachelor of arts degree in accounting.

On Feb. 23, 1946, he married Eleanor Letherer in Aberdeen. They moved to Rapid City in 1952. He worked for several trucking firms in Rapid City, including Buckingham Transportation, Neff Trucking, Milwaukee Railroad and Barber Transportation.

He was a life member of Rapid City Elks Lodge No. 1187, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

He loved hunting, bowling and dancing.

Survivors include his wife of Rapid City.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.

Clayton N. Oberle

Bristol -- Mass of Christian burial for Clayton N. Oberle, 82, of Bristol will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Bristol.

Burial will be in Bristol Community cemetery with Mohs Funeral Home of Webster in charge of arrangements. Military graveside services will be by the Bristol Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service today at the church.

He died Monday, May 22, 2000, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.

Clayton Nicholas Oberle was born July 10, 1917, to George and Gertrude Anna (Stoikes) Oberle in Mellette. He attended school and graduated from Mellette High School in 1936. He then became employed with the Milwaukee Railroad. He entered the U.S. Army in 1941, where he served in Newfoundland and England. He received his discharge in 1945, returned to Mellette and became a depot agent for the railroad.

He married Marvis "Peggy" Mead on Nov. 12, 1949. He was a depot agent in Aberdeen; Cologne, Minn.; Summit; Fairmount, N.D.; Andover; Bristol and Webster. He retired in the fall of 1980. In 1981, he became finance officer for the city of Bristol and served in that capacity for 15 years.

He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and served as finance director from 1982 to 1992. He was a member of the Morse Telegraph Club, American Association of Retired Persons, Brotherhood of Transportation and Communication International and held several state offices in the North Dakota American Legion.

He was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Twins fan. He enjoyed gardening, reading and bird watching.

Survivors include his wife of Bristol; three sons, Thomas W. (Monica) Oberle of Mentone, Ala., Robert C. Oberle of Custer and Donald P. (Melinda) Oberle of Sioux City, Iowa; three daughters, Jean M. (Leo) Keiser of Beresford, Mary Beth (Marc) Anderson of Sioux Falls and Beverly A. (Christopher) Jessen of Cave Creek, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Casketbearers will be Thomas W. Oberle, Robert C. Oberle, Donald P. Oberle, Leo A. Keiser, Marc R. Anderson and Christopher C. Jessen.

Corbin Scott Roper

Waubay -- Private family services will be held for Corbin Scott Roper, son of William and Katrina Roper of Waubay.

He was stillborn Thursday, June 1, 2000, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Fiksdal Funeral Service of Webster is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his parents of Waubay; two sisters, Tierra Roper and Billie Roper, both at home; his grandparents, Shirley Roper of Chico, Calif., and Jack and Katherine Kempter, all of Waubay; and his great-grandparents, Barbara Kempter and Patricia Barrett, both of Waubay.

Marie Braun

Tappen, N.D. -- Marie Braun, 70, of Tappen died Friday, June 2, 2000, at Medcenter One in Bismarck, N.D., following a lengthy illness.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Napoleon, N.D. The Rev. Thomas Krupich and the Rev. Gerard Braun will officiate.

Burial will be in the church cemetery with the Dahlstrom Funeral Home of Napoleon in charge of arrangements.

There will be a rosary service at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Monday, all at the funeral home.

Marie Keifer was born Feb. 16, 1930, to John and Teresa (Oches) Keifer at Hague, N.D. She received her education in rural Emmons County, N.D., schools and continued to live on the family farm near Strasburg, N.D.

She married Edmond Braun on July 4, 1949, at St. Aloyius Catholic Church at rural Strasburg. Following their marriage they moved to Bismarck for three years. They purchased a farm home south of Tappen, where they have lived and farmed for the past 41 years.

She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Tappen and the church altar society.

She enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening and playing cards.

Survivors include her husband of Tappen; four sons, Ron (Phyllis) Braun of Rawlins, Wyo., Don (Lori) Braun of Tappen, Bob (Marilyn) Braun of Kulm, N.D., and Francis (JoEll) Braun of Thornton, Colo.; one daughter, Kathleen (Gary) Doll of Devils Lake, N.D.; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother and two brothers.

Casketbearers will be Tom Keifer, Reggie Braun, Gary Keifer, Eric Braun, Bobby Braun and Arlo Schiele.

Donald Pfeifle

Columbus, Ohio -- The funeral for Donald Pfeifle, 56, of Columbus and formerly of Eureka, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church in Eureka. The Rev. Grace Torrance of Bowdle will officiate.

Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors by Fred Weller American Legion Post No. 186 of Eureka. Straubs Funeral Home of Eureka is in charge of arrangements.

He died of natural causes on Saturday, May 20, 2000, at his home.

Donald Pfeifle was born Jan. 14, 1944, to Solomon and Otellia (Lang) Pfeifle at Eureka. He grew up and was educated in Eureka. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He had lived in Columbus since 1967. He lived with his adopted family, the John and Sarah Noll family in Columbus, for several years. He was a retired baker.

He was a member of the Bakery Confectionery Union and the Eureka American Legion.

Survivors include three brothers, Stanley Pfeifle and Darrell Pfeifle, both of Eureka, and Clarence Pfeifle of Fontanelle, Iowa; three sisters, Scharlene Pfeifle and Gladys Pfeifle, both of Eureka, and Elizabeth Pfeifle of Hannaford, N.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Casketbearers will be Gary Ackerman, Dennis Pfeifle, Allen Adam, Kenneth Serr, Theodore Steinbach and Don Lang.
