Loren Schiefelbein

CLEAR LAKE -- Funeral services for Loren Schiefelbein, 75, Clear Lake, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake with the Rev. Peggy Zerface officiating.

Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Clear Lake.

Visitation will be Friday from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Crawford-Eng Funeral Home in Clear Lake and Saturday at the church prior to the services.

Loren Schiefelbein died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, in Alpharetta, Ga.

Edward Lehrke

BROWNS VALLEY, Minn. -- Edward Lehrke, Browns Valley, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Zion Lutheran Church at Browns Valley.

Visitation will be in the Larson Funeral Home at Browns Valley Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Vernon Enevoldsen

WHITE -- Vernon S. Enevoldsen, 90, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, in a Sioux Falls hospital.

Funeral services were this morning (Feb. 17) in the Morningside Community Church at Brookings with burial in the United Cemetery near Badger.

The Eidsness Funeral Home of Brookings was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Enevoldsen was born Jan. 24, 1909, at Badger and was educated in the Badger, Bruce and Brookings area schools.

He married Minn Smidt Aug. 4, 1934, in Parker. The couple lived in Brookings, Arlington, Hot Springs, Burke, Pickstown, Spearfish and Custer. The majority of his career was with the S.D. Department of Game, Fish and Parks.

Mr. Engevoldsen was involved in the early development of many state recreation areas and roadside parks in South Dakota and was a district park supervisor at Oakwood Lakes State Park. He retired in 1974 and the couple moved to White in 1976.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Myron of Brookings; a daughter, Myrna Holleman of Ham Lake, Minn.; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Alice Cunningham of Brookings and Rozella Cunningham of Camas Valley, Ore.

Alfred Gonzenbach

MILBANK -- Funeral services for longtime Milbank businessman Alfred Gonzenbach, 96, will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 14, in the Central United Methodist Church at Milbank. The Rev. Mark Holland will officiate. Music will be presented by organist Linda Stengel, vocalist Mark Miller and accompanists Linda Stengel and Rev. Holland.

Burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mr. Gonzenbach's grandchildren, David and Trudi Gonzenbach, Lauri Gilbert, William and Hans Law, Sarah Theis and Annaliese, Jonathan and Maria Feekes.

Visitation will be in the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home at Milbank today (Saturday) from 4 to 9 p.m. and in the church Sunday one hour before the services. Family members are asked to meet in the church by 1:45 p.m. Sunday to attend the services.

He died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, in a MiIbank hospital.

Mr. Gonzenbach was born July 6, 1902, in Roggwil, Switzerland, to Alfred and Elisa (Gsell) Gonzenbach. He was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelische Kirchgemeinde at Roggwil.

He learned to make cheese as a young man and in November 1924 he immigrated to Wisconsin to use his cheese making skills. He worked in various locations and in Antigo, Wis., he met Alfred Nef. The two Swiss partners founded the Valley Queen Cheese Factory in Milbank in 1929.

He married Trudy Hauser Sept. 12, 1935, in Roggwil. The couple arrived in Milbank in October 1935.

Mr. Gonzenbach was a member of the United Methodist Church and was an active citizen in Milbank. He was a volunteer fireman for 37 years, a member of the Milbank City Council and active in the dairy community. He was a member of the Masons for 67 years. He and his partner, Alfred Nef, were named Outstanding South Dakota Businessmen in 1964. Mrs. Gonzenbach died in 1997.

He was proud of his Swiss heritage that was demonstrated in his hobbies of managing his farm land, caring for his lake property and harvesting of apples.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Max and Jeanne of Milbank; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth and Ralph Colby of Minneapolis and Heidi and Ron Feekes of Osage, Iowa; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law, Lisa and Karl Blattner of Switzerland.

Amelia Highstreet

ORTONVILLE, Minn. -- Amelia Ella Highstreet, 76, Ortonville, died Thursday, March 11, 1999, at an Ortonville nursing home.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 15, in the New Life Community Baptist Church at Ortonville with the Rev. Kory Tedrick officiating. The organist will be Marjean Rademacher.

Burial will be in the Milbank, S.D., City Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be staff and residents of Northridge Residence. Active pallbearers will be Michael, Stephen and Timothy Barr, James Benshoof, David Macy and Melvin Reinke.

Visitation will be in the Larson Funeral Home at Ortonville Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. and in the church Monday one hour preceding the services.

Amelia Highstreet was born July 7, 1922, at Hurley, S.D., to Henry and Nancy (Edwards) Hoogestraat. She attended a country school near Milbank, graduating from the eighth grade. She had a news stand in the Austin, Minn., post office for several years around 1966 and then was involved with volunteer work at Mount Sinai Hospital in Minneapolis.

After moving to the Northridge Residence, she distributed neck covers to the residents and helped in the beauty shop and activity center. She also helped fold and seal correspondence, shredding paper and knitting hangers.

She enjoyed card games, bingo, cribbage and especially Twins baseball which was highlighted be attending a Twins game with Dr. Ross and his family. She received two World Series balls, which were autographed by all the players.

She is survived by three sisters and a brother-in-law, Leona Hanson of Milbank and Ida Belle Diers and Betty and Bob Barr, all of Ortonville; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Delmar and Imogene Highstreet of Sheridan Wyo., and William and Ardy Hoogestraat of Anoka.

Bertie Granaas

Betty L. Krause, 77, 218 21st St. SW, widow of Larry Krause, died this morning (Saturday) in a Watertown hospital.

Funeral services will be announced by the Crawford Funeral Chapel.

Glenn Patridge

MILBANK -- Glenn Patridge, 75, Milbank, died Thursday evening, March 11, 1999, at the scene of a two-car accident near Cedar Mills, Minn.

Funeral services are pending at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home at Milbank.

Neil Stianson

Funeral services for Neil Stianson, 52, 16252 455th Ave., will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, in the Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Del Olivier officiating. Burial will be in the Fron Cemetery at Roslyn.

Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel at Watertown on Monday, March 15, and in the church Tuesday before the services. The family is requested to meet at the church by 12:15 p.m. Tuesday for a prayer service.

Mr. Stianson died Thursday, March 11, 1999, in a Rochester, Minn., hospital.

Lydia Nelson

TORONTO -- Lydia E. Nelson, 96, Toronto, died Friday evening, March 12, 1999, in a Sioux Falls nursing home.

Funeral services are pending at the Crawford-Eng Funeral Home at Clear Lake.

Thelma Riggenholt

Mrs. (Henry) Thelma Riggenholt, 86, 801 N. Broadway, died Friday, March 12, 1999, in a Watertown care center.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 15, in the Calvary Lutheran Church at Wallace with the Rev. Roy B. Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Telemarken Cemetery near Wallace.

Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel at Watertown Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. and in the church Monday prior to the services. The family is requested to meet at the church by 1 p.m. Monday for a prayer service.

Betty Krause

Betty L. Krause, 77, 218 21st St. SW, widow of Larry Krause, died this morning (Saturday) in a Watertown hospital.

Funeral services will be announced by the Crawford Funeral Chapel.

Lillian Bear

MILBANK -- Lillian Bear, 83, Milbank, died this morning (Saturday) in a Milbank hospital.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 1999, in the Mundwiler Funeral Home at Mibank with burial in the Milbank City Cemetery.

Visitation will be in the funeral home one hour preceding the services.

Jerry DesLauriers

HURON - Jerry DesLauriers, 76, Huron, died Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, in a hospital at Sioux Falls.

Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. in the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish.

Private burial will be in St. Martin Cemetery.

Visitation will be today (Thursday) in the Welter Funeral Home from 1 to 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a celebration of life service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday one hour prior to the services in the church.

Jerome Duane DesLauriers, the son of Harvey and Mavyne (St. Peter) DesLauriers, was born July 6, 1933, in Aberdeen. The family was living on a farm near Raymond at the time of his birth. He grew up on the family farm, attended schools in Raymond and graduated from Raymond High School.

July 11, 1953, he married Verla Hilmoe in Clark. Oct. 1, 1954, they moved to Huron. He worked at Montgomery Wards until December of 1955 and Jan. 1, 1956, he began working for Verschoor Chevrolet. He worked there until 1971 when Ralph Thomas purchased the business. In 1973, Jerry and Al Hawks purchased the business. Jerry sold his interest in the business to Hawks in 1980. He then started DesLauriers Auto Sales Oct. 1, 1982, which he owned until selling the business to his son, Mark in 1998. Although he never officially retired, he actively enjoyed going to the business everyday to work.

Baseball always was an important part of his life and he played for many years in the position of catcher. During his playing days, he was a member of three S.D. Amateur championship teams of 1956, 1957 and 1958, playing for the Huron Stahl Flyers. He then founded the Huron Indians baseball team and was player/manager for the team winning the 1960 South Dakota state championship - the only state championship won by a Huron baseball team. He was inducted into the S.D. Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame in 1991. He was a vice president of the S.D. Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame for many years. He also enjoyed watching sports.

Survivors include his wife, Verla of Huron; two sons, Dan (Diane) DesLauriers of Mitchell and Mark (Staci) DesLauriers of Huron; one daughter, Cheryle (Gus) Marcus of Huron; six grandchildren; two sisters, Arlene Sutton of De Smet and Pat Danforth of Watertown; one brother-in-law, John Solheim of Redfield; and two sisters-in-law, Erlene DesLauriers of Clark and Wanda DesLauriers of Watertown.

Jordyn Gullickson

LAKE PRESTON - Jordyn Ann Gullickson, 2, Lake Preston, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, in a Sioux Falls hospital.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Lake Preston Lutheran Church.

Burial will be in the North Preston Lutheran Cemetery, rural Lake Preston.

Visitation will be today (Friday) from 5 to 8 p.m. in the church with a 7 p.m. prayer service.

The Johnson-Henry Funeral Chapel of Lake Preston is in charge of arrangements.

She was born June 29, 2002, at Watertown to Darin and Sherry (Kjellsen) Gullickson of Lake Preston. She was baptized at North Preston Lutheran Church, rural Lake Preston, Aug. 20, 2002. At 2 weeks old, she was diagnosed with a rare congenital heart defect. After several attempts to repair her heart, she received a heart transplant in Ann Arbor, Mich., at the age of 8 months. She continued to battle complications of the transplant and immunosuppression throughout the course of her brief life, facing each day with a blessed spirit and a contagious smile. She enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends, as well as strangers. She would blow a kiss, wave hello or goodbye and sign "I love you" to all she would encounter. Though her life was short, she touched the hearts and souls of many across the country.

Survivors include her parents, Darin and Sherry Gullickson, two sisters Amanda and Michelle Bunker, a brother Darrik Bunker, all of Lake Preston; maternal grandparents, John and Verlie DeVries of Arlington; and paternal grandparents, Roger and Sandra Gullickson of Lake Preston.
