Kathleen Ann Paul

Portland, Ore. -- Kathleen Ann Paul, 75, of Portland and formerly of Aberdeen, died of cancer Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000, in Portland.

A memorial was Aug. 6 at Portland Elks Lodge No. 142. Gateway Little Chapel of the Chimes in Portland was in charge of arrangements.

Kathleen Ann Hegley was born March 24, 1925, in Aberdeen. She attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Central High School in 1943. She moved to Portland in 1948.

She married Dan Paul in 1979 and they owned C&H; Vacuum Center for 12 years. She retired in 1997.

Survivors include her husband of Portland; three sons, Christopher S. Mitchell of Seattle, Dana L. Mitchell of Portland and Eric J. Mitchell of Bali, Indonesia; one brother, William Hegley of Jacksonville, Fla.; and one sister, Dona Huych of Desert Hot Springs, Calif.

The family prefers memorials to the Elks Children Eye Clinic, 3375 Terwilliger Blvd. S.W., Portland, Ore. 97201.

Gerald 'Jerry' C. Schlueter

Frankfort -- The funeral for Gerald "Jerry" C. Schlueter, 63, of Frankfort will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Messiah Lutheran Church in Redfield. The Rev. Peter M. Utecht will officiate.

Burial of cremains will be at a later date. Thelen Funeral Home of Redfield is in charge of arrangements.

A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

He died of natural causes Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Gerald C. Schlueter was born Dec. 22, 1936, to Albert L. and Opal M. (Terrill) Schlueter in Canistota. He graduated from Canistota High School in 1954. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1957. He received a bachelor of science degree in education from Dakota State University in 1961 and a master's in administration from South Dakota State University.

He married Elizabeth "Betty" Kosters on Dec. 2, 1961, in Madison. He taught school in Montrose and worked in the Department of Education of Pierre. He served as secondary principal in Fort Pierre and Dupree. He served as superintendent at Fairfax and Conde. They lived in Conde for the last four years.

He was a member of the American Legion in Conde and various education associations.

He enjoyed collecting things, reading, and was an avid outdoorsman.

Survivors include his wife of Frankfort; one son, Wade (Amy) Schlueter of Alcester; two daughters, Darcy (Chad) Harlander of Hutchinson, Minn., and Dodie Wangerin of Mitchell; one sister, Donna Larsen of Sioux Falls; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Sister Miriam Zeig

Aberdeen -- Sister Miriam Zeig, 85, a sister of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, died of natural causes Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel at Presentation Heights in Aberdeen. The Rev. James Wolf will officiate.

Burial will be in the Sacred Heart cemetery at Aberdeen. Spitzer-Osthus Funeral Home, 320 Sixth Ave. S.E., is in charge of arrangements.

A wake service will be at 7 tonight in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7 tonight and from 8 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday, all at the chapel.

Mary Ann Zeig on Oct. 19, 1915, to Nickolas and Margaret (Schwebach) Zeig in Dell Rapids. She graduated from Dell Rapids High School.

She entered Presentation Convent in August 1934. She made her profession to the Presentation Congregation on Aug. 11, 1938. She served the Presentation ministries through her work in dietary, as a housekeeper, baker and dining room attendant. She ministered at St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen, St. Joseph Hospital in Mitchell, St. Thomas School in Madison and St. Mary's School in Sioux Falls. She also served in the Altar Bread room at Presentation Heights in Aberdeen and in the sewing room at St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen and McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. She spent her last years in prayer at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen.

Survivors include her two sisters, Sarah Bauer of Elkton and Margaret Jorgensen of Dell Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and three sisters.

Casketbearers will be the Knights of Columbus.

Sylvester Lesniak

Webster -- The funeral for Sylvester Lesniak, 88, of Webster and formerly of the Waubay-Grenville area, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Christ The King Catholic Church in Webster. The Rev. John Garvey will officiate.

Burial will be in the Waubay Catholic cemetery under the direction of Fiksdal Funeral Service of Webster.

Visitation will be prior to the service today at the church.

He died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at Lake Area Hospital in Webster.

Sylvester Lesniak was born Jan. 21, 1912, to Frank and Augusta (Gruba) Lesniak on a farm near Grenville. He attended country school near his home. He worked on the family farm.

He married Esther Anderson, and they made their home in the Grenville-Waubay area. In the early 1960s, he lived in the Pierre, Fort Pierre and the Hayes area, where he was employed as a ranch hand until his retirement. In 1996, he moved to Bethesda Home in Webster.

Survivors include six children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and five sisters.

Casketbearers will be Randy Gaikowski, Leon Gaikowski, Don Gaikowski, Jack Gaikowski, Matt Reese and Tim Reese.

Leroy Week

Sisseton -- The funeral for Theodore Leroy Week, 72, of Sisseton will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Grace Lutheran Church in Sisseton. The Rev. Thomas Kuusisto will officiate.

Burial will be in the Sisseton cemetery under the direction of Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton.

Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service today at the church.

He died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, at Merit Care Hospital in Fargo, N.D.

Theodore Leroy Week was born Sept. 11, 1927, to Christ and Ovedia Week at the family homestead in Long Hollow Township west of Sisseton. He attended Long Hollow No. 2 Rural School. After his education, he helped his parents on the family farm.

He married Myra Tasa on March 10, 1949, at the Zoar Lutheran parsonage. They farmed on the family homestead until 1990, when he was employed by the Tekakwitha Nursing Center in Sisseton. He worked in the maintenance department there until April.

He enjoyed hunting, trapping, sports, traveling, American history and playing with the family dogs. He took pride in his livestock. He was known for his kindness.

Survivors include his wife of Sisseton; three sons, Tom (Colette) Week of Yankton, Terry Week of Beach, N.D., and Chris (Robin) Week of Torrance, Calif.; one daughter, Candace Anderson of Sisseton; three sisters, Agnes Larson of Maine, Esther Erickson of Sisseton and Olga Palm of Anacortes, Wash.; one brother, Clayton Week of Sisseton; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Casketbearers will be Cody Langager, Cole Anderson, Jody Weidenbach, Miron Johnson, Larry Likness and Mark Tasa.

Mary Prentice

Wessington -- Mary Prentice, 77, of Wessington died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the First Presbyterian Church in Wessington. The Rev. Allen Sager will officiate.

Burial will be in the Wessington cemetery with Welter Funeral Home in Huron in charge of arrangements.

Mary Elizabeth Zerfoss was born Dec. 30, 1922, to Donley and Nellie (Eads) Zerfoss in Wahkon, Minn.

She married Lowell Prentice on May 9, 1943, in Wolsey. They lived in Oregon, Georgia, Colorado and Arizona while he was in the U.S. Army. They later farmed in the Wessington area and moved into Wessington in 1978.

Survivors include her husband of Wessington; two daughters, Deanna (Norg) Sanderson of Aberdeen and Glenda (Doug) DeVore of Leavenworth, Wash.; one son, Delton (Susan) Prentice of Wessington; one sister, Joyce Wells of Tenino, Wash.; one brother, Myron Zerfoss of Monroe, Wash.; seven grandchildren; one stepgranddaughter; and one great-grandson.

Mary Theresa Henn

Linton, N.D. -- The funeral for Mary Theresa Henn, 91, of Linton will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Linton. The Rev. Bruce Krebs will officiate.

Burial will be in the church cemetery with Myers Funeral Home in Linton in charge of arrangements.

A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

She died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, N.D.

Mary Theresa Wagner was born March 26, 1909, to Thomas and Nathalia (Brickner) Wagner on a farm in the Krassna, N.D., area southwest of Strasburg, N.D. She attended a rural school and graduated as valedictorian from Strasburg High School in 1929. She received her teaching certificate from Valley City (N.D.) State College. She taught in Lake District and the Strasburg Elementary School System.

She married Raymond J. Henn on Nov. 24, 1932, in Strasburg. They made their home in Linton.

She was a member of Christian Mothers, the Forresters and was a past member of the Linton Hospital Board and the hospital auxiliary.

She was known for her ability as a seamstress and for her cooking. Her hobbies included needlework and playing cards.

Survivors include her husband of Linton; one son, Thomas (Judy) Henn of Bismarck; three daughters, Beverly (David) O'Brien of Bismarck, Rita (Edwin) Hunting of Norwalk, Conn., and Judy (Bruce) Grunefelder of Kintyre, N.D.; seven grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and eight sisters.

Casketbearers will be Jon Grunefelder, James Grunefelder, Mary Beth Gross, Nicholas Gross, Tim Gross and Terri Ann Walters.

Anna Marie Nitschke Ulmer

Ellendale, N.D. -- The funeral for Anna Marie Nitschke Ulmer, 73, of Ellendale will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley, N.D. The Rev. Jeff Giles will officiate.

Burial will be in the church cemetery. Carlsen-Holte Funeral Home of Ellendale is in charge of arrangements.

A prayer service will be at 7 tonight at the funeral home. The Rev. Dennis O'Neill will officiate.

Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home in Ellendale and from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Carlsen Funeral Home in Ashley. There will also be visitation for one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church in Ellendale.

She died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at Prince of Peace Care Center in Ellendale.

Anna Marie Bendewald was born May 9, 1927, to John G. and Marie (Strobel) Bendewald northeast of Ashley. She grew up there and attended country school. She helped on the family farm.

She married Alvin Nitschke on Oct. 24, 1948, in rural Ashley. They made their home on a Bendewald farm northeast of Ashley in Iowa Township. They raised small grains and livestock. He died Jan. 12, 1976. She continued to live on the farm until 1979, when she moved into Ashley.

She married Ray Ulmer on Dec. 7, 1985, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley. They made their home in Ellendale. She entered the Prince of Peace Care Center two years prior to her death.

She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Ellendale and the Zion Lutheran Church Women. She was a member of the Ellendale Senior Citizens and a past member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley and the Zion Lutheran Church Women.

She enjoyed farming and livestock and took pride in the appearance of her farm. She and her first husband's farm was selected as the 1972 Soil Conservation Farm of the Year in McIntosh County. She had a large garden on the farm and she liked cooking for family and friends. She also enjoyed crocheting and quilting.

Survivors include her husband of Ellendale; and one stepdaughter, Shanda (Curt) Cossette of West Fargo, N.D.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, one brother and one sister in infancy.

Casketbearers will be Curtis Bendewald and Herbert Nitschke, both of Ashley; John Roehrich and Anthony Roehrich, both of Aberdeen; Aaron Roehrich of Sioux Falls; and Curt Cossette of West Fargo.
