Agnes Margaret Tisher

Britton -- The funeral for Agnes Margaret Tisher, 90, of Britton will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church in Britton. The Rev. Mary Hansen will officiate.

Burial will be in the Britton cemetery under the direction of Price Funeral Chapel of Britton.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 tonight at the funeral chapel and for one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.

She died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at the Marshall County Health Care Center in Britton.

Agnes Margaret Rosten was born Nov. 8, 1909, to Magnus ÒMikeÓ and Bertha (Nelson) Rosten in Highmore. She moved with her family to the Brampton, N.D., area. She attended Newark High School for three years and graduated from Britton High School in 1927. She furthered her education at Augustana College, where she earned her teacher's certificate. She taught school at various rural Marshall County schools.

She married Lewis H. Tisher on June 22, 1937, in Sioux Falls. They moved to California, where they lived for five years. At that time, they returned to the Britton area, where they were engaged in farming. They later bought their own farm and continued to farm until retiring in 1971. They lived in the rural Britton area since then. She helped to raise her nephew, Jim Tisher.

She was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Britton, where she was active in one of the circles of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. She belonged to a Marshall County extension club for several years. She and her husband had belonged to a whist and bridge club with other Stena Township residents.

She enjoyed reading, doing needlework, sewing and cooking large meals, including lefse.

Survivors include her husband of Britton; three sons, Wendall (Sharon) Tisher of Pierre, Gary (Joan) Tisher of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Wayne (Kelly) Tisher of Britton; one sister, Eunice Quamen of Sioux Falls; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and an infant sister.

Casketbearers will be Patrick Tisher, Robert Tisher, Jeffrey Tisher, Spencer Tisher, Travis Tisher and Kirk Tisher.

Angeline "Angie" Loretta Silseth

Havana, N.D. -- The Mass of Christian burial for Angeline "Angie" Loretta Silseth, 76, of Havana will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Forman, N.D. The Rev. Francis Q. Arthur will officiate.

Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery under the direction of Price Funeral Chapel of Forman.

There will be a vigil service at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel and from 6 p.m. until the conclusion of the vigil service at the church. There will also be visitation for one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.

She died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at her home.

Angeline Loretta Slaby was born June 4, 1924, to Robert "Rob" and Matilda "Mattie" (Waldera) Slaby in Cayuga, N.D. She attended grade school in Cayuga and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Fargo, N.D., in 1941.

She married Orvis Silseth on May 14, 1943, in Fargo. They farmed near Havana until 1945 and then lived in Cayuga for three years. They returned to farming northeast of Havana in 1949 and had been farming since that time.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Forman and had been active in the Christian Mothers organization. She was a volunteer for any community functions and served on the election board for many years.

She enjoyed sewing, making quilts, cooking and dancing.

Survivors include her husband of Havana; three sons, Duane (Pam) Silseth of Fargo, Bob (Linda) Silseth of Dent, Minn., and Curt (Judy) Silseth of Havana; two daughters, Pat (Steve) Saewert of Omaha, Neb., and Paulette (Kim) Paulson of Devils Lake, N.D.; two brothers, Ernest Slaby of Hesperia, Calif., and Cyril Slaby of Havre, Mont.; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one great-granddaughter.

Casketbearers will be Jason Silseth, Chad Silseth, J.J. Silseth, Andy Askew, Nick Askew, Corey Saewert, Eric Saewert and Alex Paulson.

Edward C. Hoffman

Leola -- The funeral for Edward C. Hoffman, 90, of Leola will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Lutheran Church in Leola. The Rev. Michael Jacobson will officiate.

Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Sunset Memorial Gardens at Aberdeen. Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.

He died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.

Edward C. Hoffman was born Oct. 3, 1909, to Christoph and Christina (Schumacher) Hoffmann at Long Lake. He was raised and educated there.

He married Hertha Fauth on Nov. 14, 1937, at Long Lake. They farmed in the Long Lake and Leola areas until 1968, when they moved into Leola. She died Oct. 5, 1999.

He was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church.

He enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include one son, Gary (Betty Lou) Hoffman of Long Lake; one daughter, Shirlene (Bernard) Shannon of Lodi, Calif.; one brother, August Hoffman of Eureka; four sisters, Lydia Fischer, Amelia Fauth and Leah Gehring, all of Leola, and Rose Gienger of Aberdeen; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, five brothers and two sisters.

Casketbearers will be Donald Hoffman, Myron Fauth, Randy Fauth, Lawrence Hoffman, Marvin Hoffman and Deuwayne Hoffman.

Harvey Willis Helgerson

Aberdeen -- Memorial services for Harvey Willis Helgerson, 79, of 13280 392nd Ave. will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Messiah Lutheran Church in Hoffman, Minn.

Inurment of cremains will be in the Cyrus (Minn.) Lutheran cemetery. Spitzer-Osthus Funeral Home, 320 Sixth Ave. S.E., is in charge of arrangements.

He died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, at his home.

Harvey Willis Helgerson was born Feb. 25, 1921, to Peter and Clara (Rustad) Helgerson in Cyrus. He attended school in Cyrus. After school he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps for one year. He then entered the U.S. Army Air Corps on Aug. 6, 1942. He was stationed in India and the island of Tinian. He was honorably discharged Nov. 15, 1945.

He married Laverne Rosby in 1948 in Cyrus. They made their home in Cyrus until 1956, when they moved to Hoffman, Minn., where he worked at the creamery as a buttermaker. He retired in 1983. In October 1999, he moved to Aberdeen, where he lived with his son.

He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and American Legion Post No. 393 in Hoffman and was a past Boy Scout master.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trips to Canada.

Survivors include two sons, Philip Helgerson and Lonnie (Linette) Helgerson, both of Aberdeen; one sister, Edna Bratton of Morris, Minn.; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter and one brother.

Harold Gottlieb Goetz

Java -- The funeral for Harold G. Goetz, 78, of Java will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Java. The Rev. Grace Torrance will officiate.

Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Miller Funeral Home of Bowdle.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home in Bowdle and for one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church in Java.

He died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, 2 1/2 miles northeast of Java.

Harold Gottlieb Goetz was born July 29, 1922, to Charlie and Magdelena (Horst) Goetz at his parents' homestead 10 miles northeast of Java. He attended Hartman School in Adams Township through the eighth grade. Following his schooling, he worked as a mechanic in Java for the Spiry and Sons Ford Garage during the winter months. During the planting and harvesting seasons he helped on his father's homestead. He received a family deferment from the service because his two older brothers were called to duty.

He married Irene M. Hirsch on June 15, 1947, in Java. They settled on their farm 1 1/2 miles east of Java. He was in partnership with his son, Jerry, in farming and in the Goetz Repair mechanic shop in Java. She died June 15, 1987. He lived the remainder of his life on the farm.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Java, where he served on the church council and finance committee. He was a board member for the Java Cafe, a member of the Java Kuchen Committee and was active in the organization of the Java Diamond Jubilee and the Java Centennial celebrations. He contributed to many community benefits by providing meat that he raised and processed.

He was an avid hunter and enjoyed his 1918 Model T truck and Cockshutt tractor, which he took to local parades.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry G. Goetz of Java and Dale M. (Cynthia) Goetz of Dakota City, Neb.; three brothers, Oscar Goetz of the Bowdle Nursing Home, Fred Goetz of Dallas and Calvin Goetz of Selby; two sisters, Irene Oster and Erna Schmierer, both of Aberdeen; two grandsons; and a special friend, Gloria Zimmerman of Java.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, one grandson, two brothers and one sister.

Casketbearers will be Courtney Goetz of Boulder, Colo.; Konrad Goetz of Dakota City; Roger Hirsch, Michael Hirsch, Toby Biel and Scott Rau, all of Java; Steve Goetz of Miles City, Mont.; and Robert Goetz of Sioux Falls.

Chico Dean Red Legs

Wakpala -- The funeral for Chico Dean Red Legs, 18, of Wakpala will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Community Center in Little Eagle. The Rev. Leslie Bobtail Bear and the Rev. Norman Blue Coat will officiate.

Burial will be in the Messiah Church cemetery on Friday in Little Eagle with Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge in charge of arrangements.

An all-night wake service will start at 6 p.m. Friday at the community center.

He died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, in Mobridge.

Chico Dean Red Legs was born Oct. 13, 1981, to Donavon and Patricia (Grindstone) Red Legs in Fort Yates, N.D. During his life he lived with his foster parent Melinda Red Legs and then with Morris and Margaret Yellow from 1997 until 1999, near Wakpala. He attended school in Wakpala, Mobridge and at the St. Joe Indian School in Chamberlain.

He was known for his swimming and was a lifeguard in Chamberlain. He played basketball and football and enjoyed being in the country.

Survivors include his parents of McLaughlin; his foster parents, the Yellows of Wakpala; two brothers, Jonathan Red Legs and Patrick Red Legs, both of McLaughlin; five sisters, Verinda Red Legs of Chamberlain and Latoya Red Legs, Melissa Red Legs, Mandy Red Legs and Kelsey Red Legs, all of McLaughlin; two half-brothers, Clyde Weasel of Bullhead, and Keith Grindstone of Wisconsin; one half-sister, Justine Grindstone of McLaughlin; one stepbrother, Donavon Red Legs Jr. of McLaughlin; four foster brothers, Morris Yellow Jr. and Morgan Yellow, both of Rapid City, and Morey Yellow and John Feather, both of Wakpala; three foster sisters, Marlo Thompson and Tina Cadotte, both of Rapid City, and Mary Ouellette of McLaughlin; his maternal grandmother, Lucille Yellow Earrings of Little Eagle; his maternal grandfather, Ralph Conley of Eagle Butte; and his paternal grandmother, Donna Red Legs of McLaughlin.

Casketbearers will be Morey Yellow, John Flying Horse Jr., Trampus Tiger, Jared Red Legs, Jesse Demarris, Jerome Yellow Earrings, Neil Thompson and Michael Wald Jr.

Kenneth "Knute" C. Knudson

Cooperstown, N.D. -- Kenneth "Knute" C. Knudson, 39, of Cooperstown died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Trinity Lutheran Church, Cooperstown. The Rev. Ray Branstiter and the Rev. James Cheney will officiate.

Burial will be in the family cemetery near Cooperstown with Stanley-Iverson Funeral Home in McVille, N.D., in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today and for one hour prior to the service Friday, all at the church in Cooperstown.

Kenneth C. Knudson was born Aug. 20, 1961, to Vernon and Lois (Hendrickson) Knudson in Minneapolis.

He married Mary Jo Pauley of Aberdeen on Jan. 28, 1993. They worked together and lived in the Cooperstown area until the time of his death.

Survivors include his wife of Cooperstown; three sons, Klint Knudson at home, and Matthew Habeck and Jared Habeck, both of Aberdeen; one daughter, Jessica Habeck of Denver; his parents of Cooperstown; one brother, John Knudson of Glyndon, Minn.; and one sister, Kristen Stoick of Fargo.

Olive S. Mahlen

Watertown -- Olive S. Mahlen, 85, of Watertown and formerly of Pierpont and Webster, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, in a local care center.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Grace Lutheran Church Chapel in Watertown. The Rev. Bill Hamill will officiate.

Burial will be in the Fron Lutheran cemetery in Roslyn with Wight and Fox Funeral Chapel in Watertown in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.

Olive S. Anderson was born Oct. 6, 1914, to August and Clara (Miklebost) Anderson in Pierpont. She attended school in Pierpont and graduated from Pierpont High School in 1932. After graduation, she worked in the school library on book binding and repair of library books. She also took night classes offered by the government in 1932 and 1933 on typing and short hand.

On Sept. 3, 1936, she married Ernest E. Mahlen in Minneapolis. In 1957, the couple moved to Webster. She worked at the Day County Hospital office and was chosen by the Board of Doctors to be medical records librarian clerk of insurance and Medicare. They moved to Watertown in 1967, and she was hired by Memorial Hospital as admissions clerk in the office. Later she joined Fedt Clinic as office manager and insurance clerk for several years. He died April 30, 1989.

She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, Altar Guild and Church Circle.

Survivors include three daughters, Jean (Roger) Nygaard of Grand Island, Neb., Arlene (Bob) Helwig of Redwood Falls, Minn., and Marilyn (Kerry) Stevens of Mahtomedi, Minn.; two sons, Jerald (Karan) Mahlen of Leesville, La., and Lee Mahlen of Sioux Falls; one sister, Jean Doll of Howard Lake, Minn.; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and 10 step great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and 11 sisters and brothers.

Casketbearers will be Jewel Brekke, Terry Brekke, Arthur Lapham, Tim Stevens, Steven Nygaard and Chester Mahlen.
