Beri Swanson

Mobridge -- The funeral for Beri Swanson, 38, of Mobridge will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mobridge. The Rev. Dennis Fonkert will officiate.

Burial will be in the Greenwood cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home, Mobridge.

There will be a prayer service at 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Closed-casket visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.

He died of natural causes Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, N.D.

Beri Jon Swanson was born Jan. 25, 1962, to Bernole Sr. and Betty (Ritter) Swanson in Mobridge. He attended grade school in Mobridge and graduated from Glenham High School in 1980. While in high school, he worked at the Coca-Cola plant and helped in the kitchen at the Eagles in Mobridge. After graduation, he moved to Gillette, Wyo., and worked at an oil field construction company. From 1980 to 1985, he worked construction -- building a major water supply line and for Jones Construction, among others. In 1986, he moved to Bismarck and drove mail truck for his uncle. In 1987, he returned to Mobridge, where he farmed with his parents and worked at the Pollock Cheese Plant, Mobridge City Street Department and South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks. In September 1997, he received a kidney from his sister. Since this time, he was not able to work. The last few months he had lived with his mother in Mobridge.

He enjoyed fishing with his friends, Christmas and other people's birthdays. He was known for not complaining about his illness, diabetes.

Survivors include his mother of Mobridge; one brother, Bernie Swanson of Mobridge; and one sister, Bonita May of Mobridge.

He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.

Casketbearers will be Kelly Peterson, Mark Maas, Richard Goldade, Tom Kraft, Jeff Torvell, Jeff Guthmiller and Warren Howlette.

Nancy K. Schmitt

Aberdeen -- Mass of Christian burial for Nancy K. Schmitt, 41, of 415 N. Lloyd St. will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 215 N. Arch St. The Rev. Gregory Tschakert will officiate.

Burial of cremains will be in St. Mary's Catholic cemetery under the direction of Schriver's Memorial Mortuary, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W.

She died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at the Aberdeen Living Center.

Nancy K. Schaeffer was born March 24, 1959, to Andrew J. and Rose K. (Daeschel) Schaeffer in Aberdeen. She attended St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1977. She was employed at Cardinal Tool Inc.

She married Michael Schmitt on Oct. 3, 1981, in Aberdeen. They made Aberdeen their home and she was employed at Animal Health Clinic. She then attended Presentation College for two years. Due to ill health from multiple sclerosis, she remained home with her family. She had resided at the Aberdeen Living Center for the past two years.

Survivors include her husband of Aberdeen; two sons, Jeremy Schmitt and Ethan Schmitt, both at home; and one sister, Andrea Schmaltz of Huron.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Eva Marie Imsland

Pierre -- Eva Marie Imsland, 90, of Pierre died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, at Beverly Healthcare in Pierre.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church in Pierre.

Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. MDT Saturday in Mountain View cemetery in Rapid City under the direction of Feigum Funeral Home of Pierre.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Eva Marie Mehlberg was born Jan. 24, 1910, in Quincy, Wash. As a child, she moved with her parents to a farm north of Raymond in 1912. She received her education at Ashton Consolidated School and graduated from Ashton High School. She continued her college education at Northern Normal and Industrial School and Presentation Nursing School, both in Aberdeen.

She married Torjus L. Imsland of Crandall on Oct. 8, 1928. They farmed east of Faith and in 1929 moved closer to Faith to be closer to his job at Bagley Elevator. They were transferred to Glenham for a year and returned to Faith in 1936, when he was appointed manager of the Bagley Elevator. She worked by his side as a bookkeeper. In 1951, he accepted a job in Rapid City at the First National Bank. She worked at a fabric store and also at JC Penney. In 1959, they built a home in the Black Hills near Sheridan Lake. They lived there until he died. She moved from Rapid City to Parkwood Apartments in Pierre in 1996 to be near her family.

She was a founding member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rapid City and a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pierre. She was a former member of the Minneluzahn Senior Citizens in Rapid City.

Survivors include one son, Dale H. Imsland of San Mateo, Calif.; two daughters, Carol (Ken) J. Kamppi of Boise, Idaho, and Gloria (Vernon) A. Bump of Pierre; one sister, Elsie Scally of Suisun, Calif.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, two brothers and one great-grandson.

Memorials may be made to the Faith Lutheran Church Endowment Fund, 714 N. Grand Ave., Pierre, S.D. 57501.

Albert J. Eilers

Aberdeen -- Mass of Christian burial for Albert J. Eilers, 83, of 38290 133rd St. will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 409 Third Ave. S.E. The Rev. Christopher Hughes will officiate.

Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic cemetery in Aberdeen under the direction of Schriver's Memorial Mortuary, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W.

There will be a liturgical wake service at 7 tonight at the mortuary.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, all at the mortuary.

He died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at his home.

Albert J. Eilers was born Feb. 26, 1917, to Barney and Theresa (Rager) Eilers at Montague, Mich., where he gerw up, attended school, and graduated from Montague High School at age 15. He helped on the family farm and later worked for Norge Refrigerator Factory in Muskegon Heights, Mich. He also managed the family Fox Ranch at the same time until moving to Aberdeen.

He married Hazel Wilson on Sept. 20, 1941, at Aberdeen. They bought the W.J. Tiffany Farm west of Aberdeen. He dairy-farmed until 1962, and then had back grounding feeder cattle. In 1981, he sold the farming business to his son Tom. He was still working on the family farm with his son at the time of his death.

He served as president and secretary of the Aberdeen Milk Producers Association, was director of the Northeast South Dakota Milk Producers Association, served on the Aberdeen Township School Board, served on the Brown County Planning Board for 27 years and served as treasurer for the Aberdeen Township board. He was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Aberdeen Knights of Columbus.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling. He was known as a farmer who cared for the land.

Survivors include his wife of Aberdeen; three sons, Douglas (Anita) Eilers of Mina, Thomas (Peggy) Eilers of Aberdeen, and Robert (Miryam) Eilers of Shasta Lake, Calif.; five daughters, Mary Lea (Kenneth) Carlson of Kerrville, Texas, Theresa Eilers of Watertown, Elaine (Walter) Seymour of San Diego, Marcia (Jeffrey) Sveen of Aberdeen, and Carol (Bruce) Jones of Westport; one brother, Robert Eilers of Muskegon, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, nine brothers and three sisters.

Casketbearers will be Arthur Dahme, Hugh Dahme, Elmer Diedtrich, Bob Gauer, Steve Wagenaar and Robert Yoder.

Memorials may be made to North Plains Hospice, 305 S. State St., Aberdeen, S.D. 57401.

Melvin E. Delzer

Spearfish -- Melvin E. Delzer, 73, of Spearfish and formerly of Hague, N.D., and Selby, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at Lookout Memorial Hospital in Spearfish.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Spearfish. The Rev. Kip Roozen will officiate.

Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Spearfish, with military honors by the American Legion Post No. 164 and Queen City Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5860 Honor Guard of Spearfish. Carlsen-Jolley Funeral Home of Spearfish is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. There will also be visitation for one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.

Melvin E. Delzer was born March 15, 1927, in Hague. He grew up in Selby, where he graduated from high school in 1945 and immediately enlisted in the Navy. He served on the USS Horner CV-12 in the Pacific through the end of World War II. He received an honnorable discharge.

He married Gloria Cheskey on Aug. 29, 1947, and they lived in Selby. They owned the DeLux Cafe in Selby. In 1950, he founded Delzer Excavating, later Delzer Construction Company. The company specialized in state and federal highway construction projects throughout North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming. In 1970, the company and family moved to Rapid City. By the late 1970s, his business holdings included Aggregates Gravel & Paving, Centennial Quarry, Pepper Oil & Gas, Fort Union Coal Mine, Golden Plains Feedlot and a 75, 000-acre farming and ranching operation. In 1980, they moved to Spearfish Valley Ranch north of Spearfish. In 1985, he had sold most of Delzer Construction's assets. Other operations were gradually divested and by the late 1980s, he had settled into semi-retirement. He was actively involved in the daily farming and ranching operations until the time of his death.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Roger (Sharon) Delzer, Ross (Barb) Delzer, Charles (Nicole) Delzer and Bernard Delzer; one sister, Alma Preszler; one brother, Harvey Delzer; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter and one granddaughter.

Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, c/o The Delzer Family, P.O. Box 1045, Spearfish, S.D. 57783.

William H. 'Bill' Campton

Aberdeen -- The funeral for William H. "Bill" Campton, 66, of 306 N. Boyd St. will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Spitzer-Osthus Funeral Home, 320 Sixth Ave. S.E. The Rev. Gary Wileman and the Rev. Harold E. Salem will officiate.

Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park in Aberdeen, with military honors by the Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post No. 24.

There will be a prayer service at 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday, all at the funeral home.

He died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

William Harry Campton was born Dec. 12, 1933, to James and Stella (Maynard) Campton in Aberdeen. He attended country school in Lincoln Township. He worked on the family farm until 1955, when he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged in 1957.

He married Cathryn Heier on Sept. 3, 1960, at Aberdeen. They made their home in Aberdeen, where he farmed and worked for Sinclair Gas Station. In 1982, he began working for K.O. Lee Company, retiring in 1998. He was the top of his class when receiving his General Education Diploma in 1986.

He attended the Assembly of God church in Aberdeen and was a past member of the Elks Lodge.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family.

Survivors include his wife of Aberdeen; two sons, Thomas (Brenda) Campton of Aberdeen, and Doug (Kim) Monzat of Clear Lake; one daughter, Jackie Lyn (Perry) Nibbelink of Fort Bragg, N.C.; one brother, L.L. "Bud" Campton of Aberdeen; one sister, Mary Lou Jerde of Pembina, N.D.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Casketbearers will be Dan Campton, Ron Campton, Ron Hiepler, Don Sauer, Dave Heier, Larry Rabine, Dean Wagner and Bob Oberfoell.

Troy David Scott

Marshall, Minn. -- The funeral for Troy David Scott, 9 months, of Marshall will be at 2 p.m. today at First Lutheran Church in Marshall. The Rev. Bob Dahl will officiate.

Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery in Watertown under the direction of Hamilton-Birk Funeral Home of Marshall.

He died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at the Weiner Memorial Medical Center in Marshall due to complications of a lingering illness.

Troy David Scott was born Oct. 31, 1999, to Stuart D. and Linda K. (Bloom) Scott in Marshall.

Survivors include his parents of Marshall; one sister, Abigail Scott of Marshall; two half brothers, Jesse Scott and Steven Scott of Scottsdale, Ariz.; his maternal grandfather, Lavern Bloom of Watertown; his paternal grandparents, Norm and Sheri Scott of Aberdeen; and his paternal great-grandmother, Rose Wudel of Aberdeen.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother.

Casketbearers will be Larry Bloom and Greg Scott.

Dyle Keith LeBeau

Eagle Butte -- The funeral for Dyle Keith LeBeau, 69, of Eagle Butte will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the HV Johnston Cultural Center in Eagle Butte. The Rev. Moore and Sister Addie Morris will officiate.

Burial will be in the Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis under the direction of Luce Funeral Home of Eagle Butte.

A wake service will be at 7 tonight at the cultural center.

He died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at the Indian Health Service Hospital in Eagle Butte.

Dyle LeBeau was born April 23, 1931, to Phillip and Alma LeBeau at the Old Cheyenne Agency. He attended Old Agency Boarding School and lived his early life on the Cheyenne River Reservation. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Aug. 19, 1949, and was stationed at Camp McCoy, Wis. He also fought in the Korean War and was honorably discharged Oct. 27, 1952. He was also in the National Guard. He worked in Chicago as a welder, and graduated from welding school. His life trade was as a welder at Phillip.

He married Iris Baumert.

He later married Margaret DuPris. He moved back to the Cheyenne River Reservation, where he resided at the Eagle Butte Manor close to his mother and his aunt.

He received numerous medals from the Army, including the Association of Minemen Japan Medal, Korean Service Medal with three bronze stars, the United Nations Service Medal, the MET Unit Command Medal, and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. He was also a radio operator in the Army. He received a certificate of honor from the governor of South Dakota for resisting an armed aggressor on June 25, 1950, during the Korean War.

He was known for being soft-spoken and a hard worker.

Survivors include two daughters, Gayle LeBeau Holtz and Dana LeBeau O'Connel; his mother, Alma LeBlanc; four brothers, Phillip ÒHankÓ LeBeau, Fain LeBeau, Corbin LeBeau Sr. and Robert Pretty Boy; six sisters, Lillian LeBeau Chase, LaVera LeBeau Levell, Francine LeBeau Iron Wing, Colette LeBeau Iron Hawk, Karen LeBeau Garreaux and Wendy LeBeau; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, stepfather and three brothers.

Casketbearers will be Vincent Charles, Fain LeBeau, Vincent DuPris, Gerald Red Leaf, Corbin LeBeau Sr. and Harry Laundreaux.

Lois Rae Larson

Pinehurst, Idaho -- Lois Rae Larson, 73, of Pinehurst and formerly of Groton, died Sunday, July 16, 2000, at Shoshone Medical Center in Kellogg, Idaho.

A memorial service was July 21 at the Shoshone Funeral Service Kellogg Chapel in Kellogg. Carl Hojem officiated.

Lois Amsden was born Feb. 20, 1927, to George and Bertha (Totzke) Amsden in Groton. She graduated from Groton High School in 1945. She moved to Idaho in October 1946.

She married Inar Larson on Oct. 1, 1946, in Superior, Mont.

Survivors include her husband of Pinehurst; two sons, Bill (Shirley) Larson of Pocatello, Idaho, and Einar (Diane) Larson of Almira, Wash.; one daughter, Ruthann (Mark) Rubey of Ogden, Utah; one brother, George Amsden Jr. of Kennewick, Wash.; four sisters, Evelyn Dutt of Tolstoy, Gayle Carmine of Bellevue, Neb., and Carol Morvee and Georgia Riehle, both of Douglas, Wyo.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
