Emma Bossert
Selby -- The funeral for Emma Bossert, 87, of Selby will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Selby United Church of Christ. The Rev. Del Neumeister will officiate.
Burial will be in Selby Memorial Gardens under the direction of Miller Funeral Home of Bowdle.
There will be a public prayer service at 8 tonight at the church in Selby.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at the church in Selby.
She died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at the Mobridge Regional Hospital.
Emma Maier was born Oct. 16, 1912, to Johannes and Louisa (Ipert) Maier on a farm southeast of Mound City. She attended country school near the farm until sixth grade, when she moved with her family to Selby on Nov. 12, 1924. In Selby, she finished grade school and went on to high school, where she was an honor student.
She married
Edward Bossert on Feb. 4, 1929, in Selby. They lived in Selby their entire married
life. At various times, she worked at Brenneise Dry Cleaners, the A&F; Cafe and for the Selby School Lunch Program for 14 years. He died Aug. 3, 1989. She continued to make Selby her home and since May 26, 1988, had resided at the Selby Good Samaritan Center.
She was an active church member, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school and Bible school and was a charter member of the Congregational Ladies' Aid (now the U.C.C. Women's Fellowship), where she held all offices at one time or another. She was a charter member of the Town and Country Extension Club and the Selby Senior Citizens Organization. She also served on city election for many years.
She enjoyed crocheting, embroidering and reading.
Survivors include one son, Curt (Sharon) Bossert of Aberdeen; two daughters, Gladys Reynolds of Bismarck, N.D., and Phyllis (Milton) Stiegelmeier of Selby; one sister, Louise Miller of the Selby Good Samaritan Center; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, eight half brothers and eight half sisters.
Casketbearers will be her grandchildren.
Edith V. Benfit
Aberdeen -- The funeral for Edith V. Benfit, 79, of 38377 Richmond Heights Drive, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W. Deacon J.P. Morgan will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen.
There will be a liturgical wake service at 7 tonight at the mortuary.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. Friday until the time of the service, all at the mortuary.
She died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at ManorCare Health Services.
Edith V. Fix was born Feb. 10, 1921, to Andrew and Margaret (Hopfinger) Fix on the family farm near Onaka. She attended Onaka School and worked on the family farm.
She married
Anthony Goebel in Onaka. They farmed in the Onaka area for several years and then moved to Aberdeen. They worked at Goebel Welding, and she was a bookkeeper. He died in 1954.
She married
Casper ÒCapÓ F. Benfit in 1966 at Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. They made their home in Aberdeen, where she was the bookkeeper for Benfit Construction.
She enjoyed reading, crocheting, fishing, traveling and dogs.
Survivors include one daughter, Marilyn Hase of Aberdeen; one son, Owen Goebel of Yankton; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her second husband, four brothers and three sisters.
Casketbearers will be Gene Fix, Jeff Fix, Jim Lacher, Jon Kendall, Adam Grismer and Brian Wilson.
Vera L. Becker
Redfield -- The funeral for Vera L. Becker, 83, of Redfield will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Wesleyan Church in Redfield. The Rev. Steve Wilkins and the Rev. Rod Griffin will officiate.
Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery in Redfield under the direction of Thelen Funeral Home, Redfield.
There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
She died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield.
Vera Schmidt was born April 17, 1917, to Charles and Flora (Stevens) Schmidt at Orient. She grew up in the Orient area and attended school in Redfield.
She married
Harold Becker on Aug. 18, 1935, at Redfield. She worked at Harry's Egg Station and South Dakota Developmental Center in Redfield. He died in 1991.
She was a member of Westside Extension Club for 30 years and was a 4-H leader for many years.
She enjoyed crafts, bingo and playing cards, and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan.
Survivors include two daughters, Darlene (Ken) Kunze of Sweet Home, Ore., and Dixie (Steve) Hickens of Rapid City; one son, Duane Becker of Rapid City; three sisters, Helen Becker of Redfield, Angeline McCone of Long Beach, Calif., and Lillian Haney of Long Beach, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, two brothers and one granddaughter.
Casketbearers will be Brad Becker, Derik Eberle, Keith Hardie, Jerry Hardie, Kenny Dawson and Rollie Amundson.
Mathew Bachman
Bowdle -- Mass of Christian burial for Mathew Bachman, 89, of Bowdle will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Bowdle. The Rev. Brian Simon and the Rev. Gary Coulter will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Augustine's Catholic Church cemetery under the direction of Miller Funeral Home of Bowdle.
There will be a wake service at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home. The Rev. Owen Klapperich Council of the Knights of Columbus will lead the rosary.
Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at the Bowdle Nursing Home.
Mathew Bachman was born Jan. 2, 1911, to Joseph and Mathilda (Wagner) Bachman near Bowdle. He attended rural school in Cottonwood Lake Township and grew up on the family farm four miles east of Bowdle.
He married
Mathilda C. Gerber June 18, 1935, in Hoven. They farmed on the Bachman family homestead four miles east of Bowdle. She died March 4, 1979. In 1981, he retired and moved into Bowdle.
He married
Frances M. (Dreis) VanWell Dec. 26, 1981, in Hoven. He worked for Basin Electric as a right-of-way agent on the Antelope Valley Project for 3 1/2 years. He also worked for Federal Crop Insurance for 9 years and was a Keltgen seed corn dealer and also made car trips for Beadle Ford and Chrysler Center of Bowdle for many years. He continued living in Bowdle and since early this year, he had resided at the Bowdle Nursing Home.
He was an active member of St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Bowdle and the Knights of Columbus. He was on the Cottonwood Lake Township Board of Supervision, the Agricultural Service Center Board and the State ASC Advisory Board. He helped organize the FEM Electric Association Inc. and served as a director for 34 years.
He spent his retirement visiting his children and grandchildren. He and his wife enjoyed making wood projects and attending local craft fairs.
Survivors include his wife of Bowdle; two sons, Delbert (Delores) Bachman of Rapid City, and Paul M. (Patty) Bachman of Cottage Grove, Minn.; two daughters, Virginia (Bert) Leidholt of Minot, N.D., and Betty (Jerry) Burke of Corcoran, Minn.; two brothers, Anton Bachman of Wauwatosa, Wis., and Pius Bachman of Bowdle; one stepson, Roy (Linda) VanWell of Hoven; four stepdaughters, Jane (Bob) Hubble of Albuquerque, N.M., Jean (Lyle) Hauger of Irene, MaryAnn (Bob) Coulter of Lincoln, Neb., and Joan (Fred) DeRouchey of Pukwana; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 10 stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, one son, five sisters (three in infancy) and four brothers.
Casketbearers will be Dale Bachman of Hoven, Gary Bachman of Bowdle, Denis Bachman of Mobridge, Don Bachman of Aberdeen, Brian Coulter of Armstrong, Iowa, and Jon DeRouchey of Joplin, Mo.
Vivian E. Wiederich
Roscoe -- The funeral for Vivian E. Wiederich, 71, of Roscoe will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Roscoe. The Rev. Winfried Schroeder will officiate.
Burial will be in Morningside cemetery in Roscoe under the direction of Miller Funeral Home of Bowdle.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home in Bowdle and for one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church in Roscoe.
She died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, at the Beverly Healthcare Center in Ipswich.
Vivian E. Geist was born Oct. 3, 1928, to Jacob and Lydia (Knittel) Geist on her parents' farm nine miles south of Roscoe. She was raised in the area and attended grade school at Loyalton.
She married
Herbert E. Wiederich on Aug. 18, 1946, at Roscoe. They lived on farms near Roscoe until 1983, when they moved into town. She held jobs at various places over the years, including JoAnn's Apparel in Roscoe and most recently at Scherr Oil company in Roscoe. She had battled cancer since October 1999 and for the last month had been under hospice care at the Beverly Healthcare Center in Ipswich.
She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Roscoe.
She enjoyed craftwork and counted cross stitch.
Survivors include her husband of the Beverly Healthcare Center in Ipswich; one son, Allen F. (Mary Jane) Wiederich of Westport; and one sister, Irene Braun of Ipswich.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and two brothers.
Casketbearers will be Jim Braun and LeRoy Braun, both of Aberdeen, Gary Rath of Leola, Clayton Geist of Roscoe, Anthony Geist of Mitchell, and Dennis Hoilien of Lake Andes.
Marie Ripley
Pierre -- Marie Ripley, 92, of Pierre and formerly of Onida, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the United Methodist Church in Onida.
Burial will be in the Onida cemetery with Feigum Funeral Home in Pierre in charge of arrangements.
A prayer service will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
D. Marie Ripley was born Oct. 13, 1907, to Milton and Hattie Mae (Dorrel) Ripley near Okobojo in Sully County. She attended school in Sully County and graduated from Onida High School. Following high school, she attended Aberdeen Normal for one year and then transferred to Spearfish for three years. She received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education. She taught school in Sully County country schools for 41 years, retiring in 1972. She moved to Pierre in 1995.
She enjoyed making crafts, crocheting and sewing.
Survivors include two sisters, Gladys Wilcox of Pierre and Alberta "Bertie" Spicer of Longmont, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and two sisters.
Aloys Lewis Rohrich
Linton, N.D. -- Aloys Lewis Rohrich, 77, of Linton died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at the Linton Hospital.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday in St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Linton. The Rev. Bruce Krebs will officiate.
Burial will be in the church cemetery with Myers Funeral Home in Linton in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, all at the funeral home. There will also be visitation for one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.
Aloys Lewis Rohrich was born Jan. 22, 1923, to Anton and Barbara (Senger) Rohrich on a farm near Strasburg, N.D. He attended a rural school. He worked in Everett, Wash., as a boiler maker. After he returned to the Dakotas, he worked on the Garrison Dam. He also farmed east of Strasburg and did custom combining. In 1964, he moved into Linton. The last three years he spent his winters in the Strasburg Care Center and became a permanent resident in 1998.
He was a former member of the Linton Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include two half-brothers, Joe Kelsch and Alvin Kelsch, both of Linton; two stepbrothers, Tony Kelsch and Gregory Kelsch, both of Linton; one sister, Magdalena Fischer of Linton; one half sister, Loretta Burgad of Linton; and one stepsister, Alice Eberle of Eugene, Ore.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Casketbearers will be LeRoy Fischer, Gregory Kelsch Jr., Bob Hammond, Eugene Nagel, Paul Fischer and Richard Deis.
