Raymond E. Dunker

Aberdeen -- The funeral for Raymond E. Dunker, 82, of Aberdeen will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1429 N. Dakota St. The Rev. Roger Noer will officiate.

Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park under the direction of Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St.

There will be a public prayer service at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until noon Monday, all at the funeral home. There will also be visitation for one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.

He died Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital.

Raymond E. Dunker was born Jan. 24, 1918, to Edward and Eva (Carter) Dunker on the family farm east of Stratford. He attended country school in East Rondell Township and graduated from Groton High School in 1936.

He married M. Carol Larson on Oct. 14, 1945, in Warner. They bought the family farm in 1945 and farmed there until their retirement in 1983. During retirement he became an accomplished woodworker. They were married for 54 years.

He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran church, and he served on the church council and also as a member of Lutheran Brotherhood.

Survivors include his wife of Aberdeen; one son, Larry Dunker of Mankato, Minn.; two daughters, Darlyne (Bill) Johnson of Stratford, and Linda (Buzz) Anderson of Eagan, Minn.; four sisters, Hazel Sager and Inez Knickrehm, both of Groton, Evelyn Clausen of Aberdeen, and Millie Williams of Brentford; two brothers, Wallace Dunker of Aberdeen, and Dale Dunker of Groton; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Casketbearers will be Max Williams, Steven Dunker, Gerald Osterman, Lewis Borge, Jerry Shley and David Kalt.

Gwendolyn Wells

Houghton -- The funeral for Gwendolyn Wells, 80, of Houghton will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Groton. The Rev. Bill Duncan will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen with Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen, in charge of arrangements. A prayer service will be at 7 tonight at the funeral home in Aberdeen.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home in Aberdeen.

She died Saturday, March 24, 2001.

Gwendolyn Edwards was born Nov. 23, 1920, to Thomas and Vivian (Jones) Edwards. She attended Northern Normal and Industrial School. She taught in rural schools near Frederick for four years and at Frederick Public School for one year.

She married Harold Wells on Oct. 3, 1947. They settled in the rural Frederick-Houghton area, where they farmed.

She attended the Houghton and Aberdeen Wesleyan churches until joining the Houghton Christian and Missionary Alliance Church Church. She was an active member of the Houghton Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, was a member of the Sand Lake Extension Club, the Houghton Friendship Club and the Wesleyan Missionary Club.

She played piano and organ in many churches from age 15 until her eyesight failed three years ago. She also enjoyed visiting, drinking tea, traveling, cats, playing cards and making quilts. She was known for her brownies.

Survivors include her husband of Houghton; five daughters, Lila Morris and Brenda (Don) Blair, both of Aberdeen, Lola Stull of Flushing, Mich., Amy (Blake) Wells-Smith of Rockford, Ill., and Melody (Brad) Bonzer of Gayville; one son, Bryan (Ruth) Wells of Sacramento, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister in infancy.

Casketbearers will be Lee 'Tink' Sullivan, Sterling Kenny, Art Frederick, Roy Fauth, Ed Plummer and Jeff Forsting.

Hans Joens Jr.

Eagle Butte -- The funeral for Hans Joens Jr., 87, of Eagle Butte will be at 2 p.m. MDT Wednesday at All Saints Catholic Church in Eagle Butte.

Burial will be in the United Eagle Butte cemetery. Luce Funeral Home of Eagle Butte is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the service at the church.

He died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Beverly Healthcare Center in Mobridge.

Hans Henry Joens Jr. was born Feb. 17, 1914, to Hans Joens Sr. and Alvena (Schlie) Joens at Ipswich. He worked for the Civil Conservation Corps in Pierre and helped build Farm Island in 1935 and 1936. He was the last known survivor of CCC to have worked on that project.

He married Otha Marie Roy on Feb. 17, 1937, in Orofino, Idaho. He farmed and ranched in Idaho for seven years. He also drove a team and wagon school bus for two years for a country school. He then moved his family to Eagle Butte to be close to his parents. He worked for the railroad for two years, and then moved to his parents' home place on Green Grass, where he took care of their cattle and later bought them. He then bought the Lawson Brewer place and lived there for 11 years. In 1957, he bought the Carl Peterson place and lived there the remainder of his life.

He loved to go to the Nutrition Center. He also loved to dance.

Survivors include his wife of Eagle Butte; two sons, Fred Joens of Eagle Butte and Leroy Joens of Kingston, Pa.; five daughters, Dorothy Clark of Hoven, Joann (Paul) King of Scranton, Pa., Tillie Woolsey of Eagle Butte, Donna (Farrell) DeLapp of Garrison, Mont., and Connie (Ralph) Falcon of Eldorado, Ark.; one brother, Glen Joens of Eagle Butte; three sisters, Eva Womack and Dorothy Brewer, both of Eagle Butte, and Edna Strong of Spearfish; 23 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; and 17 stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, four sisters, one grandson and one great-grandson.

Casketbearers will be his nephews, Gene Webb, Melvin Webb, Kenny Jones, Les Joens, Dick Lang and Dale Brewer.

Bertha Semmler

Ipswich -- The funeral for Bertha Semmler, 89, of Ipswich will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Richland Wesleyan Church near Mina. The Rev. Ron Wickard will officiate. Burial will be in Ipswich City cemetery. Hein Funeral Home in Ipswich is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home in Ipswich and for one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church near Mina.

She died Friday, March 30, 2001, at the Beverly Healthcare Center in Ipswich.

Bertha Rosenau was born Sept. 9, 1911, to Christ and Julianna (Seitz) Rosenau in Parkston. She attended school in Parkston.

She married Arthur Semmler on April 20, 1931, at Ipswich. They farmed in the Roscoe area for a time and then moved to Parkston. In the 1960s they moved to a farm near Ipswich. He died in 1972. She continued to live in Ipswich, working as a waitress in a cafe and also cleaning for the Rural Electrification Administration office in Ipswich. In 1996 she became a resident at the Beverly Healthcare Center in Ipswich.

Survivors include one son, Clifford (Irma) Semmler of Fairfield, Calif.; one daughter, Norma Schneider of Ipswich; one sister, Olga Semmler of Miller; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother, one son, five brothers, one sister, two half brothers and 9 stepbrothers and stepsisters.

Casketbearers will be Wayne Semmler, GeorgeSemmler, Matthew Semmler, Roger Semmler, Dennis Stoebnor and Gary Renner.

Arvin G. Graff

Eureka -- The funeral for Arvin G. Graff, 65, of Eureka will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Eureka Reformed Church. The Rev. Darrell Kingswood will officiate.

Burial will be in the Eureka City cemetery with Straub's Funeral Home in Eureka in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. today and Tuesday at the funeral home, and for one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.

He died of natural causes Friday, March 30, 2001, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.

Arvin G. Graff was born March 19, 1936, to Friedrich and Pauline (Wagner) Graff in rural McPherson County. He lived on a farm 18 miles southeast of Eureka. He had lived in Eureka since 1978. He worked as a farm laborer.

He was a member of Eureka Reformed Church.

He enjoyed fishing, listening to German music and reading.

Survivors include his father of Eureka; four sisters, Donna Kappes of Long Lake, Mildred Suchomel and Arlys Grismer, both of Aberdeen, and Emilie Heupel of Venturia, N.D.; two brothers, Raymond J. Graff of Eureka and Herbert Graff of Hosmer.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Casketbearers will be Jacob Kirschenmann, Glenn Graff, Larry Heupel, Tim Paulsen, Sandy Nelson and Neal Kappes.

Tyler James Iron Wing

Mobridge -- The funeral for Tyler James Iron Wing, infant son of Rhonda Rousseau and Jeff Iron Wing of Mobridge, will be at 2 p.m. CDT Tuesday at Episcopal Church in Whitehorse. The Rev. Jeffry Barnes will officiate.

Burial will be in the church cemetery with Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge in charge of arrangements.

Tyler James Iron Wing was stillborn March 31, 2001, at Mobridge Regional Hospital.

Survivors include his parents of Mobridge; two brothers, Teigan Gray and Tanner Gray, both of Rapid City; two sisters, Molly Rousseau of Mobridge and Braden Gray of Rapid City; maternal grandparents, Doretta Bowker of LaPlant and Pete Rousseau of McIntosh; paternal grandmother, Carrie Iron Wing of Whitehorse; and maternal great-grandmother, Virginia Rousseau of Eagle Butte.

Casketbearers will be Jeff Iron Wing and Jamie White Eyes.

Anna Nyberg

Milbank -- The funeral for Anna Nyberg, 96, of Milbank and formerly of Waubay, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Waubay. The Rev. Dirk Hagmaier will officiate.

Burial will be at a later date in the Lakewood cemetery at Waubay. Mohs Funeral Home of Webster is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.

She died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at the Beverly Healthcare Center in Milbank.

Anna Sten was born Jan. 13, 1905, to Carl and Marie (Olson) Sten in Waubay. She attended country school through the eighth grade. She then lived at home and helped her parents farm.

She married Bill Nyberg in September 1940. They lived in Watertown for a short period of time and then moved to Waubay, where they lived until 1994. She had lived at the Beverly Healthcare Center in Milbank since that time.

She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Waubay, Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, church circle and the Senior Citizens Center.

She enjoyed hand sewing, baking and gardening.

Survivors include two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one son.

Casketbearers will be Brandon Nyberg, Gordon Althoff and Dwight Althoff.

Wanda Shemanski

Webster -- The funeral for Wanda Shemanski, 74, of Webster will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Christ the King Catholic Church in Webster. The Rev. John Garvey will officiate.

Burial will be in the St. Otto's Catholic cemetery. Mohs Funeral Home of Webster is in charge of arrangements.

A prayer service will be at 7 tonight at the church.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 5 to 8 tonight at the church.

She died Saturday, March 31, 2001, at the Bethesda Home in Webster.

Wanda Shemanski was born May 31, 1926, to Walter and Anna (Lewno) Shemanski in Waubay. She attended the St. Joseph's Catholic School in Grenville. Following school she moved with her mother and sister to Webster, where she worked at Wist Produce. She then worked as a housekeeper for many people until she retired in 1993 due to her health.

She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Webster and its Altar Society, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Grenville and was a past member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary in Webster.

She enjoyed reading and small children.

Survivors include one sister, Amanda Czmowski of Webster.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
