Myron Schultz

YANKTON - Myron A. Schultz, 60, Yankton, formerly of Watertown, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at a Yankton hospital.

Funeral services will be at the Sogn-Messer Funeral Home Monday at 1 p.m. with Russ Johnson, Branch President, presiding. Music will be provided by Evelyn Meyer, pianist and Pam Taylor, music director. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Sogn-Messer Funeral Home. Visitation will continue prior to the services on Monday. Pallbearers will be Dean Halajian, Jim Lindner, Leon Halajian, Nathan Lamb, Landon Meyer, David Wilson, Alan Nelson and Lawrence Schultz. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. The family is requested to meet at the funeral home by 12:15 p.m. Monday for a prayer service.

Myron A. Schultz was born August 29, 1943 in Watertown to Herman and Lillian (Klatt) Schultz. He grew up and attended school in the Watertown area, graduating from Watertown High School in 1961. After graduating from S.D. State University with a degree in agriculture in 1965, he started farming and continued until retiring in 1996. He had served as treasurer for Richland Township for over 20 years. After his marriage to Beverly Lamb in Watertown on April 2, 1993, they lived in Webster, Sioux City, Iowa and Yankton. An avid ham radio operator, Myron was licensed in the early 1980s by the Federal Communications Commission. He was a 16-year member of the Watertown-based Lake Area Radio Klub (LARK) and served as club president in 1986 and 1987. Myron had helped others become ham operators by teaching LARK-sponsored amateur radio classes. He was also a member of the Watertown 25/85 Repeater Association, the group that owned and operated the first two-meter repeater in Watertown, for 16 years. He was a member of the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints, enjoyed cooking and spending time with his family and his church.

Survivors include his wife Beverly; two daughters, Melanie (David) Wilson, Missoula, Mont., and Patricia (David) Bruderer, Lorain, Ohio; one son, J.D. Roy, Yankton; and one sister, Karen Schultz, Watertown.

Merri Mogler

LAKE PRESTON - Merri J. Mogler, 6, Lake Preston, died Friday, March 19, 2004, in a Sioux Falls hospital.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Lake Preston Lutheran Church with the Rev. Mary Wallum officiating.

Burial will be in the Badger Cemetery.

Visitation will be today (Monday) from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Lake Preston Lutheran Church with a prayer service starting at 7:30 p.m. The Johnson-Henry Funeral Home of Arlington is in charge of arrangements.

Merri Judith Mogler was born Sept. 6, 1997, at Huron. She was a kindergartner in Lake Preston. Her life was incredibly short but touched so many. She was all girl, doing everything that 6-year-old girls like to do, tea parties, dress-up, music, bike riding, playing with those special toys, helping Mom and Grandma in the kitchen and sharing. She shared the ultimate gift with her untimely accident with organ donation.

Survivors include her mother, Khristy and special friend Terry Steinmetz; her sister, Elizabeth Mogler, at home; her grandparents, Benny and Rose Mogler of Lake Preston; and her great-grandparents, JoAnne Perkins of Lake Preston and Gordon and Joann Dierkson of De Smet.

Marian Skatvold

SUMMIT - Marian A. Skatvold, 83, Watertown, formerly of Summit and Rosholt, died Thursday, March 18, 2004, in a Watertown hospital.

Funeral services will be today (Monday) at 2 p.m. in the Hope Lutheran Church at Summit with the Rev. Laura Overbo officiating. Organist will be Val Moen.

Burial will be in the Ortley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Morrison, Richard Anderson, Scott Roth and Allen, Curt and Roger Skatvold.

Visitation will be today from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in the church.

Johnson's Funeral Home of Rosholt is in charge of arrangements.

She was born June 16, 1920, to Obert and Julia (Udseth) Bronson south of Summit in Grant County. She was baptized and confirmed at Lebanon Lutheran Church near Summit. She graduated from Summit High School.

She married O'Dean Orton Oct. 10, 1939. They lived in St. Paul, Minn., and later moved to the Orton farm near Ortley. They moved to Washington state where she worked at a grenade/torpedo factory during World War II. She attended nursing training and became an LPN.

After her husband's death in 1959, she moved her family back to South Dakota, living and working in Watertown and Sisseton.

She married Ernie Skatvold Aug. 3, 1963, at Lebanon Church. They lived in Waubay where they owned and operated the Waubay Rest Home. Mr. Skatvold died in 1979.

She moved to Summit in 1983 where she was active in the Hope Lutheran Church and the Senior Center. She relocated to Rosholt and in June 2002 moved to Meadow Lakes Assisted Living in Watertown.

Survivors include two sons, Douglas and Judy Orton of Boise, Idaho and Robert and Anne Orton of Madison; one stepdaughter, Dianne Morrison of Waubay; three stepsons, Curt Skatvold of Kansas City, Mo., Roger and Jane Skatvold of Watertown and Allen and Marianne Skatvold of Revillo; one sister-in-law, Prudence Orton of Webster; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Leon Begalka

CLEAR LAKE - Leon Royal Begalka, 73, Clear Lake, died Thursday, March 18, 2004, in his office at Sodak Gardens.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Trinity Lutheran Church at Clear Lake with the Rev. Michael Enderle officiating. Music will be provided by Ruth Enderle, Elaine Almos and Elise Schilling, organists and the Trinity Lutheran Church Choir.

Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery at Clear Lake. Honorary pallbearers will be the Trinity Lutheran Men's Club. Active pallbearers will be Don Holt, Dale Engelbrecht, Gene Brandt, Edwin Krause, Doug Kreger, George Cook, Lorne Harms and Lyell Klemm.

Visitation will be in the church at Clear Lake today (Monday) from 7 to 9 p.m. with a celebration of his life at 8 p.m. Visitation will continue Tuesday one hour prior to the service in the church. Memorials may be directed to the Great Plains Lutheran High School at Watertown or to HCJB World Radio Missions. Crawford-Eng Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born May 15, 1930, to Walter and Alma (Gerth) Begalka in Clear Lake. He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1948 and continued his education at S.D. State University at Brookings, graduating in 1952 with a horticulture degree.

In April of 1952, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged March 2, 1954, and returned to Clear Lake. He then began his nursery business, Sodak Gardens, which is now celebrating its 50th year.

June 18, 1955, he brought his bride, Elizabeth Junas to join him in Clear Lake. In 1959, they added a flower shop and greenhouse to their operation. Although his son, Tim bought the business in 1994, he remained active in its operation until his death.

He was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, serving in the choir, Men's Club, council, building committee, as a WELS representative, area communicator and conference delegate for his Synod. He was also an active member of the Clear Lake Community Club, PTA, 4-H Leader's Association, Development Corporation, Museum and Historical Society, S.D. Nursery and Landscape Association, S.D. Horticultural Society and S.D. F.T.D. Association. He also served on the advisory committee for McCrory Gardens and Sioux Falls Technical Institute. Awards he received included the John Robertson Award in Horticulture (1972), Clear Lake Commercial Club Employer of the Year (1978), Honorary Chapter Farmer from the Clear Lake FFA and Honorary Member Award from the S.D. Nurserymen (1993). With his wife Elizabeth, he also received the Clear Lake Community Service Award (1996), Right to Life Humanitarian of the Year (1998), S.D. Florists Hall of Fame (1994) and the S.D. Retailers Association Distinguished Service Award (1994). He had the distinction of being the first S.D. Certified Nurseryman in the state in 1978.

He enjoyed telling stories about the old days, singing, reading, listening to country music, going for drives, class reunions, politics, visiting, the outdoors and his work. He also was writing a book comprised of past letters written by Elizabeth and Leon and wanted to share these memories with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth of Clear Lake; three children, Dorothy (Mark) Lewis of Jordan, Minn., Tim (Rhonda) Begalka of Clear Lake and Kathy (Ralph) Kurtenbach of Quito, Ecuador; 15 grandchildren; two sisters, Marlys Haug and Marilyn (Richard) Olinger; and two brothers, Walt (Joan) Begalka Jr. and Elroy (Carol) Begalka.

Louise Eilers

REVILLO - Mrs. Louise Eilers, 89, Revillo, died Saturday, April 3, 2004, in a Watertown hospital.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the St. John's Lutheran Church at Marietta, Minn., with the Rev. Bradley Larson officiating.

Burial will be in the Revillo Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Donnie Eilers, Cody Kenyon, Jason Morris, Stacy Freese, Kevin Switzenberg and Chester Park.

Visitation will be Tuesday in the Mundwiler Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. and will continue in the church Wednesday one hour prior to the service.

Louise A. Eilers was born March 12, 1915, in Deuel County, the daughter of George and Frieda (Butzin) Kruger. She attended rural school at Young America District 59 in Deuel County.

She married John Eilers Nov. 22, 1937, at Akron, Iowa. She and her husband farmed in Lowe Township, Deuel County, for many years. She was a dedicated and hard working farm wife who cared for and especially enjoyed raising poultry and calves and also enjoyed gardening and flowers. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Marietta. Her husband died Nov. 19, 1987 and she continued to live on the family farm.

Survivors include one son, Roger Eilers of Revillo; one daughter, Kathleen Kenyon of Estelline; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Michael Moe

SUMMIT - Michael Moe, 45, Summit, died Sunday, April 4, 2004, as the result of a vehicular accident.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Hope Lutheran Church at Summit with the Rev. Laura Overbo officiating. Organist will be Val Moen.

Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery at Sisseton.

There will be no visitation but family and friends will gather at 1 p.m. in the church.

Mundwiler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Michael Leon Moe was born April 18, 1958, at Sisseton, the son of Otto and Mary (Block) Moe. He was baptized in the Catholic Faith at Sisseton. He graduated from Summit High School in 1976 and attended Vo-Tech at Canby, Minn. He was currently working as a construction foreman for TCI, Inc., at Hopkins, Minn.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include four children, Michael, Amanda, Erica and Tiffany, all of Marietta, Minn.; a special friend, Belinda Nicholson of Marietta; three sisters, Mary and Kenny Wyman of Summit, Linda and Ferdy Hoss of Sisseton and Lannis Moe of Watertown; three brothers, Otto "Junior" Moe of Summit, Gerald and Ann Moe of Glasgow, Mont., and Charlie and Marcy Moe of Minneota, Minn.

David Reinart

BROWNS VALLEY, Minn. - David Reinart, 56, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, in Browns Valley.

Funeral services will be Monday, Nov. 23 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Anthony Catholic Church at Browns Valley with the Rev. Joe Vandeberg officiating.

Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery at Beardsley. Pallbearers will be Bryan Roark, Mark Appel, Bob Huckeby, Elliot Ziemer, Evan Ziemer, Tanner Reinart and Roman Reinart.

Visitation will be in the church Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and will continue Monday one hour prior to the services.

Memorials are preferred to the Ronald McDonald House and Broadway Industries.

Larson Funeral Home in Browns Valley is in charge of arrangements.

David Leo Reinart was born Aug. 24, 1953, to Leo and Philomena (Diekmann) Reinart in Graceville. He was baptized in the hospital at Graceville. He attended school in Browns Valley and graduated in 1972. In 1978, he began delivering the Watertown (S.D.) Public Opinion daily to residents of Browns Valley. He was always on time with deliveries. He retired from the paper route in 2001, when he began working at Broadway Industries in Wheaton.

He enjoyed trapping gophers and he was a collector including pipes, dominoes, rocks and string, which he formed into a ball. He also liked to watch videos, play cards and video games, especially PacMan. He collected for Ronald McDonald House charities. He was proud of his siblings, nieces and nephews. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Browns Valley, where he enjoyed ushering and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his siblings, Joe (Arlene) Reinart, Jim (Lynette) Reinart, Marlene (Bill) Appel, Leona (Doug) Kaelin, Bonnie (Randy) Huckeby, Gerald (Dianne) Reinart, Carol (Todd) Ziemer, Greg (Kathy) Reinart and Mary (Jeff) Long.

Marjorie McKinney

RAYMOND - Marjorie M. "Marje" McKinney, 84, Raymond, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, in a hospital at Watertown.

Memorial services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in the First Baptist Church at Clark, of which she was a member. The Rev. Roger Shepherd will officiate.

Arrangements are also being made for a memorial service in Albuquerque, N.M.

A memorial fund has been set up at a Christian camp where her son, Tim, serves as camp director. Donations can be sent to John Jackson, Camp Red Cloud, P.O. Box 130, Lake City, Colo., 81235. Please include "memorial fund for Marje McKinney" on the memo line of your check.

Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown is in charge of arrangements.

She was born Oct. 28, 1925, in Davenport, Iowa, to Theodore and Mary (Fey) Woeller. She graduated from high school in LeClaire, Iowa, in 1944, where she was an all-state basketball player for two consecutive years.

Oct. 14, 1944, she married William "Bill" J. McKinney in Davenport and they had four children. They were married for 65 years.

Survivors include her husband, Bill of Raymond; four children, Tim (Debbie) McKinney of Lake City, Colo., Carole Bell of Rio Rancho, N.M., Michael McKinney of Albuquerque and Mal (LeAnn) McKinney of Sioux Falls; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, David Woeller of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and one sister, Janet (Andy) Graaff of Princeton, Iowa.

GUSTAVE W. BIEBER of Mobridge

Gustave W. Bieber, age 88 of Mobridge, died Sept. 4, 1995, at the Mobridge
Regional Hospital.

His funeral was Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mobridge with Pastor E.
Douglas Heskin and Intern Jill Jackson officiating.

Burial was Saturday afternoon at St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery at Java
under the direction of Miller Funeral Home of Bowdle

Gustave W. Bieber was born to Rosina (Hausauer) and Friedrich Bieber on March
1, 1907, at rural Eureka in McPherson County. As a young boy he moved with his
family to a farm seven miles south of Java. He attended rural school at West
Ryan School through the third grade. As the oldest son, he saw very few school
days since he was needed on the farm

He married Marie M. Schreter at Zion Lutheran Church in Lowry on Easter Monday,
April 1, 1929. the ceremony was held early in the week so as not to interfere
with the beginning of the spring field work. The newlyweds settled on a farm 11
miles south of Java. They stayed there until 1974 when they moved to Mobridge.
After the move Gust continued to help on the farm for several years. He lived
the remainder of his life in Mobridge.

He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Java for 67 years. He was
very active in building the new church which was completed in 1960. Following
his move to Mobridge, he became an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

He was a member of Mobridge Garden Club; Mobridge Moose Lodge; and Mobridge
Senior Center where he worked at the Nutrition site until November 1994. He
also served on the West Ryan Rural School Board for six years.

Survivors include his wife of Mobridge; three daughters: Mrs. Lorraine Biel of
Java; Mrs. Adrian (Shirley) Kast of Haynes, N.D.; and Mrs. Ray (Pam) Reiss of
Java; two brothers: Art F. Bieber of Selby and Albert (Chip) Bieber of
Guttenburg, IA; one sister: Mrs. Madalene Schreter of Java; 10 grandchildren
and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers (one in infancy) and two
sisters.
